What Got Bucs Frustrated At Halftime?

December 27th, 2022

Locker room tensions flared.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall.

Every once in a while you hear about something that happened in the Bucs locker room behind closed doors without media access.

Last year, before Antonio Brown flipped out and started doing topless jumping jacks in the end zone of MetLife Stadium, he apparently got into it with someone in the locker room at halftime.

Might be a couple of years before we find out the truth.

Getting players to talk about a locker room hassle is like getting a priest to discuss what someone owned up to in a confessional. Players consider the gameday locker room sacred territory.

But Playoff Lenny admitted there was more than one player venting and hollering (at someone) in the locker room Sunday.

“Coming into halftime, everybody was kind of frustrated and said what they had to say to get it off their chests,” Playoff Lenny said. “I told (Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator) Byron (Leftwich) ‘Man, listen, we’ve been here before and in worst situations too.’ So I told him ‘`let’s go out there make plays, give me the ball, let’s get it going.”

Are Bucs offensive players getting fed up with having their hands tied when they know they can produce if unleashed?

Are Bucs defensive players tired of carrying the load and having to bail out the putrid offense after so many three-and-outs when they know the offense can produce much better?

Joe would love to know what happened and who was hollering at who. That’s a goal for Wednesday. Sadly, Joe expects guys will have zipped lips about it.

But it’s good to read players were angry and upset at halftime. That tells Joe they still care and have not checked out mentally.

Too bad Suh and JJP weren’t there. I believe there are guys that have given up on the play calling and philosophy, by Leftwich and Bowels

  2. Kentucky Buc Says:

Lenny is a known embellisher in case you haven’t figured that out.

  3. Wokeizdunn Says:

Worth saying again…the dynamic permitted by the owners/GM of keeping BA around as some advisor automatically plants the ideas the HC/OC are not the “real” coaches…and this may (seem to) work as long as things go well. But they haven’t gone well all year. Denial and backpeddling to the media/fans by the coaches makes it more frustrating to all, especially the players. There is probably plenty of finger-pointing going along various divides…players v players, players v coaches, coaches v coaches, etc. The fact no one apparently stepped up and filled JPP’s and Suh’s leadership shoes is more of a mental attitude – to let someone else do this. I wonder if anyone has revisited a simple rule that Derrick Brooks has often used: “You all need to be playing for eachother.” If that is true, you can get to where you want to be as a team.

🤣🤣 he said give me the ball.

Yelling and shouting from an NFL locker room of a team that has been way under performing, what do you know.🤡 🤡

    WHATEVER

  6. SufferingSince76 Says:

Means nothing because it never translates to the field. These guys talk a good game, but can’t play one.

  7. Mike Says:

It sure didn’t help, they came out and did nothing and continue to do nothing

Even on the 1st 67 yard TD drive. 5 check downs to rb and a 5 yard option to Godwin is not really a drive

But let’s keep cheering the great bowles defense even though the putrid Arizona offense led by a nothing corner back had 2 turnovers in scoring territory and but for a false start may have had a shot at a game inning field goal

Letting a team get 16 led by a nothing qb and a coach on his way out after the gm is already out is NOT a good defensive performace

  8. Panhandle Buc Says:

Yet, we still looked like poop!

  9. firethecannons Says:

Even if we do not get much farther and this is end of the road for TB12 I will never forget these come from behind no huddle hurry up. Beating the Saints in 2020 in the playoffs and twice this year especially this last game 3 weeks back. Beating the saints is as good as it gets. would just love to see this team come alive it Brady’s game not Bowles. Todd Bowles has ruined this team and it is a damn shame. Hope he is fired and the entire staff goes along for the ride–had enough. FIRE TODD BOWLES

  10. Armybucsfan Says:

I would have liked it better if Lenny just said “ STFU BOWELS AND LEFTITTIE AND LET THR PLAYERS PLAY!!! Lol

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Throw it to Mike if you want to win.

  12. JA Says:

What’s there to yell about? Everything?

This offense sputters like an old, unserviced Model T. Brady overthrows an easy touchdown to a wide open Julio Jones. Result:field goal.

Brady repeatedly under throws a wide open Mike Evans, leading to two bad interceptions. Result:two Brady turnovers.

Thereafter, a Julio Jones touchdown gets called back. The next play Brady hits Godwin for a first down but that too is called back for holding. Instead of first and goal it’s third and forever. Result:field goal.

To top off the fine play last night, Lavonte David drops his 100th chance at an interception and Carlton Davis fails to secure an easy pick right in his hands.

With that, and countless more breakdowns from our sputtering Model T, who is gonna yell at who? Gonna yell at Teflon Tom? I think not.
Nobody, like B.A. was known to do on occasion, is gonna call out Mr. Brady in 2022.
Therein lies the difference between the two head coaches and the play on the field. Nobody should have an immunity card when facing the accountability judge.

  13. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I believe there is always batching and moaning at halftime, even when we were winning. Until we learn otherwise this was probably more of the same.

  14. RuKa_44 Says:

@Mike: you hit the nail on the head. Whatever was the shouting about nothing changed…

  15. RuKa_44 Says:

….and I agree with you: this defense is not that great! The offense is so so bad that it disguises that fact, as there is no point discussing D with a much pressing problem being the Offense. But… D is not the amazing unit some people talk about

  16. adam from ny Says:

since the first 2 games of the year, when we potentially caught teams still sleeping, or not hitting stride yet, we are 5-8…

and if tommy b didn’t pull those 3 games out of his hat for victories —rams, saint, cards— we would be 2-11 since the first 2 games of the season…

    just a thought

  17. NEfan Says:

Who cares, falls on deph ears. For the Brady haters:

    Brady 32-48 281 1td 2 ints

    Hebert 24-31 235 int

    Wilson 15-27 214 1 td 3 int

    Roger’s 24-38 228 1 td int

    Tua. 16-25 310 1 td 3int

    Carr. 16-30 174 1 td

    Mahomes 16-28 224 2 tds

    Smith. 25-40 215. 1 td 1int

    Burrows 40-52 375 3 tds 2 int

    Allen. 15-26 172 2 tds 2 int

    Lawrence 20-31 229

I didn’t get D. Watson stats but they were not good.

My point Bucs fans, be careful what you wish for. Brady is as good as any.

  18. NEfan Says:

JA, go back and watch the game the first int Mike looked in where Brady threw the ball then like the stumble bum that he is he flops off in the other direction. The second one is on Brady tried to drop it over the safety. Once they went to hurry up, did he miss Mike??? Most of you clown haters don’t know the difference between a over thrown and under thrown ball from a ball getting thrown away or a throw to protect a wr. Learn the difference you’ll enjoy the game more.

  19. BucsFanSince76 Says:

JesusFFingChrist-most of you are NOT REAL FANS with all this whining and crying after a FREAKING WIN on the road that puts Bucs within one home win of reaching the playoffs. Brady and the defense will SHUT YOU WHINERS UP Sunday. Be pleased that your team can punch their playoff ticket at home as I suffered through decades of meaningless games by the halfway point of the Bucs seasons.

  20. Cchead Says:

Mix in some no huddle thru out the game and Bucs win. Only problem is Todd Blowes won’t allow that.

  21. Duane Says:

NEfan still showing the wrong stats and skewing the numbers for his hero. Its all about the wins and losses.

  22. Hodad Says:

My wife, and I were yelling too! Not at each other, but what we were witnessing from the Bucs. We didn’t have to wait for the half to start yelling either.

  23. HC Grover Says:

Maybe the playoff money on the table will make a diff Sunday.

  24. mg Says:

    lol, Hodad

  25. ocala Says:

anyone that thinks the Bucs are better with Brady not being the QB next year are beyond foolish.

  26. LakelandSteve Says:

Not sure what they are going to do Sunday. Wirf’s, Smith and Wells are all probably out at tackle. Hey maybe Kenyatta Walker can still play.

  27. NEfan Says:

Duane, it takes 53 players to win, not 1. Brady led the drive Sunday but it took Lenny, Gage, Otton, Evan’s, Godwin, Succop and the oline to step up. Even though the QB gets pinned with the W’s & L’s no team wins with 1 player. I’m just showing you the grass isn’t always greener.

  28. Beej Says:

That second pick, it wasn’t particularly overthrown or underthrown, Brady released it late and by the time the ball got there Evans had no more separation

Depends on the QB you replace him with. Bucs will pick mebbe 15th, so no top tier rookies, and I’m not aware of any free agents that would be a step up, which leaves Gabbert and Trask.

Brady is still among the best in the league with a top tier line in front of him

NE butt boi go sizuck off mac jones and stfu

  31. BucsFanSince76 Says:

Ponder this -TB12 sounded very optimistic in his podcast about Jensen. Say Bucs win Sunday and Jensen is ready for the home playoff game against Dallas and Wirfs is rested and ready as well as Smitty. Bucs Oline could be Jensen at Center , Hainsey at LG, Smith at LT, Mason at RG, and Wirfs at RT. Bucs beat Dallas on the road this season and not scared of anybody in the NFC other than SF.

  32. geno711 Says:

    NEfan.

I agree with Brady mostly not the problem, but he did during part of the game on Sunday night look quite poor in his decision making and throwing ability.

I also am not sure why you went into a two-comment rant on Brady in this article since there was only 1 of 3 comments above yours that even mentioned Brady and it certainly was not out of context for the Sunday night game.

It was odd too that you put more blame on Evans than Brady on the 1st interception. If you watched more than this season, it has been obvious that Evans and Brady have been an excellent combination the 1st two seasons they were together.

This season Brady really has really missed Evans a lot by very bad throws. I am sure there were at least a couple of times when Evans maybe was not where expected. But certainly, most of the time, it has been inadequate throws by Brady.

  33. ClwJB Says:

Same thing that makes them mad week after week

Wasting talent with bad coaching and watching far lesser players get schemed open time and time again by their opponents

  34. NEfan Says:

Bucblobill@ are you like Bowels & leftnut? Stats don’t mean anything? That the best you have as a rebuttal. I guess they don’t educate much living in a swamp camp with your sister wife.

  35. JA Says:

    NEfan—

    “Clown Hater?”
Deep thinking and well written. Harvard man?

There’s a difference between constructive criticism and hating. I don’t loathe Brady, far from it. But, unlike you, I don’t elevate him to diety status either.
Sycophynt minions like you are defined by their unadulterated worship of another human being.
We are all flawed and should be subject to examination——including me and definitely you.
In the minion mind the object of worship can do no wrong. Hence your incredulous defending of Brady. They were bad throws!!
And he’s thrown many this year compared to his previous efforts.
Tell me please, do you have a photo of Brady atop your night stand?

  36. orlbucfan Says:

I agree with you, JA. Old Methuselah 0 really “played” like a first round HOFamer, now didn’t he? I hope LVD and others gave him the stink-eye BIG time. He sure ain’t anything to write home about, the way he misses wide open All-Pro receivers. I hope the football gods take pity on our team this weekend. in Tampa.

  37. Hodad Says:

Brady ain’t the problem, but he ain’t the solution either.

  38. JA Says:

    Otlbucfan …

Back at ya, especially with regard to the metaphysical football entities taking pity on the Bucs this weekend.
We’re gonna need some help from somewhere ‘out of this world’ to win on Sunday.
Go Bucs! May the Force be with you!

  39. NEfan Says:

JA, very well written, it must have taken you some time on a thesaurus site to make yourself look somewhat intelligent. I am not trashing Mike, he is a below average route runner. If you take the time to watch the game again, Mike turns in which is POSSIBLY why Brady threw inside rather than out. If Mike stayed on that same path he may have caught it and or knocked it down.

I believe 100% neither Mike or Brady are losing it. It is obvious neither can function in the current O the killer B’s are running.

  40. Destinjohnny Says:

Considering Jason licht gave us the worst offensive line in football.
We are actually doing really well funny enough.

  41. Bucanero Says:

    BucsFanSince76, amen Sir. Go Bucs!

  42. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I’ll say this. Brady has had some “off” passes the past few weeks, but ME13 looks disinterested and loafing a lot. He did absolutely nothing to help defend either one of those picks once he saw he wasn’t going to catch them. Help your guy out man.

  43. Bucamania Says:

ME13 is totally disinterested. He’s sick and tired of this Bowles 90s offense, like everyone else. Yeah let’s pound the ball with a pillow soft offensive line that can’t get 1 stinking yard in 3 tries. So dumb.

  44. Frank Pillow Says:

It’s all coaching. Players seemingly have no faith in their leadership.

  45. Jeff Says:

    Carolina 27 Bucs 17.

  46. unbelievable Says:

Are Bucs defensive players tired of carrying the load and having to bail out the putrid offense after so many three-and-outs when they know the offense can produce much better?

How could they not be? Everyone can see the issues, except the 2 stubborn donkeys in charge- Bowles and Leftwich.

  47. RustyRhinos Says:

I agree with Frank Pillow, Now there was a buccaneer player who has seen their share of poor coaching. Never seeing a 6 win season. The Ray Perkins, and Richard Willamson eras. Thank you! To Buccaneer Owners and GMs, Coaches, and Players. I do Miss the Uniforms. And Frank Pillows, if this is you. Thanks, I was a fan of yours.

  48. dbbuc711 Says:

I’m tired of Lenny not being able to pick a dang yard.
