Tom Brady Attempts 58 Passes

November 6th, 2022

After days of focus on improving their run game, the Bucs came out today against an average defense and proved they can’t run the ball — again!

The problems run deep. Tampa Bay had 20 carries for just 51 yards and that probably lowered its league-worst average to 2.9 yards per carry for the season.

But the good news is that Tom Brady attempted 58 passes, his old arm didn’t fall off and he had plenty left on his throws late in the game. Brady finished 36-of-58 for 280 yards and a touchdown throw to win the game to Cade Otton.

Brady ate just one sack and found his way to another turnover-free game. The offense looks miserable, but Joe applauds Brady for continuing to grind and grind and grind all game. He’s emotional on the field but never seems to lose focus.

Before kickoff, Buccaneers general manager Jason licht was on the team’s radio network talking about how the Bucs have to find rhythm and balance to their offense. (Joe will have more on that later).

Tampa Bay didn’t find what Licht was seeking, but they did find a season-saving “W,” hopefully one that will inspire the offense to wipe the collective mud off its shoes.

Joe is not scared of Brady throwing 50 times a game. In fact, Joe thinks if the Bucs’ playcalling was more sound, it would find a way to throw to set up the run.

With seven drops and too many thrown in the dirt.

Aaron Donald could not be held by anyone on our line and rushed too many things. That is not against our line, because he does it to everybody.

The big problem today were those crucial drops, they could have made the game a blow out, not a cardiac attack.

  3. DungyDance Says:

This has to be a huge psychological lift with everything Brady has been dealing with in his life. Good for him. And good for the team. Oh, and one more thing… FIRE LEFTWICH NOW.

  4. Rod Munch Says:

How many of those 58 passes were designed plays that were at or behind the line of scrimmage? I’d guess, half? Then throw in another 40% of them that were designed to be within 10 yards of the LOS. The other 10% was all inside of 2 mins.

  5. Waterboy Says:

Where does that yards per pass attempt rank in the league? Got to be at the bottom.

  6. EA Says:

Eventually they will move the sticks on 1st or 2nd down, I have faith in Byron Leftwich (NOT).

  7. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

That last sentence is spot on Joe. We played that way for 2 years. Still, Brady averaged less than 5yds per attempt. That’s scary bad.

  8. AmauryGuzman Says:

That’s a lot of passes. Yikes. Our running game is just pathetic. I wonder about tommy fading in the second half because he has to do everything.

  9. gotbbucs Says:

It helps if you give the ball to a running back that doesn’t wear #7. Of course if you don’t give it to #7 he pouts on the sideline, and we can’t have that either.

  10. Redeemer Says:

Just let Brady call the plays at the LOS. The hurry up saved the game. if Miller doesn’t drop that sure TD, it’s over. I counted 7 drops today. Anyone still think the goat doesn’t have it?

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How about our punter averaging almost 60 yards a punt on 6 punts…..4 inside the 20 and a punt at the one that should have been challenged….
Rams had a total of 13 yards on returns.

It could be said that Jake Camarda kept us in this game.

  12. Dooley Says:

I’m fine with Brady throwing as much as it takes to win a game, but it’s Rocket Camarda I’m worried about being over worked.

  13. AmauryGuzman Says:

    Fire leftwich!

  14. Yucs2Bucs Says:

A win is a win and happy they didn’t lose 5 in a row, but that team is still horrible and embarrassing to watch and root for !!! Facts

  15. Joe in Michigan Says:

I had to work today and couldn’t watch the game. I’m wondering if the one pass to Vaughn was a good pass that he dropped, or was a bad pass…Thanks, if anyone remembers that play.

  16. Oneilbuc Says:

Defense wins championships !!! Brady can only throw short passes now so they have to get the running game going. We ain’t winning with this offense playing like this.

  17. Oneilbuc Says:

So no credit for BL lol 🤣 I told y’all if Brady plays well then it’s all Brady but when he plays bad it’s BL lol 🤣🤣 .

  18. D-Rome Says:

58 attempts? I don’t care how bad the run game is, this team cannot win late in the season if Brady is throwing 50+ games. They still need to force a run game.

No s*it caption obvious! That’s a hot take right there!

  20. Leighroy Says:

The rams were wise to the Godwin screens. The word is out, this play stinks.

  21. D-Rok Says:

    Let’s Go Leftnut, Let’s GO!!!

C’mon fans, this is ridiculous in today’s NFL. The offensive play-calling, that is.

I can call a 21-dive even half deep into a 6-pack, how cannot anyone else (hello, Glazers?) see these play-calls are KILLING this team.

Still, glad for a victory snatched from the Bowles of defeat. Looking at you, mostly, Byron. Get your act together, bro!

  22. Your Mom Says:

It really isn’t an accurate metric in that the Bucs throw passes behind the line of scrimmage a lot, the equivalent of a running play.

Not that their offense doesn’t stink, but I’d be curious what the stats of runs + that kind of pass are.

  23. bucs4life Says:

We actually ran the ball pretty well on some downs. The problem? We kept running up the gut on consecutive downs. Football is a deception and mismatch game. Why has Leftwich NOT realized this yet?! We need good playcalling!!!

  24. Beeej Says:

” too many thrown in the dirt” Those were throwaways for the most part, TONS better than taking a sack

  25. Ab Says:

Please, please, for the love of god please stop calling WR screens!!!

Nobody can block them up, opposing teams are jumping the play, and it just increases the chances of someone getting hurt. Stop calling the damn play!

Oh, and stop calling runs to the inside when the interior line is the worst part of the team!! If you honestly can’t get creative with the run game Byron (and Harold, yes, your ass should be fired too) then just stop calling runs!!

  26. Frank Pillow Says:

This moronic coaching staff thinks the elixir for our garbage running game is to keep calling the same four running plays and then rotating the backs in between running the same four plays again and again. There’s zero creativity happening. Zero honest self assessment. We won in spite of coaching.

  27. unbelievable Says:

They ran on every first down except for 3 of them, until the very last 2 drives.

The runs with White were working, but they kept putting Fournette back in… because he was pouting.

This team is lacking leadership at the top. Bowles just isn’t it apparently.

The defense played great, outside of one badly blown play.

The offense needs to go hurry up more often, and use the pass to open up the run, and use Whire when they want to run the ball.

  28. Old School Bucs Says:

Bucs should throw to set up the run. That will not be the first time brady has had to do that. He did it a few times in NE! Certainly this telegraphing the run on 1st and 2nd down has to stop. Running the ball to say you are running the ball is stupid and we saw the results again tonight. Throw on 1st down or 2nd down or both, and hurry up offense is definately are friend. Bowles needs to tighten up the big plays on defense. This team has the talent, the experience to make a formidable run to the superbowl!

Don’t forget his 2 coverage tackles. He got punished on one of them.

Yes. I only counted two throws that I thought were bad low throws, and one of them was caught.

  31. Coburn Says:

Love what Lenny had done for this team and s good dude, but he needs to ride the bench more. White actually looked pretty good when it wasn’t back to back runs

  32. Manny Says:

I am going to say this in every single post i comment in. First and foremost leftwich has to go, abd secondly to all the people constantly downing tom, he’s playing pretty good for the crap repetitive plays he is givem. The biggest stat for me that i think joe should bring up but never does is that tom is literally about to make good nfl history and in a bucs uniform.

He is just 30 passes away from passing kareb rodgers for the most passing attempts without a pick. He sits at 373 right now which is just incredible. To think how hard that actually is to go. Rodgers had 402. That will be an unbeatable record if he breaks it.

  33. Slim M. Says:

Brady reminds me of the Tin Man in Oz movie. He can’t scramble and run. These days, QB’s need to be able to scramble, get out of the pocket!!!!

  34. orlbucfan Says:

We supposed to give the senile old whatever a medal? Thank god, he didn’t throw a pick. I’ve got a next door neighbor who was born in RI and raised on the Pats. He told me point-blank yesterday that Brady is senile, needs to retire, and too blinded by ego to do it.
