Don’t Expect A Drastic Move Immediately

October 23rd, 2022

Team Glazer.

Joe got this a lot on Twitter this afternoon, so Joe will address the subject here.

Joe was being asked, often, today if the Bucs are going to roll heads? If someone is going to be sacrificed as a result of today’s p!ss-poor effort in Charlotte?

Unlikely.

Now that is not to say someone should not be held responsible for this year’s offensive debacle. Joe thinks everyone can all guess who Joe is referring to.

That’s unlikely to happen tonight or tomorrow. Remember, the Bucs have a game Thursday night. That’s an awfully quick turnaround. To do that with a new offensive coordinator, even if that is a promotion from within, would be really, really radical and might just blow up any chance to win Thursday night.

After Thursday? In Joe’s eyes, all bets are off if the Bucs lose to the Crows while the offense is once again disgustingly bad.

Let’s put it this way: Joe would be surprised if the offensive coaching staff is still intact when the Bucs board a plane to Munich if the offense stinks in yet another loss Thursday night.

Joe is not saying this will happen, but Joe expects something to happen if this offensive stink continues.

Waiting to pull the trigger until the bye week (after the Seahawks game in Munich) might be too late. Thank goodness this division stinks out loud.

Well time to lose to Baltimore too. I can’t see this team beating anyone right now. Dead serious that is not an exaggeration we just lost to the worst teams in the league back to back.

  3. HC Grover Says:

I expect a drastic move right now. Today. They can not get any worse.

  4. Knucknbuc Says:

Lol this team doesn’t deserve to make the playoffs that’s for sure

  5. I’m not tired anymore we just won the Super Bowl!! Says:

Why would you not? We need drastic change now! Arians OC! Go Bucs!

  6. Rod Munch Says:

As stated elsewhere, just have Brady run a hurry up offense, take Leftwich completely out of the loop, let Brady call the game at the LOS.

Or just pubicly put Brady on the trading block. He’s move a ton of jerseys and give an owner a huge bragging point, and would get a big return because of that. Also I don’t think there is anything wrong with Brady, he’s just saddled with terrible coaches and clearly has no confidence in them.

  7. Jerseybuc Says:

We are not winning Thursday with this staff currently. Can chalk that up right now. We lose Thursday guaranteed

  8. Cchead Says:

Glazes have no choice if they want to turn this season around, fire Bowles and Leftwich. Period.

  9. BucU Says:

I wash my hands of this organization until they get a real NFL coaching staff. I fold.

The Ravens will kill us on National TV this Thursday.

  11. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Disagree, Christensen knows the playbook and should replace Leftwich asap. Send a goddamn message to the players and other coaches that everyone’s job is on the line. If they keep playing like crap against the Ravens then become sellers before the trade deadline.

The Ravens tend to play down to their competition, so I doubt we get killed. But they will lose.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

    *they = Bucs

  14. SufferingSince76 Says:

Only a dramatic drop in gate receipts will make the Glazers move. Everyone below them are too stubborn (or stupid) to admit they are wrong.

  15. Couch Fan Says:

Maybe the Glazers will surprise us. They do try to win. I will give them that.

  16. mark2001 Says:

Probably right Joe. But at least.. at the very least.. we should trade some players to pick up some draft picks for the next HC and cut some cap overhead. That move would at least help us transition to the future. Why in the world would we reward bad coaching with more talent that they can squander? Or limp into the playoffs and end up with a 20 something draft pick in every round, a salary cap squeeze, and attempting to hire a quality new HC?

  17. mark2001 Says:

Rod…. I remember sitting in an airport and finding out the Ravens absolutely killed us, like 50 to 3 some years back. They have always been a physical team… just the kind of team that usually does that to us, when it happens.

  18. IE Buc Says:

A loss is a loss. If everyone knows the offense is going to stink so bad as to be an inevitable loss on Thursday, why not make the change now? Waiting to make the change after the inevitable makes no sense. It might not have to be a loss if what is needed is change, but waiting to change will give us a one more loss.

  19. Thadeus Says:

Looks like there needs to be a coaching change in Tampa. Boles was a bad idea from the start. But Tampa wants to show everyone how “inclusive” they are and looky at us for hiring a black man for the top spot. Regardless of the fact he’s No head coach. Instead of looking for O- line help to help The GOAT, he’d rather sign washed up receivers like Godwin, Jones, Rudolph, and Gage. And STILL wanting to sign OBJ who’s had TWO ACL tears. Defense has been terrible. When you give up that many points to the Panthers WITHOUT their best player, something needs to change.
You can tell Tom’s head isn’t in the game either. His heart might be, but thanks to that “C” Jezebel Bitchen not living up to her vowels of Honor and OBEY he’s not 100.
I bet BA is having a great laugh with all of this. With BA the Bucs would mostly likely be 7-0 or even 6-1.

  20. TiredBucsFan Says:

They have to get rid of Bowles too. I’m so tired of hearing the players just didn’t execute. WTF the coaching didn’t prepare them, coaches are being out done every game. Even in the 3 wins we have.

  21. Defense Rules Says:

I agree with Tampabuscsbro; can’t see this team beating anyone right now. That was the sorriest job of offensive coaching I’ve seen in a long time. And for anyone who focused on the OLine blocking, it was abysmal. Brady knew they couldn’t protect the pocket & he was playing scared. Where it showed up was in 3rd & 4th down efficiency … 2-for-12 on 3rd down and 1-for-3 on 4th down. You don’t win football games by converting on only 20% of your 3rd & 4th down opportunities. That’s disgusting.

Hard to win football games by rushing 16 times for only 46 yards too (2.9 YPC). That represented a 24.6% run-pass ratio & you don’t win very many football games if the other team KNOWS you can’t run. When you can’t run-block OR pass-block, it’s time to look at different personnel and different coaches.

It’s also hard to win football games when you can’t stop the other team from rushing effectively. Panthers ran 27 times for 173 yards (6.4 YPC). That’s truly disgusting, but to be expected since it’s been happening all season long. And THAT’S on Jason Licht for who he’s manned this DLine with & for destroying the DLine leadership in the process IMO.

  22. Ash Says:

Joe it is hilarious that you think this team has a chance to beat the ravens it’s better to face the facts sooner than later it literally can’t get any worse fire promote do anything and everything this isn’t it.

  23. Anonymous Says:

I’ve only been able to actually SEE two games (one was Steelers) it didn’t appear that Brady’s skills have dropped that much

  24. Beej Says:

I’ve only been able to see two games (one of which was Pittsburgh) Didn’t appear to me Brady’s skills have dropped off that much

  25. WTF Bucs Says:

Coaching staff needs to go. Bowles should never be HC again in nfl and Leftwich might one day in far future might be. Hey Hey Terrible Bay!!!

  26. GABucsFan Says:

You don’t go changing coaches unless you are throwing in the towel for the season (and we may be there). If you are going to sack coaches, then trade players and build for the future. We got a lot of has beens with no fire.

  27. stpetebucfan Says:

D.R. I rarely disagree with you but I do not think pass pro by the OL was the worst problem. I was more disturbed by their repeated inability to get a single yard running the ball.

There were many times that TB12 had plenty of time to survey the field…dropped TD passes do not help…Gage has been erratic…CG14 is still getting up to speed in terms of his connection with Brady.

I certainly do not dismiss Leftwich’s culpability. But TB12 has just as much input into the game plan and schemes as Leftwich and has since he arrived. BA may have occasionally pulled rank on TB12 but let’s face it. Tom gets what Tom wants in terms of calls.

Something is clearly wrong with Brady. His body language is awful and he still keeps grasping at his throwing hand. OR…perhaps the text from Giselle that said “I told you so Tommy!”

If the Bucs are looking for better coaching hire a freaking Proctologist to help these guys pull their heads out of their rectums. Their noggins seem stuck right now. Last week our best defensive player commits the cementhead play of the year and today ME13 drops an easy TD.

In addition the WR’s and TB12 seem out of synch. They are not where Brady expects them to be on far too many plays.

  28. Davenport Says:

    Ravens (loss)

    – TRADE DEADLINE –

    Rams (loss)

    Seahawks (loss)

3 & 7 and the firing of Bowles, Leftwich, Arians because, out of loyalty, he won’t go along with the changes.

    – BYE –

  29. Defense Rules Says:

St Pete … I’ve never seen Brady as uncomfortable in the pocket as he was today. Without a running game (mostly because of terrible run-blocking), Brady’s relegated to throwing mostly short passes. He has zero mobility & he knows he’ll get killed if he doesn’t get rid of the ball quickly. The results manifested themselves in the Bucs converting only 3 of 15 opportunities on 3rd & 4th down. 20% conversions is a prescription for losing every time, unless your defense happens to get a lot of turnovers that the offense takes advantage of. That didn’t happen today.

Sad thing to me is that I can’t see this thing changing. They sat Goedeke today in favor of Leverett, and the OLine blocking was still abysmal. And without good blocking, Brady is just a statue back there. And a statue is a statue, I don’t care what his past achievements are. The same with Fournette; without good blocking, he’s no more effective than a dancing bear back there (and he is getting pretty good at dancing it looks like).

I just wish people would start holding the architect of this mess accountable. Folks didn’t hesitate to praise Licht for the great OLine that we had in 2020 & 2021. It wasn’t the coaching staff that got the accolades, it was Licht. Now that the OLine couldn’t block its way out of a wet paper bag, all of a sudden it’s the coaching staff’s fault? Sorry, no. This is the same Licht who spent what few dollars we had left on aging, oft-injured veterans like Hicks ($8 mil), Julio ($6 mil) & Rudolph ($2 mil), re-signed an oft-injured Davis for $15 mil, an injured Godwin for over that, and an out-of-shape Vea for closer to $20 mil. Plus an injured Gage for another $10 mil.

And oh Lordy, I forgot all about our 45-year-old QB, who Licht signed to a 2022 base salary of $1,120,000 and a signing bonus of $28,880,000, while carrying a cap hit of $11,896,000 and a Dead CAP value of $47 mil. I hope everyone let’s that sink in … a Dead CAP of $47 mil. We’ll be paying for that for many years to come. But ya, let’s find a suitable scapegoat and everything will be OK.

  30. sasquatch Says:

I’ll be shocked if Leftwich is yanked at any point during the season, no matter how bad things get. I would be be pleasantly shocked. This is a disgrace. I don’t know anything about Kevin Garver (WR coach), but he’s been mentioned as an up-and-coming possible OC they think highly of. Screw it, give the guy a shot. Could he do worse than Lefty? I doubt it. I don’t expect it to happen, but I’d support it.

  31. Pewter Power Says:

If you let pj walker in his 4th do that to you, Lamar Jackson will destroy this defense and have a career game

  32. Ed Says:

Sure reminds me of the Lovie Smith days

  33. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Fire TB&BL, don’t even let them on the team plane home. Let Tom Moore, remember him take over play calling from the booth. Prompt Larry Foote to Interim head coach. He spent years playing for good coaches in a class organization. I bet he is more than capable of doing better than this.

  34. Tom Sumner Says:

Bring back some nuts and BA… WTF /??

  35. Power of Pewter Says:

I haven’t seen any indication the team is improving, let alone about to turn the corner. While a .500 record probably wins the division, it’s not going to win any playoff games.

  36. SlyPirate Says:

    Remember WHY BA stepped down?

Because this was a great team he was handing to Bowles. It was as close to guaranteed success as you can get.

  37. matthew veal Says:

Most of this softness was evident at the end of last year.
It’s possible BA left w Bowles as the best hope to get this fixed. Don’t expect a coaching change.
The moves Jason made haven’t worked this year,
It was hoped the new guys would have time but they don’t time to learn on the job.

All that’s left is to try something no one else is doing. Don’t use a tight end. Drop more players in coverage on defense. Let the personnel dictate things. And if you aren’t producing, be replaced by other guys here or other teams.

    Bye bye miller and darden.

    Fight.

  38. ClwJB Says:

You can’t bring BA in to be the OC under Bowles – that isn’t happening and the players aren’t buying it

If we lose the next 3 they clean house

If we lose the next two badly, it might be earlier and that is likely exactly what will happen

These players could care less about these coaches – their play shows a total lack of respect – call it passion or effort – at this level it’s respect and not one coach has it

  39. FortMyersDave Says:

Fire Leftwich, the dude is as dense as Mike Snith as far as adjusting goes, Smith did not care, I believe Leftwich to be incompetent, the dude is a moron, he has to go!
