No Jamel Dean For Sunday; Donovan Smith & Tristan Wirfs Are Questionable

December 21st, 2022

Tristan Wirfs

Don’t expect to see starting cornerback Jamel Dean and his bad toe on the field in Arizona on Christmas night.

That was the message from head coach Todd Bowles today.

Ironman left tackle Donovan Smith didn’t practice today because he was getting treatment on his foot, per Bowles, which seems like a new injury for Smith who already is dealing with messed up hands and a lingering elbow problem.

Tristin Wirfs was limited in practice as he works back from his high ankle sprain. Maybe, just maybe, the Bucs get him back to block J.J. Watt on Sunday. That would bring Joe a lot of comfort after Watt’s three-sack game against Denver.

  1. Winny Testaverde Says:

No Colt McCoy…meaning Trace McSwirlie may have a career game.

  2. NEfan Says:

The secondary is made of glass.

  3. SB~LV Says:

The whole season has been “ questionable “
Now they are going to prolong the agony and play the last game on Sunday

  4. Kentucky Buc Says:

That IBS seems to being going around.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We need a healthy Antoine Winfield……put him in prematurely last week…..Edwards & SMB back will help.
Don’t need Julio if Gage is healthy……Gage can play.

  6. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Trainer to Dean – “C’mon, get on the massage table”

Dean “I stay 10 yards away from anything”

  7. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

The Bucs are in big trouble with arizona.
The cards plan to start a never used third string qb.
The Bucs will be quaking in their collective boots, as they should be.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Still will not be an easy game for our Bucs. Arizona has those 2 words Tampa fears…BACKUP QB. We got this thing about launching Backup QB careers at our expense.

  9. ModHairKen Says:

Good Lord, could this get any worse? An untested opposing QB, champing at the bit to make his mark. Missing DBs. Missing OL, although maybe losing Donovan Smith isn’t so bad.

But, this SC Bucs Fan made my day:

Trainer to Dean – “C’mon, get on the massage table”

Dean “I stay 10 yards away from anything”

  10. SOEbuc Says:

We had a very good secondary for once early, most noticeable was the Logan Ryan and Weinfield rotation.

  11. Bucfan1988 Says:

SC BUCS FAN, I wouldn’t use the “staying 10 yards away” phrase with Dean. Dean can play.

That’s best used to describe a previous Bucs corner though…
    One Vernon Hargreaves, lol!!

  12. Bill in Seminole Says:

Uh-oh. The Cardinals’ QB is set to make his first NFL start. How many 2nd/3rd string or rookie QB’s have beaten us over the years? Too many.

  13. Buc4evr Says:

So what difference does it make at this point? The whole team is a disaster and injury prone. Explain to me again why we didn’t bring Suh and JPP back?

  14. gbobucsfan Says:

how many catches will Hopkins have? Career day for that man.

  15. Jmarkbuc Says:

DS76 sure holds a lot for a guy with bad hands.

  16. Anonymous Says:

Add McSorley to the Buc Hall of Fame of QBs that embarrassed them

  17. unbelievable Says:

Uh, Dean is arguably our best cornerback this year (though he did play terribly against the Niners)

  18. Crickett Baker Says:

I love some of these humorous comments. I am still chuckling over IBS, altho I forgot who said it first.

  19. DungyDance Says:

Crickett- it was Kentucky. He just spelled it out previously. Still laughing.

  20. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

My opponent in fantasy football has Hopkins. I feel like resigning even tho it’s a fantasy playoff game. My buc branded lawn chairs will be playing ten ++yards off him in zone and man to man, which is hard to do; and stand no chance of keepin him under 200 yards especially with a no name qb starter. Damit man.

  21. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

‘DS 76 sure holds a lot for having bad hands.’ Just think how bad it could be if he had ‘good’ hands!

  22. Trey Says:

Ironman Donovan Smith? You meant to say turnstile!

  23. Zwak Says:

    Please rest everyone!

  24. Marc Coppola Says:

If we lose this week we are done.

And fire everyone while you are at it.

    No more excuses.

  25. Gofortheface30 Says:

So embarassing that we are subjecting America to the corpse of Brady and our 17 points per game vs Trace McSorely. What an awful terrible game. We will win in uninspiring fashion, something like 14-9 and then we will engage in brain dead conversation that “we have a chance” in the playoffs

  26. Pewter Power Says:

Bad teams like Bucs can’t beat horrible teams without all hands on deck. No faith they will beat the cardinals and if anyone from the Bucs organization is reading the comments, it’s not my fault I have no faith in my one and only team in the nfl. The all in talk was a lie

  27. Jeremy Says:

It doesn’t matter. tampa won’t make the playoffs. The sooner we can get rid of brady and leftywtch, the better. Time to move on.
