“Everybody Has To Earn Their Job”

March 29th, 2023

Promotes competition.

Joe has to hand it to the Bucs’ media relations staff. They coached up Rachaad White right.

White, who currently is the top Bucs running back on the depth chart, said all the right things on his appearance this morning on “Good Morning Football,” seen weekdays on NFL Network.

There, White pushed the theme of the 2023 Bucs: competition. And he seemed to include himself in that.f

White was asked how he might be able to help the new Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield competition.

“It was tough to see Tom go, of course,” White began. “But I think we are in good hands with both Kyle [Trask] and Baker. It will be real good competition.

“There is going to be competition everywhere. I firmly believe that. Everybody has to earn their job. Everybody has to earn their spot.”

Well, aside from the (ahem) competition at quarterback, does anyone really believe there is going to be competition at whatever tackle position Tristan Wirfs plays? Competition for Ryan Jensen at center? At inside linebacker where Lavonte David and Devin White prowl? At corner where Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean hang?

Just their salaries alone demonstrate there’s no competition, nor should there be for established stars and top-shelf players.

As for the Bucs’ chances this fall without Brady, White seemed to think the aforementioned starters will rally and replace some of Brady’s presence.

“I believe we will be good,” White said. ” We still have great leaders. … We have a lot of great leaders still left.”

Joe agrees with that. The Bucs’ defense should be top-10 good just like last year. And if, for example, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka raises his game, the defense could be even better.

Also, White noted he has changed his number from No. 29 to No. 1. He may have been hosed indirectly by former Bucs kicker Ryan Succop. White wanted to buy No. 3 from Succop but he wasn’t selling.

Now, Succop was cut last week and White still doesn’t have No. 3.

White may have doomed himself. The list of dudes wearing No. 1 for the Bucs is pretty harsh. That is, unless you’re a Joe Hamilton groupie. (Imagine what Hamilton could have done in today’s NFL!)

Jeezus, does Joe have to dissect every bit of boilerplate teamspeak? Saying there’s competition everywhere and everyone has to earn their jobs. I mean, really? That’s more of an attitude to instill in the team than it is a statement about Wirfs having to beat someone else for his job. Technically, he does, but no one expects him to lose that “competition”… I mean, dissecting that kind of stuff is funking idiotic, Joe.

We’ll see if he has the same attitude if Robinson falls to #19 and we draft him.

    What would Tom Brady say?

Didn’t kick returner Michael Morton somehow wear #1 back in the 80’s?

Doesn’t matter who we bring in at back, White will be a big part of our ground game. Run the ball more, you need more backs for 17 game plus season. This team will not be throwing 40 times a game anymore. The big competition will be QB. I’m not counting Trask out, and I believe he’ll get his chance to compete. I’m not buying they’re handing the job to Mayfield. Licht, and the Bucs have more invested in Trask then Baker. A second round pick, and two years in the building working. May the best QB win.

Yes, otherwise hardcore Bucs fans wouldn’t visit this site much less comment like you do.

There is a reason Joe is (by far) the most popular team-oriented website for Bucs fans. And unlike releasing an accurate kicker when you have a sh!t history with kickers, or toying with moving your best player to a new position just because, Joe has no interest in screwing up a good thing.

    You are welcome.

    Competition!

  8. BUCman Says:

Pretty cocky to switch to #1 after averaging only 3.7 yards per carry. I personally don’t see him as a three down back nor do I see anything particularly special about White. Very average in my opinion. Bijan Robinson should seriously be considered if he falls to 19.

  9. BringBucsBack Says:

White better be ready to come off of that number 1 when Darden returns! Bwaaaaaa!

  10. rrsrq Says:

He should have kept #29, threw on some goggles and and a neck brace and embrace the pony Eric Dickerson

Last year’s defense gave up 31ppg to teams that made the playoffs and some that didn’t. Bloweszo may be a defensive genius but he’s the only one who knows why.

“Bloweszo may be a defensive genius but he’s the only one who knows why.”

Well we def can’t count on you to coherently diagnose the issues either, but we only played 4 games against playoff teams in the regular season and went 2-2 in those games, alternatively there were only 7 game we scored 20 or more points lol we went 3-4 in those game. It’s an unhealthy obsession GF

    ,,,,,,,,,

This is what I think he is preparing himself for.

Dooley, go check Chiefs, 49ers, Bengals, Ravens games. All playoff teams, all losses. Do you take counting lessons from Osqueel? In any event, you’re a maroon.

  15. RustyRhinos Says:

(ahem) No, we will just bring in any Joe blowhard, like the guy who typed “(ahem)” about a post on bringing in competition. I am so sure if both “Joes” here on JBF would bring in back-ups to themselves or Ira, they would (ahem) not compete to have the best backup… (ahem) BS.

  16. D-Rok Says:

Just as White and Edmonds combine to form a hybrid competition; shall we term it for now – WhiteMonds? So also does the QB competition between Trask and Mayfield, which by decree of the Supreme Overseers of Recombinant Talent, shall be named Traskfield?

I am thoroughly confused and clueless as to what this team will bring this year. It’s a Bucs Life, I guess???

  17. Goatfarmer Says:

Too bad the head coich didn’t have to earn his position.

  18. PA Buc Fan Says:

Man I would love Robinson but we won’t draft him. We always miss out or pass on great RBs. I think this kid is going to be an absolute game changer for whomever gets him which would be amazing if we did. I’m a realist. We will 100% draft a defensive piece, likely a safety.

  19. Goatfarmer Says:

    Devin Achane.
