Ian Beckles Wonders About Todd Bowles’ Future

December 24th, 2022
Ian Beckles

Taking bite out of Bucs.

Joe mentioned that with the Bucs seemingly circling the drain, some passionate supporters of head coach Todd Bowles are turning on him.

First, it was former Eagles general manager Joe Banner. Then it was former coffee-fetcher for Bill Walsh, Al Davis and Bill Belicheat, Michael Lombardi, the former Browns GM.

Now it seems Bowles may have lost former Bucs guard Ian Beckles. In a season that started with so many high hopes and is ending with fans praying the Bucs can win a title for a horrible division, Beckles admitted on his podcast “In the Trenches” that he’s having serious second thoughts about the Bucs ability to be successful with Bowles running the pirate ship.

“I have defended Todd Bowles at times this year,” Beckles began. “I don’t think I want Todd Bowles as my head coach. He is, but I don’t think I would pick him right now.

“Is it all Todd Bowles? I don’t think so. But great ones — players, football executives, coaches — they figure it out. When I hear Todd Bowles say it’s on the players, nnnooo Todd. It’s on you. It’s on you. The players are playing but it’s on you.

“If the players poop themselves the next three games, they will be here next year, trust me. Yyyooouuu won’t. So it’s on you my friend.”

That may be the first time Joe has seen anyone local in the fourth estate with a connection to the Bucs openly speak about Bowles being one-and-done.

Team Glazer has never launched a coach after one season. Never happened. But Team Glazer is also big on assessing which way the arrow is pointed.

In 2011, Raheem Morris, after guiding the Bucs to a 4-2 record with a win over Drew Brees and the slimy Saints, watched his team collapse and they lost the final 10 games of the season. He was launched just hours after the season finale.

Former Bucs commander Greg Schiano lost the first eight games of the 2013 regular season. Joe had later learned that before the end of October of that year, Team Glazer already had begun negotiations with lousy Lovie Smith to take over the club.

Take away Tom Brady’s magic in beating two awful teams, the sorry Rams and the slimy Saints, and the Bucs would be on a 1-8 streak since (barely) beating the Dixie Chicks in October.

If the unthinkable happens and the Bucs lose to the Cardinals, Stinking Panthers and Dixie Chicks to finish the season 6-11, or miss the playoffs, well, Joe has no idea what may happen. All bets would be off.

Glazers cannot be oblivious to the Bowles Leftwich circle jerk shet show.
Bowles may survive another season but Lefty is gone.

  2. LVMYBUCS Says:

    Hope there is no future

  3. SB~LV Says:

    Bhah humbug!
    Todd’s future is his past!
He has failed miserably with a talented roster.
He is scripted and monotoned , simply not a HC like a loaded semi stuck in a low gear plowing through a NFL season.
I wish him well on a human level, he simply is not leadership material

  4. Hodad Says:

Todd Bowles future is bright. He’s going to get paid the next 4 years whether they fire him , or not. The Glazers were stupid enough to give him a five year deal instead of three. So even if he gets fired, he gets paid. After that, he’s still a good DC, and would get a job again, or maybe coach college. Todd Bowles future is bright. The Bucs on the other hand, not so bright.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Make no mistake about it…..Bowles is responsible for the Bucs’ lack of performance.
Sure, you can blame Leftwich…..maybe even Brady somewhat……

But Bowles is the HC & it’s on him.

The two most egregious errors were not letting Brady try to win the Cleveland game and the ill-advised fake punt vs the Bengles.

There were also several others….the 55 yard FG attempt and numerous cowardly decisions to punt in opponent’s territory.

If Bowles can’t get this team to the playoffs….what team? Next year’s?

The Glazers certainly are asking that question.

  6. Bucobill999 Says:

Glazers aint fools….well we will see real soon if they are

  7. Jeff Says:

His future is in college. Perhaps a D coordinator or assistant if he wants to stay in the NFL. He’s a FLOP of a HC.

  8. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Bowles will get paid no matter what, and if we win the division, he will most likely be back, so get used to him.

  9. Razor Ramone Says:

I hope the Glazers have begun secret negotiations with Sean Payton.

  10. Show Me the TDs Says:

Beckles support of Bowels at ANY point of this season, after the Dallas game, is a clear indication that Beckle’s opion is worthless.

  11. FrontFour Says:

The talent on this roster is so far below the hype of the media it’s not even funny. If you listen to the WHOLE pod cast from Beckles, he also calls out Brady and the fact this team is old and slow. And Beckles compares Brady to Peyton Manning in the final year of his career. So yeah, the buck always stops with the head coach, but this is Licht and BA’s team and coaching staff. Licht allocated cap space to old washed up players – Julio Jones, Akeem Hicks, Russel Gage, Rudolf and Permian – and let young talented players we developed walk – Cappa, Whitehead. Then there was there’s the big contract for Brady’s friend Fournette, whose a decent RB but we’re stuck with him for two more years when he’s clearly not any better than Rashad White. And how much of keeping Darden on the team was Licht and BA trying to justify trading up and wasting draft capital on a guy that doesn’t belong in the NFL. The only thing that has consistently worked for us is the defense – which is the only thing Bowles has had real control in shaping. It’s not as dominant as the last couple years but has been good enough to win games with any kind of offense. But yeah, It’s all Bowles fault.

  12. Anonymous Says:

    Can him either way

  13. SB~LV Says:

If my posts don’t pass community guidelines please warn me with bold face type so I can dance around the guidelines. My posts have been under review lately and for the life of my I don’t know why???

  14. alton d green Says:

I literally just sit here shaking my head in disbelief. After what has happened to our Country in just two. (2) years. The following is for the Glazers. If you look at this site. OK glazer get a notepad and a pen. Tom Brady joins the sewer dwelling Bucs in mid season when BA was HC. 1st year? SUPERBOWL 2nd year? Made it to the NFC Championship game WHEN BA WAS HC and we lose because Einstine Todd doesn’t double cover the League MVP receiver LOSE with Einstine Todd as DC. Now Einstine Todd is HC and well you know the rest. Now why in God’s name would a team hire someone that was 29-45 with their previous employer?? Let me help answer that with an analogy. Pretend you are ANY TEAM IN THE NFL and you get a resume from a coach with that record? Just pretend that you know nothing about him. you,ve never laid eyes on him. BINGO!!!!!!!! the unemployment office is down the street. But no, the Glazers give him a 5 year contract. To simplify things, the Glazers interview him AND his record and say “let’s hire this coach, but even better, let’s screw the Bucs fans and give him a 5 year deal” Oh and by the way, Biden got 80 million votes and the border isn’t open. Merry…………I’m afraid to say it!!!!

  15. Marine Buc Says:

If the Bucs lose the rest of their games this season then all bets are off. We could see the Bucs clear house…

If the Bucs make the playoffs and can win at least 2 of the final 3 – Bowles will be spared and allow to coach for one more season before he gets fired.

  16. Cobraboy Says:

    Bowles will drive fans away.

I know my “love” of this team will be significantly reduced if these coaches return.

I miss BA and his Kangol swagger mojo. Badly. And his Riskit Biskits.

  17. Cobraboy Says:

Will anyone be surprised if the Cards beat the Bucs? I sure as hell won’t. And if it helps get rid of these coaches, I won’t be badly disappointed with a loss.

  18. Brandon Jeff Says:

Careful Alton. Don’t poke the weasel.

  19. Yucs2Bucsr Says:

This team is Bad Bad, but if they Glazers pull off a miracle and land Sean Payton I will come back to the Den of Depression. If ANYONE from this coaching staff is still in this organization next year then we are ranking for Caleb Williams. I won’t be paying for it, but Todd and this entire staff need to go. Look what they did to this team in just 14 games 😳 and like I said AZs offense is going to have a great day against the Charmins

  20. SufferingSince76 Says:

Hodad is correct. And why would you give a coach with a losing record a 5 year contract?

  21. NYbucsfan Says:

    The fans want him gone!!!

  22. SB~LV Says:

Remember Tom was planning on playing with the Dolphins this year, if you don’t think that is a component of this FUNK you are naive.

  23. SB~LV Says:

The Hooters wing girl is the only reason I come to JBF this miserable season

  24. Ed Says:

    Bowles is toast.

Bucs need younger head coach that won’t tolerate stupidity on the field.

After listening to Devin White’s interviews he doesn’t have the smarts to be the middle linebacker who has to understand defense. He may be one of the best chances the Bucs have to get a high draft pick in a trade. With the right organization they would change his role into a pass rushing specialist which is all he can do now. I hope he has value and they could get a top 50 pick for him.

The Bucs need to draft players with more football sense. Too many players that don’t take the game seriously. Winfield and Godwin are the only Bucs that give 110% every week.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

Tood Bowles needs to run the table these last 3 games period. And even then, many fans will not redeem him. But it will be enough to get him one more season. If he messes around and losses 2 of these next 3? He might as well clean out his office at Buc One Place

  26. Oxycondoms Says:

Bowles could be a head coach in the future if a team like the texans want the number 1 draft pick.
At what point does licht get the blame for the horrible coaches hes hired. He got lucky arians fell into his lap

  27. Fitz Says:

The only question that matters is whether Bowles is a good enough coach to get a team to the Super Bowl? And everyone knows the answer.

  28. Stu Says:

Just spitballin’, who would the Glazers have to hire(realistically) in order to keep Brady…Payton(not realistic)? Arians(health questions)? Leftwich(experience and Brady relationship questions)?
    Love to hear y’all’s thoughts…

  29. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I like listening to Ian for the most part. It’s a stretch to say he’s a member of the 4th Estate. Former player with a podcast is probably closer to the mark.

  30. Roc Says:

    Question ???

Can the Bucs hire a competent Coach?

Bucs for some reason experiment with Coaches
    Example Raheem

Hire a COACH stop taken from Tampa and putting subpar teams and or coaches on the sideline

    Time for FOOTBALL
    CANCEL the social warriors crap

  31. SB~LV Says:

I agree with Ed about trading DW if possible

  32. Aceofaerospace Says:

Unless the Bucs win the superbowl this year, I’d fire the entire staff. I’d fire leftwich, either way.

  33. BucsNoles Says:

Bowles is who we thought he was
    Its time to move on
I give BL a pass cuz i think he’s just following orders
But Toad, came into a perfect sitch and effed it up by trying to put his stamp on the team.
A team that was made for no risk it no biscuit – NOT power run game
Maybe there is enough HS to go around to get LiteBulbs boots dirty on this as well.
SOMEBODY should have seen what was happening and said EFF NO!!

  34. Jonny Says:

Ben Johnson, the OC of Lions would be an amazing candidate to get the most out of our offense. There are many competent coordinators that could be a great head candidate and a possible upgrade over Bowles who has only the track record of losing as a head coach.

  35. Tom Says:

Todd Bowles is an absolute joke! He has run a Super Bowl roster into the ground. I can’t stand his lifeless press conferences and his team has the same lifeless play. Teams take on the head coach attitude and personality. Arians Super Bowl and playoffs.

  36. CleanHouse Says:

    I predicted 6-11 in March

  37. Craig Says:

The Glazers will give Bowles cleaner another year, maybe 2. They will do that because he will convince them that he needs it to create the team of his vision.

That means they both have skewed vision and can’t see that if Bowles cleaner was even half of a real coach that he could have won a lot more with this team.

You don’t build a team, you coach a team and that isn’t happening.

The big question is how long it will take to straighten the team out after Bowles is gone.

With the recent history of the Bucs HC candidates, I might be dead before the Bucs fields another good team, with or without Trask.

  38. The Anomaly Says:

    52 nutjobs

  39. Natron Says:

Lousy Lovie Smith! Andy Reid says the Texans need to give Lovie another season in Houston with 1 win so far, go mind your own business Whale Chief!

  40. captivajim Says:

Despite the fact that he is THE problem-Bowles is NOT going anywhere.. No matter what fans write..

  41. steele Says:

The fact that Bowles and Leftwich are still around is enough of an indictment. The entire BA coaching tree (what little there is of one) leaves much to be desired. BA himself is a question mark, whose one SB was the result of Brady, some talent on the roster at the time, a few hungry players at the time, and MANY fortunate circumstances.

Bowles is not an unknown quantity. He doesn’t deserve another season or more, to “prove” what he can do with “hiring his own guys” or such nonsense. Because it comes down to HIM. He is not a great leader, motivator, psychologist, locker room manager or tactician.

A complete reset with a fresh approach is needed. Need a cold, objective decision about Brady. The veterans are jaded and need to go. The JAGs are just JAGs, and even the promising ones need to be coached up.

  42. Tony Says:

I’d rather have Beckles running it right now over Bowels & Leftwich.

  43. Tony Says:

Maybe if the Glazers stop putting $$$$ into the stadium & stuff like that like putting up a scoreboard to where you could watch the game on from space & put some $$$$ into the team instead they’d be more consistent. If it’s really all about the $$$$ the Glazers then you’d think you’d want them to make the playoffs & be competitive every year because it brings more $$$$ to the area & to the businesses. Especially if they have a home playoff game.

  44. Joe Says:

The Hooters wing girl is the only reason I come to JBF this miserable season

    🙂

  45. firethecannons Says:

If Bowles is next years coach I am out I will block myself from Joes page I refuse to watch Bucs play games with kyle Trask and Todd Bowles and Todd Bowles pick for OC I hate this sh!t–go ahead and lose the rest of the season whatever it takes to get rid of this awful coach who cannot admit when he is wrong
