Skip Bayless Picking Bucs But With Reservations

September 17th, 2022

Looking at a Bucs win.

Joe isn’t sure if this is the kiss of death or if the words of Skip Bayless should be embraced.

The co-host of the signature hollering show on FS1, “Undisputed,” believes the Bucs will finally prevail and wipe away the voodoo hex the slimy Saints have upon them.

But Bayless is scared. He is scared because he believes Tom Brady is scared for his life. Bayless said he could tell Brady didn’t want to be on the field Sunday night in Dallas without left tackle Donovan Smith, who suffered a hyperextended elbow early in the game.

And down a starting left tackle and with a rookie left guard, Bayless believes the slimy Saints are going to bring the kitchen sink from Brady’s backside and pummel the 45-year old so much that he’ll wish he is with Hanoi Jane making another awful movie.

“I don’t think he is going to like the idea of having to suck it up and go out there and play [without Smith],” Bayless said. “He’s not built that way.”

Bayless also admits he’s spooked by all the injuries to the top four Bucs’ receivers, though he wondered aloud if Todd Bowles might be pulling a “Belichickian” stunt by listing guys as injured when they are not?

(The creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, might point out here how Tom Brady needed surgery after the Bucs won the Super Bowl for a knee injury he suffered early in the 2020 season and not once was he ever listed on an injury report that year.)

“All of a sudden we are looking at Breshad Perriman,” Bayless said.

Someone needs to tell Skippy that Perriman is on the injury report too.

I don’t think that Donovan will play Sunday, but I do think that BL will compensate by calling a LOT of running plays (50% or maybe even more), and complementing those with a healthy share of short passes to our RBs & TEs. No one’s gonna jeopardize our 45-year-old QB’s health.

Bucs’ defense will be the story of the day. They’re healthy & will keep the pressure on all game long. With both Jameis & Kamara being dinged up entering the game, I think we’ll see a replay of the first 3 quarters of the Falcons-Saints game, except we’ll keep the pressure on for a full 4 quarters. Bucs will win.

Bayless is a clown. Brady might not want to suck it up without Smith? Give me a break!! He’s played with worse OL than Wells. I have no idea what Bayless is talking about that Brady isn’t built that way. Bayless likes to profess himself as some Brady whisperer. I know that Tom had a video clip of him on his doc when Skip declared Brady washed some years ago. Bayless has an unhealthy obsession with Brady. Shannon is a Brady hater who suffers from Tom Brady Derangement Syndrome. They will have like six topics on Brady alone! There’s more happening in the NFL besides Tom Brady. Sometimes I don’t think these talking heads know this. They know Tom’s name brings in the engagement and ratings. First Take on BSPN had a whole segment on Brady’s alleged marital issues. How pathetic and embarrassing for a so-called sports show.

  4. Bucsfan13 Says:

Brady’s actually had a bad knee since 2019. It worsened in 2020. He just didn’t get surgery to fix it. The team knew he needed surgery. I knew something was off with him when he used a square shotgun stance. Something he’s never used in his career. He’s always used a staggered stance. He was trying to take pressure off his knee with the square stance.

I hope BL has a better protection scheme than the one we utilized in Dallas. We must help Wells out. One of my biggest complaints with Leftwich is that he is slow with adjustments. The DL from the Rams said on a podcast last year that he thought one of the reasons we lost the playoff game was because our offense stayed with the same jet projection and never slid help to Aaron Donald. AD had the one on one the whole game! I highly suggest people listen to it. It will raise your pressure. The sheer lack of incompetence by the team to adjust protection to AD was scary. When Brady was yelling at Hainsey during the game it was because Hainsey screwed up the projection call. Sidebar: I won a bet with my friend for $100. I knew Brady wouldn’t last one game without tearing into his OL.

Seems like everybody is focused on our Offense…..they were for the Cowboys game also…..
But, with our Defense healthy…..it will be the story of this game too.

  6. stpetebucsfan Says:

I hope we use Ko Kieft to simply come to the left and obliterate Jordan or whomever is rushing. If Kieft reaches Jordan with any momentum Cam may stop his trash talking early. Hopefully Kieft can pull a “Playoff Lennie” and just pancake Jordan.

He picked them in 2020 too, so I don’t think it is a kiss of death.
    Worked ok that year. 🙂

  9. Allen Lofton Says:

We won without Donovan last weekend – keep aints guessing if we are running or passing, giving TB a nano second more to complete passes

  10. Beeej Says:

We didn’t throw a single pass to a TE other than Brate, I expect Kieft/Otten will stay in to block

You used the term “hollering show” and that reminded me that I needed to thank you once again.

After Monday’s victory, I decided to check out some of the shows. They suck. All of them. Well, the ones I watched did. First, it wasn’t a Buc’s victory, it was a Cowboys’ loss, judging by how they yalked (yell-talked) about it. Not one mention of the outstanding defensive effort, but lots of yalking about poor Dak. Pathetic.

I don’t know how y’all watch this crap week in and week out, but thanks for doing so, because now I don’t have to.

PS Like most people, I’m off on the weekends. I enjoy leisurely reading all about the Bucs when I’m having my morning tea. Could y’all try to have more articles on the weekend? Yeah, you need your time off too, but maybe you could have an intern post ones you wrote earlier? Maybe even use relevant and updated reruns of previous articles? Just a thought. And thanks again for saving me from the garbage shows.

Yep, they will be the key to victory. They’re 100% healthy, too.

As far as the WRs go, imo, Godwin will sit this one out. The rest of the receivers will go until they can’t!!! LF will go until he can’t!!! LFG!!

  16. MonkeyMan Says:

Every day, every week, all I hear about is how the Bucs are washed and the team of the week is going to win.

Come on man. Brady vs Winston. Bucs D vs Saints offense.

    Bucs 27-7

Is the media world doing this every week intentionally to make Brady look like an even bigger hero his final season as the team finishes with the best record in the NFL. You bet your ass they are.

  17. Razor Ramone Says:

Willie, I agree. I just can’t watch those shows, just turrible. That show Brady does with Jim Grey is absolutely impossible to tolerate also.

  18. Rob Says:

Brady is going to get rid of the ball so fast none of this is going to matter. Expect lots of quick, short passes and an occasional bomb. He won’t hold the ball long enough for the Saints to exploit Smith’s absence.

  19. Cobraboy Says:

I’m not concerned about what the talking heads say, or what obsession haunts them.

I will say I watched the coaches film of the NO-ATL game, and came away unim[pressed with either team. I realize Game 1 shows more team flaws than Game 17, along with time to correct those flaws.

NO did not win that game. ATL choked. Ahead 26-10, ATL went into full turtle prevent mode, and NO gashed them underneath constantly, and ATL never changed. Toss in some turnovers, and there you go.

I doubt NO will game plan the Bucs the way they did the ATL pigeons. For one, the DL stayed at home and rarely went full-tilt after Mariota (who is an abysmal QB.) Their goal was contain/force Mariota to beat them with his arm. Which he cannot. Patterson had a good game, but he’s hardly a typical RB, and rarely sets as a pure RB in the backfield.

There is nothing remotely similar between the ATL O and the TPA O, between Mariota and Brady. That said, ATL hurt themselves far more than NO did.

For all the fear about Jordan, he was pretty invisible in that game. I did see some solid energy in the NO D-backfield and one LB including former Buc Justin Evans (who I really liked as a Buc when healthy.)

ATM was not impressive in the least, inaccurate and somewhat scatterbrained until ATL went all turtle. He had two, maybe three INTs just dropped. He looked somewhat hobbled when he ran (knee? Lack of confidence in it?) The receivers were just OK, but made some nice grabs in crunch time, but I admit to not knowing a lot about the ATL pass-D.

All-in-all, that game was a bi-lateral slopfest with ATL choking with a prevent D.

I expect the NO staff did a lot of yelling in film sessions this week, and NO will clean up that stinky mess. Because if that same team shows up on Sunday, the Bucs should throttle them. ATL is a bad, terrible. poorly-coached team, and NO let that bad team control much of the game.

I also expect a lot of trickeration with Hill in the backfield. If ATL could neutralize Hill, they win that game. Bowles better figure out how to make Hill a non-issue, or they could suffer the same fate as Atlanta.

I don’t know who to pick, but I like the odds of Bucs controlling this game more than years past, and there is a possibility the Bucs could really whack NO if they have their heads’ right because they have superior players top to bottom. It comes down to the Bucs defense. I do expect a lower-scoring game.

  20. AbucAway Says:

    Here’s what we know, Skip…

Tom has worked with every type of lineman from Wells to All-Pro. He isn’t against ‘sucking it up’ as he has proven time and time again. With the rookies and new starters getting experience and confidence from game 1, Pass blocking will be better this game. Run blocking will take another step up. I’d be willing to bet that he may miss Smith at LT, but being a part of the excitement that these new guys possess will give him new energy as well. I wonder who gets the butt chewing this game?
My concern is what is going on with Tom’s weight. He is looking skinny and unhealthy. rather than fit and fighting weight

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs are gonna need a different wrinkle to beat the Saints. They are gonna have to give the Saints D some different looks/ Because the saints defenders luv pending their ears back and feasting on Brady. Gotta do somethin different. We shall see.

  22. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I think New Orleans did not go after Mariota much is because he has the legs to run away from a pass rush. Not so with Brady, so u can bet they will be coming tomorrow.
I agree that Atlanta lost that game, but you must give credit to Winston who picked them apart in the 4th quarter, and made some very nice throws.

  23. fern Says:

Devin White needs to be unleashed Winston has a bad back.
