Nick Leverett Will Start At Guard; Luke Goedeke And Russell Gage Are Out, Among Others

October 26th, 2022

Bucs guard Nick Leverett.

The Bucs are a physically busted up team for tomorrow night’s game against the Ravens.

Rookie left guard Luke Goedeke, who has started every game this season was declared out with an injured foot. Backup Nick Leverett, who saw his first 2022 action on Sunday, will start in his place, head coach Todd Bowles said today.

Leverett played nearly the entire game at left guard last season against the Colts when Aaron Stinnie was injured during his start for then-injured guard Ali Marpet. Leverett did a great job in that game.

Also out for the Bucs tomorrow are cornerbacks Carlton Davis (hip) and Sean Murphy-Bunting (quad). Safety/corner Antoine Winfield remains in the concussion protocol after the knee he took to the head Sunday.

Wide receiver Russell Gage (hamstring) is out, and Cameron Brate’s neck injury appears significant. He has yet to practice since injuring it at Pittsburgh 10 days ago.

Todd Bowles called defensive tackle Akiem Hicks (foot) doubtful. And the guy who feels like a Halloween ghost, Julio Jones, will be a gametime decision, per Bowles.

I’m starting to think Julio Jones being on the team is a sick prank. We’re so screwed. Also, cutting Tyler Johnson was a mistake.

  2. macajubav Says:

We should win this easy !!! We have about as many defenders out as Pittsburgh had and they kicked some ass !!!!

  3. ZZbucs Says:

Julio Jones has been the worst Joke for the bucs in many many years…Tha joke is so bad that is seems more of a tragic

  4. unbelievable Says:

Gage, Jones, Davis, SMB, Winfield, Ryan all out…

This game is going to be a goddamn bloodbath.

Has Brady ever been 3 – 5 in his career? Well at least that will be another “record” the Bucs org can celebrate lol

  5. Thunder Says:

If Julio doesn’t play tomorrow they HAVE to release him and go find someone else, like OBJ or Jerry Jeudy. Ravens game is the biggest of the season to this point and if Julio can’t give it a go for his teammates (especially with Gage out) then he has to go!

  6. LVMYBUCS Says:

Well thats the excuse Bowles will use for his next press confrance

  7. Gofortheface30 Says:

Just a somewhat random observation. We laughed in 2020 when Tampa put it on KC in embarrassing fashion. We had our giggles, laughs and popped champagne bottles. But who would you rather be right now. They lost Tyreek and they’re still a wagon. They will keep winning year after year. My point is – Brady was supposed to bring about a CULTURE of winning. Sustained success, with accountability. If he gets all the credit for 2020 then….what say you for 2022 hmm? The Bucs are a dumpster fire and the fact that it’s looking more and more like we will be nothing more than a one yr wonder should bother people even more, it should bother the players. But a lot of em got paid and I see zero hunger and a huge drop off in play (hi vita.) and for all the good will Jason Licht earned – this yrs free agency signings are a huge disaster. Building a culture by the way shouldn’t involve signing injury riddled one yr rentals. This all in idea is fun until it isn’t, and you realize that the character of your football team isn’t near the level that you thought

  8. ElioT Says:

Ravens are going to torch the Bucs tomorrow night.

It’s going to be another Prime Time embarrassment.

  9. Thunder Says:

And I don’t want to hear about injuries, ALL teams get beat up, Ravens will likely have significant players missing too, especially on offense. Unless you lose your franchise QB no one can cry about injuries

  10. Cobraboy Says:

    Injured foot?

    Okey Dokey.

I’m sure not damaging his psyche worse against the Crows had nothing to do with it.

  11. Anonymous Says:

The Bucs are going to right the ship tommorrow night in Tampa and we will start our run. TB12>Lamar

  12. Redeemer Says:

Thursday night football is a horrible product. Expect some extra sloppy play.

  13. BigMacAttack Says:

Since we’re basically conceding this game we’re a shoe in to win it. Playing a good team and being the underdog all beat up, it should be our best game. Likely 5 TDs for the sloppy offense 😂

  14. Bucamania Says:

Julio Jones is still out? What a joke.

Akiem Hicks is still nursing plantar friggen faciitis?

    So soft.

  15. unbelievable Says:

Wait a second… people actually think we’re going to win tomorrow night?

    LOFL

This will be a beat down of epic proportions, a la the 2014 game.

  16. BucsFan81 Says:

This game is going to be really bad. Blowout for the ravens by the end of the first quarter.

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

Tommy, what are you doing? Retire get away from this cluster f@#k of a team.

  18. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Bucs miss Whitehead more than any of these slugs that are out; ol Smart Guy Licht should have re-signed whitehead instead of throwing money at any of these guys that $10 mil at Gage, what a joke; Devin White is just a guy that runs around and nothing more. What is the NFL record for a qb and rushing yards? Lamar will get that Thursday night

  19. Hail2dabucs Says:

This whole team is soft AF ! I’ve been saying that . They were just a finese team that ain’t got no more finese! Just softness now .

  20. Dewey Selmon Says:

I like Thunder’s idea of trading for Juedy. replace one JJ for another.

  21. DG060 Says:

Julio Jones – A complete and utter robbery to be paying him Millions for nothing.
Russell Gage – A complete and utter disappointment. Been injured since day 1.
Akeim Hicks – A complete and utter disappointment.
    Darden/Miller/ Perryman – The 3 put together doesn’t equal 1 good starter.
Jason Licht/Bowles/ Leftwich – A complete and utter failure to not bring a free agent LG in to have some semblance of a functional offensive line. They bet on 2 first year starters In Hainsey and Geodeke. They lost big on that.

  22. captivajim Says:

OBJ is not going to sign with Bucs .. he wants to sign with a likely Superbowl team–the Bucs are not in that catagory this yr

  23. Redeemer Says:

Come on you guys. If this year has taught us anything, it’s that any team can beat any team. I wouldn’t be shocked if the bucs win. I also wouldn’t be shocked if the Ravens blow them off the field. The entire league is upside down.

  24. Deeez NATZ Says:

Can’t fire toilet bowl that would be the R word.

  25. Thunder Says:

Agreed Redeemer. As always the idiot pundits try to say Brady is done, they are always wrong and are wrong again this time . I feel he and the other veterans will come out breathing fire. I also feel Leftwich has heard all the complaints and you will see early and often deep shot attempts down the field to exploit the Ravens’ weak secondary. The Ravens are a borderline playoff team playing on the road against a wounded animal. Bucs win 31-20

  26. Will Says:

I remember BA saying last year that Carlton needed to learn how to play when he was banged up. Looks like since BA isn’t in charge he’s back to his old ways of not playing if he’s slightly nicked up. Got the money and this is what we get from him now.

  27. adam from ny Says:

    this is sad…

i think players a checking out and acting “hurter than hurt” these days to avoid being part of the bottoming out…

next week a guy will sit with a hang nail…

and another will sit with a butt cheek splinter…

bowles should just a couple guys to make an example

  28. SufferingSince76 Says:

    That’s 2 year wonder, gofortheface30. We probably won’t sniff 13-4 for a long time.

  29. Zoocomics Says:

@Joe … Winfield took the concussion against Carolina, not Pittsburgh.

  31. kyle Says:

im sorry but for the first time since QB Crab Leg, I have zero confidence that this team can win tomorrow night..

  32. kyle Says:

Lamar Jackson is going to light the bucs defense up… I hope they surprise us!!

  33. beano Says:

Tom’s gonna be grounding lots of footballs.

  34. beano Says:

Dress Trask and if we’re getting blown out give him some snaps.

  35. Thomas Edrington Says:

Good news is that everyone can get their disappointment out of the way Thursday night and a Sunday loss won’t spoil a nice weekend!!!!!

  36. HC Grover Says:

At least Plan 9 will be in there observing the action.

  37. kyle Says:

    HAHA ^^ Thomas!! good one.

  38. Thunder Says:

Beano you have to be the most clueless dude on here, go have another beer. Everyone else trying to say that Lamar is going to kill us get a clue. He is one of the most overrated players in the NFL. When game gets tight he isn’t accurate at all . He makes big mistakes late in games, which he has done in all 3 of their losses this year. His numbers are pedestrian. He is and always has been a running back playing QB. Give me a break with this Lamar talk, he isn’t Josh Allen, not even close

  39. Rod Munch Says:

So when the Bucs come out this week and still can’t run the ball on 1st down or 3rd and short, will people still be blaming Goedeke? Probably.

Even if they don’t run to his side, people will blame him. The mob mentality is truly special, and by that I mean short bus special.

  40. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Hopefully the Thursday night chant from the crowd……”Let’s go Brandon (Byron) ” will inspire the offense….

  41. Pewter Power Says:

Julio Jones is older and I’m fine with him waiting as long as it takes to get healthy, he looked like he’d make a difference when playing against Dallas. Next man up, they cut Tyler Johnson for these tiny receivers that do the same thing Scotty miller does so get ‘em out on the field

  42. kyle Says:

Thunder, what makes you think the bucs defense can contain the ravens? they gave up almost 200 yards to two clowns last week that had combined total run yardage for the year at around 78??? Where is the pass rush coming from? JTS is a bust, barrett is a ghost..

  43. GoatWatcher Says:

Play Julio and treat this one like the Super Bowl. If he blows up he goes of IR that opens a roster spot.

  44. kyle Says:

Thunder, I hope your right! Im not sure if you are paying attention the games?

  45. Goatfarmer Says:

    Good news on Leverett .

Toad’s Bowel needs to tell Wholio he’s playing even if simply to be a decoy.

But it doesn’t matter. The defense quit against the Steelers and Panthers. Look for Lamar to lay at least a 40-burger on these frauds.

This is so bad it causes me to drink heavily. Well I mean even more heavily.

  46. beano Says:

Thunder, you gotta be a special kind of moron to call me clueless without explaining why. You should have listened to your mom and finished grade school.

  47. fern Says:

wow the barbarians at the gate.

  48. Marine Buc Says:

I can’t believe the Bucs are only getting 1.5 points…

Seems like a nice opportunity to pick up some easy money.

    Ravens – 27
    Bucs – 13

  49. brooks Says:

38- 7 Ravens come on draft in April

  50. Thunder Says:

Beano I’ve read some of your laughable takes, they speak for themselves.

  51. Tvan101 Says:

Carlton Davis with that contract is not going to gut it out for a hip injury? We are done, trade Brady and bring on Trask.

  52. steele Says:

Leverett, Goedeke. LG remains a problem. Leverett struggled throughout the preseason and didn’t earn the starting job. He didn’t suddenly become fantastic. Get ready to cringe. I hope Tom has pain killers and ice ready.

Gofortheface, Brady did bring a culture of winning. He also had Gronkowski. And he had veterans who were still hungry and bought in.

Then once the goal was achieved, what happened? Guys in “been there done that” mode, relaxed, cocky, no longer hungry. Then injuries. Then locker room poison (AB etc.). Then cap limitations, youngsters asked to step up (but failing to get it). Coaching, which was never great to begin with, becomes an even trickier job. It’s much, much harder to repeat, and to maintain a consistent winning posture over time.

It appears that this Bucs team is like the Seahawks were. Win the SB, almost win the next but lose painfully. Then veteran exits +failure to replace them, locker room problems, malaise, poor drafting, and young replacements not great.

  53. Rod Munch Says:

Careful on the bets, the Ravens tend to play down to their opponent.

  54. BelleGladeBuc Says:

The Bucs defense was destroyed by a QB3 running a read option with 2 practice squad level running backs against the Panthers as the Bucs defensive line was dominated by the Panthers OLINE.

QB3, two practice squad tailbacks and the Panthers OLINE rushed for almost 200 yards against the Bucs.

Lamar Jackson is not QB3 for the Panthers, but Lamar Jackson does run the same read option.

    Let this sink in.

Lamar Jackson had more rushing yards by himself than the Bucs have as a total team.

I hope those who are predicting victory over the Ravens are right.

    I’m just really skeptical.

  55. FortMyersDave Says:

@ MarineBuc, I agree on the line, in fact I went over to the Vegas Insider site to check and it appears their consensus line is the Yucs -1.5 and the moneyline is like -109 each team, essentially a pick em with a slight edge to Tampa. WTF???????? I do not get it, it may be a ploy to force money one way or the other but the trend has been slightly to the Bucs. I think Prisco is the only nimrod in the MSM to pick the Bucs and everyone is burying the team so the line is baffling, why is the line not Baltimore by -3 or 3.5 minimum????? Thus the obvious play is the Ravens and the under and use Baltimore as a suicide pick if one is still alive in the pool and does not have Philly available.

  56. Oddball Says:

Julio done put a jhex on on us.
