Shaq Barrett May Not Play At Pittsburgh

October 15th, 2022

Bucs OLB Shaq Barrett.

The Bucs added a big name to the injury report and it’s bad news for the defense.

Sack king Shaq Barrett has an illness and officially is “questionable” for tomorrow.

The best way to get after a rookie quarterback (or any quarterback) is put heat on him. The Bucs’ pass rush now could be severely diluted.

Of course, Todd Bowles was likely to send all kinds of blitzes at Steelers rookie QB Kenny Pickett whether Shaq played or not.

Typically, the Bucs would fly out of Tampa early Saturday afternoon. Joe wonders how Shaq might be handled if he has something contagious?

What is spreading at One Buc?

Joe – do you know if this is the same illness that fellow OLB Carl Nassib was out with?

  6. Lakeland Steve Says:

They better fly him separately if they think he has a chance on playing at all. He’s going to be in a aluminum tube for 2 1/2 hours there and then back with everyone else on the team. Not good! I wonder what it is, a couple of guys have been sick now. We don’t need the plague going through our team now.

Walking wounded…a bye week for many players…..Shaq will be missed

    Don’t know.

  9. Manny Says:

Ughhhh!!! Of course!!!! What else should we expect by. Now besides tom playing. Why doesn’t everyone just go on the tb12 diet. Tom is 2 games away from his 3rd streak of playing 100 games or more. If not for his 4 game suspension in 2016, he would be playing his 215 str8 game tomorrow.

  10. Casual Observer Says:

I agree with A Bucs Fan. Time for Nelson to step up – and I think he will.

  11. Pewter Power Says:

Just sit out man, he’s not ballin out at full strength so if he’s in there with a sickness he’ll be even less effective.

  12. firethecannons Says:

hard to play with an illness, toradol and extra tape don’t work on that.

  13. gp Says:

If he’s not 100% due to an illness which may or may not be contagious…
This is a game he should probably watch from home.
    IMHO

  14. Redeemer Says:

He’s got the runs. Put a cork in and play.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

This looks like the type of game that the Bucs’ offense will need to dominate in, not dissimilar to how we handled the Cowboys in Game 1. Bucs won the TOP 33-27 in that game; both teams had 1 turnover; and we played a relatively balanced game in terms of run-pass. Fournette rushed a bunch (21 times for 127 yds) and Evans, Godwin & Gage had a solid game (10-for-12 combined for 119 yds) & Julio added another 3-for-5 for 69 yds. Yet we really didn’t go deep in that game (Brady was 1-for-5 deep); against the Steelers I fully expect that we will because they’ve shown themselves to be vulnerable deep.

Even thought the Steelers offense hasn’t been very prolific, I expect they’ll put up some points against our badly depleted defense, especially if Shaq’s out. We’d in essence be missing 4 defensive starters (Edwards, Ryan, Hicks & Shaq) & that’s pretty hard to compensate for against any NFL team. Offense is gonna need to ball out.

  16. Redeemer Says:

Pickett has 4 ints in two games, plus a relief appearance. Bowles would be stupid to go blitz crazy. It’s the only chance Pittsburgh has. Sit back, and wait for the mistake. A timely blitz here and there. I doubt Pickett can lead a bunch of 12 play scoring drives.

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

Whatever happened to that Dallas well balanced offense? I knew I was too good to be true.

  18. Hodad Says:

Could it be the Rona rearing it’s ugly head?

  19. Redeemer Says:

Listn, what’s most impressive is they did it against the now 5th ranked defense. The cowboys game should be the blueprint, except for the red zone failures

  20. Bucs Win Says:

There’s a stomach virus going around town, I was exposed to a friend that had volunteered for the MM day care Thursday the 6th and caught it and was sick last Saturday. I woke up around 4:30 am Monday morning extremely ill, everything went straight though me and it made me so weak I could not get out of bed, and it lasted 2days. It sucked.

  21. Kody Says:

Remember in the 70s when guys would grit through any injury and keep on playing no matter what.

And now if a guy stubs his toe he’s out for a month.

  22. SteelStudBuc Says:

    @Redeemer

Hahaha the runs, put a cork in it!
    Wear the dark pants boys

  23. steele Says:

So decimated secondary, poor run Suh-less defense, and poor pass rush now without Shaq. Carl, Nelson and JTS still getting pushed out of plays after a “great first step”. Gee, sounds like…no defense. Pickett at QB only buys you so much, Steelers can still move the ball and score big.

Another potential shootout game that rests on tired Brady to score a crapload of points, if the offense can figure itself out.

    Not good.

  24. Bojim Says:

Let Hall play linebacker. I don’t know shlt.

If Shaq doesn’t play, Nelson has a big opportunity. His per-snap stats have always been impressive, but it’s hard to judge by that, as I don’t track the situations that he has been used in. These situations may have been advantageous for him. I don’t think we’ve ever seen him get starter snaps.

    95% Shaq plays!
