Tom Brady: My Bad

December 19th, 2022

Bad Tom.

Joe has to give Jameis Winston Tom Brady credit for his remarks after last night’s game.

Brady didn’t dodge, duck or hide — though it seemed he was chased off when he asked (and answered) a question about Joe Burrow.

Brady owned up to what may have been the worst game of his career, certainly his worst as a Bucs quarterback when he turned the ball over on four straight possessions. That helped allow Burrow to go all Kirk Cousins on the Bucs’ defense and score 34 unanswered points for a 34-23 win last night.

“The two fumbles were my fault – it was uncharacteristic,” Brady said. “One of the interceptions was just a terrible throw, and the other one, I got hit, the guy was laying on the ground and the ball landed in his arms.”

Summed up fairly nicely.

Part of the reason for the turnovers, though indirectly, was Bucs failing offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich being true to himself. He didn’t/couldn’t adjust.

The Bengals were increasing their pressure on Brady and it didn’t appear the Bucs tried any different blocking schemes than they used in the first half. As a result, Brady got jumpy (gun shy?).

Joe saw once Brady take off when he didn’t need to, then change his mind/direction and go back in the pocket and throw an awful pass.

Joe expects this the rest of the way. It’s been this way for months. No adjustments, SOS, not scoring 22 or more points… Joe could go on.

Why should Bucs fans expect a different outcome?

Jameis Winston…wow! How many SB he win for us?

First morning after this putrid season, clean house. No choice.

No choice, first day after this putrid season, clean house.

Byron spent halftime celebrating scoring his average seventeen points and napped.

    Dumpsta fiewa.

  6. Uncle Urk Says:

I can not wait for Jensen and Wirfs to come back. I’d even keep hainsey and the backup RT on the line and turn the current LT to the swing tackle. I see brighter days ahead. And if not, Welp! Thank you Tom. It was fun while it lasted.

  7. Sbucs Says:

Go figure, Byron spent halftime celebrating scoring his average seventeen points and napped.

Devin White’s interview after the game was scary. He basically said the defense is getting tired of carrying the offense and special teams. Not good, but totally expected. I’m surprised it took this long for the defense to voice their frustrations publicly. Brady always bites the bullet when he plays awful. He owns it. I’m not a fan of players’ only meetings, but it might be time for an offensive meeting. Hopefully, Brady apologies to the defense during the team meeting. I know he’s done it before. It will also do good for possible team morale. I know the team doesn’t want to get embarrassed on Christmas Day on national TV.

  9. HC Grover Says:

Brady is the best thing that has happened to Buc Football since the 1st Super Bowl we won. I am tired of the Blame Brady Bunch. Go away ingrates.

  10. Uncle Urk Says:

Btw… we have to keep Bowles. He is a great defensive minded coach and will win us more games than he will lose. Defensively! He just needs an innovative OC. Someone with experience. That can draw up a play, scheme a guy open, adjust on the fly. Byron may be that guy someday, like the old LG may one day be good. The oline and OC killed this season. Period. Everything else is an affect of those weaknesses.

  11. sasquatch Says:

Please, can ATL or CAR just win out and take the NFCS from us, PLEASE!?! This team needs to be put out of its misery ASAP. Not one more week than is necessary! Playoffs? No. Don’t want it, not with this clownshow.

  12. Lamarcus Says:

Brady is playing with Jamies Weapons. Results may vary

  13. David Says:

I did not want to watch this game but just like Seattle and Dallas and Atlanta. they looked good for a 1/2. I think they have a total of 5 halves of football where they have played well on offense… in 14 games.
    PATHETIC

I personally hope they lose out, get some good draft picks, get rid of BL (at the very least), and I’ll see you next year!

  14. Bucsfan13 Says:

Brady says he doesn’t get any sleep when he loses. Boy, my guess is he’ll go straight to his offense and watch film all night long. He doesn’t have a nagging wife to go home to, so he should be fine. His podcast tomorrow should be interesting.

  15. Jack Sparrow Says:

Bucs game, the definition of a sh*t show !

  16. captivajim Says:

Brady has always said ; “he wants to continue playing as long as he can play at a high level .”

Well , he can’t & should offer to step aside ; so the Bucs can determine who’s our QB for the future. Is it Trask ?/ Play Trask against the cards–and we may just be surprised …

  17. Chuck Stevens Says:

Don’t get me wrong TB 12 is the best thing to happen to this team in a long time.
I also believe had the o- line not have been decimated over the summer some things may be different.
However the one thing lacking from the qb spot is much needed mobility .

  18. Bucsfan13 Says:

The Gators fan begging for Trask to start are hilarious. You do realize this guy has been a healthy scratch for like every game this season. If Trask did not play for a FL team, none of you idiots would be calling for him to start. Just homers. This team is still in the playoff hunt. Why in God’s name would they give the keys to Trask. This franchise has such a loser mentality. Sure, this team probably won’t do much in the playoffs, but you still want to make it to the playoffs. Anything can happen. Brady has had a bunch of bad firsts this year. The stench of our losing organization has rubbed off on him, and for that i apologize. I think Brady needed this season where he looked average and vulnerable.

Brady should retire after this season. I can’t stand for him to be embarrassed when he realizes there is no market for him once he hits free agency. He’s not the sole reason for this disappointing season, but he’s contributed. It’s been a lot more as of late. For those wanting Gabbert, you realize this guy has more interceptions than touchdowns in his career? It’s Brady or bust.

  19. Izod Says:

    VATom,

    stop living in the past!

Tom Brady is currently playing CRAP BALL. Even if all of our eyes lie, the scoreboard and the stats sure don’t.

That said, a lot of this is on Leftwich & Bowles for not better tuning the offense to hide the fact that TOM BRADY CAN NO LONGER THROW THE FOOTBALL CONSISTENTLY WELL.

  20. Joe Says:

The Gators fan begging for Trask to start are hilarious.

It’s too late to tank. If they wanted to start tanking they needed to start back in October after losing to the Chiefs and Packers.

As it is now, the Bucs could tank their last four games and still win the division. Then they’d get stuck with a draft pick in the 20s. So what’s the point of starting Trask and losing? Does anyone really believe short of hiring Dan Mullen that the new coach will want to hitch his wagon to a guy who has dressed once in two seasons (and that is when the NFL forced the Bucs to dress Trask)?

  21. Bucsfan13 Says:

Exactly Joe! The Trask fan boys are delusional, and if you call them out on it, they call you a hater. Bowles has no interest in playing Trask. He won’t even let him dress! I remember when Gabbert’s name was called in Tennessee when Mariota went down, and he promptly threw two pick sixes. Brady is our best bet to win.

  22. Hodad Says:

It wouldn’t be fair to Trask sticking him into this mess. The kid wouldn’t stand a chance. I will say the past two games Gabbert should’ve come in for Brady when it was clear we couldn’t win. Keeping Brady in during blowouts for hard practice is another reason to fire Bowles.

  23. JimmyfromNY Says:

U trolls just don’t get it. He still slinging the ball. He stilll tops in the league in several categories. Yesterday was just an anomaly of mistakes that usually doesn’t happen. If you don’t think teams will be lining up to get him next year you’re out of your mind and hs will be surround with competent people. Trask will thruw 7!TD with 18 int next year on a 1 win team.

  24. J Ghotier Says:

He could’ve easily thrown another 2 INT’s too. Bates dropped an easy one in first half and a sideline breaking route was almost picked too…..both should’ve been.

  25. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Clean house

  26. ClwJB Says:

We know it’s time to clear out the coaching staff – what a joke they are

We went all turtleshell right out of the gate in the second half and imploded

  27. NEfan Says:

J Ghotier@ EVERY QB in the league throws a almost pick, look at the almost picks from Burrow last night. That’s reaching dude. There is no doubt I am one of the biggest Brady fans on this site. Yes BL did nothing to compensate for the adjustments Cincy made and 4 turnovers is unacceptable. Bowles had the perfect opportunity to show leadership last night. After the 3rd turnover he should of sat Brady and played Gabbert letting his team poor execution is not acceptable. He didn’t and the D did what the D always does, mirrors the offense once adversity comes their way.

F White, someone let CAPTAIN White know his D let up 79 POINTS in two games. That’s NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!! Turn three of those into FG’s and Bucs win.

  28. Thisisouryear!! Says:

Trask won’t even start next year. It’ll be the Blaine Gabbert show. For all those begging for trask he hasn’t been able to top Gabbert on the depth chart.

  29. SB~LV Says:

    No Game for Old Men

  30. Tbbucs3 Says:

“Brady is the best thing that has happened to Buc Football”

Brady WAS the best thing to happen to Bucs football…but it’s 2022 and that ship has sailed…is Brady not allowed to be called out for his bad play all of a sudden?

  31. JimmyfromNY Says:

As bad as it’s been, this team is not in first place with six wins without Brady. He saved your bacon and some of the games that they’ve won. All the intangibles around this team are horrific.you still have a shot with him a QB and some of your people calling for Kyle Trask you’re either related to him Chiefs fans or know absolutely nothing about football. I don’t see people talking about the lack of separation from these overrated receivers, it’s a huge issue every ball thrown is contested. He’s one of the few quarterbacks in the league that can be in that type of situation and succeed. There aret many others. Outside the third quarter yesterday he was slicing and dicing. It will translate over the next three weeks book it.

  32. Bucsfan2520 Says:

This game went south because of Bowles decision to take a punt up 17-3. Incompetent leadership. Patriots and Brady should’ve worked it out. Bill and Tom both deserve better.

  33. NEfan Says:

Ttbucs, ABSOLUTELY, the turnover undoubtedly led to the loss. It would have helped if the D made a few stops instead of ridiculous penalties extending drives. WHY did the O go back to the same o, same the second half? What happened to the creativity? Balance? Fake punt from your own 27? That’s cocky arrogance. I don’t get it, 1st half SB contenders, 2nd half getting points from Houston.

  34. Conte Piscatelli Says:

You said it. Brady got jumpy, he’s been jumpy all season, or overly quick to dump everything off. This isn’t winning quarterback play, it’s what you expect from a rookie. It’s hearing footsteps and pulling your eyes down and looking at the rush.

  35. X Says:

Stop mentioning Jameis Winston in the same breath as Tom Brady there is absolutely no means of comparison.

  36. NEfan Says:

Joe is being politically correct. He is appeasing the Brady haters/Winsten groupies. I applaud you Joe, keep all the readers happy. That’s how you secure more pop up advertisers.

  37. Reggie Jax Says:

How do you fake a punt when your up 14 points deep in your own territory. Bowles has no grasp of the game. One of the dumbest decisions he could ever make. Just as bad as making a throw to Brady in the other game. He’s gotta go.

  38. Reggie Jax Says:

    Giovanni gotta go also.
