“I Don’t Know How Much Closer He Is To Playing”

Cameron Brate

Starting tight end Cameron Brate’ scary sprained neck injury sounds like it scared a few folks at One Buc Palace.

Today, head coach Todd Bowles didn’t offer a hint on how Brate is recovering as a football player after a hit during Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh sent him to the hospital. Bowles only said it’s great to see Brate walking around and “functioning.”

Damn, that doesn’t give Joe a good feeling about Brate returning to the field any time soon.

“I don’t know how much closer he is to playing,” Bowles said of Brate.

Are the Bucs a better offense with Cade Otton and Kyle Rudolph shouldering the pass-catching load? The Bucs should get a lot of answers on that front with two games — Panthers and Ravens — in the next six days.

  1. A Bucs Fan Says:

Put him on IR. He should come back no earlier than Christmas.

  2. Anonymous Says:

I never wanna see Brate on the field again, He is a good buc and should never put the pads on again

  3. MadMax Says:

Yeah, he needs to take his time.

    WHERE ARE YOU GRONK!!!!!!?????????

  4. stpetebucfan Says:

I agree with Anonymous. I actually like the Buc’s players as human beings not simply as football players. Brate probably needs to follow Gronk’s lead and hang up the cleats.

Meanwhile it’s time to let Cade Otton continue his growth. He shows a lot of promise as a receiver. Ko Kieft is obviously doing a good job blocking and can serve as a versatile H back. TE/FB Rudolph is obviously a stop gap who has seen his best days already. He’s not part of the future. Let’s find out for real if Otton is the man! I like his potential it’s time to find out.

If Otton needs more time to grow during the season we have plenty of other options…including two awesome WR’s and a GREAT RB with solid hands out of the backfield.

  5. Goatfarmer Says:

Retire, Cam. This sh!t show isn’t worth you risking a vegetative state.

  6. Kody Says:

    Brate needs to retire immediately!!

Let Cade and Ko take over all snaps for good from now on.

  7. IE Buc Says:

Brate should retire for the sake of his health. We don’t need him with the emergence of Otton and Ko. Rudolf should be cut. He’s useless. I would trade for a familiar face. A blocking TE. Either OJ Howard or Auclair.

  8. B-Dog Says:

Did this guy just say bring Oj howard back? This is part of the problem with Bucs fans , The team gets rid of players because they sucked and fans say oh we should bring those guys back..smh

  9. ZZbucs Says:

    @IE Buc…

OJ Howard blocking? Are you talking about the same OJ Howard who played for the bucs the last years? Not sure if he blocked anybody in his entire career…..

  10. orlbucfan Says:

Cam Brate has been a good player since Licht signed him as an UFA. He’s never gotten the full credit he deserves. I am glad he has a SB ring cos he helped the Bucs win it!

  11. hoops Says:

Cam has given a lot of blood sweat and tears to the bucs over these past 9 years. Did you know he graduated from Harvard? He’s smart enough to know when to hang it up. I hopes he gets more time to recover than a week between what was a misdiagnosed concussion and whiplash of the neck. Those doctors and trainers work for the bucs and it’s a business. I hope they put players health before the bottom line which is to get them back out on the field too soon after an injury. Go Cam, go Bucs.

  12. Bojim Says:

Think about yourself and your family Cameron.

  13. ClwJB Says:

Those two injuries in succession after a well respected career here, I would say thanks and good night – he’ll be broadcasting making millions next season or his Harvard education to do whatever he chooses

Thank you for your dedicated service!!!!!

  14. sasquatch Says:

He should retire. It’s not worth it.

  15. Hodad Says:

No one would blame you for walking away. I encourage it.

  16. SlyPirate Says:

    Please retire.

You have your health. You have a Super Bowl. You have money.

  17. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I like the rookies, Rudolph is a waste of a roster spot.

  18. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I do not wish any player any harm, but I am not a Cam Brate Fan at all.
I was shocked when we paid him all that money!
I think Otten is the future at Tight End, so play him.

  19. firethecannons Says:

the sooner we get cade otton functioning at a higher level then the better this team will be and that will not happen unless he gets snaps and now that Brate thankfully is stretching and hot tubbing

  20. firethecannons Says:

agree with Pirate up there–Cam Brate needs to call it done and he can grab tua Tagavailoa and walk away with some money and hopefully a decent life some folks already too banged up funny thing they keep sending bridgewater out–guy has had 2 blackouts(night night on the field) and multiple other concussions along with a knee that needed an emergency operation.

  21. Lakeland Steve Says:

C’mon Gronk, just a half season and playoffs. I am sure the Bucs would do whatever you needed to come back.

  22. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

LOL, The Girl I am dating took a look at Cameron Brate, and remarked that if he does retire, he has a bright future as a spokes model for any Dental Office.
He does have some serious teeth on him!
