Another Resume-Builder For Byron Leftwich

December 11th, 2022

Bucs OC Byron Leftwich.

Bucs failing offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich is a very, very fortunate man. Because most coaches with his lack of results this season would already have had their access cards killed and had multiple meetings with their agents about where they will work next.

How can an offense with the Bucs’ talent be so drab, so disjointed, so unprepared, so inept, so punchless?

This is like watching the offensive version of Mike Smith. And yes, Joe is offended.

Leftwich cops an attitude with the pen and mic club weekly, refusing to answer direct questions and often he prattles his broken record of all he does is try to win games. Oh, and stats are only for fantasy football nerds who don’t know a jock strap from a down marker.

Folks are beginning to tire of this act. Joe has been tired of it for three years.

Tonight after the Bucs got worked over by the 49ers, Bucs coach Todd Bowles was asked about coaching. This was prompted when Bowles remarked how awful the team was coached up for tonight’s game (Bowles included himself in the scolding).

So Bowles was asked if a coaching change still might happen. This question was generic and didn’t cite any specific coach. Bowles basically said it’s too late in the season to make a drastic move, especially with the Bucs still in first place in the NFC South.

Usually, canning a coordinator mid-season much less with a team trying to make a playoff run is absurd. But you tell Joe: Would the Bucs’ offense be worse with Mr. Cap Pulled Over His Eyes gone? Hard to believe it would.

Why would anyone trust Leftwich to come up with a gameplan that can score 14 points in a playoff game when his offense struggles to break 10 in the regular season?

Take away Tom Brady’s heroics, and this Leftwich-led offense has failed to score more than 17 points in 8 of the past 10 games. If Davis Mills is your quarterback, that’s understandable. If you have Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, a healthy Julio Jones, Playoff Lenny, and Brady, you are not doing just a bad job, you are a butcher and fully incapable of crafting a successful gameplan.

Joe wouldn’t be so harsh on Leftwich if the stakes weren’t so high. But this is very likely the last chance the Bucs have to make a Super Bowl run with Brady.

After today’s latest mess, does anyone believe Brady will return to the Bucs next year if he has a chance to play for Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers next season?

He should’ve never been let back into the building in the first place

  2. CrackWise Says:

    NFL is Rigged.

They want Brady to win a super bowl with a losing record.

    Bet the house on it.

  3. mark2001 Says:

He is gone. That is the closest thing to a sure thing I can think of.

  4. Macajubav Says:

49ers are not signing Brady for 1-2 years. We already see his long ball is fading. 49ers already have Jimmy G and Lance. Why burn another year of Lance rookie contract to try to get a SB with Brady. Also means letting Jimmy G go.
Lynch and Shanahan aren’t going TB12 for a Super Bowl push, not with how he looks now at 45.
    Some other team maybe .

  5. mark2001 Says:

Crack… I think the officials we saw today are rank amateurs that shouldn’t be within a hundred miles of a professional football game. But fixed? I think that is a little far out.

  6. Meow Says:

If Byron Leftwich wasn’t black, he’d be fired by now.

  7. Darin Says:

    Mark
We all know that. We need it to happen two months ago tho

  8. Zzbucs Says:

    blamming ONLY BL is unfair.
How come nobody says that this kind of offense has TB12 fingerprints all over the place!
We agree this offense is horrible, and Makes it worst with all the talent around.
    BL has to go?
Most probably, but lets tell the tb ingá the way they are.
The playbook changed dramatically and is in the coaches and TB12

  9. Tye Says:

They are keeping their jobs for FAR more reason than the benefit of the doubt because they have the GOAT and top weapons….

Must have dirt of the owners OR ARIANS to be allowed to continue! UGH!

  10. RuKa_44 Says:

Joe, Joe… this is not a SB team, not even in the wildest dreams of die hard Buccs fans like me….

Unfortunately this season is over. We may still get to the playoffs due to an extremely bad NFC South (although the Falcons and Panthers are actually a threat now), but do you really see us winning 3 games to reach the SB??? With the current state of affairs, do you see us even winning 1 lousy playoff game???

  11. Jdog Says:

It’s hard to watch a team with so much talent look so helpless. Does anyone believe that this team would have the same results under Andy Reid or any of the other top 15 coaches in the league?

  12. Bird Says:

I could call better plays from my couch (with a headset) and beer in hand

Brady just got embarrassed in front of family and friends. He aint coming back with these jokers. I guess the possible good news : maybe 49ers think brock purdy is their qb of future and dont even make run at brady. 😂

Watching 49ers play…sure they have a stacked team. But look how real coaching can make the other team look like the bad news bears.

  13. HC Grover Says:

They have shattered the Bucs. Note he said they are still in first place. LOL. He knows if they pull out a division win with losing record they will not fire him. It depends on what the Panters and Chicks do.

  14. AmauryGuzman Says:

Imcompetent bozo. This offense has shown no progression since week 1.

  15. Infomeplease Says:

I have to agree with you Joe. And also fire the head coach too. Who could do worse with all this talent? I believe the team would rally around the replacement coaches!! Even with replacements from within the organization.

  16. Nprbuc Says:

You have to give him his due. It only took him 13 games to figure out that he had a guy on the practice squad that can return kicks and punts while actually showng some burst and heart unlike Darden. So there’s that.

  17. Sbucs Says:

Byron will return to the Amazon warehouse soon enough

  18. Bucamania Says:

Byron has been exposed with BA gone. The offense averaged a measly 18 ppg before putting up 7 tonight. EVERYTHING looks hard for this offense. Even their lone touchdown had to be caught twice. It’s not working and really couldn’t be any worse with someone else.

  19. neckbone Says:

    Throw Leftwich in the Bay!

  20. Uncle Urk Says:

If Byron Leftovers was white, he’d be head coach. Meow! Let’s just keep it to football. Adding the race element is so 1984. We are in 2022, let’s move on…

  21. Pewter Power Says:

BL is doing exactly what he did as interim OC for the Arizona Cardinals BA saved him but should have his ring of honor ceremony revoked for selling the Glazers on BL and TB

  22. Battleships Says:

Is it too much to wish toilet bowls get put in jail for what he’s turned this team into?

  23. Chuck Stevens Says:

As long as Bowles is head coach Leftwich will go nowhere.
I think they still have hope to make it deep into the playoffs.
They won’t make the playoffs as long as they are playing the way they are

They lost the will to play when they won the Superbowl.
    Time to clean house.

  24. ModHairKen Says:

Leftwich and Bowles are terrible coaches. I know Arians wanted them to succeed. But they are just not good. And Arians stuck us with them. So he needs to live with that.

I think the entire roster needs to be revamped. Donovan Smith should move on. So should Dean. And White. David should retire. Clean house and fire every Coach. Bring in someone new the day after the season ends.

And it won’t be playoffs. This team will lose to Cincinnati. Then Carolina. Then Atlanta.

  25. John Mason Says:

Joe…..All these talking heads say Brady to the Niners….they don’t need him….and everyone forgets Bradys kids….tom building a mansion in Key Biscane…Geilse just bought a house
around the canal….Tom is not goin out west…plus his other son Jack is on the east coast…remember that was a factor with signing with the Bucs. Tom looks done in most of these games….sure a nice comeback now and then….I have changed my mind….Brady should call it a day….to bad Trask was not in uniform…he could have gotten some mop duty in reverse.

  26. Jack Sparrow Says:

In NFL, it’s a NO-NO to question the competence of a black coach. You will be called the “R” word if you go that path. The questions ahould only be like, “you have a superb gameplan, but your QB and WR’s seem to divert from your ideas, ahould you bench your QB and WR’s ? ” …. lol !!!!

  27. Jack Sparrow Says:

In NFL, it’s a NO-NO to question the competence of a Bowles/Leftwich or any other non-white coaches. You will be called the R word if you go that path. The questions ahould only be like, “you have a superb gameplan coach, how is the weather in San Francisco ?”. LOL !!!

  28. Ed Says:

The Bucs hit bottom today. There is nothing left in the tank. Brady’s long ball is shot. Leftwich and Bowles should be replaced

  29. westernbuc Says:

It just feels like the coaches aren’t making an effort to keep Brady. It’s been fun.

  30. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Nobody is going to pick up Brady next year after how awful he’s played this year… Dude will be FORTY-SIX next year… He’s done! He can’t hit the long ball anymore and hasn’t all year… And maybe y’all should clean up all the typos I CONSTANTLY see on here! All you have to do is write about it and you can’t get that right! Lol

  31. BucU Says:

Don’t care. Win. Lose. Tie. Don’t care. Got plenty of yardwork done yesterday. Thanks Todd!

  32. Joshua porter Says:

You know Leftwich has to be kicking himself for not taking the Jacksonville job cuz he isn’t getting an oc job after this crap

  33. Manny Says:

Please stop posting his picture. I just wanna strangle him!! Hes the most idiotic coach in football. Id rather cal up a d3 head coach to take his spot.

  34. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    mark2001 Says:
“Crack… I think the officials we saw today are rank amateurs that shouldn’t be within a hundred miles of a professional football game.”
    .
    .

But they have a woman on their crew. That’s the most important thing.

  35. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    Chuck Stevens Says:
“They lost the will to play when they won the Superbowl.'”
    .
    .

So how do you explain winning their division and winning a playoff game last season? They didn’t lose their composure until half way into this season, more than a year after their Super Bowl.

  36. Joey Says:

I agree with most comments. Opinion: change coaches for better, coaches that run the ball, and keep TB there under new coaches for at least a year to see if performance increases. It should. I don’t believe TB is calling his plays, and that could be part of the big picture.

  37. Proudbucsfan Says:

We only win one more game. We don’t win the Division. Hire Sean Payton while he is avalible. No way no playoffs. No one told Todd ever, not to fix something that isn’t broke so he went and broke something that was already fixed.

  38. Travis Says:

Both of the head coach you need to be fired offensive coordinator leftwich and head coach Todd plz… I’ll bet we’ll start winning

  39. BucFanforLife Says:

If we somehow stumble our way into the playoffs, we shouldn’t show up for our first playoff game. Why bother. We’re not beating teams like the Cowboys, Eagles and others. Hell any team in the NFL right now can kick our ass. Name a team that can’t.

  40. King Tuna Says:

Bucs offensive line is the worst in all of Football!! Losing Jensen, Marpet and Gronk and replacing them with a mistake prone penalty stricken line is making the whole offense look bad! Brady doesn’t have 2 seconds to throw the ball, so they cannot throw the ball down the field and Leftwich’s predictable play calling and his inability to try anything else is worthy of him losing his job!!! This run the ball every 1st down for 1 yard then throw the short pass behind the line (a long hand off essentially) for 2 more yards puts you at a constant 3rd and long situation is not sustainable!! Bowles decision making and the unpreparedness of the Team is worthy of both coaches being fired!!! If you want to win with Brady bring in Josh for Offensive coach and Payton for head coach and the Bucs will make it to the Superbowl again next year!! This year is a 1st round massacre just like the San Francisco Game!!!

  41. Kelly C. Bowman, Sr. Says:

The play calling is pathetic. Professional football teams cross the first down marker on short pass plays instead of 3 yards shy and getting smothered immediately due to no blocking scheme. The BUCS always come up short and the call is always the same with short yardage and everyone knows it. Lenny up the middle where the defense is waiting for him instead of letting him burst towards the corners where his momentum alone will pick up the few yards. That’s why they’re the worst on 3rd down conversions. Send the receivers to the first down yardage, Brady can throw a 10 yard pass. Let the runners use their speed towards the corners instead of running into a pile. And let the blockers block DIRECTIONALLY to open lanes for everybody. As for the secondary defense, stop watching the play and then tackling, GO FOR THE BALL INSTEAD.
