Overcoming A Bad Offense

January 13th, 2023

Frustrating offense.

This Bucs offense is just so frustrating to watch.

The Bucs have talent up and down the offense yet they struggle to score, as if the offense is trying to swim from Egmont Key to Anna Maria Island.

This nonsense must end if the Bucs are going to do anything in the playoffs. But expecting a team to just snap out of it in the middle of January after they’ve stunk on offense nearly all season seems highly unlikely.

Rich Hribar of Sharp Football Analysis has some of the gory details.

Tampa Bay came out of the regular season scoring a touchdown on 16.0% of their possessions, the lowest rate of any team in the NFC. Only the Commanders averaged fewer points per drive (1.52) than the Bucs (1.58) in the NFC while only the Rams, Cardinals, and Commanders averaged fewer yards per play than Tampa Bay (5.1) in the NFC.

This just shouldn’t be, and it’s both mind-boggling how this offense is underperforming and damn near criminal.

Unless the Bucs score at least 20 points Monday night (and the defense has to ball out to make up for the offense), Joe isn’t sure that will be enough to advance.

The Bucs this season averaged 18.4 points a game, eighth-worst and just behind the worst team in the NFL, Da Bears!

Justin Fields led offense outperformed TB12 led offense

Heck, Lovie’s O was on par with Byron….

We win this game in spite of him not because of

  2. David Says:

If they do not fire BL the moment the season is over fans should boycott opening day. Have an empty stadium, demand accountability.

  3. SB~LV Says:

lol.. don’t expect anything different, if anything BL& TB will pucker even tighter!
Brady was NOT planning on being a Buc this year and that combined with the HC & OC has poisoned the well .
Sure they can win and I hope they do but this team will lose before the Super Bowl.
If they get behind a few scores on MNF the wheels will come off.
Brady’s heart is only beating for himself, this franchise is a bad dream to him, he is just going through the motions and protecting himself from injury.
The most bizarre chapter in Buccaneers history.

  4. bucs4life Says:

The worst part is that we have the pieces to exploit mismatches against any team. We just don’t do it because the OC does not feel like it.

  5. SB~LV Says:

  6. ModHairKen Says:

Even a deep playofff run ain’t going to save Leftwich. The Bucs’ owners are more astute than any other owners. They know football. They know how lost Leftwich is, and he is gone. Gone. Gone.

  7. SB~LV Says:

MHK… the only thing gone is Brady and the whole OBP family knows that he cheated on the franchise
He’ll walk out and never look back.
His Buc years are nothing more than a footnote in his legacy

  8. Slacker Says:

The only time this offense is functioning and moving the ball is in hurry up Been that way all season. If the staff is too blind to notice what works, they should have been canned week 6 already.

  9. Destinjohnny Says:

Over coming the worst line in football
And put Jason Lichts photo up

  10. Oddball Says:

The invincible ignorance fallacy,[1] also known as argument by pigheadedness,[2] is a deductive fallacy of circularity where the person in question simply refuses to believe the argument, ignoring any evidence given.

  11. SufferingSince76 Says:

His 7th Super Bowl was with the Bucs. That’s hardly a footnote.

  12. #8's Ghost Says:

SBLV–I take it you are a glass half-empty sort of dude?
Come on man. We’re in the playoffs–try to be happy.
You type as if you’d have rather missed the playoffs & Brady announced he’s going to team C already.
Though to be fair…Suh didn’t sign with us, and I’m now a ghost, so I am a double standard.
    Suh.
    Tompkins 2TD’s.

  13. SB~LV Says:

    To Tom it is
Dollars to donuts he will decline the offer to go up on the RoH

  14. darengibo Says:

@SBLV, as long as TB12’s bad dream ends in another Tampa SB, all good with me! I hardly feel he thinks his 3 year run is a “bad dream”….

  15. SB~LV Says:

Brady is emotionally detached from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  16. IrishTony Says:

Greg Cosell raves about a team’s route concepts particularly when talking about KC or Buffalo. When talking about the Bucs’ offense he said that there are “no” discernible route concepts Brady just throws to the open man. This is coming from a guy that watches tons of film and makes a living breaking down plays and schemes. If there are no discernible route concepts does that mean that Leftwich is creating vanilla game plan and allowing Brady to adjust on the fly?

  17. Dooley Says:

Lights out defense is the only answer, and that’ll give us our best shot at winning. At best, our offense is a mixed bag and at its worst it’s a one & a half-dimensional unit that has serious issues sustaining drives and scoring in the red zone.

  18. SB~LV Says:

    Wanna scare yourself
There will be some excellent offensive football this weekend before the Bucs kickoff.
While you are watching the excellent offensive football try and think back to Bucs offensive football this whole season and see if anything that the Bucs showed reminds you of what you watch this weekend
    Sorry for being so….. realistic!

  19. Buccos Says:

Who are these idiots that think they are inside Tom Brady’s mind?!?I mean who the f*** do you think you are. A complete moron because Tom Brady is never “detached” when he sets foot on a football field. He is the most passionate player on the field. He single handedly willed us to victory in 4-5 games. Trust me, I was there

  20. Beej Says:

SB’s dedication to dissing the GOAT is surpassed only by #8’s dedication to Suh

  21. mark2001 Says:

What about overcoming a bad offensive coordinator?

  22. SB~LV Says:

    Beejee
    You’ll soon realize yourself
Kinda like a girl that cheated on you and is still hanging around, you think because “there’s a chance “ she until she finds a better relationship after the lease on the apartment is up.
Brady’s body language is detached and cool
The official Bucs YouTube channel had a half dozen players on camera speaking to the game this weekend, it was HUGE that Tom Brady was not speaking

  23. Buc4evr Says:

What is kind of strange is that when Jameis was here we ran the hurry up no huddle offense all of the time, then it just stopped with Brady. Not sure why Leftwurst continues to do the same stupid stuff? Maybe one of the Joes could ask in a press conference why the Bucs continue to use the same gameplan on every team?

  24. Mike C Says:

Never had that GF thing happen SB, must just happen to dudes like you….

  25. Allbuccedup Says:

Has anyone called to bucs to get permission to talk to Lefty about a head coaching position?

  26. Jack Clark Says:

There’s nothing for our offense to overcome other than playing no risk it no biscuit style. As long as Mike Evans doesn’t drop passes and Chris Godwin doesn’t fumble the football we should be scoring 30+ points a game and just praying that our defensive backs don’t get torched in one-on-one coverage

  27. BrianBucs Says:

Byron Leftwich is running Todd Bowles’ offense.
    Enough said.

  28. Gamblers Anonymous Says:

Yeah SBLV, Brady surely hates the fact that he won a super bowl in his first year here. Man people like you are just the worst.
