Time To Pull Away?

November 21st, 2022

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

Yes, Joe noted yesterday that the NFC South race is tightening. Some NFL observers aren’t putting much stock in that.

With the likes of runaround quarterback Marcus Mariota, Andy Dalton and P.J. Walker/Baker Mayfield quarterbacking the other NFC South teams, it almost feels like the Bucs are set up to win the division.

Now the Bucs are 5-5. Nothing to brag about. And until the Bucs pounded the Seahawks in Munich, the Bucs had major issues on offense.

Did the Bucs turn the corner in Germany? Only time will tell. But follicly-challenged Billy Barnwell of BSPN seems to think the Bucs have. And given the soft schedule the rest of the way, the Bucs should pull away from the pack.

Just two of Tampa’s final seven games are against teams with winning records: A home game against the 5-4 Bengals and a road trip to play the 5-4 49ers. The Bucs get the Browns and Saints over the next two weeks and finish with the Cardinals, Panthers and Falcons. The Super Bowl LV champs likely will be favored in six of their remaining seven games.

What it means: The Bucs should be able to pull away from their competition in the NFC South and host a playoff game in January.

Joe watched the Bills-Browns game yesterday and the Browns gave the Bills a fight before collapsing in the third quarter. The three-wins Browns have talent. Just a sad team.

And if the Bucs played like they did in Munich, their best game of the season, why can’t they play that way at San Francisco?

For the Bucs to pull away, Joe feels it will be all about health. If Akiem Hicks and Julio Jones are on the field, this team should be OK.

So it is said. So it must be done.

  2. SOEbuc Says:

One week at a time. Russell Gage and Logan Ryan down the stretch. Ryan and Winfield were very good in that nickel safety duo

    Jensen is a ghost story.

atlanta is replacing the saints as the team that will be breathing down our neck until the end of the season…

but we should win the division regardless by 2 games over them…maybe 3…

also it’s interesting how jameis has fallen off there so hard…

will the saint have the cohones to start him vs the bucs on mnf?

you know he wants to eat a W and act the foo on camera

  5. BucU Says:

Who is this Russell Gage u speak of?

  6. Beej Says:

If we lose more than 1 or 2 of the remaining, we weren’t good enough to go anywhere in the playoffs anyway

  7. BucsFanSince 1996 Says:

Yeah, the health of the team is.critically important if they are wanting a chance to go deep.into the playoffs. If they continue to get healthy and the O-line plays like it did in Munich we could run the table.

I’m not predicting that that is going to happen. I see it as possible but need to see more than just one good game. But, given the state of the NFC it seems like there”s a real opportunity to be playing in February.

We’ve got to win the division at worst we can go 3-4 and still make it in, but we’ve got to beat the right teams. This 7 game gauntlet the Bucs are about to run should be about correcting functional issues we’ve had as a team and putting together complete quarters, halves, and games of football. We take care of that, our playoff picture gets clearer and I’m not really convinced home/away is that big a deciding in our chances to win. This team owes it to themselves to finish the season as strong as possible.

Yesterday I had a really good laugh. I was watching the Philly and Indy game. I had to pinch myself to realize that Byran Lefty wasn’t the OC for Indy. EVERY 1st. down was run up the gut! Time after time after time. Yes, they lost. Talk’n bout choking!! Matt Ryan. the king of chokers. He had a 25 point lead against Tom and the Pats with 2 minutes left in the 3rd qtr. You guessed it. They was in FG range. could have put it away with a FG. You got it. He takes a sack Same thing yesterday. you guessed it….a sack. Jeff Saturday, I hope you learned something. Unlike lety who keeps doing it

The question was asked, “ And if the Bucs played like they did in Munich, their best game of the season, why can’t they play that way at San Francisco?”

And the answer can be found in the photo accompanying the title and a photo of a gut about to drool next to a pervious title.

  12. D-Rome Says:

I thought for sure Baker Mayfield would turn his career around elsewhere. He’s much worse than I thought.

  13. Anthony Says:

I think they can win them all but geez you brought up winning records 9f the other teams have you not learned anything. They lost to teams with bad records already and they play down to the competion

  14. Brazen Zebra Says:

Mariota, Dalton, Mayfield? Johnny Footballs all! The Ryan Leafs of the 21st century. Buh-buh-buh-bad!! Especially that clown Mayfield. The Bucs path is greased for the playoffs. Go Bucs!

  15. TampabayDJ82 Says:

@SOE – Jensen is out for the year. It’s been said by a few players and others. The Bucs just haven’t ” “officially ” said it yet

    What soft schedule ?
At Browns will be easy ?
The Saints will be easy ?
At 49ers coming off a Monday Night against the Saints ?
    Bengals ?
    At Cardinals ?

    There are no easy games.
