Todd Bowles: Talking Is Over

December 13th, 2022

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

So after the game Sunday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles said his players as a group have hit a T-intersection. What do they want to be? A playoff team or a losing team?

That seems to be the razor-thin tightrope the Bucs are straddling. The Bucs have four more games, three of which are against garbage teams, two of those teams are divisional rivals.

With two more wins the Bucs (6-7) likely lock up the rotten NFC South and a home playoff game.

The way the Bucs have been playing, it wouldn’t shock Joe if the Bucs went 1-3. That’s how bad this team has performed, specifically the offense led by failing Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.

Asked yesterday in his day-after presser how the players reacted to Bowles’ words from Sunday night, Bowles said there is an open line of communication with the players and always has been. But he added it’s crunch time of the season. Put up or shut up. The time for empty talk is over he said.

“All players talk, coaches talk, we talk about it,” Bowles said. “It’s about doing the right things and following through and finishing it up.

“The talking part is kind of over. It’s kind of about producing at this point in time.”

Joe wonders what Bowles is getting at. Is Bowles suggesting the weekly pregame stunt of one of his starting linebackers gathering at midfield and woofing might want to be discontinued because it’s on the same level as Jameis Winston eating W’s?

Or is it the same linebacker who has his ankles broken by a seventh-round draft pick of a quarterback making his first star?. You know, the same linebacker who barks how he won’t allow the Bucs to lose another game, then watches the same rookie seventh-round draft pick quarterback hang 28 points on his defense in the first half?

    More talk.

  2. Timbo Slice Says:

    What casual observer said ^^

  3. Onetrickpony Says:

    Casual Observer says more talk.
I say, and with nothing really being said.
    Yawn

  4. Onetrickpony Says:

Almost fell asleep reading what Bowles had to say

  5. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Oh so the plan is to actually play.

    Fire this guy ASAP.

  6. DEEEMO Says:

TALK IS CHEAP! Bowles is a terrible Head Coach (he proved that with the NY Jets) and his OC Leftwich is even worse. Bowles was a very good DC under B.A. but it is time to move on. I still can’t believe a team with this talent is this bad and boy are they hard to watch. I can see them going 1-3 in the next 4 games because the attitude of the players is very bad right now. Time has come for major changes!

  7. TexasBucsFan Says:

    Clueless

  8. Fishhawkbuc Says:

Bowles outs everyone to sleep during his pressers. I’m sure he does the same with his players. He will single hand idly take us down to the level of his Jets teams a few years ago. I hope we are not locked in on a long term contract with Sleepy Todd.

  9. Youngbucs Says:

I’m not blaming coaches for d smith sucking. I’m definitely not blaming coaches for Brady missing wide open wrs all season. Brady needs to put up or shut. Brady is a weak link this season film doesn’t lie!!!

  10. BucsFanSince76 Says:

Early in the game Istinka had a clear unobstructed line to Purdy and he was beaten miserably , so Purdy deeked alot of guys , and it is just poor technique and a lack of execution against a slower player.

  11. Bucfan Says:

Please lose out so the Bucs will get a new coaching staff!

  12. Kentucky Buc Says:

Time for talking is over so STFU Bowles.

  13. SufferingSince76 Says:

So he’s going to keep his mouth shut for the rest of the season because all he does is talk.

  14. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

BOWLES IS AN IDIOT…..change my mind.

  15. Cobraboy Says:

This is not a playoff team.

  16. Cobraboy Says:

I am disappointed these coaches are still here “talking.”

  17. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Mannnnnnnnn……all this dude does is talk.

    Bowles……..you’ve lost your team already.

All you got now is a bunch of millionaires playing for themselves……this is not a football team we’re seeing on the field on Sundays.

  18. Guzzie Says:

And if (doubtful) the Bucs beat the Bengals, think Texans almost beating the Cowboys type upset, and all is well in Bucsland

  19. BucsFan81 Says:

I could actually see them losing all 4 games and going 0-4 which that would pretty much guarantee some people getting fired.

  20. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Bucs ain’t beating the Bengals…….

And they’ll be lucky to honestly win another game after the sheit show in San Fran.

    This team is just awful.

  21. BucU Says:

This team has tuned out Bowles and Leftwich.
They have lost this team and THAT is a fireable offense. This latest disgusting debacle proves that point. We went from SB contender to laughingstock in less than 1 season. FIRE THIS STAFF NOW.

  22. Ron Pepka Says:

Fire Leftwich and have him take Bowles with him, hurry.

  23. CapeceIsCaput Says:

I think Bowles is fine with not talking. In fact, I think he prefers it. The problem is that his team needs leaders and are woefully lacking in that area and he has shown that he isn’t the leader type.

  24. ocala Says:

Fire Leftwich and Bowles. Worst head coach and offensive coordinator in the league.

  25. Mark2001 Says:

Agreed. Time for the coach to take responsibility.

  26. Always Next Year Says:

I just seen Cole Beasley is coming out of retirement to play for the Bills again. Didn’t take him long in Tampa to see the shyt show they’ve been this year. The Bucs are between a rock and a hard place with Bowles and Leftwich. They should both be gone, but it’s not as simple as that.

  27. AmauryGuzman Says:

Licht failed on the season. These guys should have been fired weeks ago. BL wouldn’t have a job right now if he was another team. How he still has a job is ridiculous. Every team in the nfc south has score more points than this team. Think about that for a second. Wow.

  28. Alanbucsfan Says:

The OLine stinks and the DLine stinks, hence the Bucs stink

  29. NEfan Says:

He left them all speechless when he called for the 55yd FG. There ain’t NO players going to him for advice, they don’t even celebrate with him when something great happens (few and far between). Oneilsuckyall says Brady doesn’t get whacked for when they lose, he only gets credit when they win. Well he’s been whacked by the media 7 times already this season and got to share that experience with his family Sunday. I don’t see any other players or coaches trashed like he is in the media even though it wasn’t him who let up 35 to a 3rd string QB. The headline is Purdy beat Brady, NOT Purdy beat the Bucs. So eff off Oneilsuckyall oral, Ttsucs, zzsucs, beanbag, BigMacpudwak and all the haters.

  30. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

He doesn’t know what he’s doing. It’s like he expects them to lead themselves. He wants 53 men to independently figure it out then come together as a unit like a bee hive.

  31. Rayjay1122 Says:

They are still talking though, talking about where they are going to vacation right after the regular season ends.

  32. ModHairKen Says:

Devin White has regressed. He’s a lot of hat and no saddle.

Donovan Smith has regressed. He’s now bringing his personal sh!t to the stage.

    The Center is ok.

The DBs have all regressed. Where are the interceptions?

The new style of dink and dunk is a failure.

    Leftwich’s play calling has regressed.

Bowles is not a good coach. He does not inspire. Players don’t woof midfield if the fear or respect the Head Coach.

So Bowles saying the time for talk is over is just talk.

  33. Thomas Edrington Says:

Starts at the top — a LOSER is trying to lead a team with the ultimate WINNER at QB…………doesn’t mix……Bowles and his staff NEED TO BE SHOWN THE DOOR

  34. NEfan Says:

Where the head goes the arse follows. This team has lost to PJ Walker, Brissett, Trubinsky/Pickens, Purdy. I can only imagine what Burrows will do. The Bucs better hope it’s 90° with 95% humidity Sunday and hope that puts the Bengals asleep.

  35. Paratrooper Buc Says:

This reminds me of a comic strip showing a comedy version of history regarding John Paul Jones quote: “I have not yet begun to fight!” In the comic he is saying the quote while ship is on fire and riddled with cannon ball holes and one of his men says “Well you better start now!”

This is joke. Defense has done its job for the most part this season. Offense has been terrible. Oline and playcalling are the biggest issues then Brady being ragged because he throws the most of any QB in NFL and

This is joke. Defense has done its job for the most part this season. Offense has been terrible. Oline and playcalling are the biggest issues then Brady being ragged because he throws the most of any QB in NFL and any qb would be exhausted and he is 45! Something needs to change as he will leave. Unless Tua is injured with another concussion it won’t be Miami. Saints are unlikely as they don’t have enough of a rebuild. I don’t see Brady going to patriots as belichick will treat him the same. I don’t see him going to 49ers because they have younger options. I don’t see him at colts though it’s possible if they have the right appeal as it’s up north but indoor but distance from his kids is likely a killer. But the Bucs…no way he will unless massive changes which we all doubt will happen way things have gone.

  37. Dick LeBeau Jr. Says:

I’m sorry, every team geeks themselves up before a game whether you suck or not. If you’ve played sports, you know this. The losses aren’t on White, it’s on the whole franchise. He just has one of the biggest mouths. This team has taken on the identity of its head coach. We went from firey to stoic and dry.

As for those wanting to fire Bowles already, no. How about we allow him to piece together his own staff first and then see what the outcome is regardless if Brady is here next year or not. We still have a decent roster that can be adjusted in the offseason.

  38. Tom G Says:

In addition to coaching changes, we need find a Left Tackle that can pass protect

  39. Gofortheface30 Says:

Cole Beasley magically deciding to unretire now. Lololol. Huge huuuge indictment with what’s going on here in Tampa. 🏴‍☠️ = 🎪 🤡

  40. Nayrb Says:

“The talking part is kind of over. It’s kind of about producing at this point in time.”

There is nothing “kind of” about it. The talking IS over, and it IS about producing!

  41. Red Skeleton Says:

” I am Hiyleee Disappointed” as Lovie would say…over and over and over

  42. Outsider Says:

Lmao this should’ve been the mindset after training camp was over. What a doofus.

  43. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

No way we best the Bengals, but we did get a gift yesterday! Arizona’s starting QB is injured, and likely out for the season, so we will face Colt McCoy instead.
This gives us a chance against Arizona, but then we have to play both Atlanta and Carolina, who have already beat us once this year.
We probably will make the playoffs, but there is no guarantee that we will.

Cobraboy hit the nail on the head when he said “This is not a Playoff Team”

  44. Lesko_Brandon Says:

All bark, No bite!!! what an embarrassment !

  45. Buc4evr Says:

Talking was over about 4 games ago. Coaching sucks, O lines sucks, QB sucks DBs suck and Bowles’ excuses continue to suck. Stick a fork in this team, they are done.

Time to talk about next year’s high draft pick. 🤮

  46. AmauryGuzman Says:

This team’s best win was against the cowboys and that was week 1 and they didn’t look that impressive in that game. This team has made no improvements whatsoever. That’s on this putrid coaching staff. Disgusted that no changes have been made to this coaching staff.

  47. AmauryGuzman Says:

It they get embarrassed at home to the bengals how on earth is someone not canned? It tells you a lot about this franchise if someone doesn’t get canned.

  48. SOEbuc Says:

Devin White is amazing one week in an article, bashing the next week like 49s are a serious SB contender and we have multiple major injuries on defense where you got McCollum and Delaney starting. Try to stick with one.

  49. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Can you really blame Devin White or anybody else for trying to motivate the team? Because, the coaches sure aren’t.

Sure, White talks…….but D Smith doesn’t talk and he hurts us…..

  50. Tony Says:

It’s time for the fans to start running this team because obviously nobody else really knows what they’re doing. Shows how bad Leftwich & Bowles are when they can’t even do that much with the talent they have with the roster on the team & a bunch of the team is hurt, too! They don’t even use Bernard either when they should.

  51. Tony Says:

TODD BOWLES: “It’s time to decide what we want to be as a team guys. Do we wanna be winners or do we wanna be losers?”

TEAM: “We wanna be losers coach.”🙄

Yeah Bowles I really doubt the team is saying that.🙄

  52. Darin Says:

Yeah terrible game plans and adjustments and no talking will have ya winning! Great plan

  53. BOAT Says:

Todd Bowles’ current head coaching record:

    6 seasons, 3 teams

    32 wins
    48 losses
    0 playoff appearances

  54. LVMYBUCS Says:

    F-ing idiot head coach

  55. kyle Says:

id let white walk.. why pay this kid.. not worth it..

  56. BucU Says:

Bow the whole thing up after losing the division. And they will.

  57. bucsfaninOregon Says:

I haven’t posted here for some time. The 49 game was just horrible, even with the Bucs historical failures.

    1. First play. Bonehead Neal had a clear shot at Purdy AND HE LEADS WITH HIS HEAD!!! Who in the hell is coaching these guys? Clearly a failure.

    2. The 49rs mortgaged more of its future to grab one of the best players in the league. Does anybody think we need OL to protect Brady? DUH! And, what has our much praised GM done about this- squat! The 49rs have improved while we sink into the total mess we have.

    3. Second half we know there would be few passes. Did we stop them- -NO. Great defense. One of our two “steller” LB’s gets juked out be a non-running QB for a TD.

    4. We have totally squandered the last year we have with the best QB the Bucs have ever had and the best we will see in the next 30 years. You young guys will get to mark my words.

  58. Vlad The Impaler Says:

This team reeks of piss-poor coaching at every level and in every way.
Another cheap, lazy money-saving move by the Vinik Wannabe glazers

  59. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    Raheem
    Schiano
    Lovie
    Koetter
    and now Bowles

    LOL…what a cast of nasties
    Glazers please sell

  60. Vlad The Impaler Says:

None of them ever HC’ed again in the NFL..but they were good enough for the podunk Bucs

  61. Sbucs Says:

It all starts with Jason, major free agent mistakes, lack of speed, lack of back ups on the offensive line, lack of leadership. Then terrible, coaching of disinterested players, it’s time to clean house.

  62. Infomeplease Says:

A sad, very very disappointing season to end TB12’s stay here!! A change in some the coaches today is called for!!

  63. captivajim Says:

I would not be too sure we can beat the Cardinals . Despite losing to the Pats ; those players showed hustle, energy , spirit on both sides of the ball with a back-up QB playing ..
Bowles lost this team a few games back when he essentially said; he didn’t want to score to often or quickly so that the defense dosen’t get gassed -as they did at the end of last yrs Rams playoff game ..

  64. Lakeland Steve Says:

The pregame pep talk on the field has been and still is garbage. If anyone thinks that all of a sudden the light comes on in a players head because some jackass is screaming “this is our house and we have to protect it”, and then miraculously a starting D lineman goes out there and starts crushing people. When the game is over said D lineman is questioned. What made you play so well today? It was that pregame speech, you know we have to protect our house. It was just so prophetic that I just decided it’s time to live up to my potential. It’s all BS and the coach should tell them to knock it off.

  65. Tony Says:

This is why they need to stop trading their draft picks away during years & get more draft picks. So you can build the team some more with depth & everything. Especially if you’re not gonna do much in FA & during the trade deadline. The fans seem to care more about the team then all of them do.

  66. Tony Says:

They probably would rather listen to Antonio right now if he was running the offense over both of them.🤣

  67. Tony Says:

PRETTY SOON I’M SURE WE’RE GONNA CAPTAIN FEAR THEIR NEXT COACH!

  68. Your Mom Says:

Ohhhhh they hadn’t decided to be a playoff team yet, that’s why they stunk.

  69. Infomeplease Says:

I forgot to mention that somebody of authority should tell Bowles that the time for practice is those several days before the game starts!!!!!!!! S___ for brains!!!!

  70. Crickett Baker Says:

Paratrooper, you reminded me of a Furry Freak Brothers comic. One is sitting on a haystack, smoking, and the other one comes by and says, “God helps those that help themselves”. The haystack one says, dreamily, “All things come to those that wait”.
Well, now I have dated myself so you know I watched a 0-26 season, too.

  71. ClwJB Says:

Now is when it matters? 13 games in is when it matters?

Somebody call the Eagles and let them know their 12-1 doesn’t matter

  72. Mark Walmsley Says:

I don’t see why bucs. Dident put Trask in ; the 4th quarter game was anyway why chance Brady getting hurt???

  73. BucU Says:

This team has quit on the coaching staff. That’s obvious. They tuned out because they have the identical game plan week after week even though they’re losing week after week.
And wait till we get blasted by the Bengals Sunday.
The Glazers need to blow it up after the season, which is coming sooner rather than later.
