Is Tom Brady Really Struggling?

October 27th, 2022

Washed? NextGen Stats say no.

There seems to be this narrative out there that Tom Brady looks old, like he’s 45.

Some even are brave enough to suggest Brady is washed. Well, Joe is not going there. At all.

Brady ranks No. 6 in the NFL in passing and he has the fewest picks (one) for any quarterback who has started every game. Doesn’t sound like a washed-up guy to Joe.

Below are the NextGen Stats breakdown of all of Brady’s throws.

Joe always hears former NFL suit and Bill Belicheat gofer Michael Lombardi say Brady misses James White, a two-bit running back currently out of football who caught a bunch of dump-offs from Brady in New England.

This always drives Joe out of his mind. Brady in his first two years with the Bucs won 29 games, an NFC South title, led the league in passing and touchdowns last year and oh, yeah, won a GD Super Bowl and Lombardi claims Brady is crippled without this dime store Marshall Faulk to throw to.

Give Joe a friggin’ break!

As you can see in the stats below, Brady does just fine throwing to the flats.

But Lombardi also says Brady loves to throw to the middle of the field and he claims that is where he and foot-rubbing tight end Rob Gronkowski shined.

Lombardi may be onto something there. If Brady is struggling, it is throwing over the middle.

Can Cade Otton develop quickly enough to provide Brady with a reliable weapon over the middle? That’s a bit much on a rookie tight end, but he has shown signs. Ko Kieft has also shown the capability of being a target over the middle

Next time you hear someone say Brady misses this James White, dump a bowl of chowder in his lap for being so hot in the pants for Belicheat players.

It’s not age, it’s the piss poor O Line interior and questionable receiving targets. We all know that Goedeke stinks and that Hainsey was overhyped as a replacement, anyone with a set if eyes and a football IQ above 80 can see it. What’s also sad is the free agent money wasted on the likes of Gage, Julio, and Randolph. Evans had a terrible game, he had focus issues and perhaps some physical impairment. Godwin is a warrior just being out there, he may not be back to being himself until late thus season at the earliest. Rookie TEs rarely contribute in thus league and Otton isn’t a first or second round pick.

I see this season spiraling out of control unless some changes are made. First priority remains the O Line, second a healthy TE who can work his magic in the red zone. I think the run game will improve with the O Line, and that will also help keep defenses honest. As of now, teams play the pass on almost every down except third and short.

  2. Hodad Says:

This is not the same Tom Brady, age has caught up with him. Don’t care about stats, I can see it with my own two eyes. Like so many other greats, he stayed one season to long.

  3. ChiBuc Says:

Sometimes the prettiest women are not the best f#@!$. Stats don’t lead teams, leaders do.

  4. SufferingSince76 Says:

If Brady sucked behind a good o-line, I might agree. But he is not behind a good o-line and he is still doing better than the haters would like.

  5. Smashsquatch Says:

His greatest asset has always been his melon, leadership, and focus. All three have been infected with a virus (personal life). Additionally, his body can’t handle the beating anymore. He’s playing behind a new interior line, lacking confidence, and looks like he’s lost weight. I see a skittish QB who’s stats don’t tell the story. Just last week he should’ve been picked off three times. Man, I hope hecread

  6. BucU Says:

Tom Brady is the very last thing I’m worried about with this team. His supporting cast sucks this year.
As does his O.C. and head coach.
If they lose tonight the angst is going to increase by orders of magnitude.
I never imagined having a must win game before Halloween.

  7. Oneilbuc Says:

Why some of yall hate to admit Brady has decline and he’s not playing good? He almost had 3 picks last week and almost had 3 picks against the Steelers and he’s been throwing balls to the ground. But it’s BL fault because because the way he’s been throwing the ball lol !! So if Brady plays well tonight will y’all give BL credit for his play calling?

  8. Oneilbuc Says:

Last week Brady had a lot of time to throw the ball stop making excuses for Brady suffering 76 . I want to hear these same excuses for the new quarterback next year!!

  9. George Says:

Have said it since Jensen and Stinnie got injured, Licht needed to bring in two experienced vets , because Bucs can’t afford to waste Tom Brady’s last season .

Licht refused to make any moves and we see the outcome which was predicted . A losing season.

What a waste of The Goat

  10. Wild Bill Says:

Brady has looked a bit off on his throws this season. Too many balls thrown a little too low, or little too high or a little behind the receiver. My guess he is rushing his throws because of porous blocking up front. Also the coaching decision to avoid the deep pass plays has allowed defenses to jam up the short to intermediate zones. No biscuit this year because of a very conservative game plan to run more and pass short. The results are plain to see. Opponents clog the run and short pass areas.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    A QB that goes 4-43 on 3rd & medium/long…….can’t be struggling?

If it were any other QB on any other team the answer would be….absolutely.

And, that should be the answer for the Bucs.

Tom Brady will be with the dolphins next year one way or another. At first some front office job. He wants to be a billionaire so he will prolly start his 10 year 375 million dollar contract. Brady takes a huge pay check playing for the Bucs.
Bruce Beal soon to be owner of the Dolphins is a huge Tom Brady fan boy. Bruce Beal net worth 15 billion. They say Bruce Beal’s kid is named Brady after Tom. I hate to be mean but you forced to TAMPABAYBUCFAN. imo Brady loved his time in tampa. Loved the coaches owners teammates everyone. Bucs treated Brady like a king. But Brady wanted to leave this off season. Gisele Brady and Bruce Beal are very close. He is going to be owner of dolphins it written in his contract. When Brady went to Krafts wedding on his instagram story he gave a shout to Bruce Beal keeping it 100. Brady clearly dont care about NFL sanctions. Brady Gisele Beal are as close as ever.. Do Bucs fans to stupid to understand this. Gisele is living in Miami. Gisele doesnt want to and will not divorce Brady. Its gisele’s way of getting him to Miami. I sorry Bucs fans but Brady did the same thing his last year with patriots. Brady is not washed just going through the motions. Thats why Brady wanted to go to a new team. Tampa is boring to Brady he already won there. Needed to be reinvigorated like he was when he first came to Bucs

    Words of wisdom from ChiBuc.

  14. Ken Says:

The play calling has been awful. They get soooo conservative. There is no downfield passing attack. They refuse to attack defenses like they did a year or 2 ago.

This offense is reminding me of the Tony Dungy days.

  15. Lamarcus Says:

Probably not washed but definitely can’t carry a team on back and been this way for years. He needs high powered weapons to be great. Without those weapons, Brady is average like Heinike or Garropolo

  16. Tbbucs3 Says:

Joe, 1 pick means squat for a QB if your not moving the football consistently or throwing touchdowns….which Tom Brady isn’t doing.

Mahomes has 5 INTs yet 20 touchdowns. Brady has one int but is still playing subpar football right now.

  17. NashvilleBuc Says:

Brady keeps throwing to the same receiver – the ground.

  18. SufferingSince76 Says:

Oneilbuc, if the o-line sucks next year, I will. Brady hasn’t forgotten how to play football. The haters have tried to count him out for the last couple of years and he continually proves them (you) wrong.

  19. catcard202 Says:

Nashville….We are on the same wavelength.

To me, it looks TB12 is not willing to take the heat in the kitchen anymore.

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Yeah, he’s struggling, and he’s too stupid and full of himself to see it. Thank gawd, he’s history after this year!
