Fast-Start Offense Will Win Game For Bucs

October 8th, 2022

It’s up to “12.”

Could the Dixie Chicks be the kryptonite of Todd Bowles’ defense? One analyst thinks so.

Derrik Klassen of Football Outsiders believes the Dixie Chicks’ bruising, run-between-the-tackles offense is what can negate Bowles and his devilish blitzes.

Simply put, Klassen types that Atlanta will keep the big uglies busy in the middle of the line. So trying to send a defensive back or perhaps a linebacker up against a big ol’ offensive lineman is often a mismatch in favor of the offense unless Bowles’ stunts can create open blitzing lanes.

… Todd Bowles’ defense is centered around being in nickel personnel and creating havoc up front with an assortment of unhinged pressures and blitzes. The best offensive counterpunch is to stay in base personnel and run the ball. Staying in base personnel puts heavier bodies on the field and limits some of Bowles’ creative pressure coverages, while running the ball from 12/21 personnel, especially from under center, can limit how creative defenses get with their fronts and dissuade them from chaotic early-down calls.

Arthur Smith has been doing that to defenses all season. The Falcons offense plays out of heavier personnel sets as much as they can and have run the ball exceptionally well. The offensive line looks much quicker and more explosive, especially at center, on top of the chemistry benefits of having another year in the system for the unit to gel. The Bucs are no slouches on run defense, but the Falcons should be able to stick to their game plan.

This sounds a lot like what the Chiefs did Sunday against the Bucs. But here is the difference: that two-bit gimmick runaround quarterback Marcus Mariota isn’t in the same universe as Pat Mahomes.

If the Bucs’ offense can get up early — and why shouldn’t they since Atlanta’s defense stinks out loud and the Bucs will have Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Russell Gage and the perpetually hurt Julio Jones (in theory) available — the Bucs shouldn’t have an issue scoring points.

Get up early on the Dixie Chicks and force that small forward masquerading as an NFL quarterback to throw. And watch the drops happen and the picks pile up.

    34-10

No one realizes the Bucs have clown stupid coaches. When they go 8-9 you’ll know then.

  8. Oneilbuc Says:

This will be a easy win..

  9. SB~LV Says:

Glad it’s a 1 o’clock game so we can get it out of the way. It should be a the first game of the season after pulling their collective heads out of their azzes . It should be the first building block for the rest of the season. I have NO IDEA what those first 4 games were .

Lol the hate for mariota and love for Winston. They both suck!!

  11. Dooley Says:

Slow starts were also a thing that needed to be sorted out back at the start of the 2020 season.

  12. Kody Says:

The thing is the Bucs don’t start fast. They need at least a half a game to get into the swing of things.

Go two minute from the jump. If Byromoron just flaccidly hands it to Lenny on 1st down my TV will be at the bottom of the pool.

No game is a easy win. Re-watched the KC game and came back with some new evaluations.
    1. Vea played much better in the 2nd half.
    2. KC went 13 for 17 on 3rd downs, two of them were after the strip sack, didn’t punt until 50 secs left in the game.
    3. White played ok but tackles way too high and Reid sent Kelce at him while in zone D. Total mismatch. Same with LVD, they had him covering Scantling.
    4. Mahomes flip passes could of easily been blown up or knocked down, one was a sack the other White over pursued.
    5. NO ONE checked Kelce.
    6. Bad call on Dean for holding and many holding calls on KC oline never called. I saw one play Nunez was body slammed.
    7. Goedeke holding call was BS, Jones put acting job on which killed the drive.
    8. BL’s running plays are the worst, you can’t sustain a drive going 2nd & 12 or 14.
    9. White is a good addition to the backfield.
    10. Davis got embarrassed all night.
    11. Hall didn’t play much, when he did he got manhandled.

KC is beatable, the GB game was a horrible showing, they are NOT a good team. Fans, if they lose to Atl your season could be over.

  15. Cobraboy Says:

This game will show what this team is.

I do not think the first four games are a tell.

But if Atlanta can come out and bash the Bucs up front…like GB and KC did…it’s gonna be a loooong game…and season.

I do not know how good this team is, and what they are made of. So far Bowles has disappointed. I saw no “genius” against the Packers or Chiefs. None. Zero.

And I see very little fire, and beyond a kerfuffle in NO, little emotion or “want to.”

So far I’ve been disappointed in how this team plays.

  16. Jerseybuc Says:

Falcons aren’t winning this game. We have to much for them to keep up. Play sound smart ball. Be victory Monday

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

Jersey@ I agree as long as some of these young players don’t think this way. To often some of these guys come out to cocky and it tends to bite them in the arse.

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

If you noticed when Greenbay runs, they get a second back or TE behind the runner to keep pushing them forward. If it’s a stand up without tackling the whole line comes in to push. KC was pushing their RBs a little too. This is a Thing! It needs to be studied because Andy Reid has it down pat. Tell me if I’m wrong or if anyone is seeing the same. I’ve seen pushes before, but never quick, in line calculated and so effective.

  19. Bucschamp Says:

I need an ass whooping win.

  20. firethecannons Says:

Would like to see us get a couple touchdowns ahead thereby forcing Falcons to throw which will lead to at least an interception and forced fumble. Predicting a final of 31 to 10

  21. Boulder66 Says:

I’m wondering if Bowles is cut out to be a head coach injuries or not the offense looks terrible they can’t run the ball the defense got stomped by Kansas City who just got beat bye the colts.
