Byron Leftwich: Don’t Worry About Tom Brady’s Fluke

December 23rd, 2022

Fluke or not?

Last Sunday night Joe saw something previously unimaginable.

Tom Brady outdid his predecessor, Mr. Entertainment, Jameis Winston.

Brady had a turnover on four straight possessions; two picks and two fumbles.

Jameis never did that.

And Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich said it’s a good bet it won’t happen again. Leftwich, in his weekly press conference yesterday, referred to Brady’s rash of turnovers as a “fluke.”

“I just think that’s a fluke thing,” Leftwich said when asked if Brady’s turnovers might be a sign of something larger. “It’s hard to do that, right? That was just one of those fluke things that happens in the game of football.

“You play this game long enough, you’ll be around plays and games like that. We’ve been on the opposite end of them and won games – it just came and got us last week.

Yeah, fumbles for Brady, it likely is a big-time fluke. The last time Brady lost a fumble was back in the first game of October when the Bucs lost to the Chiefs.

But picks, this is something to watch. Brady was on the cusp of history for consecutive passes without a pick this year. He threw an interception in the season-opener in Dallas and didn’t toss another until playing the Seahawks in Munich — eight games without an interception.

However, defenses may have picked up on something with Brady. Only once in the past five games has Brady not had an interception, the overtime loss to Cleveland.

In each of the past two games, Brady has thrown two interceptions.

If Brady throws a pick (or more?) against a lame Arizona defense Sunday night, it’s fair to wonder if there is something wrong with Brady or that he is tipping pitches.

Tipping pitches or just taking more chances on his tightly covered Receivers.

  2. Guzzie Says:

Pretty easy when the defense knows your plays

  3. SB~LV Says:

Another function in the disfunctional season is….
That TB was planning on playing for the Miami Dolphins this year

  4. Winny Testaverde Says:

Oh that’s rich, Lefty. JBFans retort: “Don’t worry about Lefty when BA isn’t there to save him”…Arizona with Josh Rosen @ QB…1-15…Steve Wilks may get his revenge on Lefty yet and of course this absolute debacle of a season. I’m sure Brady doesn’t want/need Lefty of all people to come to his “rescue”.

Some of those interceptions were flukes. I don’t think Brady is tipping his pitches. He did have two interceptions where the LB dropped and he missed the read. Because the receivers aren’t getting good separation, there is little margin for error with the throws.

  6. Beej Says:

I think he’s dumping off to RB’s less now, trying to push the ball downfield more. Would help if we had a running game

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m beginning to believe that our first half success against the Bengals was the fluke.

  8. Kentucky Buc Says:

The whole Offense is Tipped. What the hell do you mean tipping pitches. They watch the film. Half the time the DBs are running the routes for them.

  9. D-Rok Says:

I would call the botched handoff to Lenny a “fluke.” The other turnovers had reasons why they happened.

  10. NEfan Says:

LB picked the first one off the T
turf, not sure why that play was designed for Brate he didn’t fight fir the ball. A case where Brady throws to a spot and the receiver didn’t get there. Second int, c’mon he got hit throwing it, it was intended for Evan’s and he was wide open. Strip sack it is what it is, and handoff 100% Brady it squirted out of his hand, fake punt NO FLUKE horrible call.
Burrows 1 int, 1 that SMB dropped, 1 JTS knocked down versus caught, strip sack by LVD that rolled back to Burrows. The difference Ciny got the turnover Bucs did not. 100% FLUKE/ Giselle voo doo doll. They should have blown Cincy out of the building.

  11. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs can ill afford to look past Arizona. Yes, they have a losing record. But They play hard and fast. They got hella running game too. Bucs should be terrified they are facing a 3rd string backup QB. You know how that goes for us. We make backups look like all world. They had better play harder than hell out there in Glendale, AZ

  12. NEfan Says:

Losing records: GB, Rams, Saints, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Carolina, Atlanta, ALL losing records. Take nothing for granted.

  13. Craig Says:

I am not worried about Brady’s “fluke”, I am worried about Brady as a whole.

Something is fundamentally wrong here and “flukes” will fly out of the maelstrom.

  14. Jack Clark Says:

    I believe in Tom Brady

  15. Goatfarmer Says:

Tom be’d don’t in the second half against the Bengals. He be do now. Him had a thing, it be what it be. We gonna be do you know, block who we block and run be do as we do.

  16. Eric b Says:

The o-line needs to protect him!! Thise 2 ints were about 3 guys in his face with no time to throw! Look at brock purdy, the man has all day to throw!!! No mostakes no turnovers lets get creative on offense hust like the 1st half !!! We can beat anyone!!!! LFGO!!!!

  17. alton d green Says:

goatfarmer says: is that a Rap song?

  18. Calmamuty Says:

OMG people. When Brady did something like throw a pick, the cameras saw Arians cussing Brady out. Can you imagine what Arians would have done if Brady had 4 turnovers in 1 quarter?

Enough already, Brench Bardy and Fire Leftwich. Give the team a chance to make the playoffs.

  19. Calmamuty Says:

Is it me or am I the only one that can’t understand half of what leftwich says?
