Bucs Personnel Is Not The Problem

January 10th, 2023

“Mark, thanks for backing this roster. What can I do? I don’t coach. Raheem won 10 games for you with all those rookies and no-names in a great division. I got 8 Ws and heartburn.”

Joe always pays attention when former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik talks about his favorite team.

Why? Because Dominik still has close ties inside the walls of One Buc Palace.

Front office men Dominik hired, high-ranking dudes, are part of current general manager Jason Licht’s staff.

Also, Dominik is proud to call himself a Bucs fan and is quite astute when it comes to the team.

Dominik is a frequent co-host on SiriusXM NFL Radio and was their draft guru last year. His visit this week to Late Hits included him talking about how the Bucs roster is damn good — good enough to be a lot better than 8-9.

“They’re a very frustrating football team, and I think everybody in that organization feels that way,” Dominik said. “Like, ‘We can be great and we can’t find the continuity.’ And so, you know, no one wants to play Tampa [in the playoffs] but everyone wants to play Tampa. Because they have not played to their consistency all season long.

“I said at the beginning of the season, I thought they’d win this division by three or more games and they couldn’t do it. And I was like, ‘They’re so much better.’ I just feel like from a personnel standpoint, from a quarterback standpoint, from a player standpoint, but they have never been able to finally put that like hammer to the trigger and be like, ‘We got this.'”

Dominik went on to say he thinks the Cowboys have the edge on Monday night because of their body of work. “I can sleep on Tampa Bay because they have been so wildly inconsistent,” he said.

“I don’t trust their consistency. I want to but I don’t,” Dominik continued. “And it’s Tom Brady and it makes me feel silly to say that, but I trust Dallas’s consistency because I know it’s just been one game where it was like, ‘What was that?’ Instead of Tampa with the whole season of like, ‘What was that?'”

Joe feels Dominik’s pain. The Bucs have been consistently inconsistent. But that’s what makes it hard to count them out, a true wild card in the Wild Card round.

As for the quality of personnel, Joe was intrigued to hear Dominik repeat that the necessary roster talent is there. The coaching? Well, that’s unclear.

Anyone with half a brain knows their problems. The less than half a brain group will be on here claiming it’s Brady or some other player. Cowboys if I were a betting man. Oh wait I am

Brilliant statement “A true wild card in the wild card round”

Many of us beg to differ, and unfortunately we’ve been right all season: personnel IS a problem, and coaching is obviously a problem.

The roster. Overrated veterans who haven’t played consistently, and all seem to have some sort of mental or psych problems with their games. Overconfident backups, JAGs and undeveloped rookies forced into starting roles that they haven’t earned. Reach draft picks that haven’t panned out. A 45 yr old QB who’s not in 100% sync with coaches and players, who’s not been fully all-in supported, and who’s had off-field drama. Yes, there is a personnel problem.

Bowles, Leftwich, Licht…nobody leading, nobody taking control of the difficult task of getting a team motivated, unified, and elite.

It is the combination of both personnel and coaching that have landed the Bucs where they are.

  4. NEfan Says:

So coaches are not good. That’s a surprise. (sarcasim)

  5. Tony Says:

Yeah that’s it let’s listen to Mark Dominik. The dude who’s no better than Jason Licht.

Lets see, a oline that has produced the worst rushing in decades?
Naw, cannot be personnel. Ah Yes it has been a GLARING ISSUE.

Brady is not throwing the ball so quick because he just wants to. It’s Survival. Yeah Brady is quick, but this is SURVIVAL QUICK

This oline was gutted for so many games.

Lets see put in an unproven 2year center, and a rookie L Guard, a new R Guard, and a gimpy Wirfs off and on, and also the MOST penalized lineman LT Donovan Smith.

No it could not be personnel?

I am not a fan of Todd Bowels, he just seems to underwhelm.
But the trainwreck oline has been a glaring issue.

If this was the Oline back in 2020, Brady would have signed somewhere else, just to be able to survive let alone win games.

28-52 Dumbernik. Thanks for the lost decade, imbecile.

  8. alton d green Says:

well Dom since you don’t sign my paycheck i will tell you that you sound just as freakn dumb as Lefty and Stonehenge. This teams problem is that Heckle and Jeckle coaches That Bruce suckered the Glazers into hiring. You could ask 1000 fans a simple question; “why in he^% did they hire these two, especially Bowles 1st year = with Bruce and Tom = Superbowl
2nd yr Bruce and Tom = NFC champ game and Stonhenge screwed that up
3rd yr Todd and Brady = 8-9 What does it take??????????? So Dom take your logic and get lost

  9. CrackWise Says:

    ITS EASY to figure out.

    FOLLOW THE MONEY.

Bucs win this game by 20.

Win the divisional round by 10

    CHAMPINONSHIP Game by 5

SUPER BOWL (against the JAGS) by 1

    BET!

Brady will be the first and ONLY QB to win the Super Bowl with a LOSING TEAM!!!

    Take it to the BANK.

    NFL IS RIGGED

  10. Mike Says:

Brady is going to tell the coaches flat out, don’t take us off the field if it’s 4th and short, we’re going for it. Touchdowns over Field Goals from here on out. No risk it no biscuit is how we are built.

  11. Depressed 2022 Says:

    I can only dream of that…. Crackwise…. ✌️

  12. CrackWise Says:

    Me too Depressed 2022

Thats why I CRACK Wise jokes ALL THE TIME

  13. CrackWise Says:

    PS

    CrackWISE is becoming a “THING”

You can all boast, you first heard of me on JBF

  14. CrackWise Says:

    Thats a joke…….. DOPE!!!

  15. David Says:

He is absolutely correct. People think they’re going to be in for a long rebuild when Brady leaves, but they have a lot of young talent. The biggest issue as far as personnel was injuries to receivers early on and O line throughout.

  16. CrackWise Says:

Sorry Joe, I just wanted to share that, ITS GROUND BREAKING

  17. Oddball Says:

I’d almost take the loss just to see Lenny blow up Parsons one more time. Almost.

  18. Rayjay1122 Says:

Let me go out on a limb and guess bad coaching… And the limb just broke!!

  19. Bucanero Says:

I’m so ready to watch the game. It’s going to be a thriller for sure.

  20. BucU Says:

This coaching staff is a disaster. And next year it’ll be worse when Bowles picks his own staff. The Glazers will throw away another season because they won’t fire this bum. So sit back and watch the dumpster fire.

  21. NEfan Says:

Thanks again BA for leaving your trash at One Bucs Place.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Mark Dominick really knows personnel. A real expert….

But, if it’s not personnel, then it’s coaching…….on that point I would rarely agree with Dominick……a horrible GM.

  23. Hodad Says:

If Dom knew talent when he saw it, he’d still be a G.M. somewhere.

  24. Bosch Says:

Oh, but sadly it is clear about the coaching, too. It is poor. Joe, you already nailed it on the head, weeks ago. HC and OC do not hold themselves accountable. “Not my fault, man.” So, they repeat the same failures over and over and place the blame elsewhere. Most recently, Bowel movement criticized the back-ups for their truly abysmal performance in the second half against the falcons. But how many reps did they take together as a unit in the week leading up to the game? Did anybody ask Bowel movement that question?
