Todd Bowles: All Turnovers Matter

December 19th, 2022

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

Man, the anti-Tom Brady crowd has come out of the woodwork.

Folks are firing on Joe on Twitter because Joe has called for the benching or the outright release of Bucs coach Bryon Leftwich. Joe isn’t sure if this is the orange and blue crowd who demand Kyle Trask start or Blaine Gabbert’s extended family.

Of course Joe is not calling for Brady to be benched. So what if Brady went full-blown Jameis yesterday with four turnovers in four straight possessions. He actually outdid Jameis, but that’s what a goat should do, right?

Every quarterback has a bad game. Or in Brady’s case a bad quarter.

Now some think since it is Tom friggin’ Brady who made so many turnovers in the choke-loss to the Bengals yesterday that the turnovers mean more.

Speaking in his day-after presser, Bucs coach Todd Bowles said it doesn’t matter who makes turnovers. They all are bad.

“Turnovers hurt any team,” Bowles said. “It’s hurting us big time, whether it’s the quarterback, whether it’s a fumble by the running backs, whether it’s special teams or whether it’s defense not getting them.

“Turnovers are big for us not winning right now because they’re crucial, and keeping a short field. I think the short field yesterday was probably the whole second half, and it’s hard to play a team like that, with that kind of talent, and play on half the field.”

Joe will say about Brady as Joe had often said about Jameis: After a turnover, is it then somehow illegal to play defense?

On the insane fake punt that Giovani Bernard blew, the Bucs held the Bengals to three points. Yeah, a field goal is a field goal but it’s better than a touchdown.

Yeah, Brady had a Jameis day. His miscues very likely cost the Bucs a win. But after yesterday’s loss, how far ahead is Brady on the scale of providing the franchise with memorable positive moments versus mistakes?

Brady is still way ahead of the game.

Does this means that J. Camarda didn’t get the gameball?

Who wrote this article? It does not feel like the typical Joe style.

  9. CChead Says:

Todd Blowes is a terrible head coach. Brady had a great 1st half and sucked in the second half. Out coached and outplayed again.

Close to the dumbest thing ever typed.

Five consecutive turnovers on the Bucs side of the field. GTF out of here with this “the defense should still get stops” bull crap.

Playing like trash is justifiable because they didn’t always play like trash, and we should be grateful and remember the good old days while we’re currently being kicked in the balls. Got it.

You can’t keep sending the defense out to defend after one play resting on the sidelines. Plus they are defending almost in their red zone after that short rest. Tiring and demoralzing. Perhaps champs wont get demoralized after 1 , but 4 turnoves, f@hhhkkkkk that.

  12. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Not sticking up for Todd but he is right!! What we saw yesterday was Bucs beating Bucs!
WE gave that game away, with turnovers.

  13. sasquatch Says:

Best thing for this team is to lose the last 3 and miss the playoffs.

  14. BucsFan81 Says:

Honestly some of this is the coaching staff. Some of it is the actual players. My theory is after Brady decided to take a vacation during training camp a lot of these players gave up on him. They are all expected to be there in 100 plus degree Florida heat. Yet the leader of the team is off on vacation trying to fix his marital issues. My guess that didn’t sit to well with any of the players.

ROFL on to the Stupor Bowl.

  16. DBS Says:

Didn’t seem to bother the Bengals offense to come right back on the field . So you are telling me their players don’t get tried. No they just go back out and get the job done.

  18. #99 the Big fella Says:

Bowles can say what he wants.when Bruce was running the show you didn’t see all the fumbles , stupid penalties, stagnant offense. This team is a shell of its self.

  19. Craig Says:

I am not dyed orange and blue, but I do think Trask should be activated. Brady is not at his best, will not be back, and has been a detriment to the team at times.

The start of the third quarter was a time where Brady should have been benched, because he was in a death spiral.

Everyone needs to see what Trask can do because we need to know if he is our future. We need to know before the draft, so we don’t turn RJS back into the den of depression.

  20. EEK Says:

none of it actually matters this year as the season is wasted

we have incredible talent but the team is not capable of playing a complete 4 quarters at a high level

any win will be a fluke of good fortune

    such a sad season

up next… another 3rd string qb that will have a career day

  21. D-Rok Says:

Turnovers definitely hinder Leftwich’s Socratic philosophy that points win games.

At least there’s optimism that we had a good first half. I mean, what EXACTLY happened at halftime? A completely different team came out to start Q3 – just mind-boggling how different the halves were.

I mean, WHO was calling plays in first half? It wasn’t the same person calling plays in 2nd half. SMH.

    On to Arizona.

    Bowles has to go.

The man that ate W’s and spit out L’s, was indeed the only Bucs ATM. J.a.m.I.s.s!
Give Tommy 7 rings a break here. I ain’t counting him out. Then again I wasn’t born last nite😎

  24. Tackleberry Says:

You know what else matters???? The jaxsonville Jaguars have the same record as the bucs (who have most of their super bowl players still on the team). Think about that.

  25. Scooter Says:

@BucsFan81 : Also include the day before the Steeler game being in New York City at Patriot owner’s wedding.

  26. LastDance Says:

Beetches just be crying because they never got the 20 years of good fortune… Wah baby wah!!! You got 2 amazing years before BA abandoned everyone to this SH!TSHOW of coaching faildom!

Cry all you want you cant take all the years of winning away from the GOAT or his fans… You’ve all waited 22.5 years to be right and you’re still wrong. Gotta suck to be you. Keep being losers… it suits you

Oh and BTW… you’ll all be hater-crying salty tears when he’s winning playoff games for another WELL COACHED TEAM next year… and complaining that your 22 year old mobile QB cant get the job done… Lets rebuild again again again again… the Tampa way right Haters…. HAHA

  27. David Says:

No one is anti-Brady, but JOE’s defense of Brady is getting ridiculous. No one is happier that he came here, helped turn the franchise around, brought some players, and won a Super Bowl. But…..
He has played horrible this year. He misses 4-5 throws a game for no reason and now the turnovers are happening. Missing training camp, divorce talk, public divorce, Miami player/ownership talk, being sued for the NTF nonsense, taking off to weddings… Mr. focus has not been focused and all in this year, and it is glaringly obvious.

From the coaches down to the long snapper, everyone on the team is part of the problem and needs to be held accountable, and Brady should not be given a pass

  28. Goatfarmer Says:

    All idiot coaches matter.

  29. Randytampa Says:

Come on Tom was running for his life, Tom had some issues but let Tom call the plays for now its the best untill we get a coaching change, Tom wants to play with Sean Payton so there is the answer Tom.is till a great QB as he showed in the first half it’s bad leadership, Most everyone wants to play with the GOAT.

i wish there was a way we could squeeze trevor lawrence away from the jags…

i would like to see him on “the new america’s team”
    (if brady leaves)

can someone please do a con job on shahid khan

  31. NEfan Says:

5 turnovers, ALL led to points 4 lead to TD’s. People crying about the D being tired missed the first half because most of it the D wasn’t on the field. Tom decided to have turnovers for dinner Sunday, I get it, never saw that coming becuase in 23 years I’ve never seen that and he needs to take it on the chin that was inexcusable. This team showed us they could do it the first half. The bigger problem is how this team came out the 2nd half and completely stalled and why was the play calling different???

  32. Jerry Redmond Says:

Boles sucks as a head coach! Pictures of him on the side lines remind me of a deer caught in the headlights of a car! Always the same pose, “WHAT Should I do now?
