BSPN: Ezekiel Elliott A “Fit” With Bucs

March 23rd, 2023

Former Dallas RB Ezekiel Elliott.

Joe doesn’t see it happening, but a self-righteous NFL stenographer for the four-letter seems to think differently.

Folicly-challenged Billy Barnwell of BSPN is sifting through the chaff that is left of free agents and trying to find them a new home.

He believes former stud Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott would help the Bucs.

One year, $4 million with the Buccaneers. Here, he would be part of a split backfield alongside Rachaad White, who would serve as the team’s primary pass-catcher out of the backfield. Elliott would be an early-down runner and much-needed pass protection specialist for an offense currently expected to start Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask at quarterback.

Tampa will likely move toward a more run-heavy approach after Tom Brady’s retirement, so it is going to need someone to rotate with White.

This would surprise Joe. Last week Joe heard former NFL suit Michael Lombardi claim the reason Elliott is out of work is that he can no longer run outside.

So the Bucs signing Elliott would surprise Joe for two reasons. The first is Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht is not fond of running backs on the wrong side of 27 who have lost a step (or more). Elliott will be 28 when training camp rolls around.

Also, the draft is supposedly loaded with running backs, so the Bucs can get good value there, in theory.

And remember, the Bucs signed veteran running back Chase Edmonds. So Joe doesn’t see any room at the inn for Elliott to go along with potentially a rookie, Edmonds, Rachaad White and Ke’Shawn Vaughn.

    Hell NO

  2. MadMax Says:

    Draft Achane

  3. MadMax Says:

    Trade down

    We need two 2nd’s
    Darnell Washington
    Steve Avila

    Two 3rds
    Devon Achane
    Mekhi Garner

    and somewhere in the 5th…
    Kicker Jake Moody

this is easy…but peeps wont listen

  4. Stanglassman Says:

Not only does he not have any tread on the tires his rims are sparking. I’m not sure he’s worth paying league minimum, taking up a 53 ristorante spot for goal line work. If Dallas thought he had anything to offer they would have kept him. I believe they’re still paying him the majority of his contract.

  5. MadMax Says:

And if we miss out on D Washington, snag Tucker Kraft with a late rounder ….4th or 5th

    this is easy….lol

  6. adam from ny Says:

with the addition of baker and zeke we def build up in the star power and prime time game area…

no need for zeke unless for added star power…

so, if you sign zeke, is he hanging on the side of ray jay showing off his belly button this season?…

    that’s something to seriously consider…

also these guys are one word athletes…like “goat”…

when you hear “baker” or “zeke” you immediately think of these people…

so after losing brady, is one of the goals to maintain some semblance of star power on the post brady rebound…

    just a morning coffee thought

  7. Crickett Baker Says:

Do the babbling heads really know more about our team than we do?

  8. Mike C Says:

    Well said Crickett Baker smh

  9. FrontFour Says:

    Hell no.

  10. Beej Says:

If we don’t have $3 million for Edwards, we certainly don’t have $4 million for Zeke

  11. Leighroy Says:

If you’re more interested in seeing “stars” show their belly buttons on dale mabry, then you missed the correct building address by a couple blocks!

News flash: players aren’t “stars” unless they’re elite performers. Otherwise they’re just names depleted of talent.

I wouldn’t even let Zeke pay the Bucs to play on the team. Rock solid hard NO on this one.

  12. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Cowboys just cut Zeke and signed RoJo- as Joe said, the draft is loaded with RB’s.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Zeke turned into Peyton Barber……don’t like him, never liked him and never will like him. NOPE

  14. westernbuc Says:

White would start over Zeke lol these guys are such clowns sometimes

  15. Chuckstutz Says:

    Double hell no.

  16. bluetick Says:

Please don’t bring this idiot to the team. I will stop being a fan for the years he is here.

  17. Beej Says:

I’d much rather have ROJO, catching passes less of an issue now

  18. ElioT Says:

    No, no, no!!!!

  19. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Dude is old and slow, no thanks.

  20. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Too old, too slow. Just say NO to Zeke!

  21. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Too old, too slow. Just say NO to Zeke!

  22. View from 132 Says:

For vet minimum, sure. Otherwise, he can take his spoon and go home.

  23. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Max

    “Trade down”

I agree. But it isn’t always easy to find a trade partner who will want to give up 2nd/3rd round picks just to move up 5-6 spots in round 1…

It would be nice to pick up a few extra picks in the top 100 but it is easier said than done.

  24. Winky Says:

    No thanks on Zeke

  25. D-Rok Says:

Naw to Zeke. Besides, he wouldn’t even have one of those Salvation Army buckets here to jump into…

  26. JD Still Says:

Tampa ( the chasers of shiny objects), is becoming known as the place where other teams castoffs and geriatrics go to retire while on an active roster.

  27. Canabuc Says:

Too many miles on the tires. Could have just kept Fournette if you want slow and washed.

  28. Craig Says:

Over the hill and oh so far away.

Yesterday there was talk of the Bucs breaking the bank for Jamel Dean, as if the Bucs could afford Elliott, even if they wanted him; he might have been worse than even Baker Mayfield last season,

  29. Kgh4life Says:

Elliot is one of the better pass protecting RBs in the league, however, he’s lost the burst that made him a top flight RB. The draft is loaded this year that can come and contribute right a way.

  30. GumboIsForWinner Says:

Please no. Draft the best RB in the 7th round will be at least as good.

  31. Goatfarmer Says:

Barnwell is proving to be the dumbest of his kind. And he gets paid to write that stuff. Good for him I guess.

  32. sasquatch Says:

We’re not spending money on a worn out back. If he wants to play for vet minimum, maybe… but aren’t we supposed to be getting younger and faster?

    Not happening.

  33. catcard202 Says:

    Oh, Hell Nah!!

Day 3 RB at minimal coin next 4yrs?? Yes, Please!

  34. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Get one in the draft!

  35. SlyPirate Says:

    No gracias

  36. Dwight Schrute Says:

One mans trash is another man’s treasure.

    No!

  37. BucsfanFred Says:

I’LL have a FIT if they DO sign him!

  38. Bucfan1988 Says:

So help me, they better not waste $$ on this dude….I’ll be so pissed and lose respect for this organization!!

  39. Rod Munch Says:

Elliott was once a great back, but he’s washed up now. He can still be a plodding guy who can get you 3.9 yards per carry behind a good offensive line and can still catch the ball, but his explosiveness was completely gone last year. I mean I wouldn’t throw a fit if they added him just to absorb hits that White doesn’t have to take, but that’s about all I’d expect. However if you’re going to pay $4m, just bring Fournette back, he’s got more left in the tank, and is much funnier on Twitter.

  40. steele Says:

Bucs need a 3 down back who can carry the offense for long stretches in smashmouth mode. Rachaad, Edmonds ain’t it, Vaughn can’t get out of backup mode, and nobody left in free agency is anything but backup types. Please don’t bring back tip toes Lenny. Zeke will probably try to land somewhere else, and is past prime, would cost too much, but as washed as he is, better than Lenny in the right scheme.

Bypass this whole free agent class. Draft a stud, make some decisions later.

  41. Dwight Schrute Says:

    We want Playoff Lenny

  42. Rand Says:

Joe is like a bass, throw something shiny and silvery at them and they always want to strike. C’mon if Jerry Jones is willing to let him walk how much does he have left?. Stop the insanity.
