X-Factor Against The Ravens

October 27th, 2022

Ravens receiver/returner Devin Duvernay

Joe will assume for a moment that the Bucs somewhat resemble a competitive football team tonight against Baltimore.

If so, an element to this game is shaping up to be critical: special teams.

The Ravens are damn good on special teams. The Bucs are not when it comes to returns and covering them.

Joe watched Sunday’s Ravens-Browns game and below is a CBS screenshot that popped up early in the game (not including Ravens receiver/returner Devin Duvernay’s 46-yard punt return on Sunday).

Yes, the Ravens will burn you big-time if you’re not covering kicks well. The Bucs will be without two of their better cover guys in injured special teams ace linebacker K.J. Britt and cornerback Carlton Davis.

If the Bucs win the coin toss tonight, Joe would like to see the team take the ball. First, the offense needs all the help it can muster to get an early lead and finally score a first-quarter touchdown. Second, Joe would hate to see an early coverage fail on special teams have “the life got out of us.”

Every player on the ravens team is an X-factor against the Bucs tonight

  2. DG060 Says:

Ahhh the Bucs special teams. Another area where we are just plain pitiful.
Jaelon Darden is a complete utter bust. He’s that bad. He should of NEVER made the final roster. Awful decision.
After we lose tonight we’ll see what the front office does about it. There are others that should lose their job as well. Another loss might speed up the process of holding someone, ANY one accountable.

  3. Steven007 Says:

The prospect of going four and four while heading into a mini bye should be tantalizing to this team. Should be. After 2 weeks of mind numbing incompetence it would be nice to see something close to a complete game tonight. I am always optimistic, but realistic as well. I am Missouri tonight. Show me.

COACHING!!! Every Bucs fan can see the only bright light on ST’s is the punter. The ST’s have been horrid even in 2020. I can’t believe I am writing this, I miss Mickens. How can Bowels NOT address this??? Get rid.of these guys at least if the Bucs.go down, they go down fighting with a coach that can lead.

  5. BucsfanFred Says:

I’m gonna watch the game, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

  6. HC Grover Says:

Darden running for his life for the sideline is not too special.

  7. Buc4evr Says:

Getting the ball first does not matter. Brady always goes three and out in the first possession. He can’t connect in the early part of games. The pathetic Bucs are just going to show up to get slaughtered. No chance. Jason has built a team that relies on rookies and worthless free agents. Thank goodness I don’t have Amazon Prime.

  8. Chuckstutz Says:

    Darden runs to the left,two steps,slips falls,fumbles.

  9. Listnfrmafar Says:

Buc4@ it’s hard to get an offense going when you run up the middle the first series of EVERY game.

  10. Buc4evr Says:

@Listn. So true! Then Brady misses his receivers on the next two plays. 3 and out every time. I’m more down on Jason then the players. He put together a soft brittle team that relies on marginal players, washed up FAs, and Rookies. The roster was sabotaged .

  11. PSL Bob Says:

Succop needs to kick it through the end zone on kickoffs and Comarda needs to kick it deep out of bounds on punts. Surely the ST coaches have seen the same stats you posted. Hopefully they’ve stressed the importance of not giving the crows an opportunity for big returns.

  12. Joey Strom Says:

Devin White needs to show up ready to play tonight. If he continues to be out of position and miss tackles it’s going to be another long night. It would be nice to see Shaq Barrett show up tonight as well.
Offensively, it would be nice to see them get the ball first and run the no-huddle right down the field for a quick TD. Set the damn tone early! Get the momentum and the home crowd into it right away.

    PSL Bob

    Camarda does our kickoffs also….

As far as winning the coin toss……I think we’ve won 1 of 7…..

  14. D Says:

I thought Rachaad Whites fumble on the opening kick off against the Chiefs “sucked the life out of them?” Sounds like they are in a quandary in terms of the coin toss results… Maybe they should just forfeit the game or all go see some psychologists!?

  15. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

First offensive play… Lenny runs left for 1 yard.

  16. Browsing from DC via MA Says:

What TBBF said but yes, PSL Bob is on the money with that strategy to make those stats moot.

I’d live to see a more wide-open offense and I when we do run the ball, get Ko in the backfield again to lead block and run RIGHT. You know, where Wirfs and Mason are.

I’m also “hoping” to see Brady more active in calling audibles if he doesn’t like what he sees. Even if it’s changing a run from left to right side.

I have hope for tonight but not a lot

  17. Scooter Says:

Harbaugh was the Eagle’s special teams coach at one time. Ravens rarely have 3 Receivers on the field at the same time. Currently Bucs are last in the league at offensive line Pass blocking win ratio( no Marpet,no Jensen,no Gronk ) and last in the league in rushing.I don’t see a burst in Lenny. Evans gets double teamed a lot and Godwin( reconstructed knee ) when healthy had average speed. No Brate,Gage, or Gio to pass to tonite. Start throwing to Otten more. Clearly the defensive line without a Hicks or Suh next to Vea is a downgrade.Team misses Jensen and Suh’s nasty edge. Bucs don’t have a Andy Reid or Shanahan scheming offensive plays. Brady loves to throw between the numbers. I want to see Julio’s ass on the field tonite, I don’t care if he doesn’t play the rest of the season. The bloodletting must stop tonite.

  18. Cobraboy Says:

The Bucs and Leftwich will surprise a lot of people tonight.

    They might score 10 points.

  19. orlbucfan Says:

What X-factor? Brady getting carted off the field with his neck broken?

  20. Ben Harvey Says:

    Barrett is invisible. LFG

  21. HC Grover Says:

I will be listen on radio. Will still call the game here as the Prevent

game plan develops and enjoy the JBF coments

  22. orlbucfan Says:

HC Grover, devoted Bucs Radio fan here.🙂👍 I can also access Amazon, but prefer my homies. Trying to talk myself into it.

  23. John F Ensch Says:

I can’t wait to see how bad the Ravens will beat the Bucs. All the NFL knows how bad the Bucs offensive line is and that makes it easy for pass rush to get to obviously over the hill Tom Brady. Then there is the cowardly defense that couldn’t stop a high school football team from fear of getting hurt. No I don’t watch them play, it’s to embarrassing.

  24. PassingThru Says:

I’m an Amazon Prime subscriber, but I anticipate watching this game with apprehension. This team is an underdog tonight after having lost 4 of the last 5 games. If that doesn’t fire them up then they are truly lost.

  25. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Great news; Some of the experts think, the Bucs might score more than a field goal tonight.
