Matt Rhule Thrown Out Of The Stinking Panthers’ Bar

October 10th, 2022

Former Carolina coach Matt Rhule

Bad news for the Bucs.

This morning Stinking Panthers strongman David Tepper had seen enough. He launched Carolina head coach Matt Rhule. Former Cardinals coach and current Stinking Panthers assistant Steve Wilks has taken over.

Simply put, like so many college coaches, Rhule was overmatched in the NFL. He never, ever found a quarterback and his owner spared little expense to find one.

From Teddy Bridgewater to Sam Darnold to Baker Mayfield, either they were wrong acquisitions or Rhule simply didn’t know how to develop an NFL quarterback, that’s all there is to it.

The reason Joe is dreading this move? Well, the Stinking Panthers can only go up from here.

They were in the thick of the chase for the No. 1 overall draft pick (always remember and never forget you either are fighting for the playoffs or you are fighting for a top-shelf draft slot).

In Rhule’s reign of terror in Carolina, he was 1-27 when opponents scored at least 17 points, including a streak of 25 games.

Joe is confident the Bucs can score 17 on Carolina. So now the charge for the NFC South title got a little bit stiffer today without Rhule.

Im not the one to wish this on anybody but I really dont see Bowles working out. He is just to soft spoken he has no fire no spunk no energy hes like Ron Rivera and u see how thats going. Players need to see that fire that pation in your eyes.

  2. Casual Observer Says:

LVMY may be right. But I think there is no single type of personality among winning NFL coaches. Some, like Bowles, are soft-spoken. Let’s see how he progresses.

  3. IrishTony Says:

How is it bad news? What you think the Panthers are suddenly going to click offensively and the assistant is going to make radical scheme changes? There’s no one in this lousy division that can compete with the talent on this team.

  4. Joe Says:

But I think there is no single type of personality among winning NFL coaches.

Bingo. It doesn’t matter what personality a guy is. Chuck Noll had the personality of a telephone pole. He won four rings.

Jerry Glanville was an over-the-top personality. Never afraid to unload on a player and was a combination drill seargent and cheerleader. Joe isn’t sure the guy ever was on a staff that made the Super Bowl.

  5. LVMYBUCS Says:

I need Bruce back at least until we can find a Sean Payton style coach.

  6. Joe Says:

    How is it bad news?

How is it good news if the Bucs have to play a tougher opponent twice before the season is over?

  7. IrishTony Says:

Btw they’re going to tank for a high pick qb prospect because they realize Mayfield is nothing more than a temporary stopgap

  8. Buc1987 Says:

That’s the best analysis of Glanville, I’ve ever seen or heard Joe.

  9. rashad brown Says:

In order to be successful, you have to be animated. Gotcha

  10. Goatfarmer Says:

Bwaaahaaaahahahahahaaaaa. The genius dwarf hits the pavement. He’ll be a very wealthy man for not working. No one should cry for him, the way he totally threw Joe Brady under the bus.

He will be back in college (Nebraska?) by January.

  11. LVMYBUCS Says:

haaaaaaaa good point guys but for some reason I am not feeling Bowles as our future wining head coach, nor do I have any faith in Leftwich. But beggars can’t be choosey at this point in the season.

  12. A Bucs Fan Says:

Hopefully they tank and the bucs get two easy wins.

  13. Winny Testaverde Says:

This is a bummer. I enjoyed watching this pear shaped buffoon on the sidelines…looking scared, confused, befuddled etc. Not sure what owner David Tepoer was thinking when he hand picked this dandy.

  14. EEK Says:

add Rhule to the list of coaches who got fired trying to coach Mayfield

    very Winston-like

  15. Listnfrmafar Says:

Give them Bowels & BL us a 1st round draft pick. Anything to get rid of those cardboard cut outs.

  16. Dooley Says:

Can’t buy the conclusion the Panthers will be a tougher win with Rhule out, especially if the franchise starts auctioning off any of it’s talent to say stockpile draft picks in what’s looking like a top heavy QB class in 2023 and not having an answer at that position since Cam Newton originally left. We might get PJ Walker at QB for the Panthers when we play Carolina.

  17. Leighroy Says:

The Carolina Kittens have more problems than HC or Baker Mayfield. The team as a whole is as undisciplined as the Bucs were when the wheels came off the Raheem Morris experience, they have no talent at the skill positions beyond CMC and Tepper has lost the support of the city. It’s a pathetic display of football my local airwaves have been subjecting me to.

It was a sea of red in uptown Charlotte yesterday. Attendance was 40% 9ers fans, 10% kitten fans and 50% empty chairs. Steve Wilks won’t change any of the above.

  18. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

They going to be getting rid of players left and right for draft picks now worried about them.

  19. adam from ny Says:

the owner realized they’ll finish below the falcons, as the falcons at least show some fight…

they even brought cam back to try and help the guy…

    nothing worked in his favor…ever…

even mayfield looks like garbage over there…

by the time they get it together mccaffery will be all washed up – because he’s getting there already…

he does look more like the head groundskeeper as opposed to the head coach…if he grows in a scruffier beard and teams with mayfield, maybe the duo could take care of the facility, bust out a few carolina based commercials and get room and board in the stadium bowels with a shared shower…so there are still options and possibilities for the pair – yes there is a future

  20. Buddha Says:

Chuck Knoll, Tom Landry never cracked a smile and they are in the Hall of Fame.

  21. sasquatch Says:

I don’t see how them launching their coach this early should concern us. It rarely means a team turns around and becomes a playoff contender. They’re no more of a speed bump than they were yesterday.

  22. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I wish Matt Ruhle only the best. Nebraska needs a decent college coach, and I hope he gets the job.
Yes, the Panthers lost yesterday, but they got beat by one, if not THE Top Team in the NFC, the 49ers.
Pittsburgh was literally killed by Buffalo, I mean it was ugly!

  23. ocala Says:

    @LVMYBUCS

I think it is too early to say, but it is clear so far Bowles is not doing a good job.
Hopefully, he gets better quickly, but five weeks into his regime it looks bad.

  24. BucsMinisiterFuller Says:

FYI Tampa doesn’t know how to develop quarterbacks either.

  25. Stanglassman Says:

Baker Mayfield is a coach killer. He’s so bad.

  26. D-Rome Says:

David Tepper is ruining that franchise (not that I care). Fires Rivera, fires Rhule, and your starting QBs during that stretch are Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield. The only offensive weapon to speak of that’s a legit threat is CMC and they largely have a bunch of nobody’s on that team. They are like the Bucs between 2009 – 2020. Signing a bunch of guys only the die-hards get excited for while everyone else in the league knew it was a paid vacation.

Speaking of Baker, he really fell off a cliff. I thought he was better than what he’s showing.

  27. kyle Says:

d rome.. wish every losing franchise in the nfl could sign a tom brady??

Its not that easy to find a franchise qb.. didnt you learn with our number 1 crab leg stealing pick 6 or 7 years ago?

    Hahahahah

  28. Listnfrmafar Says:

So there is still hope the boring boys can get fired from Tampa???

  29. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Wow, Carolina will owe him 40 Million Dollars. The only way they get out of it is if he takes another job before the 40 million is paid!
So, take a guess who will not be coaching, anytime soon ?

  30. David Says:

    LVMYBUCS

BOWLES- All you see is what is on TV. Every player says he trash talks and swears and gets on them in practice. Every player also respects the hell out of the guy and thinks he’s a great coach.
So I am not worried. I am inclined to trust their judgment over yours from afar on TV.

  31. orlbucfan Says:

D-Rome and Leighroy are saying pretty close to what my NC BF who watches the Panthers says: the main owner sucks and wants to move the team to So. Carolina. The original guy who founded the franchise knew what he was doing including hiring Rivera. So what if he contracted cancer, he was a good HC. BTW, some of us on here recall the Culverhouse years. Talk about a rich POS. He spent more coin on his mistresses than the team. Bucs were charmed they made the playoffs in their 4th season!

  32. Jerseybuc Says:

Sorry disagree on Carolina. They will have an early spark maybe. Steve wilks isn’t going turn thst team around players see the changes already. It’s a wrap for them

  33. Bucs Win Says:

That stat about loosing by 17 points is horrible.

“How is it good news if the Bucs have to play a tougher opponent twice before the season is over?”

I really don’t get how you come to that conclusion. You say they cannot get worse? They still have the same staff.

Assumong they will suddenly get better is more of a stretch.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    orlbucfan,

People claimed the Glazer boys were bad owners too…fans will blame anyone they can if a team is losing.

  36. JeffreyLane77 Says:

Tony Dungy was soft spoken. The guy motivated players by being a father figure the players just didn’t want to let him down. Dungy even frowned upon cussing. Players would reportedly feel bad if Dungy overheard them cussing. He was eventually fired because defensive players felt they were held to a higher standard. Resentment built up between the offense and defense to the point just hiring a new offensive coordinator wasn’t an option. So they fired Dungy. There are all kinds of coaching personalities. If your soft spoken you better have the respect of your players. Either earning it through player development or having a personal connection with players. Honestly I haven’t been impressed with Bowles so far. He is a defensive head coach and his own players are being quoted that the defense just took the 4th quarter off in the Atlanta game. And before that the defense looked terrible against the Chiefs. Loafing players and defensive linemen just standing straight up out of thier stance. Like they had given up early. It’s not a good look for defensive head coach to have his defense quit on him or take it easy because the team is up by two scores.
