Thank You, Cleveland!

November 26th, 2022

Bucco Bruce Arians

Joe was waiting until this afternoon — when the Bucs flew to Cleveland — to issue a formal thank you to the Browns organization.

In fact, Team Glazer should issue one, as well.

Just passed was the four-year anniversary of Bucco Bruce Arians telling Browns reporter Steve Doerschuk that he would be interested in taking the Cleveland head coaching job. Arians was a CBS analyst calling a Browns game and said the Browns opening was the only one that would pull him out of retirement.

The Browns weren’t too interested and didn’t interview Arians. Instead, Cleveland promoted its offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, an Arians disciple 23 years younger than Arians. He lasted one season.

The Bucs pounced on Arians after the Dirk Koetter regime closed with four consecutive losses, and the rest is glorious Bucs history.

Arians wasn’t blowing cigar smoke when he said he wanted the Browns gig. He liked Baker Mayfield and loved the city and its fans after serving successfully as offensive coordinator there. He also had gotten a close look at multiple Browns games and had a feel for the talent (which led to the 2019 Bucs signing Breshad Perriman.)

Thanks again, Cleveland!

Joe can’t begin to imagine what would have happened if Arians went to Cleveland and brought Todd Bowles and his staff.

Who would the Bucs have hired? Adam Gase to try and take Jameis Winston to the next level? Vic Fangio? The former got the Jets job and the latter went to Denver.

Would Tom Brady have replaced Drew Brees?

Joe is so grateful to the football gods.

I really think that Freddie Kitchens has more imagination on offense than Byron Leftwich. When Arians is fully gone, boy will we miss him.

  2. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    That’s cold as ice Joe.
    Vlad applauds you

Cleveland fans just can’t buy a break.

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Thank Baker Mayfield because he wanted Freddy Kitchens and the Browns granted

  4. Vlad The Impaler Says:

Lets hope the Good Bucs show up tomorrow

  5. Joe in Michigan Says:

They may have also saved the Bucs from trading for Watson. Thankful is an understatement!

  6. BillyBucco Says:

Rachaad White goes for 145 and 2 TDs.
I bet he breaks a 50 yarder in the 2nd half.

This stud finally gets his chance.

    Lost for words Joe

Unfortunately, the football gods only rain on our Bucs twice every 40+ years. Let’s pray that changes, especially after Brady retires.

  9. SB~LV Says:

We have enough problems without creating imaginary ones

    God bless Jimmy Haslam

BA turning the Bucs into a winner is the reason TB came to Tampa and BA now having his name in the Ring of Honor and an eight ring in 2022

  12. Thadeus Says:

Now that Tom has gotten rid of that cheating Ho of a wife, he can get his head back in the game. We need him to take us all the way because coaching sure isn’t going to get it done.

  13. steele Says:

Bucs were fortunate to get one SB with everything lining up just right, despite a lot of underlying problems that would later blow up. Thank the football gods, and TB12 the football god, for the one.

Now back up a few weeks. Or back up to last season. Arians and his coaching tree have failed to repeat despite adequate talent, and this season they are really being exposed.

We don’t know how it could have gone post-Koetter, if Bucs would have gone in a different direction. Maybe a regime even more conducive to Brady.

  14. August 1976 Buc Says:

So thankful BA came to the Bucs.

    Be strong and Healthy Coach.

Joe, just like the cool Joel Buschbaum post you put out every NFL draft day

Please post this Thank You post about BA every time the Bucs play the Browns.
Kind of like a ” JBF’s post of honor” Like the ring of honor in the stadium

thats really what the J Buschbaum post is like every draft day

    GO BUCS GO BA!!!!!!!!!

  15. Tye Says:

Hopefully the Bucs can get lucky again and get a Winner like Jim Harbaugh to replace Bowles as HC… then the future would be bright instead of bleak!

  16. SB Says:

Anyone who Seriously wanted Johnny Manziel just had a Man crush kinda thing going on.
Anyone who wasn’t looking through beer goggles knew Evans made Manziel.

  17. Goatfarmer Says:

Some fans bag on Arians, he went 7-9 with Jameis 30/30 boob, 15-5 Super Bowl in RayJay, 14-5 NFC South Champs and Todd’s Bowels’ 30 seconds away from a second Trip to the NFCC.

In three seasons he became the most successful head coach in Bucs history. Tom doesn’t come to the Bucs without him.

Tom doesn’t come to the Bucs without him.

If anyone wants to say we could have done it without Tom, you’ve had blunt trauma to your cerebral cortex and I’m sorry.

Or you’re Joe in Michigan and simply ignorant about football.

  18. Carl L Says:

The goat farmer speaks wise words. If Tom can do it with BA at the helm, he can do it with another ding Dong, TB. Hope TB and leach worth get out of Toms way, real soon.

  19. geno711 Says:

BA was the best coach the Bucs ever had and one of the top 5 coaches in the league when he was coaching here.

  20. NEfan Says:

    Top 5? That’s a pretty big stretch.

  21. Mike C Says:

Bucs be back, better twice in 40 then never like the Browns,Detroit, Buffalo,Minnesota….. and Others. Been 25 years since San Fran or Dallas won a super bowl, life isn’t so bad as a Buc fan.

  22. Wild Bill Says:

Hahaha Thank you Cleveland for putting the Bucks exactly where they belong. I knew we stunk by halftime.
