“I Seen The Life Go Out Of Us”

October 23rd, 2022

Mike Evans

Welcome to 2015.

Allow Joe to flash you back to the first defensive snap of that season and the insane comment by Lavonte David after that game — and to what Mike Evans said this afternoon.

On that 2015 snap against the miserable Titans and rookie Marcus Mariota, then-Bucs safety Major Wright was called for a personal foul that appeared to simply be a physical hit on an incompletion to a Titans running back out of the backfield.

The next day, David told the Buccaneers Radio Network that the penalty broke the Bucs’ mentally and it affected them all game.

“We played a little passive after that first play,” David said. “I think after that penalty, kinda like killed our momentum. Because we wanted to come out and be physical, and that was the statement of the game there.

“Major coming out being physical. After that happened he got the flag, ‘We were like, oh, man. We can’t, you know, come out and do what we wanted to do.’

“We kind of let that get to us a little bit. We can’t let that affect us, you know. Every time we’re on the field, we gotta be the most dominating, be the most physical. Obviously, that wasn’t the case.”

Joe was stunned. David had a day to think about the loss and came away telling the world a bad call on the opening snap, one that didn’t even lead to a touchdown, screwed up the mentality of the team.

Enter Mike Evans today.

An @GregAuman Twitter video from the Bucs’ locker room after the groin-stomp, blowout loss to the Panthers shows Evans reflecting on his bad drop of a touchdown pass on the Bucs’ opening drive.

Evans claims the drop shook the team and himself for far more than one play.

“You know, I seen the life go out of us,” Evans said. “It took me a while to get back playing. You know, we’re taught to play the next play, but it’s tough.”

Joe is speechless. It was the opening drive against the crapass Panthers. And that play broke Evans and the Bucs enough to be a major reason they lost, as Evans also said?

Joe is going to need medication.

The team has no heart whatsoever!

  2. T REX Says:

    Evans is NOT a HOF’er

    He won’t get in

    Book it.

Bowels sounds totally defeated in the post game.

He doesn’t believe a word he is saying

  3. RuKa_44 Says:

Just like in 2015, this is a reflection of the mentality of the coaching staff… Coaches with the right mentality instill a winning culture every single day, no one will even think on saying such things!!!

  4. Rod Munch Says:

I wonder if I can get some super cheap club seats for Thursday night? Should be plenty available.

  5. LakelandSteve Says:

WTF, these guys are supposed to be professionals. That’s a hell of a statement by Evans.

  6. BUCkleup Says:

    Evans is a HOFer.

    We suck.

  7. Dirty Bucs Says:

    WTF Mike?

I went to the game today with a couple of friends from Charlotte. They were all saying they were just looking forward to the good weather, because they expected to lose by 20 or more. Before the game started, I said look Tampa isn’t playing well right now. This isn’t a foregone conclusion.

Imagine my shock when Tampa played like they have absolutely no heart. Right about now this team looks like a bunch of entitled players who aren’t earning it.

  8. Bucsfan13 Says:

    Brady’s fault!

  9. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

    – Suh
    – JPP
    – Marpet
    – Jensen
    – Kappa
    – Gronk

Much of the Heart of this team is either at home on the couch or making plays elsewhere!

  11. Howard Cosell Says:

Start the rebuild and the QB search.
NO way in hell Brady returns to this team.

  12. Gman Says:

ME13 is so mentally soft..probably blames Lattimore for that drop. He is so overrated by the ignorant fan base. Catch a ball and fall down is his signature move….when he actually catches it.

  13. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Bring in Kanye to coach this team !!!

  14. HC Grover Says:

    I wanna be sedated

  15. Flhillbilly61 Says:

Soft Coach! To be politically correct, just a Bunch of sissies out there!

  16. Francisco Guzman Says:

Again this team takes the personality of their head coach. Fire Bowles! Ughhh

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    What life?

  18. Bucsfanatic Says:

Our first offensive play of the game sucked the life out of me After all the talk of how we run between venter and left guard all week BL gives a middle finger to us fans The team got outplayed The defenses know our tendencies Our defense looks weak Barret and #9 look like JV

On to the Ravens and hopefully a miracle

  19. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Totally agree for one year he didn’t catch and go right to the sideline !!! Then we pay Godwin ( who’s made of glass ) a fortune , Shaq and Vea who are soooo bad, but good for them for getting that bag !! There’s a reason this organization has been the laughing stock for 30 plus years, but when this thing called Covid ( the silent killer ) destroyed everything and the NFL was having to deal with the Wokes as well what happened .. just like most retired NFL players say “
The NFL is fixed “ and it needed a story to avoid all the BS America had to deal with .. The won on TB12s first year against a team that could destroy us any day of the week ?? 😂. Wake up people !!

  20. CrackWise Says:

According to Rod Munch, Meth is the proper meds because the truth is.

The NFL is rigged, Mike only catches that pass IF he was paid to.

BUT WAIT CrackWise, “he is paid to play the game and catching the ball is what he is paid to do!”

Is it really what he is PAID TO DO? Com on Man!!!

Get with it, if we all got paid according to our skills. The Highest paid civilians on EARTH would be paramedics.

  21. Rand Says:

We may not win another game until after our buy. With the Ravens up next and then the Seahawks in Europe, you know they’ll get up to play us. With a loss today it’s a surefire uphill battle.

  22. Thisisouryear!! Says:

It’s not Brady. I don’t get it why we our receivers can’t create space between the defenders. All other teams seem to. Why can’t we? We miss Gronk terribly.

  23. Stephen Rohrs Says:

Knock it off you bunch of spoiled fans! Your 3-4 in a bad division with injuries and a 17 game season. Yeah I agree this is not the same team in weeks 1&2 but really? Your willing to get rid of the QB and coaches that gave you a Super Bowl 2 years removed? What makes you think the season is a wash after 7 games and a shortened preseason? Bunch of bandwagons! BTW , I think I remember Ira saying Vinny Testrevede Trent Dilfer were going to be the the QBs to bring a Super Bowl to Tampa. Well it was Brad Johnson and Tom Brady. I’ve forgot more Bucs football than Ira knows. He just has a platform!

  24. Howard Cosell Says:

Given the performance of this team and the rise of gambling it is certainly plausible that games are being thrown by players.

  25. Yucs2Bucs Says:

    Make America Great AGAIN !!!!!

  26. Deeez NATZ Says:

    Brady GOT VACCINATED, nuff said!

  27. Tiny Dungy Says:

    BA

  28. Rand Says:

Ravens, Rams, and then the Seahawks in Germany

  29. Howard Cosell Says:

    @ Stephen
Howard does not want to get rid of Brady at all.
The problem is that Brady will want to get rid of the Bucs, unless he’s insane.
As far as the coaches: Bowles is a good DC but a horrible HC and Lefty is good when Brady has a good oline.
This oline is torpedoing the whole franchise.
Howard doesn’t even think Jensen’s return would help at this point

  30. GUS Says:

We need someone with some fire! TODD MUST GO

  31. CrackWise Says:

NOTICE, Gronk is cashing in on his WWF, Im mean FOX contract.

    Brady is doing the same.

Hey Joe, who was it that did a “Drama Sells” article this preseason?

Wonder how well the Bucs Drama is Selling for the NFL.

    FOLLOW THE MONEY!!!

  32. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Sources tell NFL Network that #Buccaneers QB Tom Brady is absolutely beside himself in the locker room right now. He just yelled, “I GAVE UP MY FAMILY FOR THIS?” then threw a chair in a fit of rage, which hit a ball boy. The ball boy is unconscious. Oh my goodness. I’m done

  33. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Mike, repeat after me, “I SAW the life go out of us.”

  34. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Lastly anyone that doesn’t think the NFL isn’t rigged also believes JB is doing a great job and our country isn’t a laughing stock !!! @crackwise I’ve been saying this all along, but these coaches just want to talk about what they see on tv and play GMs.. I’m effen over it and Joe gets paid to talk about the Bucs and doesn’t want to ruin his career or get labeled by the Wokes

  35. Dreambig Says:

Let’s take this back to the beginning of BAs retirement announcement. I have been a corporate manager/leader for over 20 years. I have hired dozens of people. Based on Bowles resume, what could possibly have lead Licht to have pulled that trigger to hire him for the position of head coach in the first place? Was it based on merit or was it based on being on the right side of the current political landscape? People love to dismiss his failures as bad choices of a bad Jets front office. I don’t buy it, he was an integral part of that staff. If your a smart, strategic coach, you find a way to win at least half your games. The executives at One Buc knew this too. Somewhere there is a 5 year strategic roadmap and this year was a short term bandaid hoping for the best. It sucks for us fans.

  36. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Yucs2Bucs, what do you think of the Alex Jones verdict? Seems you love conspiracy theories…..

  37. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Guzman, Rod Munch I agree with some of your takes, but you guys need to wake up. The NFL and others want this to happen and look at all the players ( even a Buc ) say this league is rigged. Why would they say that ?? It’s true and I know Joe loves all the comments, but it’s time to open your eyes to bigger things going on . They lost to a 1 and 5 team and weird how all the NY teams are doing amazing .. Follow the narrative and money !!!

  38. CrackWise Says:

    Yucs2Bucs

I am with ya, just use a little more “TAC” and lets try not to murder everyone’s bliss in the process.

Second though, WAKE THESE FOOLS UP.

This GAME RIGGED and IS only as fun as WWF…. CAN YOU SMEEEEEEEEEELL what the Rock is cooking…..

    OH YEAH “BABE”.

At least the FANS off the WWF KNOW its Fake!!!

I mean, thats why I enjoy the NFL still, BECAUSE I KNOW IT IS FAKE AS F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Alvin I’m a Dad and not about talking about school shootings or tragedies, but definitely open to talking about this narrative of the NFL and other sports being fixed

  40. sasquatch Says:

Hey Yucs2Bucs, make fascism great again, eh?

  41. Davenport Says:

That is why you need coaching – do you think any winning coach would allow a player/team to shrivel up as soon as something doesn’t go right?

Poor Todd. He just can’t do the job.

  42. BucU Says:

The Glazers would have to pay me to go to a game at this point. Free tickets u say?
    Nah. Thanks for askin.

  43. Yucs2Bucs Says:

You think saying the NFL is fixed and now believing in Fascism ? Seriously and no wonder this country is Fd up. Do you know what that sheet is ? It’s is a far-right, authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology and movement, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation and race … and saying the NFL is fixed brings that out 😳 WOW

  44. Pelsbuc61 Says:

First it was D. White talking about getting bored and now Evans (who’s always reliable for a crucial drop). The mark of a very mentally weak and undisciplined team.

  45. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Sasquatch you better be native using that name if not be careful especially in todays world 😳

  46. BUCkleup Says:

    Not watching this garbage anymore.

They are stealing time and money.

Enjoy the time with your family or donate to the community. They won’t choke like this S&’t group of losers.

  47. Yucs2Bucs Says:

@Crackwise do you see what these two weirdos just said ? All because NFL players and fans think the same ? Wow

  48. Bucsfan13 Says:

Baltimore game is gonna be a hoot fellas

  56. bucs4life Says:

You guys watching that 49ers vs Chiefs matchup?

Reid-Bienemy vs Shanahan and Foerster-Slowik. Prime designs. Prime execution. Great game to watch. If only we had coaches like that for our stellar team (on paper).

  57. Dave Says:

At this point it IS a team psychology issue. Coaching and leaders set the mindset. We need a Sala (Jets coach) mentality – taking receipts of the people who don’t believe in us!

  58. CrackWise Says:

    Yucs2Bucs

    FOR REAL THOUGH!!!!

LMAO, enjoy the game, I have a feeling the Bucs will put up huge numbers.

I am talking about, at least a Touchdown!!!

  59. Listnfrmafar Says:

Just turn on the KC/49er game and watch the offensive and D game plans. Bowels is a child. KC ran a delayed reverse banking on Boza over pursing the QB, worked to perfection. Bucs coaches ate POSERS, I really believe the player are sabotaging them they are so bad. If a player is deflated after the first play, that’s coaching.

  60. PassingThru Says:

I see the crazies have taken over.

  61. Tom Sumner Says:

    ……………………………..

  62. JimmyfromNY Says:

Way to be mentally tough Mike. Most Bucs fans only care about his ridiculous thousand yard seasons record. Never seen a receiver gimpy after every play like you ,either going down or right for the sidelines, two or three times today after that embarrassing drop he had easy plays to turn up field to make a play and went right out of bounds.

  63. Yucs2Bucs Says:

@crackwise that won’t come till the 4th after the boys are down 28, but did you just see Justin Watson ( ex Buc ) with the Tuddie !!! Wow so refreshing seeing competitive football again

  64. CrackWise Says:

    PassingThru

The Crazies took over weeks ago, Post after Post calling for this team to fire everyone.

Seriously, you belong to that group of crazies as you are just as guilty for HATING on this team.

IF YOU ARE A REAL FAN, you find ways to be optimistic NO MATTER WHAT.

Thats why I have decided to go the route of this game being RIGGED!!! Plus I know it is true in general.

I will not BASH MY TEAM before I call out the FACTS about this game being RIGGED.

Facts are FACTS…. Been saying it since Bert Emanuel

  65. Rod Munch Says:

CrackWise – These games are as legit as the 2020 election. I’m still p/o about the 1999 NFL season NFL Championship game where they claimed Bert didn’t catch that pass. It’s complete BS, such a BS call they had to change the rules because of it to cover up for the rigged call.

BUT, with that said, why would they be rigging a game so the awful, boring, dullard Carolina Panthers win over the TV draw Brady?

  66. I’m not tired anymore we just won the Super Bowl!! Says:

Excuses are for losers! You multi million dollar pansies! Get your arses to work and quit talking! I’m over it! You suck at your job! Get it together will ya! Go Bucs!

  67. Yucs2Bucs Says:

@crackwise unfortunately that TD will come in the 4th when we are 28 down ?? Lmao, but Go Bucs

  71. Yucs2Bucs Says:

@rodmumch I got tickets and that loss will make the Bucs supposed comeback and story look better ? I think gambling plays a huge part In sports positive, but mostly negatively. I would love to see all the money made on peeps who took the Panthers. Also I don’t see the storybook ending happening because they have way too many problems on D dense

  72. Howard Cosell Says:

    Very sad.
The NFL was fun while it lasted

  73. Bucsfan13 Says:

Packers are imploding, too. Aaron has no problem people out. He and Tom’s seasons have been virtually the same. Bad OL and questionable coaching. Aaron calls out coaching all the time. Rodgers had some missed throws, but he’s not getting nearly the hate that Brady has for missing throws. Rodgers has been on a podcast tour. Is he not all-in?

  74. Yucs2Bucs Says:

    @howard totally agree

  75. Your Mom Says:

    Absentee coaching

  76. Frank Pillow Says:

There’s nothing crazy about calling this what it is—a high school caliber game plan executed by a bunch of guys got paid and who’d rather be doing anything other than playing football. There’s no coming back from this loss.

  77. alton d green Says:

you nailed it Gus. Let me help some of you that make things way too complicated.
Brady comes to Tampa and we win a SB. He has BA as coach. He also had Mike Evans, Lenny, Chris, Scotty, etc etc
The next year we lose the NFC Champ game because Bowles is too dumb to know to double the league MVP

Here’s the best part. We don’t have BA, we have Todd. we also have Mike evans, lenny, chris, scotty etc etc. Is the blame a littler clearer???????

  78. SB~LV Says:

    Hospice

  79. Rod Munch Says:

Alright, I’ll jump on the RIGGED bandwagon.

The Bucs, even with these awful loses, are still in 1st. So clearly the big money is betting against the Bucs, knowing the public with go with Brady and the Bucs.

    I’m in…

  83. Bojim Says:

Deez. Brady got vaccinated? No fricken wonder. Oh yeah, you are a dork.

  84. SB~LV Says:

They only controlled ONE game this year, the second I believe. All others were close wins and of course the loses and today’s implosion!

  85. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    CrackWise Says
“IF YOU ARE A REAL FAN, you find ways to be optimistic NO MATTER WHAT. ”

    WRONG.

A true fan doesn’t have to be optimistic. Just loyal.

There is such a thing as blind optimism.

Now personally, I hate negativity…but I did something today I never thought I would do. I turned a bucs game off. I have never done that, not even during the first two years.

But I’m older now, and I have to watch my blood pressure. And seeing Brady have to put up with a bad team…it’s just too much to ask.

On his worst day, Brady is much better than half the QBs in the league. On his average days, he is top 5.

This isn’t about Brady, this is about the coaching staff and players. It;s about injuries too.

The good players have been trying to get it done, putting their bodies on the line. At this point, tanking might have to be considered, unless the Bucs can suddenly turn things around.

I would be surprised if Arians took over if Bowles is fired…but we need to do something. At this point, firing Bowles and Leftwich are a given. It’s just a matter of when.

If Arians comes back, he can take over play calling too.

It may be that it is too late anyway. The injuries have piled up, and going forward, I don’t expect the backups to suddenly shine.

I don’t like the idea of tanking…and certainly Tom Brady would not accept it…but do we really have a choice? We might be leading the division right now, but it won’t stay that way. We are not the best team in this division. Not even second best.

  86. SB~LV Says:

Brady could be a NFL tv talking head tonight and a happy wife … high drama.
It is time for a serious shake up within OBP , BA to the sidelines and Bowles to DC… shut up and not a word of complaint unless you are quitting. Have a major review of the season and what is best for next year.

  87. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

SB~LV, I don’t ever remember seeing a team demote a head coach to coordinator. If Arians comes in, it’s because Bowles is fired…and he may refuse if that happens.

  88. FortMyersDave Says:

Fire Leftwich if the offense scores under 10 in the first half against a medicore Raven squad.

  89. FortMyersDave Says:

Bonzai, lets see what happens, I have been all over Lefwich for the failure but perhaps Toilet Bowels is the prob…… You may be on to something that could happen after the Bucs lose to the Ravens on National TV and the Glazers have to save face if /when they lose 30-3 …..

The Bucs put Brady in a spot where he was going to have to play near perfect on just about every snap.

He hasn’t done so. And based on what I’m seeing on this board, most people are more than happy to blame him for not living up to those unreasonable expectations.

  92. Swanee Says:

Of course Bowles was not a hire that should of happened in the spring. This has been a complete failure thus far. This decision falls on the GM, BA and the owners who agreed with this within the meeting. The owners have no business making the hire after reviewing his head coaching resume. The owners absolutely should be questioned and an inquiry is necessary. The term used “Foreseeable” fits perfectly in this poor decision of seen leaders in Tampa Bay community. I wish Coach Bowles the best in the future, but a playoff game or a run in the post session is absolutely not “Foreseeable.” I don’t expect a change in leadership anytime soon, however this will get much worse. It can be saved, but knowing ownership, do to fear and anxiety the organization will resist change.

Absolutely dude. He is my football hero, but he cannot play perfectly every play every drive every game. He cannot carry grown men who fall apart after a dropped pass or getting yelled at on the sideline.

Unfortunately, this season makes me really miss Belichick. I did not want to say that but there it is. And Gronk cant fix this. Its a coaches thing.

  100. TB12 FOR PREZ Says:

Brady has scored 3 points or less 5 times in his career. 2 times in 20 years with the patriots. 3 times in 3 years with Bucs. Does that tell you anything about coaching?

  101. Lenne Gilzow Says:

He shouldnt have changed his approach because of the suspension.
    Plain and simple.

  102. Bucsfan13 Says:

I will keep saying this until some fans get it through their thick skulls. This team is DEAD last in rushing. This is a huge problem. It’s been that way since training camp. It was malpractice by this organization to put two inexperienced OL on the field. Even worse to start Goedeke. Licht’s hubris is disgusting. “His guys”

  103. JimmyfromNY Says:

He was also in his mid 40s with the Buccaneers in his prime with the Patriots. Bill Belichick has done absolutely nothing without Tom Brady he’s well over 500 and over 150 games coaching. The Bucs issues are many Brady is last on that list. Horrific playcalling poor execution by the wide receivers and terrible off line play

  104. JimmyfromNY Says:

    Sorry well under .500

  105. Bucsfan13 Says:

    LOL!

  108. Bucsfan13 Says:

Tua is getting the ball out in under two seconds and his receivers are open! That’s play design.

  109. Bucamania Says:

This team is so fragile. Bunch of snowflakes. Miss having dawgs like JPP, Gronk, and Suh.

sasquatch – Calm down lady, I was just having some fun with you. Anywho, enjoy your beating on Nov 8. LOL!

  112. Bucsfan13 Says:

Hill and Waddle are so explosive.

  113. steele Says:

Do you guys remember Brady’s press conference last season after a loss in which he said, “We’re fighters. We have fighters on this team.”

WHERE ARE THEY NOW???? This whining surrender is so woke.

This fragile wussy wimp loser mentality spreading like wildfire under Bowles is why they will keep losing until they somehow fix it. It may take drastic measures.

  114. dbbuc711 Says:

No way does a player say this if BA is still in charge.

  115. Bucsfan13 Says:

Where’s the loon who said Tua was better than Brady.

  116. Bucsfan13 Says:

Why are we choosing Julio out? There will be no January run the way it’s going right now.

  117. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard has to reiterate that, looking across the league,
if these games ARE fixed then it’s GOLD MINE for whoever fixed them.

    Packers lose
    Bucs lose
    Rams lose
    Jets win

Howard’s not saying they are fixed, but it sure does smell odd arounf the NFL right now

Great point. Fixing aside, this team is in chaos and we’re seeing why the Jets fired Bowles. Maybe the league isn’t fixed and the Jets are just THAT much better without Bowles?

  119. Natron Says:

Yeah, that is a shocking comment coming from a player of his caliber

  120. Bucsfan13 Says:

Dead last in rushing! Questions need to be asked about this anemic running game.

Have you watched any of Leftwich’s press conferences? How about last week?

  122. T REX Says:

Joe…per od and his political posts

Can we please reel it in?

Bad enough every commercial are these idiots

  123. ClwJB Says:

This team is toast in 2022

The future looks bleak for the next 2-3 years

  124. ClwJB Says:

Glad they didn’t charge us for playoff deposits yet!!!! Maybe another team will need our field LOL

  125. captivajim Says:

we could easily have 7 losses by the break after the seattle game …..

  126. MarkR Says:

The OL doesn’t block well enough for us to break runs, or long enough for us to pass long.
The receivers (except for Godwin) don’t get open, and when they do they tend to drop passes. The tight ends are invisible, the whole team is lifeless and passive.
And the coach has absolutely no clue on how to improve anything even a little bit. Instead, he gives us stupid platitudes like “we need to improve” or ” we must play harder”
To the front office: FIRE BOWLES NOW. Bring back Gronk and Suh (if he is still available) DO SOMETHING to show your loyal fans you still care.

  127. Phred Says:

I thought of the exact same play. Bowles needs to show this clip to the team this week: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4PE2hSqVnk

  128. Bucsfanman Says:

That play doesn’t change the game, IMO, and if these players are that mentally soft after ONE play we have some serious problems.

Why waste your time coming here to insult Joe and make things up about Joe? This was Mike Evans speaking on video for all to see, has nothing to do with a reporter.–Joe
