Ailing Bucs Will Miss Multiple Key Pass Rush Pieces

December 16th, 2022

As if Joe Burrow and his high-powered Cincinnati offense wasn’t scary enough.

Head coach Todd Bowles announced today that Carl Nassib (pectoral) and Vita Vea (calf) will not play Sunday against Burrow and the Bengals. That’s the Bucs’ best inside rusher and outside rusher. No 4 edge rusher Genard Avery also will miss the game with an injury and Joe Tyron-Shoyinka is questionable with a hip issue.

“We’re extremely thin [on the edge],” Bowles said.

Joe expects to see rookie Logan Hall get a shot off the edge, an area where Joe thinks the second-round pick has talent. And look for Will Gholston to channel his younger Bucs days and pass rush more off the edge on Sunday.

Also out is Tampa Bay’s top cornerback this season, Jamel Dean, who has a bad toe, and Pro Bowl safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. remains questionable (ankle).

No worries. Plan 9 will fire his retro rockets and re enter Earth Atmosphere right over Ray Jay he may bring his Ray Jay zapper to stun the Bengals.

  2. gbobucsfan Says:

Just went from worse to cursed.

  3. NEfan Says:

This team is soft. Effing Purdy played with a striated oblique and banged up ribs. Bunch of frigging quitters. Move White down and Neal in as LB. Anyone know if Suh is playing?

How do you know a team is bad? When the start em sit em stream comes across and your QB and D are on the sit em side before the injury report comes out. Is someone telling you your O and D SUCK!!!

  4. ModHairKen Says:

Leftwich will run on the first play of the game. And the first play of the second half. Bucs will go 3 and out. Fans will boo. Bengals will zip down the field in 4 plays. DBs will give cushion to avoid damaging their manicures. DL will rush 5 and get no closer than 25 feet to Burrow.

Final score 55-7. Cincinnati. Bowles will say “we got our a$$es kicked. Again. But that’s on them. We don’t really look at stats around here. We have to get better.”

  5. DBS Says:

Another step toward a higher draft pick.

  6. adam from ny Says:

this defense might get offensive on sunday

  7. Anonymous Says:

Logan Hall should have been playing DE the whole time in the Richard Seymour role the whole time

  8. BucsfanFred Says:

Wonderful news. Please pass the koolaide.

  9. D-Rok Says:

Not good. Is it too early to start drinking for the game?

  10. TexasBucsFan Says:

DISASTER in the making. Why is anyone suprised?? It all starts with total poor coaching & poor decisions by management..

  11. Jmarkbuc Says:

Jason Licht ain’t no John Lynch.

This team is bereft of talent, Lichthouse has been smearing lipstick on a pig for years.

  12. Hammerhead Says:

I think the best thing we could do is thrown in the towel, forfeit this game and try to get some guys healed for next week because we don’t have a snowball’s chance this Sunday.

  13. BucsFan81 Says:

Doesn’t matter this team can’t score more than 7 points a game. Even if we had the 2002 Bucs defense we couldn’t win with this offense.

  14. Will Says:

I know all teams are hurting this time of year but this is RIDICULOUS. Do we have a training staff? The only thing I give them props for is getting Godwin back. Beyond that they are and have been terrible for a while now. Smh

  15. Bojim Says:

    Well, that sucks.

  16. Anonymous Says:

    Team quit

  17. Hodad Says:

What I want to know is, when Carolina comes to town and takes the division title, will that get bowles fired? No one should be expecting the Bucs to win against Cinncy, but lose next week? On the night B.A. gets in the ROH losing to the Panthers should get Bowles fired I would think.

  18. CoryC Says:

Good luck stoping a top 5 offence and a top 10 defence that shut down the Chiefs. They’ll finish 7/10 for the season.

  19. ElioT Says:

It would have been a beat down with a healthy defense, now Todd Bowels will know the meaning a bloodbath.

  20. Kentucky Buc Says:

The edge guys aren’t doing ship anyway. Nassib occasionally but that’s about it. Are Hall and Gholston or whoever going to be worse ?

  21. JBBucs_06 Says:

The injuries are troublesome. However, hopefully we get Mike Edwards, SMB, and Winfield back. We need rookie Logan to run from the outside, Will G to be a beast in the middle and the Bengals to take us lightly. but I’ll settle for our offense scoring 23 pts. If that happens, think we’ll have a chance…in the following weeks.

  22. Roc Says:

Umm yea what do you think will be different

  23. NEfan Says:

    SOFT!!!!

  24. Statisticly Insignificant Reader Says:

Going to see if I can start a chant in the stadium screaming CIRCLE JERK !!!

  25. teacherman777 Says:

JPP has 2 sacks and an interception.

We are cursed because we betrayed him, Jordan Whitehead and Suh

We are thin at CB because we drafted Trask and Darden.

The year after the Super Bowl was our chance to build depth.

Instead we drafted a 4th string QB and our 6th tiny WR.

  26. Defense Rules Says:

Doesn’t matter how much ‘talent’ you have if you can’t stay on the field. Bucs have far too many starters who miss far too many reps. When you play a quality team like the 49ers and are missing starters like Vea, Winfield, Edwards, SMB & Shaq it’s probably not gonna end well. And it didn’t. Coaching hasn’t helped, but you still need the horses in any event or it’s not gonna work.

  27. Redeemer Says:

Availability is the only ability that matters. Defense is right. What the hell is going on down there with injuries? Did they turn the operation over to Alex Guerrero and his special training methods? Some of it is bad luck, I get that. But for two straight years, our defense in particular has been decimate.

  28. SB~LV Says:

    Yawn
This season is a wet dipper

  29. ClwJB Says:

Wow – getting uglier by the minute

They might hang 50 on us

  30. kyle Says:

this game doesnt matter.. get healthy for the last 3 nfc games. not even going to complain about getting blown out sunday.

  31. kyle Says:

a win doesnt really change anything

  32. kyle Says:

bucs win the last 3 and they win the division

  33. Redeemer Says:

A three game win streak. Blahhahhhahh, BlahahHa. And if my grandma had wheels she’d be a wagon.

  34. SufferingSince76 Says:

    Good one, Redeemer.

We’ve been complaining about strength and conditioning of the team for the last 3 years. What the heck is going on?

  35. Stormy Says:

Hopefully another nail in Todd Bowles’ coffin.

  36. Cobraboy Says:

You think the 9ers had their way with this defense? Just wait until the Bengals do it worse…

  37. NEfan Says:

    SOFT, QUITTERS. Just like BA

  38. Goatfarmer Says:

A bludgeoning is a coming. We be don’t.

  39. Beej Says:

I truly think DW would be better at edge than inside LB

  40. THETRUTH Says:

Gholston still on team ?? That’s a guy who got paid and done nothing on the line this year

  41. Joe Says:

We’ve been complaining about strength and conditioning of the team for the last 3 years. What the heck is going on?

Bucs were so weak and out of condition they won a Super Bowl and a total of 29 games the past two years.

  42. JimmyfromNY Says:

Wait a second coach last week you said there’s no excuses for injuries now all of a sudden you’re thin at d end so much for next man up . He has a built-in excuse. What a complete waste of time you’ve been a head coach. You’re an absolute disaster. , I’ve never seen a team or injured in my life the past few seasons

  43. EEK Says:

    doesn’t matter
this roster has next to zero chance of winning Sunday
it’s 12-16-2022 — and no one has been fired yet

  44. Destinjohnny Says:

Vea is playing 40 pounds over his ideal pLaying weight
Gee I wonder why he is playing awful this year and getting hurt ?
Didn’t he get paid in the off-season ?

  45. Yucs2Bucsr Says:

Shocked people still comment on here after the last azz beating ? The only thing I’m happy about is I got full price for my 4 stadium club seats and heading to the hotel with my son to get Joey Bs auto !!! Bengals are going to blast this team on Sunday ..lmao cuz the Yucs are back

  46. richbucsfan Says:

No need to play this game. Bucs suck with those players and would lose. They will be roasted Sunday. Negotiate a forfeit and go to the next loss.

  47. orlbucfan Says:

What worries me is the team is giving up. And having a wrinkle shoved down their throat. Who can blame them?

  48. NEfan Says:

Well I heard Hendrickson may be out Sunday. I heard Suh and JPP are pretty healthy.

  49. D-Rok Says:

Look, I don’t think we’ll win on Sunday. What reasonable fan really does? All the injuries alone equates to a loss, not to mention the whole team is playing like a hobo trying to grab tidbits outta the dumpster. That’s the reality.

But dang, IF we win? Epic stuff, man, epic. Heck, I’d even settle for a 1-score loss at this point – that would be an over-achievement based on the play of the Bucs recently.

I don’t think we’ll win, but let’s concede this game, and not get our hopes up. Then, for the next 3 games, it’s balls to the wall, and those last 3 games will show us WHAT this team is made of. I give the coaches no credit nor shame for the next 4 weeks – it’s all on the players to rise up and overcome exception adversity.

It’s a dream, I know, but I’m TRYING to be optimistic. Lose the next 2, and I’m done with this team, this year.

  50. SB Says:

Why is it that Gholston is always the most reliable OL we have?

  51. Rodney Labrecque Says:

I say none of y’all know what you’re talking about I say the BUCS beat them. I’m going to laugh for all y’all bandwagon haters just showed up wrong all these hating ass comments I’ve seen on this thing. Go BUCS

  52. captivajim Says:

    carolina wins the division

  53. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    Beej Says:
“I truly think DW would be better at edge than inside LB.”
    .
    .

Devin is horrible at shedding the blocks of centers and guards who release on him. I don’t see him being able to get off of the blocks of tackles who generally are better than guards at moving laterally.

  54. unbelievable Says:

Oh wow. Looks like Brady will need 6 passing touchdowns. Probably pointless to even watch.

  55. King nasir Says:

Everyone on here sound dumb ASF you nf not no buc fan we gonna win this game

  56. SufferingSince76 Says:

And they haven’t done squat this year, Joe.

  57. AmauryGuzman Says:

This team has been injury prone the last two years. It’s ridiculous compared to other teams. Fire the training staff.

  58. Duane Says:

As Lovie used to say- “This team is Cincinnati ready!”

  59. NEfan Says:

They must be practicing too hard, they’re not used to it.

  60. HC Grover Says:

Play all the scrubs and practice squad. Give the top line players a bye week to try and beat Arizona, the Panters, and Chicks.

  61. AmauryGuzman Says:

HC Grover I just hope this team tries hard and doesn’t quit like the 49ers game. That’s all i wanna see . Trying to win the game despite being injury prone.

  62. DBS Says:

Rodney I guarantee when we lose we never see you again.

  63. mg Says:

    Will the cannons be silenced?

  64. IrishTony Says:

Thank God I’m in Vermont and can’t watch this s**t.

  65. mg Says:

Same here Tony – from Cape Cod.

  66. Buc4evr Says:

Season is over. Play Trask. Bucs are going to get killed on Sunday. Next year let’s get some players that are not so injury prone, like Suh!

  67. Mike Johnson Says:

say guys, take it from a man with plenty of experience, You might want to start your libations an hour before kickoff. That way you are nice and numb for the A## whipping our Bucs are gonna take this Sunday. No, Don’t hope. It will only make you cry harder. Sit back and watch the Bengals do their thing. They will not take us lightly or have mercy.

  68. steele Says:

So this pass rush, which has been poor all season anyway, is going to be even worse. And without Vea, the run defense will be garbage too. Todd Bowles thought balloon: “Blitz….blitz the linebackers….b-b-blitz…”

Bengals are going to have as much fun as the 49ers picking the Bucs apart on both O and D.

There is some hope, I think. Bengals have not been dominant all season, and are not the inspired juggernaut that SF is at the moment. If they have an off day, and Mr. Brady finds a way….but it would be surprising, and it would require a sudden awakening, the kind of team-wide fire and cohesion that we have not seen at all this year.

  69. Crickett Baker Says:

Well. It looks like many fans have quit on the Bucs. You guys are worse than the team this weak. At least they are going out there to play. Forfit?? Geeze. You say you aREN’T EVEN GONNA WATCH. You are the main quitters.

  70. Crickett Baker Says:

    week

  71. firethecannons Says:

these players need to rest and get outraged then channel that emotion into the next few games after this one. Bucs are a bad team and I do not see them making the playoffs. If they do then they are by far the worst team in the playoffs with a couple of bad coaches this team is done and unless they change management with all new coach staff then I am done too with this — no patience for this sh!t

  72. firethecannons Says:

crickett Oh I’m gonna watch just not expecting this team is gonna do sh!t I will also watch other teams I like more these days Bucs don’t deserve sht from us–players like donovan smith–no not worth sht

  73. Craig Says:

But we have Brady, maybe. Not the Brady I used to see, but a new Brady.

He has failed some and won some, but with a real coach.

With these folk I worry. The offense went for near the top to near the bottom

The defense falls further every week.

    What’s to worry about?

  74. PassingThru Says:

What’s truly sad is that Bowles hasn’t the ability to change his defensive scheme to accentuate strength or hide weaknesses. Barrett is out, JPP retired, Suh got too old, and JTS is El Busto. Yet none of that matters, there’s still an over-reliance on rushing the passer paired with soft zone coverage, despite the lack of a consistent, credible pass rush.

    It’s just plain stupid.

  75. Aceofaerospace Says:

I bet Suh would still be healthy. He always was.

  76. theghost Says:

    42-9 bengals

  77. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    I’ll be working Sunday.
Have fun watching the “game” suckers.
Vlad will check in around 8pm to read the comments.

  78. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    42-0 Bengals

Should have been 70-0 but Bengals put in 2nd string in mid 3rd quarter and play ball control mercy rule football.

  79. Vlad The Impaler Says:

Brady be like “What the hell is this? I’ve never seen such a dysfunctional organization in my life!”

  80. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    Tom,
This is the true Bucs. Epic losing. I’m amazed you were able to change the culture for a couple of years. That’s more than anyone did in the last 10 years. But in the end Bucs dysfunction is like a force of nature. It will always win over any attempt to be good.
    Sincerely,
    Vlad

P.S. Good luck with your new team next year. I’ll be watching.
    Thanks for the memories!

  81. NEfan Says:

Vlad this is definitely a drama filled shat show if a team. Where are you BA???

  82. Manny Says:

i dont need to write a kong comment here. Two words . WERE SCREWED !!!. Just when i was happy because jts might miss some time and nassib would start. He has been doing good this year and now hes hurt. RIDICULOUS!!!

  83. kyle Says:

why even play the starters sunday? The outcome does not matter? Id look at making it a bye week and letting the backups play.

Bengals are gonna roast the defense, we got no pass rush..haha everyone is hurt..

Then we have 3 nfc games and the playoffs start next week?
