Bad Offense Incoming

November 1st, 2022

Vita Vea has 4 1/2 sacks through eight games.

Who could have predicted that Sunday’s Bucs-Rams clash will be a clash between two miserable offenses, and the Rams’ is actually worse than Tampa Bay’s.

The Rams have scored just 77 points in their last five games, and they even had a bye week mixed in to get their act together.

Officially, the Rams’ running game is ranked 31st in the NFL. Guess whose is worse? And their passing game is poor, too. Los Angeles ranks 26th in yards per pass attempt. The Bucs rank 15th in that area.

QB Matthew Stafford has thrown seven touchdowns against eight interceptions. Tom Brady has nine TDs and just one pick. Stafford has eaten a whopping 24 sacks; Brady has just 13.

The point here is that the Bucs have yet another opportunity to rescue their sinking ship against a bad football team.

The Rams defense is good but not what it’s been in past years. They’re beatable if the Bucs can somehow shake off inexcusable ineptitude led by a fourth-year offensive coordinator and a quarterback who has stopped raising the games of those around him.

Joe hasn’t given up on the Bucs offense, but Joe is looking more for a big game from Vita Vea, among the other Bucs Pro Bowlers on defense.

Vea hasn’t had the greatest season, but he is rushing the passer and leads the Bucs with 4 1/2 sacks, an extraordinary number for a double-teamed nose tackle on Nov. 1. Vea has the big-play capability, and the Bucs need it after losing their biggest big-play pass rusher in Shaq Barrett.

The season is on the line, Vita, for both teams. Time to have the game of your life.

Cure for a bad offense? Its the Lovie err Todd Bowles sieve defense, led by Chris Baker err Devin White

Take Cooper Kupp to set records in fantasy and in real life, he divorces himself from the Tampa Defense quicker than…

  5. Letsbucinggo Says:

Vea leads the team with 4.5 sacks doesn’t say much for our edge rushers.

  6. D-Rok Says:

Which rookie will Aaron Donald demolish this game? If the Bucs do a decent job with Donald, we might just have a chance.

We need a spark badly! We need a win badly! We need…we need….well, we just have needs.

  7. Buc1987 Says:

Rand..just curious…wth does that even mean Pathew Pafford?

  8. Redeemer Says:

The Rams line is horrendous. Getting pressure on Stafford shouldn’t be a problem, if the effort is there. That defense still scares me though, especially with how poorly we’ve played on offense. Bucs coaching staff is playing for their jobs IMO. If that doesn’t motivate this group, we’ll know how they feel about the staff. At the beginning of the season, I thought this game could determine home field. Now it may determine who gets into the playoffs. Crazy year

  9. SB Says:

    Cooper Kupp though.

  10. macajubav Says:

BUC1987, Pathew Pafford was either stolen from a commercial, OR it’s the effeminate g@y lisp.

Bucs haven’t beat the Rams in three seasons.

    2022 TBD
    2021 0-2
    2020 0-1

You have to go back to Winston in 2019 to find a win. Rams win. Better coaching … way better.

  13. D-Rok Says:

Precisely, Redeemer – how well this game goes for us depends on 1) how we deal with Donald (See: last year’s Super Bowl); and 2) how we deal with Cupp.

On our O, if Evans, Godwin, and Julio are healthy and ballin’, we stand a chance.

I’m glad (for us) the Rams are diminished this year, but still don’t have much confidence we will play well. Notice I didn’t say Win, I said play well.

We had 2 good first drives last week, and that was about it. Slight improvement, but not enough to inspire confidence.

    SIGH. Go Bucs?

  14. ElioT Says:

Stafford is injured. His elbow is gone.

Stafford should be remembered as an all time great.

He is up there with Brees and Brady.

He just played on one of the worst teams in the league.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

Isn’t today at 4 PM the trade deadline Joe? Not a single rumor coming out of One Buc Palace? Nada? Is Licht vacationing in the Bahamas or something?

  18. Rand Says:

  19. D-Rok Says:

Exactly, DR. Aint nobody combing the waiver wire (LOL) looking for transactions?
    Only hearing crickets so far.

Like Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny, I’m over here stomping my feet because that clock is a ticking. Ha ha.

  20. Dooley Says:

Our offense has scored 12 TDs in 8 games, and in that span, Jake Camarda has punted the ball 38 times which is 6th most out of 32 teams.

  21. Your Mom Says:

I won’t get my hopes up for a Bucs victory given that nothing has changed that we know of.

  22. beano Says:

    HEY JOE!

Please explain why – with Brady and Gabbert 100% gone next year – you would NOT want Trask to see action this season so he can be evaluated, which information would factor into our 2023 draft day decisions. Hello? The Bucs are in the playoff hunt and they have Tom Brady. If they’re out of it, put in Mr. Trask. –Joe If Trask looks good, we won’t need to waste a first round 2023 pick on a quarterback who may or may not work out. We can fill another need in the first round and use the second or third round – or a trade or free agency – for a backup quarterback. It’s almost like you Trask haters DON’T WANT HIM ON THE FIELD EVER because you’re afraid he might look good with the starting offense – as many other backups have looked with other teams this year (see Patriots). Hmmm.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

    “Vea has the big-play capability”

Correct, which is why he needs to be on the field more, which isn’t going to happen when he’s clocking in at 370lb. Drop 40lbs kid, and then you’ll have a lot more stamina and won’t just be a part time player.

  24. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Bradley Chubb to Dolphins!!! Wake up Jason LFG DOOOO SOMETHING

  25. Rod Munch Says:

Defense Rules – There is literally no money, no more salary cap magic available. Yes, the cap is flexible, but the thing people don’t seem to get, is that all the flexibility has already been used. The Bucs went all-in last year, and when Brady unretired, they locked up Jensen, plus Godwin, plus Davis, which no one thought was gonna happen. But you also had to deal with Marpet unexpectedly retiring and now you got that cap hit, plus the void year deals with Gronk and Suh. Those three, together, give you $19mil in dead cap space.

But there’s just no space to do anything outside of getting guys on entry level deals, or getting a team to restructure a mid-level deal and eat cap space, which very very few teams are willing to do.

Maybe I’ll be wrong and in the next 90-mins they’ll pull off something and use some new trick that I’ve never heard of before, but I don’t know why anyone would expect it to happen.

In anycase, the biggest upgrade this team can get, by far, is to take away Leftwich’s game calling duties — or at least have someone ‘advising’ that he’s now called the same play in the same situation 9 times in a row. That would be bigger than any trade we could pull off.

  26. D-Rok Says:

Relax, beano. Young behind Montana, Rodgers behind Favre, Trask behind Brady.

If Trask is an NFL QB, he will get his chance. I aint worried about when he plays.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

BTW, speaking of cap, and how we went all in, as if you need more proof…

Next year the team has $53-million in dead cap, just by using void years, with no players attached to that.

    Brady, $35,104,000
    David, $6,855,000
    Hicks, $4,903,295
    Gholston, $2,400,000
    Julio, $3,456,236

This is assuming they don’t resign them, if they do, such as resign David, then the team spreads that $6.8-million over 3 years, for example.

Point being, there’s not much room to do anything, and even using void year ticks, signing bonuses, etc, you still don’t really have a lot of room to deal with.

Now if they can get past next year, then the cap should open up bigly, but they’re obviously already expecting that and have been spending that money as well.

  28. Rand Says:

Arians should help Leftwich from the booth in calling plays if he already doesn’t. Arians seems a little more of a risk taker while Leftwich gets to conservative at times.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

D-Rok – beano is just a troll, a UF fanboi, very low IQ, just posts non-stop messages about how much he hates Brady. Probably someone who went to school with Trask, hang out in the locker room to get a peak, went through his trash, that sort of stuff.

  30. D-Rok Says:

LOL, Rod. Perhaps you are right. Hey at least you didn’t say sniffing his jock…

  31. SB~LV Says:

Only 90 minutes for the trade deadline

  32. Redeemer Says:

D-Rok, as you’re well aware, cupp is basically their offense. If the bucs don’t double him every play, I may lose my mind. Same with Donald. Good teams make you play left-handed. I’m not predicting a victory either, but those two shouldn’t be allowed to beat you. If somebody else kills you, so be it. I fear that the Rams HC will coach circles around Bowles.

  33. HC Grover Says:

4 weeks to the tell. Lose 4 more and then what?

  34. SB~LV Says:

Bucs just extended Darden’ s contract

  35. D-Rok Says:

Yup, Redeemer. Same page. Geez do NOT let those 2 guys beat us!! Even if we lose and those 2 get mostly shut-down, it will be a minor victory.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

    Rand…yeah I missed it….but now if I see it…I’ll know what you’re talking about…thanks.

  37. BucBallin Says:

Keep Bowels and Suckwich in place the rest of the year. Top 5 draft pick is a lock with them in place. Mo losses, mo high draft picks. Just lose baby.

  38. D-Rok Says:

Forgive me if I don’t know even if I think I know, but isn’t Donald mostly lined up on his left of the D? If so, he’d be going against Mason and Wirfs, which is a match-up I think we draw even against. I have confidence those 2 can do OK against Donald.

If Donald lines up or stunts over center/LG, we might have a problem, Houston.

I’m too lazy or disinterested to see where Donald usually lines up. I guess we’ll see soon.

  39. Craig Says:

Might as well throw a monkey into the works and start Trask.

It will give Brady a few extra days to rest his shoulder and his worried mind.

  40. Bobby Says:

Season is over, Bucs management knows it. Deep down Brady knows it, most of team knows it, us fans know it. That’s why they didn’t make any trades at the deadline to fix some of the glaring needs on this roster. There preparing for the off-season already. I suspect Brady may be practicing his tv analyst duties in preparation for his Fox job next season. I bet we are going to hear some interesting and weird behind the scenes stories from players and Bucs officials as to why things unraveled at one buc this season. I’m a second generation Bucs fan. My dad went to every home game from 1976-2010. I’ve been to many games prior 2010 and every game since 2010. The fact that us fans were lead to believe by the team and media that this season was one more chance at a another Super Bowl. With all the salary cap cans that were kicked down the road to be in contention for a Super Bowl. And then to watch this team emotionally giving up and limping through these games. And the fact that you don’t see Arians coming back or any significant changes to make things better. All that combined makes this one of the saddest seasons I’ve ever seen in Bucs history. I’ll make a predictions, I predict Devin White may be moved in off-season. And I want to know, what is Jason licht doing to fix this garbage we are witnessing??He is not without blame either here. There are going to whole-sale changes this off-season.

  41. D-Rok Says:

I assume that with the contract extension, Darden ALSO gets a Super Mario power-up? If so, he gonna ball out in beastly fashion the rest of the season. Or am I being, again, too optimistic?

    (Sarcasm, guys, sarcasm)

  42. D-Rok Says:

Wonder what message the Falcons are sending by trading Ridley to the Jags?

Julio, Gage, Ridley, all gone. Pitts and Patterson are all they have left. Oh, and Mariota. That guy is good.

  43. garbs65 Says:

Bucs always seem to be the cure for the other teams ills. No offense? They’ll find it against a porous defense. Can’t stop the run? They will. Can’t defend the pass? Guess what, they suddenly find Richard Sherman in his prime covering all our receivers. idk. I hope the Bucs find themselves this week. I want the game over by the 3rd qtr. Go Bucs!

  44. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Someone wake JL up !!!! You mean to tell me Kareem Hunt and others are available and they ain’t doing anything?? Wow they have given up on this season

  45. D-Rok Says:

We could have benefitted from a trade for a good TE or a good Edge or a good Guard.

As Rod has alluded to, doesn’t sound like we have any way to sign, well, anybody, but geez DO SOMETHING to give this team a spark.

    Anything less would be uncivilized.

  46. Goatfarmer Says:

Don’t worry. Bowels without Shaq, Ryan, Carlton, Suh and JPP will lead the Diva White quitting Bucs defense to make these Rams look like the Greatest Show on Turf.

    No changes today. Nothing.

The strategy apparently is hope even though no one on Toad’s defenseless bunch knows a run fit or a zone coverage.

Set fire to all of it.

  47. Vern Says:

I will believe it when I see it. The Rams own the BUCS, they will start out running the ball to see if the BUCS can stop it, then they will mix in the pass. The BUCS has to show me they are ready to defend their Turf.

  48. BucU Says:

None of those free agents are gonna help this train wreck of a season. Our coaches suck and our players suck or are injured.

  49. BucsFan81 Says:

Why have we not started trading what players we have that are worth something. Let’s be honest this dumpster fire is only going to get worse. Most of the players on this team have already packed it in. We should be playing for draft picks at this point.

  50. D-Rok Says:

Mike Tannenbaum just said GO SIGN GRONK. We need a good TE. Mike said, “If Gronk wants to only practice 1 day a week, sign him. If Gronk only wants to play on 3rd down and red zone, sign him. Bucs need a spark – sign Gronk.”

Oh, I wish we would sign Gronk, or Suh.

  51. Goatfarmer Says:

D-Rok – sadly with the coiching staph the Bucs have now it wouldn’t matter. Gronk isn’t coming back to get coated in the Bowelswich feces. Ain’t happening. Licht could offer him $20 million and Gronk would just laugh.

  52. D-Rok Says:

I know, Goat, I know – you are right. Can’t a fan have wishes and dreams, tho?

  53. Leopold Stotch Says:

    What a shame

  54. D-Rok Says:

But Goat, if Gronk came back (in playing shape), him and Brady would take over games. They’ve done it more than a few times in the past.

  55. D-Rok Says:

Hines from Colts to Bills. Decent RB, good receiver, good returner. WTF.

  56. unbelievable Says:

The Rams will look like the Super Bowl champions this Sunday.

You can effin bet on that!

  57. D-Rok Says:

1 minute left on OUR season, bro’s.

  58. Hodad Says:

We seem to make bad teams look good. The Rams are feeling the SB hangover. I think we still are too. Us, like them, seem to want it less than our opponents who play us like it’s their SB. Let’s see who wants it more Sunday for two teams that are circling the drain. The two last Lombardi winners trying to save their seasons against each other. Let’s see who wants it more.

  59. Goatfarmer Says:

    Dolphins get Bradley Chubb.

    Nice job Jason.

  60. HC Grover Says:

Maybe they can find someone in the PUNT, pass, and KICK GAMES.

  61. D-Rok Says:

Hodad, you wanna know what The Brady Effect is? How about last year? He kept the team mostly together and playing OK for most of the year.

This year? That SB hangover is in full effect, and even the mighty Brady can’t overcome all that and horrible coaching.

IF this team can be competitive later in the season, KUDOS! I don’t see it happening, and I’m an optimist.

  62. Goatfarmer Says:

D-Rok I would normally agree about the Brady Gronk tandem but somehow Bowelswich have these guys wanting to be anywhere other than a field on Sundays. Soft unphysical quitters – that and the Brain Dead Boob calling plays. Can’t fix stupid. Not even Gronk would help that problem.

  63. Goatfarmer Says:

Lions traded Hockinson! You know, the tight end.

    Nice job, Jason.

  64. D-Rok Says:

    Goat,

The only way to fix stupid is circumvent it.

Brady: “Oh, you called a 21 dive? Naw. Gronk, go get the 30-yard seam.”

Gronk: “Hee, hee, OK buddy. I got you.”

30 yard pass completed. BL looks as mystified as ever, yet he won’t say nuffin to Brady or Gronk.

I say, SOMEBODY must take over this team. Not sure who it will be, but to avoid a losing season, with all this talent on paper, somebody gotta want it.

    Who’s it gonna be?

  65. Crickett Baker Says:

Loved the line, “inexcusable ineptitude”. Good description. I, personally have not seen enough from Darden to have even a bit of faith in him. And Vea is part of Goedecke’s seemingly worthlessness. This game will have mostly new players in it on our team. I hope we come up with something besides excuses. I am so sick of hearing “We all need to do better”.

  66. HC Grover Says:

BOWles returns to the scene of the Blunder.

  67. Arn platz Says:

Players were available on both sides of the trenches and Licht did nothing!
Have to admire the colts, they just fired their OC, wish we would

  68. Bucfan Says:

Glad the Bucs did not make a trade. This season is toast so they need the picks for the re-tooling next year. Perhaps trade a few picks to the aints for Peyton as coach.

  69. Francisco Guzman Says:

The bucs will rolled with this coaching staff. Unreal. Probably by the time they make a change they will be out of the playoff spot.

  70. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bucfan they should have put brady on the market and see what interest teams might have. They’re not making any changes to this coaching staff.

  71. D-Rok Says:

Brady? Brady, Guzman? He’s the one competent player on this squad.

  72. Pewter Power Says:

Trade deadline has come and gone and at 3-5 Licht says we’re good and why? It’s one thing to be bad but another thing entirely to be bad and in salary cap hell. He couldn’t afford to make moves

  73. Redeemer Says:

Yesterday was a tell. The deadline for eating money was Monday. Any trade today would’ve meant the bucs eating the entire remaining money. It’s a stupid rule and I hate it. Teams should be able to negotiate money until the actual deadline.

  74. csidedave Says:

If we will have another good first quarter like we had against the Bills then I will go home.

  75. adam from ny Says:

“Vita Vea came into this season in his best shape ever.”
    WTF??

“Devin White played a very good game (vs. Balt) overall.”
    WTF?????

  79. Thadeus Says:

Need serious changes in the coaching staff. From the top down. BA, are you still available ?

  83. Colonel Angus Says:

Unfortunately, the Bucs are the “get right” team. Look for the Rams offense to “get right” this Sunday.

  84. Goatfarmer Says:

This goes down in history as the most underachieving team of all time. Congrats Bowelswich, that will look awesome on your retirement appears — I mean resume’s.

  85. RSJCheapSeats Says:

We are in cap hell – there was no help coming.

Brady needs to play like Brady. He isn’t.

    And that is the problem.

  86. PassingThru Says:

Let’s see if Bowles is stupid enough to blitz Stafford if the game is on the line.

  87. The Big Sombrero Says:

    Sean Payton 2023!!!!

  88. steele Says:

This was supposed to be THE game. The revenge, the payback.

Instead, a meeting of two badly compromised teams looking at the season being over already.

The Rams were exposed by the 49ers, and any team that can duplicate that blueprint has their necks. But the depleted Bucs? I doubt it.

And the Rams still have the blueprint to beat the Bucs. Who were, hello, outcoached in that playoff loss. It’s still Bowles and Leftwich, no smarter than last time. What answers do the Bucs have for Aaron Donald and Cooper Kupp (who is going to play, gimpy ankle or not)?

It took Brady heroics to almost win, and just a few minutes for Bowles to lose it miserably. That was with JPP and Suh, still making plays, and an intact OL. You think Leverett/Hainsey is going to stone the Rams pass rush? You think Devin White and these corners can shut down Kupp and Co, and JTS will put Stafford on the turf (after being ridden 20 yards downfield)?

  89. Goatfarmer Says:

Any offense on the field against Bowelswich automatically becomes the best offense in the NFL.

  90. Goatfarmer Says:

The game will be on the line the Rams first offensive series. Then it will be over.

Rams TD, a Leftwurst 3 and out, big Rams punt return, Diva is on his phone trying to find his $100 million contract.

  91. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

If Bowles wants to help QB Matthew Stafford and the LA offense get on track, he should just dial up the zero-blitz on every 3rd-and-long.

    Pay Suh, Pay Gronk. Period.
