Blaine Gabbert Heads To Kansas City

April 18th, 2023

Gone.

OK, so a few fans have Twittered and texted Joe this so apparently there is interest.

The pipeline of Bucs players heading to Kansas City continues today. The Chiefs signed backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

(Nice work for Gabbert. First he backs up Tom Brady for three seasons, now he backs up Pat Mahomes.)

So yeah, go ahead and laugh and throw rocks over the fact Todd Bowles couldn’t use Blaine Gabbert but Andy Reid could. Joe gets it.

This now makes four members of the Bucs from the 2020 Super Bowl-winning season roster that have bolted Tampa Bay for Kansas City: Justin Watson, Ronald Jones and Mike Edwards, plus Gabbert has found his way to Arrowhead Stadium. RoJo left this offseason left for the Cowboys.

Joe hopes they all get their fill of Joe’s (nee: Oklahoma Joe’s) burnt ends and Boulevard Pale Ale and enjoy scraping frost off their windshields in late October.

Too bad about Edwards, However, for the rest (especially ROJO), watch out for the door on the way out.

  2. SlyPirate Says:

    TESTIMATE TO LICHT

When the defending SB Champs continue to pick up your players, it tells you they believe in the Bucs’ program.

  3. Beej Says:

Patrick’s mother HATES when you call him Pat

  4. DBS Says:

May as well go where you have one hell of a better chance to win a Super Bowl. Because it is not going to happen here . if you don’t see the difference between the Head Coaching there and here you are blind as a bat.

  5. EEK Says:

Gabbert was likely not going to be given a shot to compete for the backup position in Tampa regardless
Good for him and there I appreciate that there’s fan interest in his career

  6. Just Leave Trask Alone Says:

LOL he’s a caddy again. He likes that role.

  7. BucsFanSince 1996 Says:

The Bucs are trying to get younger and Gabbert is up in age. We need to find a QB that can take us to the playoffs for the next 5 or 10 years.
Mayfield and Trask have an opportunity to make their case but Licht will bring in additional QBs this season as well, and if necessary next season too

  8. David Says:

The only one who offers any value is Mike Edwards

  9. All_da_way Says:

Bucs are going younger so it was obvious that Gabbert’s time was up.

  10. JeffreyLane77 Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if Licht drafts a QB early if one falls to us or he works out a trade or something. Even more likely Licht drafts another project QB in the later rounds. I can’t see Licht going into training camp with two question mark QB’s and nobody to run the third team offense.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

    LOL!

  12. HC Grover Says:

Ohhh Noooooo Mr. Bowles strikes again. He wants Runaround Sue. The thing that would not leave.

  13. Lord Cornelius Says:

This guys dominating the backup career role lol

  14. Rod Munch Says:

A little known fun fact: Gabbert was once a 1st round draft pick by the Jaguars, who are located in Jacksonville, Florida.

Oklahoma Joes is the Berns of gas station barbecue

  16. bucsfan951 Says:

correct me if i am wrong but watson signed a 2 year contract with kc recently, right?

  17. Rod Munch Says:

This story affected me so much, I had to write out how I felt…

Blaine Gabbert was a Buc, a shining star
But now he’s gone and it feels so bizarre
He signed with the Chiefs, a new beginning
But our hearts are heavy, our heads are spinning

Blaine Gabbert, why’d you have to leave?
You were our hope, our future MVP
But now you’re gone, and we’re feeling blue
    Blaine Gabbert, we’ll miss you

  18. KC Buc Says:

^Right I saw that too, Watson re-upped on a cheap deal

  19. Hodad Says:

Put the jetski in cold storage.

  20. Just Leave Trask Alone Says:

    Rudy’s >>> Oklahoma Joes

  21. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Guess he wasn’t good enough to even compete with Trask or Mayfield.

  22. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Chiefs got their QB of the past.

  23. Letsbucinggo Says:

    Ryan Griffin here we come!

  24. steele Says:

I have waited so long to do this but: HAHAHAHAHA, finally. I am so tired of the whole Gabbert/Arians-loves- Gabbert-so-he-stays thing. He was and remains an inconsistent QB (whose ‘moment of glory’ with the 49ers encapsulated his career), a perennial backup who will never be trusted to carry a team as a starter, capable of stumbling to a win here and there, but ultimately, just JAG to close out games by handing off the wall.

Nobody should have expected Rah Rah Canales to want Gabbert anyway. Rah Rah has his own list of guys he loved as a Seahawk whisperer, and that’s where he will go if they sign a veteran backup. Or else they draft and go full ‘evolution” youth.

Trask had better consider packing up his stuff. His leash just got even shorter. He is a remnant of past thinking and his leash just got even shorter.

  25. Voice of Truth Says:

Can’t hate a guy for collecting millions to hold the clipboard

Blaine has made a butt ton of money not playing- to me, he is a genius

  26. Bucsfan13 Says:

Well, Andy Reid is an offensive genius. If Blaine sees action, he’ll see receivers running wide open because Reid actually knows how to scheme players open, unlike the former OC

  27. Crickett Baker Says:

GL Blaine, you are one helluva guy and never a bad QB imo.

  28. Buc4evr Says:

    Sign Matt Ryan…. Lol.

  29. RBUC Says:

Bucs trade down a few spots picking up a additional 3rd rounder. At the end of the 3rd round take Stetson Bennett. Kurt Warner believes he will end up being a better QB than ALL the prospects taken in front of him🤔!! In the last 7 yrs or so ALL the QBs taken top 5 have been BUST

  30. Bojim Says:

    Whew.

  31. Jack Clark Says:

    From goat to goat

  32. Joe Says:

Oklahoma Joes is the Berns of gas station barbecue

Second best burnt ends Joe ever ate.

  33. Jack Clark Says:

Andy Reid had a winning coaching record before he got blessed with Patrick Mahomes. So if Patrick when’s another 4 more super bowls then Andy Reid will become the greatest NFL coach of all time

  34. Bucsfan13 Says:

@steele. I love the whole Rah Rah Canales. I find his inspirational quotes on social media so lame. He has a college coach mentality. Are there any other OCs on social media?

  35. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I twitted on my SnapFace account, that Gabbert might be going to a good team.

My 2 followers (my wife and dog) gave the thumbs-up.

  36. LakelandSteve Says:

I agree with another commenter on this site. What a complement to Jason Licht poaching all these Bucs players. The only one that is worth a damn however is Mike Edwards. But, congratulations to Edwards and Gabbert.

  37. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Riding an NFL bench, ain’t a bad gig. If you can get it.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

I pour out my heart and nobody says nothing.

Which is a double negative, so I should actually be happy since someone said something. Humm, confusing.

  39. Goatfarmer Says:

Watch daddy sling it for the Chiefs!

  40. BigMacAttack Says:

Rod Munch 👏👏👏. Happy now? He won’t be missed. I’m sure you feel the same.

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

    Go Bolts!!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

  42. Dom>Licht Says:

Gabbert and Trask the last 2 years have been a waste of a roster spot if neither were ready to take the reins after Brady. Does anyone in this site really believe that anyone in this current coaching staff will be able to develop a rookie? Did do much with Trask. Our only hole is Mayfield balls out!

  43. RachaadWhite>Fournette Says:

@joe did you see the Bucs initial depth chart released . Lots of newsworthy nuggets I’d like to get your perspective on. Tristan wirfs listed as LT , Baker listed as number 1 qb . Feiler starting right guard , leverett at the other with goedeke listed as backup . Ryan Neal backup to Winfield , no notable starter at the other safety . Gaines is listed as starter LDE gholstons old spot . Still a long way to go but based on the depth chart the immediate needs are right tackle safety and corner depth. Hoping they go bijan round 1 . I think rachaad white can be special but that 1-2 punch could really take the load off a qb. Edmonds crapped out with run guru McDaniels , think that was a smoke screen signing .

  44. Joe Says:

That’s odd. Nothing on the Bucs’ site about this. Joe didn’t receive any release about this from the Bucs. Usually teams don’t release depth charts until a week or two before the first preseason game.

If there is a depth chart, guessing someone other than the Bucs threw it together.

  45. Brandon Jeff Says:

Hey Rod, that was really profound! Good Job!

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Brandon Jeff – Thank you. That was 100% written by myself and not AI, because just telling AI to write your posts would be lazy and not very creative, and everyone knows I lead the league in creativeism.

  47. lambchop Says:

This seems like Mahomes wants to get a little more intel into the inner workings of Tom Brady’s prep and how he took care of his body over the course of a long career.

  48. BigMacAttack Says:

Autocorrect rights a lot of my ships

  49. Goatfarmer Says:

Rod, kudos for entertainment value and humor. Humor is good. Some verbose pontificators are humorless and their diatribes sterile and unreadable. Thank you.

  50. Rod Munch Says:

    Goatfarmer – You’re a great American.

  51. Charles Says:

All the defending coaches and GM made to carry him as a back up and the minute he has chance to be a qb not even an offer. The guy would of played for. I thing he made tampa his home so what does that say about who is evaluating our qb talent ? You kept the third string over the second string is a head scratcher

Thank you and best of luck to you, Blaine Gabbert!

  54. Goatfarmer Says:

We are fortunate we never had to see him actually have to start and lead the team to a win. If Mahomies goes down, Chiefs fans used to Henne’s magic are in for a shock.
