“Adversity”

January 14th, 2023

Mike Evans

You don’t normally hear a star of a division winner three days away from its playoff opener refer to the current season as one dealing with “adversity.”

But that’s just what Mike Evans did.

Appearing yesterday on the “Rich Eisen Show,” Eisen asked Evans how he would sum up the season for himself. After a long pause, Evans said, “Adversity. And being division champs.”

When Eisen asked Evans to explain why he would choose the word “adversity,” Evans said, “Just, underachieving in the regular season. Obviously, everyone has seen it. We went from being one of the best offenses in the league to being bottom tier.

“That wasn’t our standard. With all that being said, we were still able to punch our ticket to the dance. And we had our best offensive performance when we needed it the most.

“Hopefully, we can continue that.”

Of course, Evans was speaking of the win over Carolina two weeks ago when the Bucs sewed up the NFC South crown as he busted out for 207 receiving yards and three touchdowns, all three on bombs from Tom Brady.

If the Brady-Evans matchup against Carolina wasn’t a fluke, that should be huge for the Bucs’ deep passing game on Monday night.

Never going to happen. The RUN first attitude will put them in a hole and we will have to hope Brady can bail them out one more time.

I’m going to say something that will make Ya’ll say HUH???
If the Cowboys win, regardless of the score, FIRE BOTH COACHES before they even get to the locker room! If the Bucs win by 1 point FIRE BOTH COACHES. If the Bucs win by 50, FIRE BOTH COACHES. Why? If we can score 50 against “America’s team” what the Hell was you doing against Carolina, Pittsburge, Atlanta, Washington blah blah blah. Let me answer that “RUNNING UP THE GUT ON 1ST DOWN. Now let me give you some advice, Todd Bowles, double team CEEDEE Lamb from the first posession to the last. I’m sure you won’t

    GOOOO BUCS!!!

I am pretty confident in toad calling a decent game on defence because he’s a good coordinator not head coach . I have no confidence in leftnutt. Our players are going to have to win this game ! Go bucs!

  5. Zwak Says:

Bowles isn’t getting fired after one season. He didn’t even get to pick his own staff!

Stats say the best combination to get first downs is Pass-Rush-Rush. Obviously, you have to get a chunk on that first pass. This puts the most pressure on the defense. When you Run-Run-Pass or Run-Pass-Run, it puts more pressure on the offense.

If I were Leftnut, I would start fast and start strong, take no prisoners, and catch that defense on their back foot with a surprise. Pass on first down the entire game and STOP that pass rush.

Some of you all just say the dumbest stuff, like there is no thought in your heads.

If I had to guess, I would say the Bucs actually run on first down right around a coin flip to start the game and slowly start passing more later into the game as we’re playing catch up.

But, we remember the times when we run and get nothing much more than we remember the times we pass and got 5+ yards. It’s just selection bias because we cherry pick the times we ran and got blown up.

And teams usually start the game running to get acclimated to the physicality and to establish the run to setup the pass – unless you’re the Ravens, Titans, Browns, Saints, Falcons, or Eagles – they run cuz they actually have a dominant running game or a mobile QB.

  9. WTFBucFan Says:

I feel the Bucs under-performing is mostly due to this joke of an offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. It filters down to players who constantly told to run plays which gain little yards and results in a defeatist mind-set. I doubt we get passed the Cowboys but if we do the Bucs will be blown out by their next opponent. I can’t see Tom Brady coming back to this clown show risking another marginal season. With Bowles and Leftwich in charge we can forget about winning the NFC South, must less any future Super Bowl greatness in the foreseeable future.

Alton Green…I agree with you 100%!! With one exception!! The coaches miss coached, miss play called, miss time managed this team into a losing season!!!!!!!!!!! They should not be forgiven unless they bring in the Lombardi !!!!!!

  11. Infomeplease Says:

This team has the talent, knowledge, experience, and the ability to beat any NFL team on any given day (including Monday Night)!! It’s up to the coaches to put it all together and make that happen!!! That’s their job!!!! Their primary job!! For this team to end the season 8/9 is a disgrace and complete failure to the fan base and the NFL in general!!! The coaches now have the chance to redeem themselves!!! Turn this ship around now!!! Show the fans and the NFL what the Bucs are capable of!!!!!!!!!!!

Well we are down to a few days of talking.
I am trying to see Bucs performance in the 49ers – Seahawks
I see consistent big plays from both teams and no sloppiness

I’ve noticed the praise Bowles and Leftwich was getting when we were the explosive offense we were. Now Blame the coaches. Coaches send in the play. Its up to the TEAM to execute. The coaches arent on the field as a player simply just a manager. So if your team is under achieving no matter what play you send in is gonna be disaster. I have an idea. All the skeptics and experts who only see the game not the work and preparation that goes on during the week. Why dont you apply for a coaching position. Thats of course you believe you can do better. Honestly because , a lot of you talk as if you have the solutions to all our teams woes.

  14. TampabayDJ82 Says:

Geeeeez I swear we have the worst fan base in the NFL ! Bunch of spoiled babies that probably didn’t pay any attention to our Bucs before they started winning 2 years ago. A lot of you sound ridiculous AF. Root for your team no matter what , wait until the off-season to complain. I don’t see the AINTS fans talking bad about their players , coaches, and team ! That’s sad. Go Bucs and go find a new team to bash fake bandwagon fans.
