Todd Bowles Has High Grades For Keanu Neal

December 7th, 2022

Todd Bowles

Veteran safety Keanu Neal’s fifth start of the season on Monday sure looked like his very best.

Joe already wrote about how Neal might ultimately have saved some jobs. But more important, he played well with the Bucs missing starters Mike Edwards and Pro Bowler Antoine Winfield, Jr.

“[Neal] was locked in. You know, he was locked in the entire game. He played faster,” Todd Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network. “He really played a good ballgame, maybe one error here and there. But he played a very good ballgame, he played a physical ballgame. He made us physical up front, even in stopping the run. So the play he made at the end of the ballgame (bone-crushing pass breakup on Taysom Hill) was great for him to see.”

Joe could hear the love in Bowles’ voice when it came to Neal’s impact in the run defense, which neutered Alvin Kamara and Taysom Hill, and Mark Ingram was the Slimy Saints’ top ground producer with just 27 yards.

Neal, Joe believes, has been a great addition. Joe expected him to need time to play freely in Bowles’ defense, and now he’s been making a bigger impact over the past month.

We need all the defense we can get. If we didn’t have it, we’d probably be 3-9 right now. And with the offensive weapons we have, that is just cause to fire the OC and demote Bowles back to DC. If he doesn’t like that, then bye Felicia.

  2. Allen Lofton Says:

If he stays healthy and Edwards and Winfield return – It’ll be old Bucs football

  3. Bird Says:

Not sure whose man it was on taysome hill td?

    Dean or Neal?

Either way neal has earned more reps after starting out the year pretty rough.
Good problem to have with so many dbs out.
Hope everyone plays vs niners cause we will need it. Could be a 12 to 9 game.

And camarda will need to boom balls like in seattle game and not like last saints game.

Wouldnt be surprised if wirfs played. Did you see brady jump into his arms like a 7 year old on xmas morning. Pretty cool stuff

  4. Jack Clark Says:

Todd Bowels and Byron Leftwich can’t win with you people. If the offense does well then you people give all the credit to the players, but if the offense does not do well then you people give all the blame to the coaches.

Neal had a whale of a game. So did David. Nassib looked good too. Even Nelson looked good in there.

  6. NEfan Says:

Neal & Winfield a hitting tandem

  7. D-Rok Says:

Very good addition. Let’s hope he can stay healthy – we are going to need him!

Outstanding play on Hill. I love hard-hitting, especially when it’s great technique and no flag.

  8. Alanbucsfan Says:

You mean Neal played like Whitehead used to for Bucs.

  9. SlyPirate Says:

Getting an A from someone with an F seems a little odd

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Neal, Ryan, Mason…..very good FA pickups….

Hicks & Gage…..not so much……but Gage has been hurt from the beginning….
When he plays, he plays pretty well.

  11. Captain Oblivious Says:

And now I’d like to hear how Keanu Neal grades Todd Bowles’ coaching performance.

  12. Browsing from DC Says:

3rd and 17 and the Saints nearly pulled it off if not for that hit by Neal. A split second too late and the comeback is over. Great job by Neal but how does Hill get that open and Dalton have that much time in the pocket?

Great, thrilling win over a slimy team and I’m not trying to be a downer at all but after Bowles is done basking in the victory and giving Neal his due props, he needs to address that near-disater on that play when they hit the film room.

  13. Smashsquatch Says:

Game saving play for sure. That and Mark Ingram’s Darden impression. What a gift that was.

  14. James Says:

    our defense is unbelievable

  15. NEfan Says:

James not sure if I would go that far. White let Ingram go on a simple flare pass. Everyone on the planet knows if not blitzing that’s the lb’s man to cover. Saints WR’s were open ALL night and once again the D made a half arse QB look like a probowler.

PUT A SPY IN MACREFFREY, SHUT HIM DOWN HE IS THIER STRENGTH,. PRESSURE THE QB. SAN FRAN WEAKNESS IS PASS DEFENSE, LETS THROW THE DAMN BALL!! LFGO!! LETS MAKE A STATMENT WITH THIS GAME!! LETS GO TB12 THEY DIDNT WANT YOU SHOW THEM WHATS UP!!
