Here is the kicker on the question about how many wins Bowles needs to keep his job. It is at least an additional 3 wins total than it would’ve been had Arians remained as coach last season. Arians stated he wanted to pass the job to Bowles with the best possible scenario possible and that meant getting out while Brady was still a Buc. Hindsight proves that theory was never correct.

Fan expectations were high, for good reason, and Bowles was setup to do no better than to meet expectations. Win the Super Bowl, maybe a slight bit more than expectations but not with a large portion of fans who expected one final Brady Super Bowl. Bowles had a less than 5% chance to exceed expectations and no better than a 10% chance to meet expectations.

Arians handed Bowles a handgrenade in an open palm with the pin already pulled. That it blew up in Todd’s face shouldn’t be a surprise with the benefit of hindsight. Going into 2023, Bowles is now being held to a standard that exceeds that which would’ve been required had he taken the job just this off-season. The results were so bad last season that Bowles must now prove he can win with the talent on hand as opposed to breaking even being a potential accomplishment. The F in NFL has never been mistaken for Fair.

Discumbuculated. To hear the football experts….man the lifeboats.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Wow…..one of the Joes doesn’t have much good to say about a bunch of players.

Mayfield, Trask, Goedeke, Hainsey, Leverette, Stinnie, Nelson, White.

  4. Chris Cotten Says:

DeeKemper, you are crazy, to get this guy for as cheap as we did is freaking great, the guy can play and you will see

  5. sasquatch Says:

They need to give him a shot of thorazine.

  6. sasquatch Says:

Mayfield still has upside. He’s still too young to just say he’s garbage. He had moments in CLE, and he did pretty well in his short run in LA. Monken loves Mayfield, McVay had great things to say about him. Does he have some issues? Yeah, but he’s potentially a huge win at 8.5 million. Who were we gonna get that’s better in our price range? Nobody…. And guess what, the salary cap is real.

  7. sasquatch Says:

Anthony Nelson is a decent player. A good rotational piece. I don’t know if D13Klemperer thinks your backups are supposed to be superstars-in-waiting, or what. Re-singing Nelson was a very solid move for a reasonable price.

  8. Mike S Says:

DeeKemper is right on the money. You go with Trask. Mayfield is not a saviour.

  9. Goatfarmer Says:

Let’s go. LFG. I’m ready. The only move I’m not crazy about is signing Chase Edmonds, who had sucked, has sucked, sucks, will suck, and will have sucked. But he’s a vet minimum, so no harm I guess.

Also it’s hilarious to read the geniuses who wants Trask to start. As if they have been working with him every day in practice and have some insight into his brilliance. I’m going to give that decision to the professionals who have evaluated his field performance for two years, instead of these panting fanbois.

  10. Mike S Says:

Its not a thread on joebuc if goatfarmer ain’t dumpinjg on Trask

  11. Mike S Says:

4 Million base salary guarantees nothing. Its going to be an open competition.

  12. steele Says:

Intentional or not, calculated or not, Baker Mayfield is a brilliant move in that the expectations for this season are reduced to low to non-existent now. It’s a total experiment with high risk, disaster or success.

We are so into this stuff so seriously that we often forget that this is a game. Entertainment. Mayfield as the face of the franchise makes sure you don’t forget it. Same with Trask, but without the sitcom.

Between Todd Bowles the Sphinx, Mr. Helium Canales and Baker Mayfield, that is a volatile mix all by itself. Something is going to happen. Zero boredom. If it blows up, all we can do is laugh now.

  13. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Fun stuff and great Buc football conversation as usual, gentlemen! Much to chew on for a while.

    Go Bucs!

  14. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I don’t believe Hendon Hooker will be drafted in the first round. I do think that he has as high or higher upside potential than the other quarterbacks after C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young. Because of Hooker’s injury he should fall to the end of the first round or more likely into the second. That said, a couple teams do things every year in the first round that defy common sense to me. So what do I know.

  15. Chuck Says:

What’s the over/under on the number of times Ira says Lee on the next podcast? Does he forget that Steve is there too?

  16. Goatfarmer Says:

Trask will be an excellent clipboard holder, he’ll get the chance to be starting clipboard holder this year. Now that’s progress.

  17. MadMax Says:

Are you guys ever thinking about why we dont have a DC and let Bowles focus on HC? I just think that dual hat position further handicaps him.

Get him a DC and allow him to focus on being a Head Coach. Im not a big fan of him but at least give the guy a true chance!

  18. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Holy god, L ee as abrasive as ever. We don’t have the salary room for Lamar (or Jimmy G!), & they’re both walking injuries. Baker was never the same after that torn labrum and Cleveland gonna Cleveland and do something stupid with DeShaun. Then Baker arrived super-late into an essentially tanked season, & super late into ANOTHER tanked season. If you catch lightning you do it for 8 mil in this strapped year and you got your guy. If you don’t, you have a 4 million backup (half the going rate) & you try Trask. AT THAT POINT you shoot for Caleb or Drake. Btw, the division is winnable and the minute you committed to Bowles for a second year you’re not tanking. You give it a shot, if you fail, you pull a Carolina and trade up to top two to get your guy.

  19. BoricuaBucfan Says:

Can you guys mute D’Kempers Mic please!!! His guy literally said all Garopplo does is win🤣🤣🤣 what has he won? I can win games with San Francisco’s defense and you don’t sacrifice a year just to see if Trask is any good. News flash D’Kemper f Trask was any good he would’ve been our 2nd string last year.

  20. Thugster Says:

Bucs are going to be an absolute train wreck this year, you got Rooney ruled TB and now you will pay the price for a decade or more
