Gameday Tampa Bay

October 16th, 2022

Game 6

Bucs (3-2) at Steelers (1-4)

Kickoff: 1 p.m.

TV: WTVT-TV Channel 32.

Streaming: Fans may stream the broadcast from Buccaneers.com or on a mobile device using the Buccaneers official app or NFL+. Geographic restrictions apply.

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region (Transmisiones de radio en español en WTMP-FM 96.1 y WMGG-AM 1470 en Tampa). Additional stations throughout Florida on the Buccaneers Radio Network can be found here. The game will also be broadcast on SiriusXM Channel 383 (Buccaneers Radio Network broadcast feed).

Weather: Football weather in western Pennsylvania! Pittsburgh is an awesome tailgate experience, adjacent to downtown Pittsburgh. Joe will never forget the scene he saw once a couple of blocks from Heinz Field (yes, Joe knows what’s not what the Steelers’ crib is called these days) and seeing a fog hanging over the parking lots from all the grills going. The locals tailgate hard here and are proud of their tailgating. If Bucs fans join them, they will experience temperatures in the high-40s, per AccuWeather.com. That will warm up quickly and by the time kickoff comes around, it should be 64. By the time the game ends it should be 67 and time to get back to the tailgate. Bring your sweatshirt!

Odds: Per BetMGM, as of noon Saturday, Bucs -9.5; over/under 46.

Referees: In a previous post, Joe wondered if he should bet the over with all the injuries to both teams’ secondaries. Per Sharp Football Analysis, today’s referee Shawn Smith’s track record suggests that’s a smart move. Smith’s gang doesn’t like offensive holding calls (fewest in 2021) but does like pass interference calls (fifth-most in 2021). With the Steelers playing three backups in its defensive backfield going against Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, it just screams guys grabbing Evans and Godwin out of frustration. As for the Bucs giving 9.5 points (as of noon Saturday), well, home teams in games Smith has worked are 26-36 against the spread.

Injuries:  Bucs — Out: DT Akiem Hicks (foot), DB Sean Murphy-Bunting (quad), DB Logan Ryan (foot). Questionable: WR Julio Jones (knee). Doubtful: S Mike Edwards (elbow). Steelers Out: S Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee), TE Pat Freiermuth (concussion), DE DeMarvin Leal (knee), CB Cameron Sutton (hamstring), CB Levi Wallace (concussion), CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring).

Outlook: Joe has a feeling Tom Brady may have his best game of the season. The Steelers are down their top three corners as well All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. So now your best corner is a No. 4 guy and you also lost an All-Pro in the secondary and you are going to try to stop Mike Evans and Chris Godwin? Good luck with that. And the Bucs may need to light up the scoreboard. The Bucs have injuries in the secondary too, though none should be as severe as the Steelers. Joe thinks Chase Claypool and George Pickens are damn good receivers so they could give the Bucs some problems. With the Bucs’ pass rush likely doomed with Shaq Barrett’s illness, this could help Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett as he should have more time as a result. Fans who crave defensive football might want to load up on Bromosa for this game.

Fun facts: The Bucs offense has struggled (especially compared to the past three years) but Tom Brady has not. You may not be aware of this but Brady leads the NFC in passing (and fourth overall) with 1,409 yards thrown.

It would be wonderful is the Bucs win by 0.05 points. There is no team better than the Bucs at coming into a game where they are the huge favorite with all the talent advantage, come out flatter than a soggy crepe and let the other team have all kinds of openings. The Bucs can seriously lose this game. The OL has to run block. They’ve shown they can’t, which is compounded by Leftwurst’s insistence of running Lenny behind run sieve Goedeke. The OL has to pass block. Misleading stats indicate they can but Brady is unloading the ball at light speed because he doesn’t trust them and said so on his podcast if you were listening.

Our defense is without the only brain on it, Logan Ryan. Todd will craft some gameplan that required a Cray Supercomputer three days to interpret, rather than letting his guys just play simple and fast.

Bet the under. Steelers to cover.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

Ronde’s video there was fantastic. I don’t get why the Bucs don’t have two cuts of these, one longer and then the short ones they actually post. I could listen to Ronde for an hour break down footage of the game.

    Likewise. Love me some Rondé.

Would be great to see Scooter finally get a DPI.

  5. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

Wow, AW went a long way on that tackle in the flat that Rondé covered. And he had a beautiful tackle, getting his head across the body, textbook style. I’m talking to you, Devin!

  6. D-Rok Says:

Agree, Rod. Ronde has some of the best Bucs content that is truly football related. He throws in some X’s and O’s and shows you concepts, as well as individual good or bad plays. I love that he shows us why it was a good play.

    Great stuff!

  7. Captain Oblivious Says:

Don’t forget that TJ Watt is out which should help the Bucs pass defense immensely. Brady should have time for some medium/deep passes today. Look for him to throw 350 yards with 3 TDs and 1 frustrating int.

Joe.. how are you going to do me like this.. I won’t switch teams but for her I sure as hell would pretend to be a Steelers fan. 😇🙉🙈

Remember when Mike Glennon went up to Pittsburgh and shredded the Steelers?
Tom has to do at least that good. 😇
