Cole Beasley Returns … With The Bills

December 13th, 2022

So nine weeks ago veteran receiver Cole Beasley quit the Buccaneers and retired to, allegedly, spend more time with his family.

Well, perhaps Beasley got sick of his wife and kids in a hurry or he sprinted from the Bucs because of a perceived dysfunction? Because today Beasley signed with the Bills, the team he played for last year and the team that wanted to re-sign him last offseason.

Beasley is a bit of a strange dude, so none of this is too wacky. But when’s the last time a receiver asked out of a Tom Brady team and then begged for work elsewhere?

The Bucs’ strange season got a tiny bit weirder today.

Beasley was signed by the Bucs off the street in late September. He had four catches for 17 yards with Tampa Bay, and the team had a 2-2 record when he bolted.

Begged for work somewhere else is a bit of a strong take. Bucs are clearly not a playoff team so I’m hindsight maybe he saw that and looks pretty smart today

  2. ElioT Says:

    Two Words:

    Byron Leftwich

He knew even Tom Brady couldn’t cover up that level of incompetence and bolted.

    When elsewhere had Josh Allen.

Played in two games. 5 targets, 4 receptions for a total of 17 yds. He will do much better than that in one game with Buffalo! I bet they have a coach who will scheme him open for more than a 2 yd target! Congrats on going back to a good team Bease!

so ,both he and Suh are on legit SB contenders ,. one will get a nice ring ..beasley saw the dysfunction…

  6. Darin Says:

He said they have too many big money wrs that must be on the field so he wasn’t gona get enough reps. Also he spent a few weeks with lefty that he’ll never get back. He must be pissed. I’m surprised more Bucs offensive players haven’t retired this season.

  7. sasquatch Says:

Quite likely it was the Leftwich experience.

  8. D-Rome Says:

The players know even when the coaches and the shot callers in the organization don’t want to admit it. This is not a Super Bowl contending team. Beasley knew it and wasn’t going to put his body on the line one more time for a team that had no chance.

  9. BucsBro Says:

    Gotta agree with ElioT.

Beasley saw what was going on with Byron Ball and got out of dodge fast.

  10. EEK Says:

couldn’t get open here, won’t get open there
    practice squad player now

It’s so sad to see that Michael Silver hit job on Brady. Silver has always hated Brady, as Brady and the Patriots eclipsed Silver’s fanboy team the Niners, Montana and Young.

But Silver was fed the information, and I think we all know who did it. Not Byron or Todd, either.

It’s a shame. Bruce has done a lot of good things. But trying to keep in place “your guys” when they can’t get it done (especially Byron) while trying to scapegoat the GOAT just won’t work.

If Bruce can’t accept that, hopefully the Glazers will make the needed decision and make Bruce’s thoughts moot.

Didn’t want to be a Buc…….wish him well with his future endeavors.

What a night and day coaching difference for him.

  15. NEfan Says:

Bucs could have had Doug Peterson. BA probably didn’t want the Bucs to win another SB knowing his boys would screw it up. Double cudos affirmative hores and all the credit for SB. AB was right BA is evil.

  16. NEfan Says:

    hires, OOPS

  17. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Prolly a good decision.

  18. NEfan Says:

All you Brady haters that complain about his completion % versus the league studds, well here it is. He and Mahomes are tied at 65.8% he is better than Allen, Cousins, Hebert, Dak, Roger’s, Wilson, Carr, Tua, Jackson and many others, and he THROWS MORE PASSES to wr’s that can’t get open. S@#k on that!!!

  19. Redeemer Says:

Who the hell would you rather play for? An incompetent OC and a broken offense, or a team that’ll probably be in the AFC title game. Just goes to show, the family excuse is bunk. Almost always. These guys see plenty of their families in the off season.

  20. Al Says:

Did he take his jersey off in the middle of a game and run off the field????

  21. Doc Says:

He did not want to play with Brady, just like, Evans, playoff Lenny Do not want to play with him anymore.

  22. Mikadeemas Says:

Wow! Some of the dumbest comments I’ve ever seen on here! And that’s saying a lot! Sheesh, GO BUCS!!

  23. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I think it was the awesome Chicken Wings in Buffalo that lured him out of retirement ?
Plus, in Buffalo, their Football Players are all local heroes. He can be a big fish in a small pond up in Buffalo, on a team much more likely to win a championship.

Obviously, something is really wrong with the Bucs, and I think Beasley saw it, and got the heck out of Dodge.

    Who cares.

  25. HC Grover Says:

He came, he saw, he beat feet out of town.

  26. Ben Jammin Says:

He’s from Texas. Football smart. He’s a Gambler. Knows when to hold up. He just folded.

  27. ModHairKen Says:

Maybe he saw something when he was here and said FTS.

  28. Fishhawkbuc Says:

A couple of weeks of Leftwhich would make me pack my bags too. Anothe point Joe: do you think Arians gifted Bowles the HC gig because he knew it would make him look so much better?

  29. ChiBuc Says:

Oh wait, now we’re willing to acknowledge that BA is a self indulgent front runner. What’s that you have to say BA? That’s right you can only “work” with a massive staff, “whisper” to elite qbs, and address the media when all is well. The architect of diminishing returns just collected anoth million for naught

  30. Oddball Says:

Ha ha ha ha!!! Of course he did Mod. Smartest guy in the room.
