Breaking the slimy Saints curse?

No, Tom Brady was not talking about former Bucs return man Karl “The Truth” Williams.

After the thrilling Bucs win tonight on the back of quarterback Tom Brady, the greatest living quarterback was asked about finally beating the slimy Saints at home. Since Brady joined the Bucs in 2020, this was the first time.

“Yeah, it’s the truth, I’m glad we won,” Brady said. “I was going to say it was an insult, but it’s really not an insult. It’s the absolute truth.

“I wish we could have scored more points against them but they make it really hard.”

So if the Bucs can play good defense against a veteran (though a lousy veteran) like Andy Dalton, why can’t the Bucs play well against a green-as-grass rookie quarterback who was the very last player taken in last spring’s draft, a third-stringer?

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy just may be red meat Sunday for the Bucs’ defensive wolves. A San Francisco treat.

Watch Todd Bowles dial back the defense to make it easy on the rookie. Maybe he’ll surprise us and show him every blitz known to man.

  2. Bird Says:

    Brady is the problem

I mean it sucks we have fans that watch games with their eyes closed

We got screens where 3 defenders are sitting and waiting for brady to throw the ball

Our routes . Same thing. Maybe watch a game in person

    But yah. Brady sucks
Remember when jameis would win these games tbyums3guys

    BINGO!

That’s what he did in Pittsburgh. No elaborate blitzes to confuse the kid, just sat back in a super soft zone. However, I will say, Pickett, I thought, looked great in that game, he had some remarkable ball placement to guys who were covered, I think he has a nice future ahead of him.

But against ‘Brock the Co-k’ (his trending name on Twitter), I’m guessing the Bucs sit back in a soft zone, and the 49ers just run the ball on every down for 5 yards, and control the clock, and win the game 3-0, with the Bucs only having 4 positions all game, and Bryon wastes 10 of the Bucs 12 offense plays on runs up the middle for 0.6 yards.

What did I write yesterday? Brady can and will win games if forced to pull it out of his r ear with 2 min. remaining, and he runs the hurry up. And if he has cooperation. THAT is the truth. We’re now going to hear for a whole week about how “he’s still got it”, “Super Bowl bound” and such noise.

Everyone slow down and please no knee jerk back and forth. This team is still exactly what it is. It shouldn’t need the old man to pull miracles every game like this. The coaching, the (non-Brady) play calling, the inconsistency, the weirdness remain, and we cannot lose sight of the bigger issues. OneBuc must be held accountable.

NO had this game until they squandered it in the final minutes. The NO offense also had big opps to put the game away, but dropped balls, etc. It wasn’t an impressive showing, no matter how thrilling the final seconds were.

I’m sure that the narrative is going to be “it’s fine to be mediocre as long as we somehow keep it close enough for Tom to save us again and again”. This works if the opponent is mediocre and/or plays mediocre. It is, of course, a weird season….

The problems with the upcoming game. The Niners are a scary team that doesn’t require a great QB to win. And Brock the C ock is an unknown quantity, an X-factor.

I question Bowles’ skills in terms of identifying tendencies for new opponents with little film and little time for analysis. So my guess is that he is going to blitz the hell out of him. Kyle Shanahan will be ready for it.

Take the win and stop 🛑 whining!

  8. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

All hail to Brady. The master of the saints disaster!
    Just win baby!

  9. Hodad Says:

Dalton was anything but lousy last night Joe. He played a solid game, and had some bad drops by his receivers. He put the ball right on Hill with his last pass that would’ve sealed the game. Allen cost them by not running on third, and one instead throwing incomplete stopping the clock. Then Allen pulled a Bowles by punting on 4th, and one giving us the ball, and game. Sound familiar? Can’t blame lousy Dalton for this one.

  10. SufferingSince76 Says:

The team won in spite of Bowles and Leftwich. They deserve nothing but our continued disdain for neutering this team.

  11. NEfan Says:

Andy Dalton has been to multiple play off games at Cincy. There are bad match ups in the NFL, KC always struggles with Cincy & Chargers, the Bucs kryptonite is the Saints. There D knows the secret. The D only gave up 16 points but their running game is just as stanky as the Bucs. What is scary going into next week was the lack of pass rush and how open Saints wide receivers were, that was putrid. If Brady had that separation he would throw for 500yds and 4 tds. A great win because we were all expecting the D to fold and everyone including the coaches quit and they didn’t except effing Smith.

  12. Lord Cornelius Says:

Shanahan always seems to get decent play out of rando QBs and RBs. I’m not taking them lightly they are a scary team lol

  13. SB~LV Says:

Bucs certainly need a red meat game!
Caution your enthusiasm, yes the win was absolutely nice but there was a ton of slop for 55 minutes.

  14. Brent Clark Says:

History is not on the Bucs side with backup QB’s…. Lets hope this will not be the case again in SF….

  15. NEfan Says:

The truth is he won that game TWICE last night, he had to battle off the 13th defender D. Smith.

  16. ClwJB Says:

We got an early Xmas miracle thanks to the GOAT

Amazing how when TB12 calls plays in the no huddle we score, when Leftwich calls plays all game long, we do not

The Aints played worse than us, 3 really costly drops that change the game

We win in spite of the coaching not because of it

Wonder which team shows up next week?

  17. Lovie is that you? Says:

If you think we are going west and beating the 9ers and their bloodthirsty defense then you should put down the Jim Jones koolaid.

  18. Jack Sparrow Says:

Brady will be showcasing his skills against the Niners next week. This will be his audition to show them that he will be available for them next season. Goodluck BUCS!!

  19. D-Rok Says:

I thought Dalton played well. The Bucs won because at critical times, they did NOT have drops, meaning the Bucs executed better.

Of course, with a better game-plan, play-calling, and better execution for 4 quarters, we could be dominating teams.

The 4th quarter proved we have talent enough to win.

As for San Fran, all the talking heads on TV are praising his play and saying how good Purdy is. With a week to devise a genius defensive plan, we’ll see how our D performs against 9ers. Don’t forget they have McCaffrey now.

Most worried about 9ers D front against our O-line – that front is much better than the Saints, but the Saints are good too! I was impressed by how our o-line didn’t give in and were competitive.

Can the Bucs o-line do it 2 weeks in a row?

    GO BUCS!!!

  20. firethecannons Says:

The Bucs will make Brock Purdy look like he should of been the first overall pik of the draft. No doubt Bowles defense will give them an extraordinary amount of coverage. It will be a huge challenge for defense. We have jump start offense with no huddle offense over and over and hope we catch them off guard. shanahan is smart and we need to try something new.

  21. Tom in MadCity Says:

Let’s not get too excited about going against a rookie in San Fran. The Bucs front did not get consistent pressure on Andy Dalton last night. He had plenty of time in the pocket. Until that gets fixed, it doesn’t matter if it’s a rookie or an average veteran on the other side. Pressure it what’s needed.

  22. unbelievable Says:

Oh Joe, have you learned nothing in all these years covering the Bucs?

How many times have we made backups and rookies look like all-pros?

I know you’re getting older, but your memories aren’t that bad. Articles like these just feel like you putting a jinx on us. Kind of like when you wrote about how Pittsburg and Carolins were going to be walks in the park for this team…

And BTW- what about the 49ers defense? You think Donovan Smith can stop any of their lineman? I don’t.
