Are Bucs Fans Accepting Poor Play?

December 25th, 2022

Thinks fans are growing soft.

A former Bucs player not only tore apart his former team for lousy play, but he cannot believe how Bucs fans seem to be good with the rotten play.

Former Bucs guard and popular local sports personality Ian Beckles jumped on his podcast “In the Trenches” and was very surprised Bucs fans are not up in arms.

Beckles cannot believe there isn’t more outcry from fans about what someone has done to this Bucs offense. The fact that the Bucs are still favored to win the putrid NFC South should not matter, Beckles said.

“Could you imagine the turmoil if the Bucs were still 6-8 and the Saints were three games ahead?” Beckles asked. “Could you imagine the turmoil?

“For me, the turmoil should be the same. Just because we should be in the playoffs doesn’t mean this sh!t isn’t godawful to watch.”

Beckles gave an example of how Bucs fans are accepting failure. He recounted a story of a Bucs jersey-wearing fan coming into his business saying the team looked better against the Bengals. Beckles shot back, “Better than what?”

Tom Brady has played poorly, Beckles believes, but if you surround him with good talent, he’s crafty enough to win ballgames.

“I promise you that if you put Tom Brady on the San Francisco 49ers, they win almost all of their games,” Beckles said. “Tom Brady can’t succeed in this offense.

“Not with a makeshift offensive line. Not without tight ends. Not with aging receivers without speed. Not without any ingenuity in calling plays. He can’t succeed doing that.”

Brady is the modern-day version of Alex Smith, Beckles went on to say.

Beckles, who played his formative years in the three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust Big Ten, lamented how the Bucs don’t go old school NFL, ground Chuck Knox ball and pound teams “into oblivion.”

And he believes the Bucs do not excel at anything.

“If you are not really good at something, what are you building around?” Beckles asked as if Bucs coach Todd Bowles sat beside him. “‘What do the Bucs do well defensively right now?’ I’ll wait. Offensively what do we do the best? I don’t even know where to start.

“We are just not that talented anymore offensively. Everything we do offensively is hard. Scoring points is hard for the Buccaneers.

“Last year the Bucs would play terribly on offense and they would score 34. This year they can ball out on offense and score 17.”

Beckles also had a Festuvus-like grievance saying he doesn’t think the team as a whole gives great effort.

“Akiem Hicks, he picked it up a little bit,” Beckles said.

Beckles had other thoughts:

On his personal human piñata Joe Tryon-Shoyinka:

“He’s a first-round draft pick and we need him to be good. The toughest thing to do in the NFL is to stay healthy. “

Beckles also seemed to take a veiled but deserved shot at failing Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.

“This coaching staff needs to start looking at themselves in the mirror. When you are up 17-3 at half and you do squa-dooch in the second half, I mean absolutely nothing, you have to check yourself.”

If the Bucs lose to the Cardinals tonight, Beckles foresees full-blown chaos at One Buc Palace.

Mr Beckles – please call the Glazers. Have Sapp sitting beside you. Tell them the truth. Maybe Bowelswich listens to the money.

  2. firethecannons Says:

I am not good with it at all I think Brady is falling off big time and is done! I think Todd Bowles is in the top 2 worst coaches in the league. I think Byron Leftwich has been revealed to be a fraud and refuses to accept responsibility for this mess. I think next year will suck and we will pick #1 in the draft after that. I think the only reason I am a fan at this point is Joe’s web site–they do not have a Joechargersfan.com site so there you go, it is hard to get onto a new team without the inside scoop from Joe. Also JTS and Logan Hall are bargain picks that are not panning out at all. I think Bowles should of remained the defensive coach, his credentials are AWFUL. I do not care if we make playoffs because we will lose first round and other teams will be glad to play Bucs as we lose often and more often. We suck! Devin White is inconsistent, D.Smith is penalty magnet. On and on done next year we will have a losing season and it will be so from here on out.

  3. firethecannons Says:

Bowles is best off getting fired whether he was a good defensive coach or not–he isn’t now team has dropped off on every side of the ball.

  4. Tony Says:

Maybe they need Beckles as the coach or GM.

  5. Onetrickpony Says:

The coaching staff don’t need to look at their self ,it’s the Glazers who need to look at the coaching staff
And nothing will change until we get competent coaches in here to replace this dog and pony show.
Merry Christmas to all and be safe

  6. Tony Says:

Exactly. How long do you expect to be rebuilding a team? The franchise has basically been getting itself together ever since they came into the league. Really? The franchise has been rebuilding since 1976? We need to bring somebody like Brooks or Barber or Simeon or somebody like that in who’s more familiar with the franchise & who has experience with D or as a GM like SF did with Lynch to help turn the team around & then the same on offense. Somebody on offense that’s familiar with the franchise. Somebody like Dunn or Alstott but I think Alstott is part of a coaching staff of a high school team. Even Jacksonville didn’t want Leftwich & that’s pretty bad when Jacksonville didn’t even want you on the coaching staff.

  7. Tony Says:

It’s not Fire Them Cannons. It should be FIRE THEM COACHES!

  9. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Yeah true Beckles you wanted to bring back jameis Winston after 2019 and now you accuse fans of accepting poor QB play.

    It makes you think.

  10. Buczilla Says:

A playoff win is the only thing that will keep me from going out of my mind apesh!t if we bring back any of these sorry coaches next year.

  11. Crickett Baker Says:

HUMPH! If he thinks we fans are accepting the poor play then he doesn’t read this site. Sheesh.

  12. steele Says:

I applaud almost all of what Beckles says above about the team. As for accepting it? We don’t. We’ve been on it for months.

  13. Leopold Stotch Says:

Lol! I agree Cricket! Darn near every single article on this here site has comments about how the play has dropped off and we are outraged by it.

  14. SufferingSince76 Says:

Based on some of the comments on this site, there are people who accept a failing Bucs team. You know who they are.

  15. SB~LV Says:

    Call a plumber

  16. Jeff Says:

Arizona 20 Bucs 10. Mark the tape.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Does Beckles have his head completely stuck up hi big a$$?

Does he not read JBF posts? See the 95% lack of confidence poll on Bowles?

We are almost all completely disgusted with this team’s play……and that is a product of miserable coaching.

  18. Alanbucsfan Says:

    2nd half vs Bengals:
    1st 5 possessions:
    Botched fake punt
    interception
    fumble
    fumble
    interception
I don’t know who is to blame, but that’s why Bucs lost.

  19. Cobraboy Says:

I don’t accept poor play and coaching.

    I mock it.

  20. Rand Says:

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I think it all comes crashing down tonight. Key players are sitting out because either they’re hurt or their fragile ego’s are. Besides Brady there seems to be no real vocal leadership without Suh, Barrett, Jensen, Pierre-Paul, and Whitehead. Others I’m sure are trying but haven’t been here long. Players are overly coddled anymore. The days of the tough guys has been replaced with I feel a twinge coach. Imagine if Parcells, Hallas, or Lombardi were still coaching a lot of these guys would be playing elsewhere. For them to win tonight they’ve got to show they want to win despite our lack of poor play calling. Brady has to play smart but also not clam up and throw constant check downs either. We can’t play scared and timid. Go for the jugular and run up the score.

  21. Cobraboy Says:

If a loss would accellerate what needs to be done with this team—i.e., blow it up, coaches and players, and start over—the Angel on my right shoulder says “Win out Bucs, to the SB!” while the Devil on my left shoulder says “Go Cards!”

This crap coaching and play cannot continue as is.

I generally don’t agree with Beckles, but on this topic I agree 100%.

  22. NEfan Says:

Beckles, another explayer no one outside of Tampa has ever.heard of but he does have valid points. Alan, that’s how the Bengals won yesterday. Back to back games they should have lost. Win the turnover game you win. That’s the excuse for last game there are 7 more to inferior teams less KC. Those are the ones that are concerning. I don’t see how any QB can achieve in this offense. Beckles is right, season ticket holders should.ve wearing bags on their heads to send a message to ownership.

  23. DungyDance Says:

“Beckles cannot believe there isn’t more outcry from fans about what someone has done to this Bucs offense.”

To have an outcry, there has to be coordination… a call from a central figure. Remember the outcry that occurred at one home game during the Schiano years? What prompted that?

It appears that posts in these columns that involve calls for a certain form of paid public display are getting squelched. That’s fine – your house, your rules…no hard feelings. But we’ll need leadership (sound familiar?) in order to accomplish something great as a team.

  24. Winny Testaverde Says:

Heckles…noted cat lover…is completely on point here. Do you think Brady wishes he was a 49er right about now? Purdy good has played beyond expectations but will be the reason they don’t win it all…mark my words.

Arizona might be the most vulnerable team in the league currently…yet I consider this game a “pick ‘em”. Watching Carolina yesterday, it sure seems they want it more than The Bucs…by far. We are witnessing what a team falling off a cliff looks like with a stumble bum/never was head coach and crummy offensive ( very offensive ) coordinator.

  25. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

As usual, I agree with Cobraboy. I have mixed feelings about us winning the division, because it will mean that Bowles, Licht and company will be back for another year.
I saw an interesting stat the other day.
The Bucs are number 8 in the NFL for Fan Attendance, so it is not like the Tampa Bay area does not support our Team.

  26. PewterStiffArm Says:

Beckles is absolutely right about Buc fans. They can never out cheer the apposing fans because some of them are so stupid they sell their tickets and run. When it is on TV they would rather stay home and make a few bucks than scream at the top of their lungs about how suck a$$ this team is. The tradition of loosing has soften these fans. Everything is about that stupid pirate ship in the end zone and the drunk fest called Gasparilla parade. This philosophy would never make in half the NFL cities. Most fans would be booing from the get go, but not Buc fans. Buc fans are complacent with mediocrity so they focus on other stuff and not screaming over the top of the visiting teams fans. When you watch a Buccaneers home game on TV that’s all you hear, opposing fans out cheering ours. This will never change, another season of crappy football with a one and out prediction, if and a big if, the playoffs come to Tampa.

  27. Allbuccedup Says:

Looks like next week against Carolina could be for the division title. We better win tonight if not we could be eliminated next weekend.

  28. HC Grover Says:

Whats a Fan to do? Let me be clear…Fire Bowzo and all his Clowns Now!

  29. Shark Coast Tactical Says:

I don’t support it and I’m pissed. Im super pissed. I have season tickets and I don’t go on principle. Left them empty almost all season. I can’t even give the tickets away half the time. Sounds nutty but I’m kinda nutty. I dgaf I’m not going and watching that sh@t show. It’s like a Greek tragedy., Best QB ever and we suck. How is that possible? Ive lived in the area for 47 years and I love my team. Been reading JBF since the beginning. I will not support incompetence. No more tickets, no more gear until something changes. How TF they didn’t get a better OL? Decided on them old ass broken players? Thought they would win with them? Who tf decided Hicks and not Suh? Suh should be teaching strength, conditioning, finance and purpose. Oh yeah let’s not hire the guy that doesn’t miss games and leads the young players? Great idea coach! So many dumb decisions and we wasted a year with Brady. I was against Bowels since the Kupp thing. Not to mention the Jets things. Oh Jets wasn’t his fault? TF YOU MEAN? He was the HC and collected the check. It’s his fault then and now. You let the guy who lost the NFC championship head coach the team? Are you fu&king kidding me? Leftwich? Even my wife has said Leftwich was vanilla since the beginning. How can people with so much money be so dumb? Ian Beckles is right. He’s right more than he’s wrong. Philly Fans wouldn’t be torching the city if this was going on. The Philly media would crucify the Glazers. But we just take it because our fan base is soft like the team. I Still love the Buccaneers But I won’t give them another dime.

  30. The Anomaly Says:

    Licht has been a disaster

    Brady is DONE…RIP dude

    Staff is pee wee

  31. Winny Testaverde Says:

Shark Coast Tactical ….not a “handle” I see often or even recognize but you Sir, a late entrant dark horse candidate, may have just trotted out The Post Of The Year with one week/weak to go in 2022. Very well said/done!

  32. JimmyfromNY Says:

Brady is done!! X Mas troll job!! Leads NFC in yards fewer turnovers than Mahomes, Alan , Herbert with more attempts etc. tight window throws still near tops. With Byron the moron calling plays , horrible o line , bottom of the league WR getting separation and one of the worst running game in nfl history. Most throws are contested. Yeah he’ s done!! Lol nice troll , Brady still haunts you.

  33. Cobraboy Says:

I don’t think Brady is done.

I DO think this coaching staff has been an unmitigated disaster for him and the entire roster.

  34. SB~LV Says:

    Go ahead!
Look at that losing scratch off ticket and see if it’s a winner

  35. SOEbuc Says:

Former Buc bandwagon fan. True fans are aware of Bucs dark history, but don’t give up yet, especially with Brady who can never be bet against in the playoffs.

  36. Cobraboy Says:

The Glazers would rather be PS & Woke…than win.

Of course, things could be worse.

    We could be Rams fans…

  37. Winny Testaverde Says:

Bros. Glazers…an Amish subsidiary…are far more concerned with Man U $ale than Bowels & Byron epic fail.

  38. aleim Says:

Bench brady, fire leftwhich. It won’t matter though, the bucs won’t make the playoffs. They just suck.

  39. The Anomaly Says:

@cobra – leave your woke crap at home with your hood…no one wants to hear that garbage. Joe, please get rid of these hateful goobers…enough is enough.

  40. Cobraboy Says:

@ The Anomaly: it’s the Woke & PC who don’t want to hear that “garbage.”

    One he/her/zirs “garbage” is another man’s “truff…”

The rest of us Normals have to live with it…

  41. Captain Vic Says:

Shark Coast Tactical: You covered most of what I had to say, and it was a lot!! And yes, I was a big Bowles fan (as Defensive Coordinator only) until “the Kupp thing”. Inexcusable! We had the Rams on the ropes, and had all the momentum going into OT. Left which is a total disaster, in every way! He was a mediocre QB and way less than mediocre as an OC. The definition of “plain vanilla”, never any motion, creativity, and NO adjustments ever! Not in-game or at halftime. This is “Ray Perkins 2.0”..but with way more Talent at the skill positions! Inexcusable. He’s an F-. Anybody’s wife, any school kid playing pick up games, any of us could call better plays than BL. I’m an OG Bucs fan, since 1976, Game 1, and I will always root for them til the final whistle. I still want the Bucs to win a Super Bowl this year, AND I still want the coaches fired ASAP! Every single game we’ve won this year has been based on a sheer Talent differential, and/or Brady taking over a two minute offense.. overcoming really bad “coaches”.

  42. OrlandoBucFan Says:

Our fans care, but let’s face it, this franchise has done so much losing through the years, apathy has an inexorable pull. Because winning is such a temporary condition for Bucs fans, disinterest becomes a self-defense mechanism. I have been a fan since the inception of the Bucs and a continuous season ticket holder since 1997, but despite my passion for the Bucs, this season has been one of the most challenging I’ve ever experienced. When the Bucs were bad, losing was disappointing but not shocking. This year is different. The Bucs started this season with so much promise, so each loss is extraordinarily painful. To make matters worse, they way the Bucs are losing is like pouring salt in an open wound. Our fans care, but I don’t blame fans who want to stay home rather than waste their entire day watching a train wreck. It’s better to keep a safe distance. I’m an idiot though, so I’ll make the agonizing drive from Orlando to watch the Bucs. That what hope does to a person.

  43. Oneilbuc Says:

Tom Brady needs a all star team now days . He needs a perfect team around him and that’s the truth. And ain’t no team is perfect not even the 49ers they have real good defense and they can run the ball and that’s why they’re winning with a 3rd strang quarterback . That’s why to me the quarterback position is the most overrated position in football . I hope y’all finally realize that a win loss record is not a quarterback stat . We never needed Brady to win a championship the problem with our franchise is draft picks. We don’t draft the position that the team needs. A lot of y’all blame Jamies for everything that went wrong with the team but y’all forgot about how they miss on the whole 2016 draft. None of those players made it 4 years. That’s what set our franchise back.

  44. Woodenman Says:

Jeff we 👀 you is that all you got.

  45. SB~LV Says:

If Brady plays next year it won’t be here… guaranteed!
So we don’t owe him anything for the dysfunctional mess he was part of in the offseason.
You DO understand he was going to Miami before the owner shtt the NFL secret handshake bed.
    We owe him nothing!
Our FA’s are going to run to the best team.
We have NO QB for 2023
    Are you getting the picture?

  46. mark2001 Says:

Ian has a point. As badly as this team is right now, why would the standings in the division lessen the fact team isn’t good. They are bad. And the standings have nothing to do with that. They win today, good for us. They lose and the season ends up going down the drain?…newsflash. It is already.

  47. mark2001 Says:

SB.. the mistake is us thinking that this team was going to return to 2020 form. We should have started rebuilding after last year. When Cappa went elsewhere and Marpet retired, we were in trouble. Once Jensen and Stinnie went down, and Gronk didn’t come back, it was in many ways basically over and most of us didn’t know it.

  48. Redeemer Says:

Mark, well said. The hyperbole at the start of the season was off the charts. Gage was billed as the second coming. Jones was supposedly 2019 Julio. Godwin somehow would miraculously become the only reciever to not need 16 months to return to form after major knee reconstruction. Gronks loss would be negligible. Joe actually said this corps could be the best ever. I bought in, but not to the degree many did. The signs were there as early as Dallas. We were all hoodwinked to one degree or another. You’re right, they just aren’t that good. Blind fandome not withstanding, they fooled plenty of “expert’s” too.

  49. mark2001 Says:

Redeemer. I “drank a goodly amount of the Kool-Aid too”. I did think the team could be pretty good and win the NFC south. Well, I was right about the later… but that was only because I didn’t know how low this division could go. If this team was on the upswing, looking good, and building towards the playoffs,. I might have a grain of hope. But I guess not.

  50. unbelievable Says:

So one dummy makes a comment about them look better against the Bengals (which they did for a half) and Beckles thinks all Bucs fans are accepting this slop?

Here’s some news for ya Mr. Beckles: we are not. We want Bowles fired. We wanted Leftwich fired after week 5 (personally I wanted him gone after 2019).

No one is accepting this, except maybe the casual do nothing fans.

  51. mark2001 Says:

You have a point Unbelievable. Many I know, including myself, have been screaming for a change of Lefty at OC for some time, and showing Bowles the highway at the end of the year. Probably Licht too, if he simply nodded when Bowles got the job. I mean, I’d just like to ask Ian one question. What do you expect us as fans to do about it, other than what we are doing, Ian?

  52. orlbucfan Says:

Brady is done. I sure hope quite a few players on this team let him have it last Sunday. He better deliver tonight.

  53. Gman Says:

Just not worth getting all that upset about. The team stinks and will continue to do so for several years. The Glazers will continue to make these fans look like the rubes they are.

  54. John Says:

He must not get on twitter much
