Kyle Trask And Mature Feet

Kyle Trask

Nobody outside One Buc Palace knows much about Kyle Trask as a professional quarterback, but Clyde Christensen may have revealed a bit today at his University of North Carolina news conference.

Christensen, the Bucs’ quarterbacks coach for the past four seasons, was introduced as a new offensive consultant for the Tar Heels. He joked about retiring longer than Tom Brady — Christensen retired from the Bucs in January — and got around to talking about Bucs time with Brady.

Regarding Brady, Christensen said Brady was obsessed with footwork.

“Tom was always concerned about his feet, you know, making sure his feet were quick in the pocket. So everything we did [in practice] had an element of twitch to it in the pocket,” Chirstensen said.

That got Joe thinking about Trask spending two full years in an environment laser focused on quick, efficient movement in the pocket. It’s something Joe will look for in practice this spring and summer.

If Trask isn’t moving like a champ in the pocket, stepping up quickly and sliding and escaping effeciently and skillfully within his atheltic ability, then that’s going to be a big red flag.

(Fun fact: Christensen was a suitemate of Lawrence Taylor in college at North Carolina).

Whats this about Bucs taking QB Will Levis at 19?
    ?

  2. D-Rok Says:

Just out of curiosity, Joe, are you able to take video during practices you’ve witnessed with Trask? If you had a video or two of Trask in drills, you could answer the foot-work questions.
Bucs greatly limit media shooting video at practice. It’s an odd decision considering they let fans film anything at training camp, albeit fans are limited to the type of camera they can use and don’t have the best vantage points. The only drills Joe can shoot are dudes warming up and maybe, if lucky, quarterbacks throwing to receivers against air (think quarterbacks at the combine) where half of us look like we can hit NFL receivers. –Joe

  3. rashad brown Says:

Levis can be had in later rounds. Definitely not in 1st round.

  4. Beej Says:

Is Levi the one from KY with the milk phobia?

  5. Bucs55 Says:

Levi’s Giving me Trubisky Vibes 2 year starter as was mediocre at best with such a great arm does not seem like OC trusted him to throw much and win games

  6. D-Rok Says:

    Thanks for the response, Joe!

“He’s accurate, he’s smart, he’s tough, he knows how to move inside the pocket. We don’t draft guys to run, we draft them to throw. And he’s accurate as hell.”
    BRUCE ARIANS

“He’s got all the size, he’s got the arm, he’s got the stature of what we like. And he’s mobile. Now, he’s not a burner, but he’s mobile enough to do things.”

TBBF only has quick feet when avoiding a snake…..

  9. Crickett Baker Says:

    yah.ty2 joe

  10. Brandonbucc Says:

Levi is overrated. Stick to starting Trask.

  11. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

I thought this was going to be about Rex Ryan’s wife

  12. David Says:

I hope they do not take a QB this draft. Go with what you have to see what you got. In the draft, solidify a lot of other positions of need. get the OL & DL set.
Then you can go all in and trade up to get a franchise QB next year if needed.

As for Trask in the pocket… So far and preseason for every play he looks good, he has several where he seems to panic if his first option is not there

  13. Goatfarmer Says:

Kyle Trask’s feet hate him! They’ve never given him a fair shot, we should just throw him and his feet out there and see what we'[ve got!

  14. Dooley Says:

Saw a little bit of Trasks’ footwork last preseason, for the sake of eval he was pretty solid and even scrambled against the Titans iirc. What I did like about his college tape is that he usually delivers from a solid base, but as a pro I think he’s still got work to do getting a feel for the pocket and sliding with his protection. Sells play action fakes pretty well, which is a plus at any level to freeze defenders for that split second.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I have nothing against drafting a QB…just not at the top of the draft (this year). Still…take one in rounds 4-6 and I would not hate it. You never know when you could strike gold.

I would rather Trask compete against a rookie than Baker, to be honest. Baker is a proven failure, and I will keep on saying that until he proves otherwise.

I would prefer rounds 1-3 go toward the two lines.

I don’t know if the link will go thru, but here are the Kyle Trask preseason highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVllrf5CjxI

Notice he goes deep a lot…and is accurate.
Notice he moved around in the pocket.
Notice he scrambled and then passed on the run…accurately.

These highlights go against every negative thing people here are saying.

Yes, it was against backups…but that’s all we have to go by and his arm/feet are what we’re looking at.

  17. Buc Unto Death Says:

Really hope we do not try to get a QB in this draft. We can use Mayfield and Trask. If one of them doesn’t emerge as a solid QB, we’ll be in a better draft position next year.

  18. Usfbuc Says:

Buc unto death – the Bucs are 100% drafting a QB. Probably a later round we there will be a third QB on the roster.

  19. Voice of Truth Says:

He better light it up all off season and camp or he will be holding Bakers clipboard week 1

  20. Dew Says:

We have to sign another QB and imo cheaper to draft one than sign another veteran.

  21. Craig Says:

The few times he spoke at UF Trask sounded smart enough to have watched Brady like a hawk.

If he can put that into something automatic is the question. He had longer to watch than any other back-up to Brady, so maybe. He should be at a QB whisperer right now to get coaching he probably didn’t as a Bucs so far.

The big question is how the OC communicates with his offense. The press releases looked good, but game time is a different world. At least he is a QB coach and can work with Trask, Mayfield, and probably Stetson Bennett from round 5

  22. Redeemer Says:

Have any of you considered the fact that his footwork sucks? Thats what I gathered. Some have it some don’t. Brady made a concerted effort effort to improve his footwork in his late 30s. His arm wasn’t as strong and be knew he had to make improvements where he could. Some guys just naturally have heavy feet. An effort must be made to improve. Trask was and is a project. Maybe not what they thought, but it’s what they have.

  23. Goatfarmer Says:

Trask’s feet hate him. They’re haters.

  24. Oneilbuc Says:

Baker Mayfield will be on his 5th team next year but this is the quarterback you guys are excited to see lol 😂😂. I Brock Purdiy suck because he was drafted last in the draft last year..

  25. Goatfarmer Says:

Osqueel, your counting prowess is awesome. How about those 9 games the defense won for the Bucs in an 8 game season? Who is “y’all?” Have you ever seen a picture of Brian Flores? And what does this mean, taken verbatim (means word for word) from your exact post:

    Osqueel said,
“ I Brock Purdiy suck because he was drafted last in the draft last year.. “

  26. BuckeyeBuck Says:

No way they draft a QB. That says “we wasted a R2 pick on Kyle”. He gets his shot this year and nobody can say they sucked out his soul or never gave him a chance if it doesn’t pan out if they they move on next year

  27. Goatfarmer Says:

Rudy Carpenter and Ryan Griffin never got their shots.

Why didn’t we just throw them out there and see what they could do? They were unfairly treated. Trask is a victim of the same conspiracy to keep pocket passers down.

    It’s unfair and sad.

  28. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Mature Feet? I’m surprised the title of this post isn’t waiting on moderation.

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

Goofarmer. You just a hater at this point all you have is a opinion about Trask you have no facts. I’m not saying he’s going to be great because I don’t know just like you can’t say he’s going to suck. And the whole 9 games thing I was typing to fast but regardless of that the defense was the main reason why we won the 8 games and that’s a fact. Brady was trash 🗑️ last year and that’s a fact and that’s not a emotional statement that’s a fact you are a emotional guy lol 🤣🤣🤣.

  30. Steelers fan Says:

Baker had a total QBR of 25 last season. WORST SINCE 2005…This signing shows the bucs brass want TRASK to be the the QB of the future.
