Tom Brady Sr. Doesn’t See Reason For Son To Retire As A Patriot

February 6th, 2023

There’s been some buzz about how creepy Patriots owner Robert Kraft would like to have Tom Brady sign a one-day contract with New England so he can retire officially as a member of the Belicheats.

Joe gets the ceremonial nature of it all, but it’s just fluff for Patriots fans. Tom Brady’s dad seems to see it the same way.

The elder Brady, Tom Brady, Sr., hopped on ESPN’s Greeny podcast last week and was asked about his son possibly retiring as a Patriot. He acknowledged that The Goat is close to Kraft but wouldn’t discount Brady’s feelings for Bucs ownership, and he went on to say a ceremonial retirement doesn’t impress him.

“I know he has very warm feelings for Robert Kraft, and he does with the Glazers, too, who have been terrific with him,” Brady Sr. said. “I’m not quite sure what difference it makes one way or the other to be honest with you.”

Joe hopes Brady passes on a fluff move for the Patriots. He’ll get a spot in both teams’ Ring of Honor and that should be enough.

As for Brady’s actual retirement (for now), Brady Sr. said his son noted once during this season, ‘I’m getting tired of getting hit.’ Joe saw that reported nationally as a reason Brady retired, but Joe can’t go there after listening to the entire interview of Brady’s dad.

Seemed pretty obvious Brady didnt want to get hit this year.

Would love for Brady to stiff the Pats on the ceremonial nonsense LOL

I have no problem with this. I mean is Warren Sapp really going to go down in the history books as a Raider, is John Lynch really going to go down in the history books as a Bronco?

A decade from now, Brady will be almost exclusively remember for his time with the Patriots, unless Brady pulls a Gruden when he’s on TV and constantly talks about the Bucs.

Outside of Brady tossing the Lombardi from boat to boat, there’s really no iconic moment here, and with that huge hit iconic movie, 80 for Brady, tearing up Hollywood, it just reinforces his Patriots days.

Brady has been avoiding hits since he tore his acl.

  5. Hodad Says:

A guy playing 23 years, and at 45 years of age, yeah, I can see where he was tired of getting hit. You could see it in his play this year. I get it, it’s natural. Tom was honest with himself, and did the right thing retiring. Thanks for the memories. Good luck on FOX, can’t wait to see you doing a Buc game!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Just when everyone thought Brady would retire as a 49r….oh wait….a Dolphin….oh wait….a Raider…..oh wait….a WTF……

  7. Redeemer Says:

Brady’s dad is understandably mad at the Patriots. I think that’s all this is. He wanted to finish his career with one organization, but was robbed of that by Belichick. They’ve mended fences per reports. Bill knows he owes much of his coaching success to the goat. Brady’s ever conscious brand image also doesn’t want to give license to his name for something so ceremonial. He should go in a Patriots. 6 rings to 1. I could see the consternation had he won multiple rings here. This isnt baseball after all. Deciding which hat to wear. His bust wont look different either way.
Being afraid to get hit, is different than being smart enough to not take a massive hit for a 10 yard gain. I don’t quite understand the argument. What good is he if he’s drooling on the sidelines. 4 downs for a reason. Eating sacks and putting his team behind the 8 ball was never Brady’s game. Sure he took more shots when he was young and dumb, but that’s more of a reflection of the old NFL. Why would any QB want to get hit today, it’s not necessary any more

  8. SlyPirate Says:

I don’t see who it matters, either.

Patriot fans love TB12. Bucs fans love TB12. Nothing changes if he retires a Pat.

  9. tbbucs3 Says:

Pretty obvious Brady’s desire to not get hit in 2022 affected his play and the Bucs offense…..but yeah according to the fan boys he wasn’t washed right?

  10. SB~LV Says:

Of course he will retire as a Patriot!

  11. Dooley Says:

Kraft is going to lure Brady in with gift cards to one of his massage parlors

  12. NEfan Says:

Ttsucs, way to turn around he statement. He say he was tired of getting hit which means he was getting pounded, maybe not sacked but still getting hit. I’m 100% every QB with a shatty oline says I am tired at getting hit. Joe Burrows must say it after every game. The guy is gone, ttsuc you’re happy, now you can trash the next guy.

  13. NEfan Says:

Brady does not want to do the one day thing. Kraft put him in a very difficult situation by announcing his intention publically. Now if he refuses it could be viewed as a slap in the face to the fans. On the flip side Brady’s view is you.had your chance for me to retire as a Pat but Kraft & Belichick chose not to. I don’t think he does it.

  14. Weston Says:

I think there might be some cap implications for the Bucs if he were to come back, even ceremonially

  15. Buc50 Says:

Who really cares that Montana went to the Chiefs. He’s a 49er for life. I just want to know what our cap hit is going to be.

  16. Mike C Says:

Buc 50, if Montana won a SB with the Chiefs he would not be just a 9er anymore…..

  17. Winky Says:

    Agreed!!!

  19. mg Says:

Don’t do it. Kraft and the creep belicheat never backed him in deflategate and failed to get him offensive help his last 3 years. Belicheat as a gm during those years stunk on ice. Retire a Buc. Krafty had his chance and shot his load in Florida at a oriental massage parlor. Genius.

  20. stpetebucfan Says:

    NE Fan

He was sacked the sixth FEWEST times of any NFL QB. Yeah his vaunted quick release helped but so did the OL. They may have sucked at run blocking but not pass blocking. Stick a fork in him. He’s done. His happy feet were obvious.

I get it after 20+ years but it’s time to be honest about it.

When Tuatavola went down the first time it wasn’t because anybody cheap shotted him or went for his head…it was because he was falling backwards so quickly that his head snapped into the turf. Do we suppose Brady missed that highlight.

  21. The Anomaly Says:

What has Licht done without Brady?

$1000 bucks he has ANOTHER losing record

    Licht is straight up garbage

  22. mg Says:

TB-12 had no running back that could block, let alone pick up a blitz.
Such a p poor offensive game plan. It was embarrassing watching the idiot coaches fluck up a good team. Work on your golf game at Seminole, your caddie will help you more than tidy bowles.

  23. steele Says:

Brady deserves two retirement ceremonies, one in Tampa, and one in NE.

No matter what, he will be remembered as a Patriot. Especially among normies and Golden Girls.

“80 for Brady” is evidence of this.

  24. Crickett Baker Says:

Well, if Kraft wants him THAT bad he should pay us the 50 Million $ we owe Brady and then I’d be fine with him retiring as a Pat.

  25. Jerry Says:

The only other QB that won a Super Bowl with 2 franchises is Peyton Manning. Do you consider him a Bronco or a Colt? A lot of people will remember him as both because of the Super Bowl wins.

  26. Please Use A Different Handle, Thanks -- Joe Says:

Definitely should retire as a Patriot no doubt about it. He started there and did wonderful things for the organization and the organization did wonderful things for him. Bill gave him the opportunity of a lifetime.
Brady should retire as a Patriot. If Bill didn’t give him that opportunity in the draft, he might never have gone anywhere..food for thought. He owes his career to the Patriots………..

Sorry but that’s not what happened at all ! Brady was giving the chance after Bledsoe got hurt and then the backup was hurt in the same game. Enter TB12 . The rest is history. He was just the best QB on the Patriots and was the 3rd string QB until he got his chance. Kinda like Brock Purdy this year. Nobody knew who he was until he came out and beat the brakes off our Bucs and kept going all the way to the NFC Championship game. Bill didn’t do anything for Brady , sure he was a great coach. But Brady was given his shot and he never gave it away. He’s the GOAT and it shows that he came to the Bucs in the beginning of a pandemic , had no off-season program or anything like that , and came in and won the Super Bowl in his first year as a Buc and was a busted defensive play away from probably winning 2 in a row. This year was all about injuries. Simple as that . But he doesn’t owe Bill B anything except putting good defense on the field for him cuz he never had any offensive weapons outside Randy Moss in NE. But he did it without the star WRs and probably had 3 HOF careers in the 23 years he played. Just be happy we got to have him for 3 years and everyone stop hating and jumping ship . You all make Real Bucs fans look bad with all your negativity every year. Go Bucs
