Tom Brady Has Saved The Bucs

December 27th, 2022

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

This is why Joe is so pessimistic about the Bucs beating the Stinking Panthers on New Year’s Day.

Take away Tom Brady’s magic late in games, and the Bucs are plunging with a Raheem Morris or Greg Schiano kind of way. And when both coaches had terrible losing streaks with seeming no way out, it was the end of their coaching days with the Bucs.

If not for Brady’s magic, the Bucs would have one win since (barely) beating the Dixie Chicks back in October. And that one win was the only game this year where the Bucs looked like a decent team. And they had to fly to Munich to do it.

Folicly-challenged Billy Barnwell of BSPN suggests nothing the Bucs have tried to do all year has succeeded. And that’s a bad sign for the coaching staff. Barnwell noted the way the Bucs are playing, they are hanging onto a playoff chance by the skin of their teeth.

The Bucs are 4-6 over their past 10 games, and three of those victories — over the Rams, Saints and Cardinals — have required fourth-quarter comebacks. Tampa Bay has been hanging on for dear life for three months.

Needing miracle finishes to beat horrible teams is not good. And even though the Stinking Panthers have a losing streak, interim Carolina coach Steve Wilks, unlike the Bucs’ coaches, has found a way to squeeze out a few wins.

Joe has a very, very bad feeling about Sunday. Recent history suggests the Bucs will struggle. Again. And only Brady’s comeback spirit in the final minutes would save them.

Bucs will get smoked like the Niners game or worse. Bowels will get blown out.

  2. freddy Says:

out of all 32 teams is brady the only statue QB left? seems like every team has a QBwith some mobility that can improvise and pick up some yards with there feet when the play breaks down except for the bucs and maybe Viking with kirk cousins

  3. Darin Says:

Yeah Freddy the guy with All the rings is the one you are referring to. Yeah Joe bowles will find a way!! A way to what we already know.

  4. Tap-Out Says:

^^^That would be the team gets blown out…Brady has made a name for himself making “COMEBACKS”! No one is shy of giving him all the (for lack of a better word) GLORY when he orchestrates a game winning drive but now that he is here he is not expected to be that same guy! He is the QB and when he has a bad game, jump all over that lower back bone like you do all the coaches Joe! We won Sunday no matter how we did it, no matter who (Joe and others here) don’t like how we accomplished it! …and I fully expect this team to win out the season and Take The Division Title! ….but let me be clear, Winning the Division has got tone the ultimate goal at this point!! GO BUCS!

  5. Rod Munch Says:

I’ll point out is that while the Bucs are 0-5 vs the AFC, they are 7-3 in the NFC, the same record as the Vikings and only a win behind the Eagles and Cowboys in that regard.

I haven’t done this in a few weeks, but lets make Arians the head coach again and go back over the losses – and I’ll guess if we’d have a different outcome or not…

    GB – W
    KC – L
    PIT – W
    CAR -W
    BAL – W
    CLV – W
    SF – L
    CIN – W

By my little chart there, the team would be 13-2 right now. Sure, that sounds ridiculous, but go game by game, and tell me Arians’ isn’t winning those games. Feel free to explain why I’m wrong – I think I’m pretty fair with those picks.

  6. FortMyersDave Says:

Vegas has moved its line from Bucs by 6.5 to Bucs by 3 so the betting public agree with Goatfarmer, the Bucs will get throttled if Bowels has his way.

  7. Buczilla Says:

I’m going to be pleasantly surprised if we beat the panthers. I’m also going to be frustrated and outraged as all hell if we bring back Bowles next year without a playoff win. I’m thinking that Leftwich is already toast at this point, but as bad as the front office and ownership have been this year with not making vital coaching changes who the heck can say?

Brady is a shell of what he was last year, but he’s still better than 90% of the other qb’s in the league. Beating the panthers is very doable if we can stop Brady from taking a beating. Pretty big if, but I’m feeling merry today since the most underachieving (to this point) season in Buc history is almost over.

  8. Rod Munch Says:

Buczilla – Again, I’ll point out that Brady isn’t coming back to the Bucs next year, so you’re in legit cap hell, with Trask as your QB who can’t even beat out Gabbert for the backup job, and you’re going to have to cut a bunch of guys while also not resigning guys. In that case, why in the world would you fire Bowles and Leftwich? The idea would be to lose, and the two biggest losers in the NFL are Bowles and Leftwich – so you keep them in order to try to get that 1st overall pick in 2024. THEN you clear house and start the rebuild with your new QB and a head coach. But it would make no sense to fire Bowles and Leftwich when regardless of who is coaching the team next year, they’re going to stink.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

FortMyersDave – I didn’t pay attention to any football news last week as we were coming up on Christmas, and I literally laughed out loud when before the Cards game I saw the Bucs were 7 1/2 points favorite. WOW, who in the world, who has watched this team, would be believe that the two losers running this team, Bowles and Leftwich, could possibly win by more than a touchdown? I wish I had seen that with enough time to get into my gambling site because I would have put down my entire balance on the Cards covering.

  10. Danbucsfan Says:

I agree with Rod, we honestly are not as bad as our record IMO, several bone head mistakes that would and could have changed outcomes, easily could be a 10 win team right now. Watch what happens in playoffs and this Sunday. BUCS ARE BACK BABY!! We going back to Arizona for the big game

  11. Danbucsfan Says:

And wait till we get payback in San Fran, Brady is on a different level in playoffs, playoff Lenny, Godwin, Evans gonna start being used in RedZone, Julio gonna be a factor too. EVERYONE been waiting to see them come together and , IT’S TIME! NOW …. NOW..NOW…NOW BUCS got weapons and I hear ESPN n some people say they r slow ..LMAO.. I will take Evans, Godwin, Julio and Gage against any other 4 wr group in NFL.. with Lenny and JENSEN coming back will boost the whole offense. GO BUCS!

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Danbucsfan – well to be clear, I’m saying that with Leftwich and Bowles leading this team, they’re not all that good, but with a real NFL coach at the helm, they’d be dramatically better. But that doesn’t mean I think they can suddenly turn it around, not with those two losers leading the team.

Early in the year the Bucs had Arians on the sideline during the game – they should bring him back for the Panthers game, and assuming the Bucs make the playoffs, he should be there again in that game. And the Glazers should personally ask/demand that Arians be involved with the offense during the game. It shouldn’t be left to Brady to have to be yelling at the offensive line to do their job, that’s what a real HC and OC would be doing.

But as for the record, I think the Bucs, with these two pieces of garbage running the team, in this care they are what they are. And it’s a complete shame since with Arians still coaching this team, I really think they’d be competing for the #1 seed in the NFC right now and everyone would be talking about how Brady is about to win another SB at age 45, which would be amazing.

  13. Sal Says:

Did you not watch the first time they played #? And what was the outcome #?

  14. FortMyersDave Says:

Yeah Rod, with competent coaching this team would have best GB, Pitt and Cleveland. A good coaching staff woul also have not been boatraced by Carolinaand would have adjusted vs B’more at home. By my calculation the Bucs should be 10 and 5 at the worst and possibly 12 and 3 with some better playcalling and clock management.

  15. Buczilla Says:

Rod, you can say Brady ain’t comng back until you’re blue in the face, but uness you are the second coming of Gandalf the Grey, you can’t make stuff happen just by saying it over and over. 😜 I didn’t think that there was a chance in hell that Brady was going to come here in the first place, but he did. No one, probably not even Brady knows what he’s going to do next year with certainty.

Keeping these sorry coaches around for another year makes sense for tanking purposes, but if we get a shot at a former head coach with a a good record, we’ve gotta pull the trigger on em.

  16. HC Grover Says:

Brady has prolly had enough of these Stiffs Bowzo and Lefty. He must be thinking only 2 more weeks of it.

  17. Buc4evr Says:

What lefty doesn’t realize is that the OLine is in such horrible shape that there is no way to keep Brady from getting sacked or hurried to throw the ball. Two yard gains and screen passes are not going to work. The Bucs can not sustain 15 play drives and score. If Bowles and Lefty do not change the offense this week they will be gone after the season. How can they be so stupid?

  18. steele Says:

But the thing is, skeptics, Brady is still there, and unless his arm falls off, forcibly dragged off the field, he will be there for late heroics, even with this bad team. Because that is what he does.

What little legacy he has for this season, it is this. Saving a bad team on fumes, over and over. Even with likely injuries, and little support. I’m willing to bet that Brady has known this, and is resigned to it. The impossible challenge (he loves those, sick man) of dragging this steaming heap all the way, somehow.

It should NOT be this way. This was purported to be “the team primed to win it all”. A team built for a final Brady SB. But we’ve known since summer, it ain’t. And Bowles and Leftwurst have gone out of their way to prove how NOT all-in they are. There is still—still—the bizarre hope that Brady saves Bowles’ job, by doing everything Bowles has prevented him from doing.

The odds are against. Look at the competition, in proper late season form.
Can this version of the Bucs fool everybody?

  19. Sucatkane Says:

Yep keep blaming the coaches brady missed a wide open Julio Jones in the end zone Sunday missed a wide open evans 3 times the last 2 games can’t run afraid to get hit the o line sucks beyond anything you should be saying the defense has saved us they are playing good enough to keep us in most games but all praise goes to the king Brady he is good I’m not saying that but Joe must have blinders on not to see what the real problems are do you think maybe we ran it 3 times and failed was because coaches suck or do you think that they were trying to get some firm of way to push the defense off our WR that are so covered due to lack of protection

  20. Chris Says:

This is such a silly argument, if we had a Mahomes or Allen that could throw the ball down the field we could’ve beaten the Steelers, Panthers and Browns. Probably wouldn’t have needed a last minute comeback for the other three wins.

  21. Kentucky Buc Says:

Carolina plays Bowles ball much better than the Bucs do. If Bowles tries the same crap Bucs are in trouble.

  22. Dallas Buc Says:

@Sucatkane well, analytics shows that simply running doesn’t free up the pass, or even play action. This is something Bowles doesn’t understand and has been criticized for. He once said that the Bucs don’t do as much play action because their run game is unsuccessful – defenses aren’t going to ignore play action because your run game is bad. They don’t want to get burned by a run when they know they can prevent it if they commit to it.
Yes, running well does help make passing easier, but running poorly doesn’t mean you have to give up play action, and throwing poorly doesn’t mean you have to force bad runs to make the defense think you might run later just so you can trick them with a pass later on.

  23. 1sparkybuc Says:

We have no chance with this coaching staff. If they return next season, I’m canceling Sunday Ticket. I’ll still check the scores, but I’ll save myself the aggravation of actually watching the games. This season was more frustrating than 1976. This team is not a playoff team by any stretch of the imagination. The Bucs will get eliminated Sunday and can start planning for the draft. Miami’s QB has concussion issues. Brady will move south to his new home.

  24. Davy Crocket Says:

This is Brady’s last regular season game as a Buc. If we win, they will save him for the playoffs. If we lose its time to see what Trask can do. Just a thought!

  25. firethecannons Says:

The only way we win is hurry up offense and utilize it throughout the game. I think this is TB12 last game too. Defense needs to be stout on the run and not let them get going otherwise we will never see the ball.

  26. Bucsfanman Says:

Somebody said it above, “it’s just who he is.”
Yeah, Brady has looked bad, he’s also been the first to own it. Get this team into the playoffs and lets see what happens.
I keep going back to the Eli Manning-led Giants and the “helmet catch” year.
    It CAN happen!

  27. Bucschamp Says:

are we better if BL is our head coach?

  28. BucsFanSince76 Says:

Bucs put 7 in the box to stop the run and make Darnold try to beat our corners-IF Bucs stop the run , Darnold cannot beat us. Bucs hold Panthers under 100 rushing and TB12 throws two TD’s-Bucs 23 Panthers 17. Brady will have his best game on display this week and all of you Brady Haters should SUCK IT!!!!!

  29. Tony Says:

    @Bucschamp

I’d think they’d be better off if Cartman was the coach over both of them right now. At least then maybe the team would RESPECT HIS AUTHORITY!😀

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Brady is like the firefighter who is an arsonist that sets fires so he can come put them out…

Sure, Brady saves the Bucs because the Bucs offense is so poor early in games.

Missed passes failure in red zone….turnovers.

  31. adam from ny Says:

omg Danbucfan is a completely gung-ho bucs fan that has lost his mind due to heavily spiked egg nog, or was up in vermont sniffing to much pine tree saw dust at the tree cutting range…

some bucs fans are not being realistic at this point…

like me…thinking we would beat the cards 30-16…

now why would i think we’re going to score 30 — because i still think we’re the bucs of the past 2 seasons — but we are not!

  32. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Worried about this game too, after the Panthers destroyed the Lions.
The Lions had been the hottest team in Football,. but the Panthers ran all over them.
The Panthers have purpose, they are playing for their coaches future.
    I hope we win!

  33. Kentucky Buc Says:

The lions suck on the road.

  34. mark2001 Says:

Anyone who isn’t deeply concerned about the Bucs ability to win this home game, just hasn’t been watching the team much of this year.

  35. NEfan Says:

    Freddy, Goff. Passing leaders.
Brady 1st in NFC 4th in the league
Cousins 2nd in NFC 6th in league
Goff 3rd in NFC 7th in the league

    3 statue qb’s aren’t too bad.

  36. Cobraboy Says:

Kitties will jam the ball down the Bucs throat, and stuff the Bucs running and passing game.

If it means dumping this staff, I am IK with that.

This team has no business in the playoffs. One and done is as bad as none and done. Just another week of pain and frustration.

I truly believed the Jets experience, along with the Arians tutorship taught Bowels something. I was wrong.

This team IS = to Williamson/Radio/Toesontheline. Or worse.

  37. NEfan Says:

Sorry Freddy, I screwed up Cousins is 5th in the NFL.

    Top 3:
    Burrows
    Mahomes
    Herbert
    Brady
    Cousins
    Allen
    Goff

Brady is less that 50yds from Herbert and Goff is about 25 yds behind Allen.

So pretty good mix of running and non-running QB’s.

  38. jstokes84@yahoo.com Says:

I have to say I can’t say Brady comeback magic has kept the Bucs above water. So, everyone wants to mention the comebacks. Let’s look at those comebacks. LA Rams (5-10), New Orleans Saints (6-9), and Arizona Cardinals (4-11). All three teams are not good and as a fanbase we are excited over comeback wins vs a team that Tampa should beat with no problems? Offense still can’t score over 17 points unless its garbage time at the end of the game. We are what our record says 7-8 ball team. If the opponent has 17 or less points and they let Tampa hang around within a possession or 2 late in the fourth quarter with a below average defense, then yes comeback is possible. However, a decent coached team and solid front 7 on the defense then it will become a tough task. I honestly don’t know how to feel about the rematch with Carolina. Front 7 is decent and Burns will have a chance to take advantage of injuries on the offensive line. Defense no longer can stop the run.

  39. Hodad Says:

Joe, you’re not being pessimistic, you’re being realistic. I think we’re going to be punked by the panthers. I can see them running the ball down our throat, and shutting down our pathetic offense. They have some studs on their D line, and we have duds on our O line. Say what you want about Darnold, but his arm at this point is better then Brady’s, and he can beat you deep. Plus he can move some. This game goes the way I think the Glazer’s will have no choice but to fire Bowles. You can’t lose the division to a team that already fired it’s coach, and traded away one of the best players in the NFL. Can’t do it!

  40. Bucobill999 Says:

Can’t play what if in real life losers do that

  41. orlbucfan Says:

Let’s get real Methuselah 0 groupies: we have NO idea if Trask is worse than Gabbert cos he’s never played an actual game. He looked pretty darned poised in the pre-season (which Joes hate for some lamebrain reason). M0 has lost at least 3 games all by his wrinkled lonesome.

  42. NEfan Says:

Oral, he LOST all 3 preseason games. What’s that tell ya??? Freaking moron.

  43. Lakeland Steve Says:

The chances of the Bucs beating the Panthers are slim to none and slim is walking out the door.

  44. Reggie Jax Says:

Panthers looked great last week. Doesn’t mean squat this week. Tampa will score first and never look back. Panthers HAVE TO play ahead to win. If Tampa scores first forget about Sam Donald pulling a Brady. I like The Bucs BIG.

  45. NEfan Says:

Reggie, I love the optimism but who is going to stop the Carolina Dline? No Smith and Wirf clearly wasn’t himself last game? If Bucs go into slow mo Bowles mode O, it will be another 50 pass wing it and hope day for Brady and co.

  46. JimmyfromNY Says:

Lol!! Kyle Tradk family is up early this morning!! I’m gonna be honest with you guys because that’s what you need. He iscnever throw more than 10 touchdown passes in his entire career and won’t start more than five games. Brady will be gone next year and you guys will be irrelevant. No one will care about the Bucs will probably won’t sell out another game for the next 10 years. These last three years he’s kept them irrelevant. And Brady trolls will find the next board whether it’s Miami, Los Angeles and San Francisco and just wait for him to have a bad game and pounce!! Lol Yes, this is a 1 win team without Brady. It doesn’t matter Josh Alam Patrick Mahomes would bechear they wouldn’t be any difference, be in the same situation. Those guys a turnover machine who need guys to be wide open down the field. They don’t throw the balls into tight windows. Either that they be the emergency room from the ofline. Weve seen Patrick Mahomes does without protection. It’s a complete mess.

  47. Tye Says:

Todd ‘the toilet’ Bowles has earned his nickname convincingly by turning 2 different teams into crap and flushing their season down into a cesspool!

Losing the game and the division lead would be fitting for a team lead by ‘The Toilet’!

  48. Randall Says:

    >Joe has a very, very bad feeling about Sunday

Yeah, I honestly can’t believe the Bucs are favored by 6 points in this game. I’d actually say the Panthers should be favored by 6. Bucs never seem to get fired up for games, while opposing teams are always fired up to beat the snot out of them. With Wells now out and Lenny having a bad foot, this could be a really ugly loss for the Bucs.

  49. Infomeplease Says:

The Bucs can win this Sunday! The Bucs can just as easily lose!!!!! This is the game plan of Bowles/Leftwich!!!!! Somehow stay close and pray someone on the Bucs makes a play for the win!!!! This is the MOST RIDICULOUS GAME PLAN EVER!!!

Maybe if you unleash the offense, you know the same one used the last 2 years, you know they averaged around 30 points per game, you may end up with a Winning season, or will you just pray somebody makes a play!!!

I’m praying the owners here wise up!!! FIRE these fools today!!!

  50. Murphy op Says:

Here’s what needs to happen if there going to win Sunday. Let Brady call the plays and run the no huddle often . Can’t run it every single time but as often as possible . The defense will play better knowing that the offense is doing all it can to win . Maybe it sounds too simple but if I could see what the cardinals were doing on defense so can Tom ! Let him do what he does best ! GO BUCS !

  51. ForeverCream Says:

What is this BSPN I keep seeing reference to?

  52. $fan Says:

Wouldn’t it be great if Payton comes down here next year to go all in for the trophy with Thomas Edward Patrick Brady? Man that would be awesome.
