Rachaad White Believes He Got Better As He Got More Touches

November 15th, 2022

Carrying the rock.

Joe found this pretty interesting.

After running for 105 yards Sunday, his first triple-digit game, Bucs rookie running back Rachaad White confessed there may have been a little secret why he ran so well.

He got a lot of touches Sunday. So many that White believed he was getting better as the game progressed because he carried the rock so often.

“Yeah, that’s a big thing, obviously, especially when you’re getting carries back-to-back, things like that, you get in a rhythm,” White said. “You get in a groove. So that helped out a lot.”

For the folks constantly stomping their feet claiming the Bucs’ offensive line is the work of Lucifer and is dragging the team down to unthinkable fathoms, you guys will get a jolt out of the following.

White credited his offensive line.

“Also obviously my offensive line, everybody was just on point,” White said. “We really love to see it, and Coach [Byron Leftwich] was dialing it up.”

Joe really wants to believe everything fell into place just because the Bucs ran well. That may be the reason but it seems too simplistic.

Joe believes it has as much to do about health (Akiem Hicks, Julio Jones) and rookies growing into their roles (Cade Otton, Ko Kieft, Jake Camarda, White) as anything else.

    I believe he’s right. imho

  2. Cobraboy Says:

    I chuckle. Dog bites man.

EVERY running back thinks he gets better with more carries.

    Even William Perry.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Our eyes haven’t lied to us all season….White hits the holes and sees the holes more quickly…..
I’m not saying he’s better than Lenny….just different…..and may be suited for our Oline blocking better.

Still would like to see KV win more touches also.

  4. orlbucfan Says:

White, Leavitt (sp?), and Camarda are three huge pluses for Licht and Bowles. They will only get better.

  5. Pryda…sec 147 Says:

I’m convinced Lenny isn’t 100% or even 90% he has something holding him back. They got a formula here for success it might be a heavy dose of White with a dash of Lenny

  6. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - Founder of UniqueModernArt.com Says:

Based on production, White should get the RB1 workload.

  7. SB Says:

You don’t win “Angry Runs” by accident.

Attitude has been lacking in the RB room.

  8. Dooley Says:

Rachaad White runs like T-1000 model terminator in the open field ands seems like a great compliment to Lenny’s style of running working out of our backfield. Agreed with @TBBF it would be nice to get Sneak integrated into some of these game plans moving forward in attempts to give our pass game something to stand/lean on.

  9. Bojim Says:

    Love it.

  10. Craig Says:

You can’t get into rhythm sitting the bench. So, yeah, he got better, Vaughn would too; he got three snaps a few weeks ago and that was it.

Vaughn had a strong run on his first play, then got stuffed. The third snap was one of Brady’s throw it into the dirt throws and should not count against him.

  11. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Fournette seemed to run better after watching White run so well. Competition is good for the team. If Fournette’s attitude is that he does not have to compete for the job then that may be what has been holding him back for most of the season. He has been part of the problem, like it or not. If more splitting of carries fixes it, then by all means split the carries.

  12. ZZbucs Says:

I couldn´t care less on who is number one and who number two, as long as the running games keeps it up.

White had a great game so as Lenny……

  13. The Big Sombrero Says:

I have been saying, run White!!! This kid is the “Real Deal Holyfield”.

  14. DungyDance Says:

Joe – it would be really interesting to see polling results for whether people think BL should still get the axe. Previously the sentiment was pretty much, “do it right away.” But now? Do we ride the wave?

  15. DmanTX Says:

I agree and well I have thought the same in regards to Vaughn/Sneak. Let’s get them both more involved and hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised. Fournette is great but he is slower and needs larger holes to have consistent success. I don’t think that is the case with White and Vaughn.

Totally agree on both counts Joe, especially about the rookies growing into their roles. They had some big shoes to fill, and it’s just natural I’d think that it’d take them awhile to get up to speed.

The Bucs’ OLine is finally starting to gel also I think. Donnie was hurt for a number of games & that may have had an impact. Leverett seemed to have grown into his role, and IF Jensen makes it back, I got a hunch Leverett will stay at left guard.

Tom Brady’s also had several games this year that were very ‘un-Brady-like’. His family situation more than likely played into that, but so did the OLine issues. He looked a lot more confident in his OLine yesterday, and the results showed.

Leverett. Pretty easy to look it up.

  18. David Says:

We have all seen it the last month. He is really good. He is explosive yet very smooth and patient. I love Lenny and he helped bring a Super Bowl here but this kid is more explosive more elusive and sees holes better

  19. adam from ny Says:

i believe he hasn’t really broken out yet…he’s got more moves in his repertoire that will come out as he gets more comfortable and settles in more…

he, cotton, camarda, and kieft look like 2 very nice additions so far…

others still with question marks imho

  20. Stuck on a farm Says:

Thought the NFL told him to stop talking?

  21. Bob Says:

I like the use of both of them. Lenny is so powerful and Rashaad so smooth and shifty….tough combination to defend against!

  22. BucsFanSince76 Says:

    Did anyone miss Russell Gage?

  23. Deeez NATZ Says:

Love Rashad! He is going to break one.He has that breakaway speed that the chunky lsu tiger does not possess….Keep kick ash Rashad ! The sky is the limit big dawg!

  24. Aceofaerospace Says:

This kid could be a great pick. Joe, just curious, has Ronald Jones been active a single game this year.

  25. Elita Vita Says:

Whoopie! Raashad White has been honored with this week’s GMF Angry Scepter Award! Whooo Hooo. Straight arm Raashad!

  26. macajubav Says:

He’s making a big pitch to run it all the time so he can get in his rhythm, which is also saying bench lenny ! Lenny won’t be happy with this guy, likely already isn’t.

  27. Aceofaerospace Says:

Personally, I’m not happy with any draft pick that is content to be second string or worse. If you’re not motivated to fight for the starting job, go somewhere else.

  28. Mike Says:

You gotta feed the young buc!

  29. Mr. Magoo Says:

Joe’s last paragraph summed it up perfectly. Also, I would give more carries to White because he’s earned it.

  30. Tap-Out Says:

O J White is what I call him …spot on size wise but give him more snaps and let’s see if he can put the outcome of a game on his shoulders!

  31. Bucsfanman Says:

The play-calling was different too, for a change. There were some nice runs to the outside and White seemed to find the green grass.

Lenny looked a little lethargic by comparison. Still, it was a good day of running.

And yes, the OL deserves credit too!

  32. unbelievable Says:

White is more shifty, for sure.

We also ran more on 2nd down, which was very effective.

As for Lenny – he got hurt week 1 and has been playing through injury. I don’t blame him for that, I blame the coaches for being stubborn.

O-line is definitely gelling better with Leverett in there too.

  33. Biff Barker Says:

White has been pushing since the draft. Good to an extent.

As I saw somewhere here, abother poster said “Lenny looks like he got paid”.

    He was correct.

Lenny will pout. BA knew how to handle these things. Will Todd? Offensive guys too?. We need production, not distracton. Kill this quickly and in creative fashion.

  34. captivajim Says:

I said wks ago to play White; he can accelerate quicker & is faster than Lenny, He’s going to be the #1 back ,.He demonstrated that he’s not afraid of contact..

they should let Goedecke recoup & heal up for a few months–maybe even put him on IR..

  35. Buc50 Says:

So Giselle had a side piece the whole time. Can’t tell me anything different.

  36. Buc king Says:

See some big plays in his near future..he just has to protect the ball and pick up blitzes

  37. Crickett Baker Says:

Lenny and Rachaad (you may recall he was my favorite draft pick) are both excellent players although different. Lenny did great and we need them both. I was also surprised to see Hicks doing SO well. He was miked up and so there was a lot of video of him. He was doing so well and laughing the whole time. I sure hope our team keeps this up.

  38. D-Rok Says:

Good to very good run blocking this game. Kudos to O-line.

Good vision, burst, and knowing where the holes were from R. White.

Add on Throwing Homie Outta the Club, and you had a beastly game from R. White. Add on being SMART and getting down late in the game, and you have a RB with a good future on this team and in this league.

Great job, young Buc! Keep building on this…

    GO BUCS!!!
