Sack Attack

October 9th, 2022

Hassled by Bucs pass rush.

The Bucs’ front line came to play today and no one was more stoked than Joe.

Anytime a defense can rack up the sacks is a good thing. When it happens against a glorified Wing-T quarterback, a runaround quarterback like Marcus Mariota of the Dixie Chicks, that’s even better.

No, Joe never liked Mariota. Thought he was grossly overrated in college and thought — and wrote many times — he would bust out in the NFL. He has proven Joe correct.

To be fair, this Mariota can run. The Tennessee-Ready game was proof. Still, Mariota wasn’t able to escape the Bucs’ pass rush today.

The Dixie Chicks may have stopped Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett — he had no sacks and but one of 10 — 10! — Bucs quarterback hits. But Atlanta forgot about the rest of the Bucs. Joe Tryon-Shoyinka had his best half of football since being drafted by the Bucs last year in the first round when he had a sack and two quarterback hits in the first half alone.

This year’s first draft pick Logan Hall, and backup Deadrin Senat, also joined in the fun with Vita Vea and Antoine Winfield, Jr.

Was the Bucs defense lights out today? It was good for the most part. But having a heavy pass rush makes any defense look better. And the Bucs sure did that today.

The offense is the real problem, but Davis, SMB, and Edwards getting injured doesn’t bode well for next week.

  2. Francisco Guzman Says:

A Bucs Fan they will be fine. Anyway this defense still gave up a lot of rushing yards.

  3. Goatfarmer Says:

The Steelers just got hammered today. They are going with the Pickett.

Bowles has no excuse if he can’t stop them. Meanwhile, give Tom the call and Bymoron the special assignment to scout the CFL for a place to trade Dardung.

Joe with a title like that I was hoping to read the number of sacks we had!

  5. Rod Munch Says:

Winfield Jr with another Ronde like day… 8 tackles, 2 TFL, a pass defended and a sack. Just needs to pick up the pace slightly on the INTs, and he’s right there.

  6. Stanglassman Says:

JTS needs to stay in his run lane. Better game but he’s still a run game liability.

  7. Bucs since 76 Says:

If you watch the Giants game that’s a play caller with imagination. Leftwich doesn’t scheme players open just tried to lot players beat their match up. Therefore, lots of the time Brady has no one to throw to.

  8. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

    The sacks were outstanding.
Good to see JTS get a nice one.
Defense had alot to be proud of….
…. and alot down the stretch to not be…
But I will put that ALL on Byron. (whom I have defended for a long time)
Defense should have been cruising down the stretch.
Final score should have been 24-0

    Winfield was on fire today.

The run defense? Okay not so much. White is too inconsistent and looks like a bull in a China shop at times.

D-line did get pressure, but still gave up too many rushing yards and way too many 3rd down conversions to a sub par offense missing it’s 2 best players.

Hopefully Edwards, Davis and SMB aren’t too bad.

  10. D-Rome Says:

The Hawaiian Prince had no chance today and overall he is not very good. Picks 1 & 2 from the 2015 NFL draft are both busts.

  11. Steven007 Says:

Take away Mariota scrambling, and yes I know you can’t do that, we held their actual running backs to around 90 yards. Not terrible. But we must contain quarterbacks who can run…

  12. steele Says:

It was a decent but not great performance against a lesser team that also underperformed. Run defense not great.

A good confidence builder. More injuries does not bode well for the next few.

  13. David Says:

What game were some of you watching? Some of you are saying the run defense was not good? If you look at the statistics maybe but if you watch the game they stopped the run for the most part the entire day. They had a couple scrambles & a long third down run when they’re playing pass D.
I will take that run defense every Sunday

    The deal was outstanding.
The offense on the other hand looked great then looked horrible. They need to get in a rhythm and play a full game. They should have put up 34+ points today

  14. Sumosam Says:

Atlanta only crossed the 50 yard line 4 or 5 times in the whole game. The defense played great. I don’t know what you guys were watching.

  15. WillieG Says:

Beckles’s two favorites (Miller and Tryon) had good games today. Not great. Good. I’m still inclined to agree with Beckles though. He’s played a lot more football than I have. I hope he’s wrong, of course. I’d have to see Miller get more work across the middle before I declare Beckles wrong. I would need to JTS put together a complete game, and that means also sealing the edge and not letting runners run left.

  16. Delusional Intelligence Says:

Ponders what it will mean when Mariota wins more games with an inferior roster than Jaboo Boo Winston.
