“You Don’t Know Where To Point The Finger”

December 20th, 2022

Richard Sherman is perplexed.

Lots of Bucs fans have easy answers when asked about Tampa Bay’s repeated woes.

They point to coaching, coaching, coaching. A few haters fire darts at general manager Jason Licht, and some think aging Tom Brady is the major problem.

Joe leans heavily in the coaching direction, but a big-name Bucs fan doesn’t know what to believe. He would be highly opinionated Richard Sherman, the former Bucs cornerback and three-time All-Pro turned Amazon studio analyst.

He talked Bucs on the podcast that bears his name this week (easily found on various platforms).

“You don’t know where to point the finger,” Sherman said of the Bucs. “You don’t know where to put the blame. Because it’s not like they’re not playing hard. They’re not healthy really on the offensive line. But you just can’t really pinpoint, like, ‘What’s goin’ wrong?”

Sherman, per his comments, doesn’t think Tom Brady is washed up. But he was clear on the assertion that the Bucs are one-and-done in the playoffs.

Sherman not pointing a finger towards at least one aspect of the Bucs surprised Joe a bit, as Sherman is tight with many Bucs he played with last season. Maybe he’s covering up for someone(s), but Joe gets a vibe that Sherman has no answers because the Bucs have no answers.

The road to the SB runs through Philthydelphia. We can beat them.

I am off the negative banter. Those to blame Brady and hate on him that’s your prerogative. I just watched the Cincy game again and saw team very close to a break out. The fake punt was dumbfounding, even if Bernard was ready for it that would have been blown up by #51, the D kept them to a FG. The first int the lb jumped in front of Brate and made a great play, the strip sacked followed a dropped pass by Gage that would have resulted in a 1st down, the handoff on Brady popped out of his hand and the last int Brady was hit throwing the ball another great defensive int catch. Through all this if not for some BAD penalties and a dropped int by SMB the team played really well. Before every turnover the Bucs were moving the ball and the D made numerous stops before something unfortunate happened. You could see the concern in Burrows eyes.

Bottom line is we need to find out where Giselles or BA’s voo doo doll is. Bucs can play with anyone if they avoid the stupid shat. That should have been a blow out the other way against one of the top teams in the NFL.

These coaches are NOT good the players need to rise up above them and play like they did Sunday. If they do and eliminate the mistakes they can beat anyone. I see a 9-8 finish.

  3. NEfan Says:

Wow sorry, that was a Rod Munch post. Sorry Rod, can’t help myself.

It WAS a blowout. 34-17, not counting that cheap TD in the final moments. If anyone listens to you and your analysis, shame on them.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

NEfan … I’m impressed; you just morphed into a Bucs’ fan overnight. Maybe I should’ve said ‘shape-shifted’? (Hey, that’s my new word-of-the-day).

Not sure I agree with you about the muffed fake punt (speculation), but the rest of those turnovers are spot on. The turnovers, penalties & a couple other faux pas doomed an otherwise well-played game. That’s the story of this year’s Bucs for some reason.

I honestly believe that, if reasonably healthy, ‘Bucs can play with anyone if they avoid the stupid shat’ like you wrote. The team that showed up in the 1st half of Sunday’s game is in there someplace. IF THAT’S the team that shows up for the last 3 games AND for the playoffs, yes we can go 9-8 and make some noise in the playoffs. IF NOT, we’ll be one-and-done in a heartbeat.

I think we know where to point the finger, there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here, who knows the answer better than me. Should have never let Suh and JPP walk for starters. That was the start to me

I have said all along that Idk what the problem is. I thought it was great when they got rid of Darden but then the coach said he hadn’t done anything wrong. I had seen him do plenty of wrongs and I doubt he could get better. The play calls work but then are not adjusted, and the opposing teams HAVE adjusted to what we are doing. Tom is still Tom and he has thrown plenty of interceptions in his younger days so it isn’t him, imo. But I just don’t know what it is. It does seem like it is Bowles’s responsibility though if I am guessing.

  8. NotaBucsfan Says:

Even Cole Beasley knew what’s up. Retired then re-signed with the Bills. Does that hurt your feelings too Mr. DEFENSE?

  9. BucsWinningTheShip Says:

Bucs can play with anybody. Any given Sunday. You realize the cream of the crop is on every time essentially. There’s a reason why Lovie Smith and the Texans are pushing playoffs teams into OT or the final seconds of the game. The Bucs will be fine if they get healthy and stay out of their own way. We were winning 17-0 vs SB contender Cincy. We spanked Dallas opening week. Yes we’ve had a bunch of embarrassing moments and losses since, and it’s been frustrating to watch as a fan, to say the least. The offenses success has been woeful at best. The team, players, quitting.you see it in their body language when a call goes against them, they get that “here we go again” mode. It’s unhealthy but human nature when you realize you’re not only playing against the other team, but feel like you’re playing against the zebras too. Everybody in the building can do a better job, and I believe they will.

Sure, we have problems beating crap teams and we’re going to get past round 1 of the playoffs? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This team sucks so bad that they may not even to win the division.

    Playoffs?
    We’re talking about playoffs?

    Playoffs? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is a 3-14 team without Tom Brady late game heroics.

  12. NEfan Says:

DR, the difference is the Begals game yet frustrating to watch wasn’t boring and lackluster like most of the others for 55 min. There was actually some good football.

I beg to differ on the fake punt, I suggest you rewatch it without you Bowles for President tee shirt on and key on #51. (Sorry had to get one Bowles shot in).

CoryC@ You have every right to your opinion.

  13. Beeej Says:

Feel bad for the D, with several stars out, they held a top 5 team to 238 total yards

  14. HC Grover Says:

Coach Obowlzo has fundamentally changed the Bucs.

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I do not agree with the fake punt call. However, had Bernard not miffed the catch, he had a TON of real estate, and a wall of blockers in front of him.
Hate to stick up with Todd Bowles, but sometimes he is right.
Last Sundays game was a case of Bucs beating Bucs!

  16. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Bowels can “pull my finger” and I’ll have something for him.

  17. Beeej Says:

Read an interview where Jenna Lane ambushed him, he was trying to call off the play, as the conditions weren’t right

  18. Redeemer Says:

Last year the coaching didn’t matter. They simply had more talent in the passing game. Someone was always open. they could get cheap yards in the run game, because of the lighter boxes. This year they can’t run, not even with numbers in the box. If you can’t make defenses pay for playing pass every down, they’ll keep playing coverage. That’s akin to putting handcuffs on the offense. This group of recievers was also vastly overrated. Joe said this group could be the best in NFL history. That was silly then, and is a joke now. IMO, the mark of good coaching is the ability to do more with less. These coaches have been exposed, because they can’t do that.

  19. Beeej Says:

We seem to be all possession receivers, as opposed to the Cheetah Hill types

  20. matthew veal Says:

Only 2 of the ol front 6 from Last year, 3 all pro level players gone

  21. MadMax Says:

It has to be by design! How else do you explain the way they were playing that first half and then stopped and gave it away the 2nd.

Ive been saying it for a while, it has to be by design.

If we make the playoffs and go to the SB, remember I was pointing it out…they tricked everyone lol, but not me 🙂

  22. D-Rok Says:

If someone connected to this Bucs team like Sherman is, cannot identify a solution, then I don’t know who can. Don’t call Sherman a stupid football jock -homey went to Stanford, he’s smart, and he was always a smart player.

The default is to point to coaching, because coaches are responsible for the product on the field.

  23. steele Says:

Easy answer, folks. There is so much blame for so many different and tricky issues, that you can point your fingers in every direction, and still need more fingers. Come on, wake up, mediots. It’s not just one thing or one guy.

BUT who and what is ultimately responsible for FIXING it all? COACHES and OWNERSHIP. Top down.

Lack of leadership, control and direction results in exactly what are you are seeing, and have seen since last season: players all over the place, confused and/or freelancing and pushing, quitting or wanting to, mental disinterest and post-SB malaise, lack of “chemistry”, etc. etc. All that piled on over and above the typical problems of a team and a locker room in any season.

Bucs are going to the super bowl this year

  26. Tony Says:

I know what’s going on. We’re catfishing teams. We’re just reeling them in & if they do make the playoffs THAT’S WHEN THEY’RE GONNA START AVERAGING 40 POINTS! WE’RE JUST AVERAGING 17 POINTS RIGHT NOW JUST TO REEL TEAMS IN THINKING WE STINK! That’s what’s gonna happen. We’re just sucking them all in.

  27. JD Says:

After what I saw in the first half, Bucs are definitely going to the Superbowl!

  28. The Anomaly Says:

    Licht is lazy.

He thought he could put orange cones at positions because…Brady.

Licht and staff are complete losers. Still.

    BA…still owe you an apology.

  29. Vancouver Buc Says:

I actually feel more upbeat after this past loss than the previous debacles. Yes tale of two halves, Bucs finally dominate the first half and then give it away with 5 turnovers all in our own end of the field in the second. So take away the turnovers and it’s a different game altogether. Can’t see Brady doing that again and with McCoy in concussion protocal this weekend’s game could finally see the Bucs explode on both sides of the field.

  30. David Says:

I don’t get why this is so difficult. It’s everyone. From the coaches to every single player. Bad calls, bad execution, bad mistakes at the wrong time. They have all been constant. It all started in the off-season with BA stepping down and Brady retiring and un-retiring. Distractions. Then dealing with divorce and missing training cam. Then weddings and now lawsuits, etc. etc. etc.
It’s been nothing but one distraction after another off the field.

On the field 60% of the O line was brand new. The vaunted receiving corp was decimated within the first couple of weeks, and that has lingered throughout. The defense has played very well despite all of their injuries. The D line, though, needs help. JTS has not progressed, VEA can’t seem to play more than 50% of the snaps at best and hall looked promising than has gone missing for two months.

They need an injection of youth, speed, and BL needs to be fired

  31. Redeemer Says:

David, throw in front runners too. When the going gets tough, the bucs get pounded. If they don’t answer the bell these last Three, you can throw in soft too. Even with all the drama, injuries and nonsense, they’re still highly paid professionals. Three very winnable games, then bring on Dallas. It’ll be a fitting end to Brady’s career. The old gunslinger, like Gary Cooper, everyone betting against him. I’ll take my chances

  32. Goatfarmer Says:

When the contents of a bowl of suck are puréed in a food processor, it results in Bowels of suck.

  33. The South African Says:

    Solution…Jensen.

It seems crazy that one player is the key to unlocking this offense but plug him in, the OL turns into power… Leverett, Hainsey, Jensen, Mason & Wirfs.

That OL will open the run game and will give Tom the extra half a second of protection to wait for Mike, Julio, Chris, Gage to get open.

You can even give Leverett a TE to help prevent all the holdings.

  34. Capt.Tim Says:

    Cant help but laugh.
They are exactly where several of us said they would be, back in July.
    July.
Yet so many people seem mystified.

  35. Defense Rules Says:

David … Very impressive summation of our current situation. Yes it is EVERYONE; no one’s blameless. Maybe it all comes back to too many changes too quickly, from coaching changes to player changes. Throw in injuries & this is a team seems to shoot itself in the foot far too often.

And yet, that 1st half last Sunday gives me hope. It’s come down to the wire and we NEED 3 wins. We could probably make the playoffs with 2, but we need to go into the playoffs hot. Somehow, someway, Bucs NEED to put it all together now.

  36. Ed Says:

The only way the Bucs can start winning games is if they play in a desperation mode. If they ever get a lead they must continue to try and score more points. Every game they have had a lead they change their offensive plays and go completely into a no-risk offense with all these runs and screens and passes in front of the sticks. It is so obvious to see, they don’t play to win on offense.

They need to throw out the game plans and no matter what position they are in they cannot try and run out the clock in the 3rd quarter or even in the end of the half.

Mentally they fall apart so they have to just let it go and play like they need to score on every series. May sound simple but it has been one mistake after the other when they play slow ball.
