Bucs Held Down Ja’Marr Chase And Still Lost

December 18th, 2022

Carlton Davis.

Damn, a Bucs key to victory today was holding stud Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase to a human game, and they got the job done.

Still, the Bengals offense punished the Bucs in the second half.

Chase finished with 7 catches for 60 yards and 1 touchdown, his quietest game since early October. Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis was up for the challenge.

Davis wasn’t perfect and the referees busted him a couple of times, but Davis made his share of plays and little was easy for Chase.

Bengals QB Joe Burrow finished 27-of-39 (69 percent) for just 200 yards. But he took advantage of short fields, courtesy of the turnover-happy Tampa Bay offense and special teams. That led to Burrow throwing four touchdown passes.

On the opening drive, Davis found his first interception since opening day of the 2021 season, hauling in a ball tipped by safety Keanu Neal.

If the Bucs had a consistent offense, Davis would be a hero right now. Instead, he’s just a guy who played one of his better games as the Bucs approach the NFC playoffs.

The bucs defense played great against a high powered offense. The Bengals offense a little over 250 total yards. Too bad the bucs offense, special teams stunk the field..

  2. Darin Says:

The coaching staff stunk up the field Lakeland. That’s it

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This loss wasn’t on our D…. Offense & ST gave up the short field…..

I know we had a melt down in the second half but the first half we took it to a very good team. I loved seeing Evans back in the game mentally. I think this is a step in the right direction. I think even the fake punt was a display of a much more aggressive offense and after what we’ve had so far this season, I applaud it. I think if Bernard had been ready we get the first down and the we’re talking about what a gutsy call it was. I hope I’m right. Go Bucs!!!

  5. Lakeland Says:

    Darin,

It’s obvious the coaching staff don’t have faith in this offense..

  6. Craig Says:

What a spectacular half time adjustment for the Bucs. Turned the first great effort of the season into SOS.

If the rest of the season didn’t mean a coaching change for the Bucs, the second should. We need someone who doesn’t turn the lights off at halftime.

I’ll keep a light on for the Bucs, Brady deserves better than this.

  7. SOEbuc Says:

Plzzzzzzzzzzzz stop totally calling out the coaching staff when Brady has been so off every week. “I think I’ll stop throwing to Mike or Otton in the second half. We got this.”

  8. Paratrooper Buc Says:

Bucs gave a clinic on how to give a game away when you have more 160+ more total yards, 40 more rushing and 120 more passing yards than your opponent. Brady was the one who made the most mistakes but it seemed like two different teams or two different coaches for each half. Depressing loss as we should have won. We eh should have won so many more games. Defense has done amazing. But offense and special teams. SMH.

  9. SOEbuc Says:

Any update on Weinfield? This secondary can be very good with all the pieces involved, but they have not been all year.

  10. Lakeland Says:

If Brady don’t turn the ball over. The bucs win this game easily.

  11. tbbucs3 Says:

This loss is NOT on the defense…

Same story every week, defense holds up on their end while the offense fails this team yet again.

The 1st Brady INT in his own endzone turned this game around…went from bad to ugly from there

  12. Bucobill999 Says:

Coaching staff is a joke and bradys done times finally caught up to him

  13. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Man, how do you guys see a half full glass? I see a 45 year old fossil at QB and a team that resembles its head coach. A whole lot of nothing. We’re going nowhere. I see zero chance we run the table against 3 awful teams. Hell, we may go 0-3.

  14. Redeemer Says:

Well, for the first time this season, you Brady haters can dance a jig. I hope you’re all happy. Don’t worry though, you won’t have the goat to kick around much longer.

  15. Redeemer Says:

Keep telling me about fake bucs fans, when you dopes are happy to see him fail, just to be right for once.

  16. Lakeland Says:

    Redeemer,

I kicked Jameis “ATM” Winston around for 5 years on here. I kicked around Josh McClown, Mike “garbage” Glennon.

    It is what it is

  17. steele Says:

This game turned around, it looked like they wanted to give it to them.

Fake punt was stupid, but that wasn’t the killer. The turnovers were. Is it Brady’s fault that he was sacked and pressured? Everyone knows the blueprint. OL clearly beat in the second half. Snakebit playcalling was another: why did they suddenly go to sleep? Bowles? Leftwich? As for the handoff turnover, that was LENNY, or at least most of it.

  18. Redeemer Says:

Lake, this game is mostly on Brady. I won’t argue. Not talking about you in particular, just the sentiment from quite a few here. They’d rather be right than win IMO.

  19. orlbucfan Says:

At least my Bucs didn’t quit today. I was really worried they would. Boot Brady off the field for the last 2 games and let’s see the results.

  20. tbbucs3 Says:

Redeemer, if you think this is Bradys first bad game of the year where have you been?? Hes been mediocre all season

  21. NEfan Says:

Anyone reading the thread didn’t see any hater posts definitely no praising when things were going good, except ONE, hats off to Oneilbuc, he at least admitted the coaches and Brady were doing a good job. 4 turnovers is unexceptable but the rest if his play was pretty good. They crush the next 3 opponents.

  22. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The thing that can really be put on Bowles is he had a chance to get one extra play at end of 1st quarter but chose not to and once again called prevent zone coverage when Burrows had 1:30 in the 1st half. Defense gives up an easy 50 yards GAVE them 3 points. He is too soft and coddles his players trying not to upset them. He’s a chocolate covered Twinkie filling.
