“A Shocking Win”

October 16th, 2022

Disgraceful.

How much of a kick in the balls was this loss by the Bucs? Leave it to none other than the voice of the Steelers to sum it up.

As Joe headed to the elevator in the final seconds of today’s game to the depressed Bucs locker room (Joe didn’t see any displays of anger), the foyer by the elevator was piping in the Steelers’ radio broadcast — long-time Steelers play-by-play man Bill Hillgrove.

“A shocking win by the Steelers!”

Yes, even the radio voice of the Steelers could not believe it.

A team with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Tom Brady was held out of the end zone for 55-plus minutes. The same defense that was without its top three cornerbacks and its All-Pro safety.

And still the Bucs could not score.

Of course, it wasn’t like the Bucs tried to test the decimated Steelers secondary. Evans was targeted four times — four! And none that Joe can recall in the end zone.

But boy, the Bucs sure ran it on first down. Time after time after time and never got anywhere.

It didn’t matter that the Steelers were playing with trash in the secondary, let’s run the ball — on first down!

Plainly and simply, the Bucs gave this game away with awful coaching on offense. Just inexcusable coaching. And trust that Joe will have more to say about this before the sun sets. A lot more!

That flushing sound you hear are NFL owners purging their offices of Byron Leftwich’s resumé for potential head coach openings.

    The NFL IS RIGGED…

This is all about the Gamblers now. FOLLOW THE MONEY!!!

  2. Rod Munch Says:

Leftwich is mron who needs to be fired. He’s trash.

  3. SKBucsFan Says:

Now we have to face a pi$$ed-off Ravens team next week that lost today. This doesn’t get any better.

  4. Buddy Says:

Looks like Jeff was correct from his post. Lol

  5. LakelandSteve Says:

Nobody played well except Ryan Succop. Brady looked like crap, the defense looked like crap, and even the guy driving the team bus on the way to the game spilled his coffee this morning. Say whatever you want about the players because they didn’t execute but this coaching staff SUCKS!

  6. Agreewithjoe Says:

The play calling is horrible. I can’t remember watching a team with so little creativity on offense. The online sucks but there is a lot of talent at the skilled positions. This loss to the Steelers is inexcusable.

  7. BucsBro Says:

It’s not a shock that early in this season there would be a lot of experimentation on offense. Many new pieces.

The sample size is large enough now. Yeah, guys haven’t been healthy (Julio, Gage, Brate), but it’s time for Byron to start making adjustments.

We can’t run up the middle, so don’t try it. Stop running on first down constantly. Get some variety in the calls and be less predictable. Perhaps use the hurry-up more often. Do more sweeps and tosses on runs and let guys find the hole. If you have to run and need someone to make yards from nothing, use White. Etc.

And whatever you do, make sure Brady is protected. Even if you need to go Max Protect to do it.

Brady is the key to the offense, especially since we can’t run. So time to make sure he stays clean and has time. That didn’t happen good enough against the Steelers, and it rattled Brady the whole game because he got hit early (which has always been the book on Brady and how to play him).

Brady was mad after the game. “We all have to look at ourselves in the mirror.”

    He’s right.

  8. firethecannons Says:

this man Byron Leftwich should be firmly on the hot seat but certainly he is not. Mike Smith the defensive coordinator for Dirk Koetter caused a lost season almost solely by himself and Byron Leftwich is no different. We have Tom Brady and we have Byron Leftwich–shameful–he cannot get this offense to do anything right.

  9. Knucknbuc Says:

Leftwich was so bad…. It’s hard to be this predictable honestly On offense I’m guessing almost every play correctly. What does arians do up there? Can he radio to em and say hey bl your crap is hella predictable you may want to switch it up!

  10. CrackWise Says:

Its ALL FAKE so WHO CARES!!!

Brady should call his own plays full time

  12. Adrnagy Says:

No play action thats for sure. Leftwhich playcalling belongs in high school.

You could literally get just about any high school kid playing Madden that could call a better game than this idiot.

  15. Francisco Guzman Says:

Mediocre coaching staff. Hard to overcome that. Why on earth did they hire Bowles😭

  16. William Walls Says:

Does BL just have the one game plan?

  17. ModHairKen Says:

    Rod Munch, right as usual.

Will anything change? Will this guy who was HANDED a chance at redemption after the Jets do anything?

No. 9-8. Barely make playoffs. Brady leaves. Team falls apart. 4-13 next year. 6-11 next year. Then a new coach.

    Pathetic.

  18. Kentucky Buc Says:

It’s simple math. One team is playing with 4 downs. The other is playing with 3 and sometimes 2.

  19. William Walls Says:

Yep. Then it’ll be wash coaching staff. Rinse coaching staff. Repeat.

We’ve seen it all before, haven’t we?

  20. lambeau Says:

Coaching is important–see the Patriots today for a brilliant game plan which produced a resounding beatdown of a superior opponent. The Bucs don’t really seem to game plan.

  21. DooshLaRue Says:

    Cupcake opponents…….sure wins……… tune-up games.
Whoever said that is LITERALLY an idiot.

    LITERALLY

  22. Sean Says:

So this is maybe a 9-8 team. That may be enough to win the division but then what? Bounced out at home by a wildcard team? I don’t what personnel move they can make but they better do something or Brady’s going to be a 49er next year.

    ——–

Every series STARTS with 2nd and long thanks to this idiot Leftwich and his completely predictable, terrible, playcalling.

  24. HC Grover Says:

to me expected….fire all top line coaches tonight. then hire new 2morro and fire all assistants…thies new assistants tuesday then practice til saturday. ,,,,otherwise we are basement bound

  25. Francisco Guzman Says:

To waste a year with this coaching staff is brutal.

  26. SOGGY Says:

I usually do not complain but the bucs are getting worse not better.. Hope it gets fixed soon.. CMON BUCS….

  27. William Walls Says:

One thing’s for sure… everyone who said that Arians didn’t mean much as a head coach has been hugely exposed.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

The hope here, the only hope, is that this is the Bears game in 2020.

But the team had Arians at the time, not these loser idiots running the team now.

If Brady can overcome these dolts, anyone who claims he’s not the best player, of any sport, ever, will be outed as a bigger idiot than Leftwich.

  29. Listnfrmafar Says:

Can the Bucs fire any coaches? Think about firing 50 the money they would save.

  30. Chuckstutz Says:

    Bullspit

  31. Yucs2Bucs Says:

TB12 dealt with BB for years, but Bruce broke him in 2 years and would only come back if Todd was the coach ? Byron is a joke and as a long time BUCS fan I’m embarrassed and if I was the GM I would sit the entire D and put the backups in to make a point !!! No leadership and this past draft was horrible because look at the picks we could of had. Lastly Brady needs to focus on his family and obviously get his torn labrum fixed, but throw in the towel and trade these overpaid FAs and start over !!!! Give Peyton whatever he wants to come in next year and build a real team and not some overrated group who got a Super Bowl ring because the NFL is fixed

  32. Whoolio? Says:

Michael Clayton’s endorsement of Leftwich is really looking good now. Maybe he’s recruiting him for OC of his terrible high-school team. That’s where Leftwiches style of offensive play calling belongs.

  33. Redeemer Says:

Half the offense was little dump offs to LF. They can’t run, passing game is completely out of sync. Time to hit the panic button. Something is desperately wrong with this group. It starts at the top.

  34. Kody Says:

    I said it ALL WEEK.

That the Steelers were gonna be so fired up to win this game and if we didn’t bring massive energy, fire and passion we were gonna be in trouble.

So what do we do, just come in with no fire, no passion, and go 3-and-out on our first possession. Then proceed to never get fired up the whole game. Suck in nearly every red zone situation. And let Pitt convert 2 MASSIVE 3rd downs to the SAME BUCKING RECEIVER on back to back possessions to win the game.

    PATHETIC

NEVER seen a team with less fire and passion every freaking game than the Bucs.

  35. Kentucky Buc Says:

Rod Munch. Agreed. At this point just take a knee on first down and save Lenny the punishment.

Bowles should move Leftwich from the sideline to the booth and make him call the game from there, maybe he’d do better, he literally can not do any worse. Then, after another game or two of Leftwich being an idiot, he can just strip him of play calling duties.

If Bowles just refuses to do anything on offense with Leftwich, then yes, he is absolutely to blame.

The defense, outside of the Chiefs game, has done their job. The problems have all been on offense, and mostly the God awful playcalling.

  37. Davenport Says:

How often do you get to witness a coach, who received far too much media hype, throw his career away within two months? Leftwich a fraud and has been exposed.

  38. orlbucfan Says:

Sure wasn’t shocking to me. I expected it. The Defense probably saw that fossil missed Brate wide open on the first possession. These guys are pros and they’re not stupid.

  39. Redeemer Says:

@Kody, yup you right. I thought they’d handle a bad Steelers team easy. This outfit has no pulse right now. Guess we know why Bowles and BL didn’t get head coaching gigs

  40. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Rod you said last week we will the next 3 and get back the mojo ? I’m sorry bro, but your credibility is lost

  41. Anonymous Says:

Run the same offense as last year . Play D same way played last year that all worked (except for the Kupp TD)
    Why change it wasn’t broke.

  42. Hodad Says:

Lefty will be on every G.M.’s Rooney rule list. No one would hire this guy.

  43. Coburn Says:

Was insane that they never targetted Evans in red zone. Also insane not to call timeout with that mass confusion on defense leading to a huge play and tweo declined penalties

  44. unbelievable Says:

I’m glad everyone is finally realizing what I’ve been saying for years.

Leftwich is not a good coordinator

  45. ForReal Says:

orlbucfan – still waiting on your first start bubba… Im sure you are the answer to our QB prayers

  46. Bucs Guy Says:

Did we try to throw the ball downfield at all? I don’t recall any 25+ yard attempts today.

  47. steele Says:

There was nothing “shocking” about this loss, or anything else we’re seeing.

This is a middling team, in all phases, poorly coached, lacking leadership, lacking individual and collective fire and discipline. Overhyped talent, underperforming across the board. Injuries, yes, but Steelers were also injured, worse, playing practice squad scrubs. Ugly truth: as “bad” as Steelers are, they are better coached than the Bucs, and played hard, way better.

We saw all this coming in the spring, even though many wanted to deny it. Key veterans lost have not been replaced properly, either in free agency or the draft. What should be an urgent all-in season—jeez an anticipated Super Bowl run—is a bland neither here nor there experiment with in-house JAGs, bad playcalling and weird vibes. When the schedule came out, given what wasn’t happening well in camp and preseason, that this is an 8-8 proposition at best, with a much worse record very possible. And here we are.

Powder puff defense, weak against both run and pass. Vea, awful. Poor pass rush, JTS, still fantastic at running fast around the pocket and not getting to the QB.

The “great” in-house JAG OL, including golden boy Hainsey and Goedeke, is mediocre to poor, and Brady can’t even disguise his disgust anymore. Every week, we get more evidence that Lenny is not a great feature back, and there is no one else on the roster who is, either.

Exactly what can be done at this point? Bowles, Leftwich are who they are. They’re committed to the underperformers, the non-instant impact rookies, and the injured veterans remain gimpy.

Brady wasn’t good today, but the main problem is that everything around him was terrible. Again, this was supposed to be an all-in season and a bulletproof team on both sides of the ball that a 45 yr old GOAT in his last season should manage easily without having to put games on his back. Instead, he’s in the middle of a mess.

  48. orlbucfan Says:

Does BL just have the one game plan?

Sure seems like it! Same plays every week. So predictable.

  50. Bucamania Says:

Just read this. In the second half the Bucs defense has faced:
    3rd & 11
    3rd & 15
    3rd & 13
    3rd & 15

    Steelers converted all of them

  51. unbelievable Says:

    @orlbucfan – neither are you.

You’ve been rooting against Brady since his first day here.
