“Flat” Bucs

November 1st, 2022

Super Bowl window closed?

Yesterday, Joe noticed that a prominent NFL scribe predicted a losing season for the Bucs.

NBC Sports’ Peter King typed that he just doesn’t see the Bucs being able to turn things around.

Joe is starting to get that feeling. Look, if failing Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich knew how to fix things, he would have done so by now. This offense looks just the same in a loss to Baltimore as it did the win over Dallas to open the season.

Leftwich, while weekly dodging any meaningful responsibility for how he has destroyed this offense, says he’s working hard to correct things. Where are the results?

Another guy who has thrown in the towel on the Bucs as we begin November is popular national radio and TV sports personality and NFL.com columnist Adam Schein.

Tampa Bay’s flat. Blame the offensive line, the inability to run, Tom Brady, Todd Bowles, the defense … Everything.

Look, this division is so lousy and you never know when Tom Brady will suddenly lead this team to wins. But the Bucs very easily could be 3-7 when Joe returns home from Munich two weeks from today

If that happens, that’s about as gloomy as it gets.

TB should have retired. Todd Bowles not Tom Brady!

  2. Marine Buc Says:

We need to focus on New Orleans, Atlanta and Carolina…

If we can win those three games we have a chance at making a playoff run if we can get this team somewhat healthy.

Luckily for us two of those games are at week #16 and #17.

Rest the older and injured players and get some of the young guys a chance to play and gain some experience…

3-7 would be devastating. I would think the firings would begin at 3-10.

  4. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I do not see any firings during this season, no matter how bad it gets.
The Glazers do not respond to public pressure. Remember Coach Schiano ?
He had Billboards all over Tampa demanding his removal, and still the Glazers waited until the season was over to fire him.
Matt Ruhle really has it made!
The Panthers owe him nearly 40 million dollars, unless he takes another head coaching job.
Well, guess who is going to sit on his Azz, and collect the money ?

The Bucs came out Thursday night with actual scripted plays that didn’t look like the typical boring play selection (Arians?). They scored in in the first quarter for the first time in forever.

After that, it sure looked to me like Leftfoot totally abandoned what worked from those scripted plays. Stubborn? If you are going to totally ignore what was (probably) handed to you–THAT WORKED–just to stubbornly go back to your vanilla play selection that has demonstrated all season to not work, then you aren’t actually trying to “correct things.” Or you are overwhelmed and over your head.

  6. ClwJB Says:

Maybe this week he won’t call 5 bubble screens and run out of 3 TE set with no lead blocker right into the A gap

Maybe he will actually read the injury report of the other team and exploit their weaknesses – like AJ Brown VS a 3rd team Steelers corner for 3 TDs Sunday

Hey Byron did you catch that game by chance? maybe we should have done that???

It’s painful to watch him mull over that huge play sheet and then he calls the same 10 plays 5 to 6 time each per week

  7. Lakeland Steve Says:

The only way the Bucs offense turns it around is if they can begin to run the Ball effectively and make defenses respect the Bucs ability to run. Then Brady will be able to run some of his favorite and most effective plays off of play action. We would see more passes down field and perhaps less dink and dunk.
If Brady continues to have to throw 50 times a game we are doomed. If the Bucs stand any chance of turning this around the defense has to be on the field much less than they have been.

  8. Hodad Says:

Tom Brady, Todd Bowles, the defense everything! That about sums it up.

Make sure loudmouth Adam Schein “marks the tape” on this prediction.
Most everything he babbles about is wrong, as this will be.
