Jason Licht: Ke’Shawn Vaughn Hasn’t Had A “Fair Opportunity”

Bucs’ shot-caller likes him.
The Bucs said goodbye to one running back in their stable that comprised the NFL’s worst rushing attack last season. But it seems Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will welcome back two of those backs.
Second-year running back Rachaad White will return. And if Licht has the final say, it sure seems as if he wants Ke’Shawn Vaughn back.
Today Licht was asked about Vaughn, who will enter his fourth NFL season this fall. Licht had an interesting response.
“Ke’Shawn [Vaughn] – I don’t think he really has had a fair opportunity to show what he can do and what we know he can do from practice,” he said at the NFL Scouting Combine. “I think Leonard Fournette still has several years left in him as a three-down back.”
Well, about an hour after Licht made that Fournette comment in front of the nation’s #NFLMedia, Playoff Lenny was cut. He’ll now demonstrate his abilities as a three-down back elsewhere.
Vaughn showed a home run-hitting ability to score from 10-yards out and more in 2021. Joe understands Vaughn was a bit frustrated with his lack of opportunities last season, and it appears the general manager sympathizes with the Vanderbilt product.

Vaughn’s career feels similar to Earnest Graham’s.
Both solid, reliable producers when they could get on the field. Both are continuously overlooked by flasher RBs that really never produce.

As for Vaughn, we shall soon see IF he is good…same with Trask. We will see.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers plan to release running back Leonard Fournette, a key contributor in their Super Bowl LV victory.
The move will happen before the start of the new league year March 15, a source told ESPN.
Fournette told the Tampa Bay Times that he asked for his release and that’s there “no bad blood” between him and the franchise.
Last offseason, the Bucs signed Fournette, the fourth overall draft pick in 2017, to a three-year deal worth $21 million and up $24 million with incentives. But the Bucs enter the 2023 offseason a projected $55 million over the salary cap — $35 million of it coming from retired quarterback Tom Brady.
Fournette told the Times that Brady’s retirement was a factor in his decision.
“Winning is everything,” Fournette told the newspaper. “That’s all. And in my last three years here, that’s all we’ve done. But since my guy [Brady] left, that’s why I came, so my time here was up.”

So forgive me if I’m misreading Lenny, but it’s like he just stated,
“Welp, Brady be gone and I’m not staying on a losing team.”
His words might be great wisdom into what he sees going on at OBP this year. If he’s right, he’s wise. If he’s wrong and the team does well, he’s ignorant.

Ke never had enough opportunities, and whose fault is that? More burst than the other backs, in a generally mediocre to poor backfield, looked fine when he started. On any other team, Ke is just a backup, which tells you how unimpressive these guys are. I don’t see any kind of great running attack with this bunch. Entire corps needs to be redone. Stuck with Rachaad, unfortunately.
