Jason Licht Is Very Happy With Luke Goedeke And Robert Hainsey

October 9th, 2022

High marks for rookie left guard Luke Goedeke.

The architect of the Buccaneers’ offensive line is pleased with his work and certainly will disagree with the ridiculous (Joe’s adjective) Luke Goedeke bashers out there.

General manager Jason Licht loves the progression of rookie left guard Goedeke and center Robert Hainsey, a first-year starter himself.

Licht was adamant before today’s game that his two young guns on the O-line are maturing at just the right rate. “Exactly where we thought we’d be,” Licht said energetically about their development on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

And Licht added that he liked how Goedeke held his own against Chiefs Pro Bowl defensive tackle Chris Jones last Sunday.

Joe realizes some Bucs fans are moaning about Goedeke getting beat on the opening drive today by another Pro Bowl defensive tackle, Grady Jarrett. But that’s the NFL. Goedeke isn’t a superstar yet and he settled in quite nicely against Jarrett until the final drive of the first half when he allowed a pressure.

Overall, Goedeke had a solid second half, too, despite allowing an early fourth-quarter pressure by Jarrett and then the very late sack that was wiped out by a controversial roughing-the-passer call.

In 75 snaps, Joe’s ok with Goedeke having a rough four or five plays against one of the best D-tackles in the game.

Hainsey had a heck of a game against Atlanta and Joe thinks nobody could argue against that.

“They’re getting better and better each week, not to sound cliché,” Licht said.

On Donovan Smith? Licht said fans should realize how rough Smith’s elbow injury was if it kept the Bucs’ ironman left tackle out of the lineup earlier this season.

Smith had a near perfect day today and appears to be back in top form.

Goedeke just needs to get stronger #GlassEater/#AssEater

  2. Bucs Win Says:

The goal is the Super Bowl and we ain’t going without Brady so while I agree some people are over the top with their criticisms, but 67 must play better.

  3. AMI_Chris Says:

This team cannot run block. This will be a problem.

  4. Bucsfan13 Says:

Are you kidding me?!!! Goedeke has been awful. Pure hubris by Licht, and this doesn’t bode well for Brady.

  5. Bucsfan13 Says:

Hot take: Sit Brady for two games because it’s obvious his finger and shoulder aren’t right.

  6. Beeej Says:

At least management has finally come to the same conclusion

  7. Bucsfan13 Says:

Every single analyst has said Goedke has been below average. Brandon Thorn, who I consider an expert on OL play, said Goedeke is a liability. Joe please don’t drink the Koolaid. Thorn knows his stuff. He’s a film junkie

  8. Goatfarmer Says:

Sit Brady for two games? So you want to lose two games? Seriously?

13, I like your posts but you want to lose two games with Goobert? Or the other guy who can’t even crack a practice?

We barely beat the fowlclowns. Not gonna happen against the Steelers in their building after they got rocked and embarrassed today.

    C’mon, man.

  9. JimmyJack Says:

If you expected instant roadgraders with these 2 you were probably kidding yourself.

Maybe its nothing but we have struggled all year converting 3rd&1. The second half wasnt pretty but ran for that 1 yard twice on the TD drive………If that represents a sign that they are getting better as a unit I got no issues.

  10. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Goatfarmer. Appreciate the compliment. I’m just worried about his shoulder. I’m thinking long term. The Steelers and Panthers are awful.

  11. Tbbucs3 Says:

The Oline gave Brady a clean pocket all game….No complaints from me today.

  12. Bucsfan13 Says:

Stop just paying attention to sacks. Look at hurries and knockdowns. Brady’s smart enough to release it before he gets sacked. For example, on the first play Goedeke got smoked, but Brady threw it away before he took a sack. Take off your homer glasses. Goedeke has been below average this season.

  13. bob Says:

the season is still very very early

  14. Winny Testaverde Says:

Like asking a barber if you need a haircut…asking a GM if he likes his recent premium picks.

  15. Coburn Says:

Unrealistic expectations. He hasn’t been elite, but he’s been at least an average starter imo, which is pretty darn good for a green guy like him imo. There are teams strutting out worse linemen at those positions. I’d be curious how Cappa is doing. From what I heard burrow is still under a lot of pressure

  16. Will Says:

In the short yardage why are we not running behind our All Pro right tackle and Right Guard who many were claiming was a great run blocker. I understand the left side has to get better and that only happens the more they work together but the same can be said about the right side since Mason is new to our team.

  17. LakelandSteve Says:

Bucsfan13, what game are you watching? Sit Brady? Are you out of your mind. He went through a long stretch where he looked like he was back in New England picking teams apart. Even the announcers said it looked like 7 on 7 drills the way he was throwing.

  18. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Lakeland. This isn’t an indictment on Brady. I think he’s played relatively well, but he’s very injured right now. He needs rest.

  19. LeftwichgottagoAndBowles too Says:

Funny… maybe your eyes are in need of a refurbishment. Sacks are not the mist important thing against Brady especially 45 year old Brady. It’s pressures and hits. I saw a lot of hits today.

  20. theghost Says:

When is D Smith coming back?

  21. Coburn Says:

Don has been back for a couple weeks now. Came back against the chiefs

  22. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Leftwichgottago. Thank you! Brady has taken a beating. He’s been hit a lot or either hurried. Defenders will still keep going after his shoulder.

  23. JimmyJack Says:

LeftwitchgottagoAnd Bowles too. Yeah I dont think so dude. We done that already and it was every 2 years we were bringing in new coaching staffs, new systems and total rebuilds……Historically it equated to some of the worst NFL football to ever grace a field.

Our fanbase refers to that era as the lost decade(i argue its closer to 2 decades). We got something good cooking here. Enjoy it and enjoy the win. We are 3-2, 2-0 in the South that we are dominting right now……before Bowles got here whens the last time we could say something like that? I know its at least a decade. Enjoy it.

  24. T REX Says:

Licht says Hicks ia an A+ signing…dide is a joke.

Without BRady he would have a WORSE record than Dominik.

    Let that sink in

  25. Bucsfan13 Says:

Off topic, but why do people have mental illness when it comes to Brady. You see the unnecessary comments about his personal life. You have fans tagging Gisele on a Zach Wilson’s IG post. It’s insane. Brady needs to disable all IG comments. I doubt he reads them, but it’s brutal. I’ve never seen such blind hatred for a guy. Brady Derangement Syndrome is real.

  26. ForReal Says:

JimmyJack… I don’t mean literally go. I mean get off their A$$ets and change their meh attitudes and game planning/playcalling. This team has one chance to win the SB, and that’s a healthy and in rhythm Brady. They prepare this team like he will just put them on his shoulder at the end and poof… they win. He can do that, but for that to be the basis of your system… that’s poor%#* coaching. A team takes on the mentality of their coach. This team is terrible at the little things, the basics, the fundamentals. Also, if Brady keeps taking hits like this, there may be no playoffs, never mind the SB.

  27. Crickett Baker Says:

On the bright side, Otton and R White made some great plays and I see improvement with Hainsey, too. BTW, JPP is making some big plays for the Raiders, and I miss him.

  28. Adrnagy Says:

It depends how you look at it. But if you put goedeke to block donald we aint winning the playoff game. Book it. I said it.

If you look at it for future. Yes. Development as they go.

  29. Adrnagy Says:

    R. White needs to get same touches every game. 10-15 as today .

  30. Pepsi Says:

No joke, Luke Goedeke has probably been beaten more times in these 5 games than Marpet has in his whole career. No Marpet, Jesnsen and Gronk is the reason why this team doesn’t look as good right now

  31. Will Says:

It’s baffling how some of you are “fans”of this team and ask questions like when is Donovan Smith coming back🤯 dude played last week and this week, sit Brady for the next 2 games cause the Panthers and Steelers suck. Smh glad you’re not coaching this team. If that’s the case maybe the next 2 games he can get in a rhythm with the new guys and hopefully our line will start to gel and protect him better. I’ll admit his hand does worry me. Seems like he’s short on some passes I’m thinking he’s not able to grip the ball as well.

Things will get better as the season goes we’ve got a lot of new pieces just keep winning doesn’t matter how it looks right now. Heck if it weren’t for our turn overs we might be undefeated and we still haven’t played a complete game. Think about that…

  32. Timbo Slice Says:

Goedeke has been trash. Every time Brady gets hit, you see #67 chasing some D-lineman that got through the famous Goedeke arm block

  33. Buccobill99 Says:

Last 2 games against jones and garrett aint so much

  34. BigZ Says:

Hainsey I agree with, but 67 gets beat easily with an inside move. Several of TB12 hurries were a result of just that. 67 needs better footwork. I also see very little push by 67 on runs. That was suppose to be his strength.
I still didn’t like that pick, too early in the draft for him.

  35. Listnfrmafar Says:

I guess you can’t see sh@tty blocking from the sideline? If that means their not looking for a replacement guard Bucs O I s in trouble. 2 words Jason, “RUNNING GAME “!

  36. Bucschamp Says:

I am wondering why we don’t do QB sneak at 1? Does this have something to do with Hainsey? Brady doesn’t trust him?

  37. Eckwood Says:

Why are the Falcons a far Superior running team !!
I don’t think the current make up of this staff will or would like to answer this !!
Is it o line personnel, running backs, coaching and scheme ??

  38. Just Leave Trask Alone Says:

They can get push up front and Goedeke is getting raked out there in pass protection.

We all can see he isn’t up for the task.

  39. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

Hainsey is doing great & Goedeke just needs more seasoning & he’ll be ok.

  40. SlyPirate Says:

Goedeke will be better as the season progresses BUT he’ll make a huge jump after an offseason. Unless you’re freak-of-nature Wirfs, you have to learn the nuances of the position and put on NFL weight.

  41. Aaron Says:

Like he is about that roughing the passer call on Shady brady lol getting old Shady

  42. August 1976 Buc Says:

The biggest issue with the 2022 version of the Bucs is the are not near as strong on the O line or D line. Can talk about whatever, but if you get overpowed in the trenches on both sides of the ball, you will not go far in the NFL. On a particular bull rush by Jones against Goedeke that sticks out, Jones was like a man against a boy, just the size of Jones, and Luke just getting pushed back with little hinderance to Jones. It was just painful to see. Again football is all about winning the line of scrimmage, and right now, the Bucs look anthing but strong on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. I will not go too much into how the D line is getting owned, back to back games of 150+ yrds given up by the Run D. Just not as strong period. Like Suh oe not Joe, they are weaker without him. The heck with other GMs, we see how Suh fits and played for the Bucs. Simple facts.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  43. orlbucfan Says:

The way the so-called “fans” on here screech, one would think the Bucs were 0-5, not 3-2. I also think Licht knows more about football than the fire breathers/hot air yahoos on here.

  44. steele Says:

They are all uniformly happy about their golden boys Hainsey, Goedeke, Hall, Otton, and their next JAG up practice squad and will never say otherwise. Because their fervent prayer is for these rooks of varying quality are such instant impact that they don’t need to spend another cent or make another move this season.

This is the bet. We’ll see how it goes, if Brady takes too much punishment and can’t get anything going. We’ll see if the defense never improves.

The mysterious Jensen needs to come back, so the softies and the abused can go sit back on the bench.

  45. garro Says:

Coach speak for we dont have anyone better and we are screwed.:)
