Jason Licht Has A Flashlight For Tom Brady

March 3rd, 2023

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

If anyone still needed to know, the Bucs have moved on from the greatest quarterback of all time. Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson spilled the beans this morning.

Richardson said Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and Bucs coach Todd Bowles met with him today. If the braintrust wasn’t interested in a quarterback, they would not have wasted their time with Richardson.

And why waste your time with a college quarterback if the greatest may return.

Yes, Joe was the first to ask Licht this week if he was leaving the light on again for Tom Brady, referring to Licht’s comments at the Combine a year ago. Licht smiled and replied that he was leaving on a “desk lamp” and quickly moved on.

Later that day, national #NFLMedia asked Licht if he’s sure Brady is retired.

“Pretty much, yeah,” Licht said while laughing. “I said I’d leave a desk lamp on before. Last year, I said I’d leave the light on. Maybe [this year] it’s a flashlight, I don’t know.

“I think he has got his mind set. I think he is happy with his decision and we’re happy for him.”

Asked if he was content with the three years Brady spent with the Bucs, Licht didn’t blink. “One thousand percent.”

Yeah. Who wouldn’t want a Super Bowl win?

If he unretired I’d still love TB12 here.

  2. MadMax Says:

    No…Love him, but no…its over

JUST SAYIN’ – Saw a clip from Colin Cowherd’s show a couple days ago and he noted that, in the event the 49ers QB aren’t healthy/effective by Sept./Oct., Brady is almost too obvious an option to at least talk to about playing again.

He did, after all, take a “gap year” before starting his new job with Fox.

BUT, clearly the Bucs team will have a bit of a facelift by the fall.

  4. MadMax Says:

He’s still under contract with us right? So who wants to trade…Im all for that

  5. unbelievable Says:

@MadMax – no last year was the last of his contract, IIRC.

  6. D-Rok Says:

Love me some Brady, but his pirate ship has sailed. IF Brady says he is gonna play again, I’ll believe it. Until then, let’s just wonder who QB1 will be for the Bucs this year.

In just a few months, we’ll know.

It’s hard to tell if Joe forced the Jason interview with Richardson, this stuff is over my head half the time.

    Nothing with brady surprises me.

  8. Winny Testaverde Says:

    Bruce…then Brady…saved Licht’s career. His record was worse than DirtStar Dominik’s ( @ .333 winning % ) prior to their arrival.

His last few drafts have been wobbly ( wasn’t picking high because of…Brady ).

He’ll earn his keep moving forward or join the other boiler boys Rex Ryan & Royale Tannenbaum on tv/the 33rd/turd team.

As a Florida football fan, IMHO, Richardson is a physical freak, an outstanding athlete but he panics when passing, tends to throw interceptions or fumble, I would not recommend him as a quarterback ,but, with his size and speed , maybe a slot back , wide receiver, and sometime additional blocker, could even be used on reverses with a pass option thrown in.

Hopefully this interview with AR was smoke and mirrors stuff. I think his career completion percent is like 52.

If Tom Brady unretired to take orders from Rah Rah Canales and Brooding Bowles, I have a nice straight jacket for him.

Stay away, GOAT. You should not have unretired the first time.

  12. ElioT Says:

This was already reported like 3-4 days ago.

  13. Anthony Garrett Says:

Show Tb12 the money for 1 possibile 2 Years & Lets see what he Does “PUT Your Money where your Mouth is ” if you want him back $$$.$$$.$$$ That’s all it’s takes for #12 to come out of unretirement again

  14. Allbuccedup Says:

Brady is not coming back with Bowles as head coach.

  15. BucsfanFred Says:

Hey, man, it was great while it lasted

  16. TBfan Says:

You know he’s had enough of no plan aleady…give him a month or 2…he will be thinking..I retired why?? Most competitive mf ever

  17. Greg Says:

Joe, I saw that headline and read “fleshlight” instead of “flashlight” and thought, well, Licht is certainly going to new heights this off season!

  18. Rod Munch Says:

I think Brady was pretty angry at himself last year for doing something he doesn’t do, and showing weakness by retiring when he really didn’t want to. He made an emotional choice, as if he was a woman, and you can tell it really really bothered him that he embarrassed himself like that.

To be clear, I don’t think he embarrassed himself at all. But I’m certain he feels like he did.

There is no way he’d go through that again. So he’s done. Of course, if I’m wrong, you’re absolutely bringing him back.

Which brings us to the other part. There’s no way Brady is coming back to this team. Bowles is not a good head coach. He’s a top tier defensive coordinator, but as a head coach he’s garbage. Before last season Brady never had a losing season, never lost to Dallas, never lost to Atlanta – Bowles made all of those firsts happen for Brady.

If Brady was to come back, he’s going to the 49ers or the Dolphins or the Jets, certainly not to Tampa. So in that case, I just hope he stays retired since it would really stink to see him go win yet another SB with another team since it diminishing his time here, and also diminishes the players here, might cost David and Evans HOF jackets.
