“Embarrassed”

December 19th, 2022

Making loss make sense.

It seems like some Bucs players are as frustrated as fans are about Tampa Bay’s continued circling of the drain.

Take veteran tight end Cam Brate. When he was asked if the way the Bucs played in the first half will be a springboard to finish the season strong, he struggled for the right answer.

Basically, he didn’t know.

“All of us feel terrible right now, embarrassed – essentially five turnovers to start the second half,” Brate said. “We did start the game well and that is something we haven’t done this year, but it’s four quarters.

“[We] definitely did not play well enough in the second half to win. Hopefully we can find the things we did well, build off those and try to eliminate as many mistakes we can.”

Joe cannot figure out how a team with so many players who won 29 games from 2020-2021 cannot figure out how to play a full game of good ball.

It is starting to sound like when Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians handed the coaching baton to Todd Bowles, not only did the move screw up the X’s and O’s of one of the best teams in the NFL, it tore out players hearts and screwed with their souls.

There is something much deeper at work here than just X’s and O’s. The way the Bucs are mental of late, it’s almost like they are scared to play football.

Bowles coaches are scared at times. Has that rubbed off and messed with his team’s psyche?

If you keep on blamming JUST coaching staff, you will keep on missing the point..

The blame is everywhere, Ownership, Management coaching AND QB!!!!!

    Evidence is everywhere and overwhelming…..

  2. Ballwin Bucs Fan Says:

Seems like the Jensen injury really shook everyone mentally too. I know those screams are still haunting me.

  3. DungyDance Says:

As of September 5, the Bucs were the number 1 oldest team in the league, with an average age of 27 years, 5 months, and 13 days. Nipping at their heels in this category are the Saints, Cardinals, and Raiders. Notice a pattern? Anyhow, the older you get the more conservative (i.e. scared) you play.

That’s the only way to put it. This goes beyond game plan. I have no confidence this coaching staff can fix this. If you can’t find a way to consistently score more than 21 points per game with Brady, Evans, Godwin, Gage, Jones, Fournette, Brate, and Otton then what makes anyone think they can do it with a different QB starting.

  5. NEfan Says:

First off Brate shouldn’t be on the field. Otton has showed time and time he is the real deal, stop suppressing him. It’s ALL X’s and O’s. Other coaches are making the adjustments these clowns do nothing. Why else does this team ALWAYS falter in the second 1/2??? Cincy added more Dline pressure through stunts and shut Evan’s down. The four turnovers are unexcuseable but does the D have to let them score TD’s? A couple of stops would have been nice. Even if you lose at least say it was close and we turned it over (5) times. Yes the fake punt is pretty much a turnover. There is NO fight in this team.

  6. Casual Observer Says:

Played the best half of the year and the worst half in that game. Lose the costly penalties and turnovers. Doable.

    Yup. Ex-wife Brazilian VooDoo.

  8. Kgh4life Says:

Otton should be the starter, Brate can’t get separation like he once did.

  9. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I love sports politics and all these responses….

No player will ever say what they truly felt because they don’t wanna screw themselves out of a potentially higher paid contract when their current multi-million dollar contract is up.

  10. Jack Says:

Brate should be embarred going out i public with that 70s style porn mustache he has. Dude! Get rid of that thing.

  11. 97 bucBaby Says:

Another player who should have been canned 2 yrs ago

  12. Arn platz Says:

After watching the fake punt over and over it looks like Bernard didn’t know it was going to be a fake punt. He looked surprised when the ball came to him. This is the perfect example of the miscommunication between players and coaches. Especially when you do this deep in your own territory. You better have a high probability play that deep on your own side of the field. Clearly this was not that play. I have no confidence in this coaching staff and every week strengthens my belief that they are inept

  13. Bucsfan13 Says:

Brate is old and slow, but I blame Brady for targeting him on critical third down situations. He’s slow and can’t get YAC. Did you see Cade truck a guy like Gronk yesterday?

  14. Your Mom Says:

Time to throw all those TB12 diet products in the garbage can.

  15. Conte Piscatelli Says:

This team is WEAK in every way imaginable!

  16. HC Grover Says:

LOL they are ‘Baffled’ about what is wrong.

  17. Show Me the TDs Says:

Agree 100% Joe. As an aside, Brate should be let go. His athletic abilities have diminished due to wear and tear and age. He caught a pass last night and try as he might, was short of the 1st down marker. Otton would have easily bowled over the defender and made it.

  18. Cobraboy Says:

    Hilarious!

6-8 and circling the drain, and some underachiever playing his way to retirement is finally embarrassed?

Thank you, Brate, for some good years, but your time is done.

  19. Cobraboy Says:

This team is “baffled” about the losses piling up like the MSM is “baffled” about SADS.

  20. LakelandSteve Says:

Joe, when we ran a running play the first play of the second half I thought oh no. We reverted back to the old offense and quit doing what worked in the first half. It was like Leftwhich said naw were good, let’s go back to the old stuff.

  21. SlyPirate Says:

    BA, Suh, & JPP

BA, JPP, and Suh were brought in to change the culture of the team. The Bucs lost a lot of leadership last year and it shows.

  22. Bucamania Says:

Brate is so done. Otton is faster, stronger, and better.

  23. Brett Says:

Brady is also responsible for some of the bad personnel decisions. Julio Jones? Really?

  24. ChattBucsFan Says:

Why is Brate still being plugged in the game for critical down and distance? His skills have fallen off a cliff and runs some of the weakest routes of any TE in the league.

  25. DB Says:

Agree ChattBucs – I do blame the coaches for putting Brate on the field. How ridiculous throwing to him on a tight end screen. And on the attempt to Brate that resulted in a Brady pick, it might not have happened if Brate would have been quick enough to come back to the ball and at least prevent the interception. He is just too damn slow at this point in his carreer, looks like he is pulling an ice wagon behind him, and not sure handed either.

  26. Frank K Wagoner Says:

Well it was great while it lasted. Time for a rebuild. We built the team to win now and it did. Rams face a similar predicament. Young players are faster and more athletic. Get a forward-thinking coaching staff and start new. It’ll take years but what else can we do.

  27. Chris f Says:

The NFC south is so bad whoever wins it,gonna get eliminated the 1st round, you gotta face a real threat a better team 🤷

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

3 games left guys. Will we run the table and finish at 9-7? Don’t pencil in anything with this team with our helter skelter play. Arizona is no pushover. They got..wait fot it..A BACKUP QB. Backups are our Achilles heel. Colt McCoy has won games with them. He has been in the league for like 13 yrs or so. I am not confident. Are You?

  29. SlyPirate Says:

    THE LICHT HOUSE IS DIMMING

I’m curious if Licht is standing too close. Licht LOVES BA and BA LOVES his coaches. I really wonder if Licht is too close to this group to make the necessary changes.

  30. Tom G Says:

The team is mentally toast. Their faces on the sidelines for the 2nd half said it all. The head coach sets the tone and he is always mister stone face. I think the team needs a head coach with more passion for next year.

  31. BOAT Says:

Bowles is a career loser as a head coach. 32 wins and 49 losses. He’s a loser head coach and the players all know it. The players don’t believe that they can win with Bowles as the head coach. Bowles has completely torn out the confidence of the players, especially on the offense, with how he coaches with the view that offense doesn’t win games.

It’s painfully obvious at this point and it’s clear that people still defending Bowles are just pure outright trolls.

  32. David G Says:

Can someone tell me why Rasheed White is not getting the ball more?

  33. firethecannons Says:

We are better off when Brate is incapacitated on the sideline

  34. Purplepirate Says:

“The blame is everywhere, Ownership, Management coaching AND QB!!!!!”

But apparently not the special teams guy who’s only job on the day was to get the ball on a fake punt attempt that for some reason he didn’t know he was in there to get the ball on a fake punt attempt.

  35. Buccos Says:

I feel like if you are going to run a fake punt, you might want to practice it a couple of times first. I think Bowles surprised everyone with that call. It was so out of character for him. Bad call

  36. Anthony Says:

I’m going to repeat what I Said 10 games ago they coach and play not to lose they don’t do it to win. Two different things

  37. Uncle Urk Says:

Can someone please tell me why Rudolph is still on the team? I mean, he doesn’t play, he is not on special teams, and he isn’t any good. I mean, it’s another case of Darden. Cut bait and full the spot with another D lineman, pass rusher, O lineman… something. Another case of not adjusting. I saw another team, I can think of who, but a player got hurt and this guy, J. Houston came in and has 5 sacks in 4 games. Shaq Barrett was a backup player. There are gems out there. Rudolph is not one.
