Dumb Team = Dumb Penalties

October 28th, 2022

Poor discipline.

The Bucs won 29 games combined in 2020 and 2021, with Tom Brady leading the offense, so it’s hard to label the Bucs a dumb team.

But man, they sure act like it at times.

Currently, the Bucs rank No. 7 penalties per game. You wouldn’t have guessed it last night against Baltimore.

The Bucs were trying to pull within 24-20 with roughly five minutes left. The Bucs got to the Baltimore-6 and on third down — and here comes the yellow hanky on Donovan Smith for holding.

Back up 10 yards.

On the next play, the Bucs got the ball to the Baltimore-3 when Brady connected with Julio Jones. On fourth-and-three from the three, Playoff Lenny got popped with a false start. The Bucs then settled for a field goal.

It is plays like that which seem to have plagued the Bucs in the red zone. Remember the delay of game against the Packers when the Bucs were going for two to try to send the game into overtime?

Maddening!

The Bucs will never get over the hump and win the division (Wild card??? Ha!) if they keep throwing up on themselves in the red zone.

This is a direct reflection on failing Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. He must get these guys to play more disciplined. But he cannot because he doesn’t know how. Otherwise, this crap would not continue like this.

Time to see if BA will be a OC get rid of leftwhich. It makes you wonder about the red sharpie incident last year.

Heads gotta roll! Byron’s would be an excellent start.

  6. BucsfanFred Says:

Can we talk about the draft now?
Who would be a good replacement coach?
Do you think we could get the hated Sean Payton?

  7. BucsfanFred Says:

Time to flush the whole damn toilet.

  8. steele Says:

Dumb is Dee Delaney’s spectacular blooper reel special teams turnover, like he forgot which team he was playing for.

Dumb is Devin White doing everything wrong, but aggressively.

Dumb is Bowles and Leftwich in charge, dumbing the entire team down, resulting in a culture of “quiet quitting”, and losing.

  9. BucsfanFred Says:

But, HEY!!! We scored 22 mother luvin points!
Ain’t that the second most we’ve scored all year?

  10. FortMyersDave Says:

So I wonder if JoeBoltsFan will come back?? At least the Bolts look like they are trying to win. Yep, the penalties are on the OC and the muffed punt on the Not-So-Speial Teams coach. Leftwich and the ST coach have to be fired today!

  11. MadMax Says:

Anyone want to argue against me? we’re tanking right? all good if so

  12. Defense Rules Says:

Interesting perspective Joe. On the night the Bucs had 4 penalties for 35 yards; Ravens had 7 penalties for 101 yards. So they had almost twice as many penalties and almost 3 times as many yards penalized … yet they won. Wonder if they’re writing ‘Dumb Team = Dumb Penalties’ up in Ravenland this morning.

All season long this Bucs’ team has kept beating itself. Drives stalling out because of poor throws, or bad playcalls, or runs being stuffed or penalties or whatever. Bad teams find ways to lose; Bucs are a bad team suffering from too many injuries, too little depth, and lacking TALENT, DISCIPLINE & LEADERSHIP in the product we’re currently putting on the field.

One good thing will eventually come out of this: it’ll become even clearer over the rest of the season who we should build around for 2023 & beyond. If only we had the salary CAP space & draft picks to FIX this mess quickly. We don’t.

  13. FortMyersDave Says:

MadMax: I do not think franchises like the Saints and Bucs have to tank; they lose pretty well on their own but the inept and predictable play calling is a form of “coach” tanking even if it is not intentional but just the actions of a bunch of inept nimrods aka the head coach and his coordinators. I suspect if Leftwich is not fired by Sunday it can be acknowledged that the Bucs are tanking and that the Glazers are content to let Toilet Bowels run the team to 4-13 or so and start the rebuild in the offseason. Sux for TB12 but he signed on for this swan song.

  14. Roc Says:

    Really now it’s penalties

    Wait it’s the OLine

    Wait it’s injuries

No No it’s the team had to come together

MAYBE the Bucs should start picking COACHES for their ability to Win ????

The Bucs have replaced TWO SB coaches with LOSERS

  15. MadMax Says:

Its by design DR, you know I love you man, you’re the best on this site. If its not by design then where am I lost at?….probably a tekillya away…thats where they are…might as well join them.

  16. Onetrickpony Says:

I don’t feel so good, I’m sick and about to throw up after watching this. Defenders think they are in the WWF and trying to wrestle them down ,instead of a thing, called tackle. We need new offence, defence and special teams coaches, with replacements who actually know “something”.

  17. BucsfanFred Says:

This whole fish stinks from the head coach down!
Keep: Jason Licht, Tristan Wirfs, Antoine Winfield, and a few young players.
Flush bowels, leftbi*ch, and the whole staff.
    Hire Sean Payton

  18. DungyDance Says:

The first and second drives looked like they were designed by someone else. The rest was vintage BL.

    “Stubborn and dumb.”

  19. Oneilbuc Says:

Brady suck to and y’all don’t want to hold him accountable for nothing if this any other quarterback the lost will be his fault. I’m ready to see Kyle Trask forget Brady it’s time for him to retire.

  20. Wild Bill Says:

Stick a fork in it. This season is already over. And Brady looks terrible. Missing open receivers. One play late in the game really stood out. Brady had Evans wide open deep across the middle and he threw the ball into the dirt about 5 yards short of Mike. There were many other throws by Brady that were off target. Brady does not look like himself. And the Ravens beat down the Bucs with old style smash mouth running and a QB who made multiple pin point passes that gashed the Bucs especially in the second half. Turn out the lights the party is OVER!

  21. Leopold Stotch Says:

    NO TO BO!

  22. AKicknTheBucNuts Says:

    Dumb OC = BL

  23. SufferingSince76 Says:

Yeah, oneilbuc. Brady is the problem. And you wonder why no one takes you seriously.

  24. JP Says:

it is time to Tank !
Help the panthers win NFC south.
Brady ain’t helping nobody with the SB.
If we lost Barrett we are done.
Let’s get a good QB in the draft to rebuild.

  25. SufferingSince76 Says:

Here comes another lost decade. Bank on it.

  26. Oddball Says:

Oh $h1t the draft! Fred’s going there already.

  27. Bucsfan13 Says:

Ask yourself: If this team had a better OL and OC, would this offense still struggle? If the answer is no, then Brady is not the central problem of this offense. Every QB literally has bad throws!! I saw Mahomes on a TNF game against the Chargers a month ago throw almost 4 picks?! And he won the damn game. You know why? Because Andy Reid is a damn genius.

People have asserted that Brady left his wife and kids to play football, and yet they say he’s not all in. The cognitive dissonance is amazing. Brady making poor passes has NOTHING to do with Gisele.

  28. Bucfan Says:

    Great 2nd half adjustments!

  29. ViSyl Says:

As I said yesterday, Ravens came improved after halftime, Bucs came worse. Very clear whose fault it is. Fire these clowns coachs.

  30. Faspro Says:

Yep, the coaching is bad; really bad.

  31. Bucobill99 Says:

    Bring back the red marker

  32. Buc king Says:

Can Bruce just step in and run the offense

  33. Shipwrecked Says:

Glazers love their diversity hires! Save a ton of $$, look woke, super inclusive. All the BS fans don’t care about. Get a real coach with real staff. Preferably some coaches that don’t have a mumble rap speech impediment!

  34. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Shipwrecked. I have my issues with the coaches, but there is no need for you to invoke racial overtones.

  35. BucU Says:

I couldn’t care less what this team does for the rest of the year. Blow it up and start over.
This entire coaching staff and older players should be dismissed. Super Bowl Champs to toilet bowl Champs. I’ve had just about enough of the 2022 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

For those of you who think BA will step in and run the offense…..think again….

He has mentored Byron & Bowles & will do nothing to assist if they are canned.

  37. Marine Buc Says:

Sorry folks but BL will NOT be fired.

Todd Bowles doesn’t have the minerals to make that move… We are stuck with this pathetic offense until we lose our last game…

  38. Allen Lofton Says:

If the players see a problem with coaching and nothing is done – It effects the teams and it shows!!!

  39. T REX Says:

@shipwrecked – Joe, can you get the Klan members off of here. It is pretty disgusting. Our fanbase has way too many goobers. SMDH

  40. tampabayallday Says:

    SO MUCH LOGIC

  41. Dooley Says:

I think we need to start holding grown men accountable for making on the job mistakes, and do away with this notion that is BL directly responsible for players drawing penalites like he’s Miss Frizzle or some A.m. Kindergarten teacher. They’re all grown a** men, it’s alright to leave it at Donovan Smith & Lenny fncked up majorly at a crucial point in the game and they need to do better moving forward.

  42. Defense Rules Says:

Marine Buc … ‘Sorry folks but BL will NOT be fired. Todd Bowles doesn’t have the minerals to make that move.’

Might be wrong, but I don’t think it’s up to Bowles at this point. Glazers have a HUGE investment in this team, and you can be sure they know precisely what’s going on (I doubt that fans or the media have all the facts at this point). Sacrificing BL would be an easy decision for them; much easier than sacrificing Bowles as HC AND DC plus also BL as the OC. Change all that top leadership simultaneously and this team will spiral out of control, even more-so than it already is.

Personally I’d expect the GM to be making PERSONNEL hiring & firing decisions, after consultation with team ownership & the HC (plus BA more than likely in our case). Bowles problem right now is that he appears to have zero offensive oversight, and that’s a real bad situation to be in. I consider him to be a strong DEFENSIVE coach, but dual-hatting a DC as a HC can only work if you have a very strong OC to take care of that side of the ball. Ask Tony Dungy.

  43. Defense Rules Says:

Wild Bill … Brady’s throws last night were very uncharacteristic of him. Overthrowing, in the dirt, behind receivers … and he had time to make the throws. We’ve heard reports since Game 1 that his finger is screwed up, that he has a shoulder problem, that he’s lost a lot of weight, etc, etc. TB12 now looks like the typical OLD QB who stayed a year too long.

IF he’s hurt, and we don’t know that for sure, he needs to sit for the rest of the season. At 3-5 we’re still in the NFC South running (disgustingly tied for 1st actually), but we’re in a downward spiral that shows no signs of letting up. IF he’s hurt, let’s find out NOW what Kyle Trask has. IF he’s NOT the answer, then we draft a QB with our #1 pick. IF he appears to be the answer at QB, then we can use our top pick to draft a another priority NEED, like DE/OLB or a LB to replace LVD or White, or whatever. But the time to find out is NOW, not wait until next preseason.

  44. BFFL5678 Says:

Brady has looked off even before he got some of his injuries. He has thrown the ball low all season long so guys have to the ground to get them. He puts the ball way out in front of the receiver if it was one receiver you can say miss communication but almost all that’s on the QB. I don’t want hear anything about the line yes they can’t run block but they have given him plenty of time through out all these games. I have said this before start clearing cap space for next year and get in the biding war for Lamar. Last night was a proven fact if we had a QB who can run it would open up this offense. This season you can see where a mobile QB could have taken off who 10-15 yards which would also open up the run game.

  45. Jack Sparrow Says:

TRade Brady to the Saints. They will be very happy to take hm. We get Jaymiss back…. LOL!!!

  46. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

You can blame the offense, defense, or this player or that player but it all starts with the HC. there is something wrong when the coaches can’t get the team motivated.

  47. Tye Says:

I totally agree, if the players recognize their losing is do to coaching, if those coaches aren’t removed, the players will just go through the motions and slack till the end…

  48. Rod Munch Says:

The Donovan Smith hold was not a stupid or bad play.

Brady ran out of the pocket, past Smith, and if Smith lets the guy go, he’s going to clobber Brady from behind and probably lead to a strip-sack, and maybe break Brady in half.

On that play, Smith literally did the right thing and didn’t let his QB get killed.

On the false start, I had the Prime Vision version of the game going and they only quickly showed a replay, but it sure didn’t appear that Fournette moved at all. I didn’t really hear people in the chat complaining about it, so I assume it was the right call, but on the one replay I saw it didn’t look legit.

  49. Listnfrmafar Says:

Oneilsuckyall, every sports media talking head is talking about how Brady has lost 3 games in a row. They aren’t talking about D. White, Delaney, Evan’s, BL bad.playcalling, all they are talking about.is how Brady is under 500 and has.never lost 3 games in a row. So get your head out of your prejudice arse and GO AWAY!!!

  50. Goatfarmer Says:

The time for incremental tweaks is past. Throw the tards into the abyss. You have 9 days until your next loss – I mean game.

Incidentally, do these injuries to Hicks, Julio, Logan Ryan really tell the story? Or are they saying “this team is full of itself and I’m not breaking my body for these rolls of Charmin.”

    Asking for friends.

  51. Coley Says:

Bad coaching=dumb penalties and bad play.

  52. garro Says:

I havent seen this level of inneptitude since the 76-77 Bucs teams. Running into you’re own kick returner?!? Even the 76-77 defenses rarely looked so overmatched. At least those defenses showed toughness and heart. didnt see much of either against the ravens. How D White didnt get benched is beyond me. Walking away from your HC because he is calling you out. This Asshat needs to go hang out with AB the rest of the season. Remember Keyshawn getting fired by Gruden LOL
