Russell Gage Confident In Firepower

September 11th, 2022

Russell Gage pulls in a pass (before his injury) and Dolphins corner Kader Kohou cries foul last month in controlled scrimmages.

Joe is on record stating when healthy, there may be no better receiver group from Nos. 1-4 in NFL history than the Bucs currently have.

And soon-to-be Hall of Fame receiver Larry Fitzgerald suggested that in this Bucs offense (pretty much the same offense Fitzgerald played in with the Cardinals), Julio Jones will blow up and the other Bucs receivers should be able to clean up as well.

Just too many weapons for most defenses to handle, Fitzgerald said.

Bucs receiver Russell Gage liked what he heard from Fitzgerald when Joe relayed Fitzgerald’s words to him.

“That’s kind of a true statement,” Gage said. “All of us, really. You’ve got “Who” [Julio], you’ve got CG [Chris Godwin], Mike [Evans], me, BP [Breshad Perriman],” Gage began. “It’s really going to be hard to [stop] us top to bottom.”

There may not be many defensive coordinators out there who have the bolas to try to play man defense on Bucs receivers, Gage said.

“We’ve already talked about it,” Gage said. “We expect to see a lot of zone. Man-on-man, I don’t see how [a defense] is going to match it up.”

And that’s just it. Julio or Evans or Godwin often are matched up with No. 1 corners. So if healthy, who has a No. 3 corner that could hang with Evans or Julio or Godwin or even Gage?

Wow, that tidbit from Ian surprises me. But just think what it can mean for this team. Hoping the team as a whole stays as healthy as possible.

    LFG!

  3. Chris Tucker@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Nothing against Gage, but I think Julio Jones is gonna be the biggest surprise, of all our receivers.
But Gage is right when he says no team can cover all our receivers.

  4. Cobraboy Says:

    Faster than Miller and McCollum?

    Impressive…

  5. David Says:

A couple of notes on some division rivals…
New Orleans Saints offensive line is absolutely horrendous in pass protection.
ATL D line looks much improved.
ATL offense is Patterson and nothing else.

I know each week is different and things can change drastically but I was expecting a split with the Saints. After watching a half, I expect the Buccaneers to sweep them.

  6. David Says:

As for Russell Gage‘s comments, absolutely. Teams are forced to put a safety or linebacker on one of these receivers.

There may be games where any one of those receivers who have a lesser defensive player on them will end up with 10 or 12 catches because Brady is going to just expose it until the defense changes.

    LFG!

  7. Netwalker Says:

I’m guessing that is on the field clock time and not clocked ‘dash’ time. Doubt he’s the fastest in the 40. Still, that’s impressive… and likely productive.

  8. sasquatch Says:

When is Gage going to be healthy?

  9. Buc king Says:

They need to go-ahead n lock julio up for the rest of his playing days

  10. Marine Buc Says:

It’s a “fluid” situation in today’s NFL. We have 5 or 6 very capable receivers and then we have Darden returning kicks and punts. There will be several Buc receivers going on IR this year. Godwin, Evans, Gage and Perriman have all already been injured this season already.

We will ned all 7 WRs to pitch in at some point – plus we will need all the PS WRs to pitch in at some point as well.

    Welcome to the NFL baby!!!

  11. Ed Says:

Saints defense looks old! Their left tackle can’t pass block either. Falcons are hitting Winston all game.

  12. SteelStudBuc Says:

OJ Howard has 2 TDs today, so far

  13. David Says:

    And JW fumbled. 😂

In his defense, his offensive line has been atrocious.

  14. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Jameis is looks like Jameis

  15. captivajim Says:

gage seems to be prone to hamstring issues..hope he’s not too fragil

  16. Oneilbuc Says:

Y’all must not be watching the game Jameis threw 2 TDs

  17. Casual Observer Says:

Have long agree with Joe about the unsurpassed quality of our WR set – when all are healthy. Could well be a spectacular season – for this reason. And I have the same concern as Sasquatch. Gage seems to have had a tweaked hamstring all summer. Hope he can play tonight.

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

Like a said Jameis looks like Jameis

Suck for 3 1/2 quarters… then finally get it together.. and fall short?

  19. Oneilbuc Says:

Lol 😂😂 Jmark man your hate has blinded you lol 🤣🤣 . You just can’t give the guy credit for nothing regardless how he plays lol 😂😂😂.

  20. Oneilbuc Says:

Just have that same energy with Brady if he’s a little off . This is the first game Brady might be a little off because most of these players today don’t play preseason. It’s going to be sloppy football this week and next week.

  21. Oneilbuc Says:

    For every team .

  22. Infomeplease Says:

Atlanta is still figuring out ways to lose!!!

  23. Anonymous Says:

    Gotta win tonight.

  24. Oneilbuc Says:

    ATL won lol 😂😂😂

  25. Oneilbuc Says:

    What a game!!!

  26. David Says:

    NOTES-
    ATL still sucks
    NO line sucks
JW Will panic and turn the ball over with pressure (ATL should have picked him a couple times)
ATL The whole offense is Paterson
Marcus Lattimore is still a punk and almost cost his team the game

  27. Jmarkbuc Says:

    O’Neil

I Don’t care enough about Jameis to hate him.

Good for Jaboo, but Atlanta’s prevent defense killed them not Jameis.

  28. Defense Rules Says:

Oneilbuc … ‘ATL won lol 😂😂😂’

You must’ve been watching a different ballgame. Saints came back to win by 1. Jameis looked very good once the Saints went to the hurry-up & the Falcons defense stopped bringing tons of pressure. I think they said he was 14-of-his-last-15 passes for over 200 yds in that stretch. He was gunning it & was quite accurate. He was helped out though because Falcons DBs couldn’t cover for beans.

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

Dr. I thought he was going to make the field goal. I was off on that one but it was a good game.

  30. David Says:

    ATL is still Atlanta.
    NO has online issues.
JW Will still throw it up for grabs and turn the ball over and panic when there is pressure
Patterson is the entire offense for ATL
Bucs should have no problem with either team

JAX still has no line and no receivers for Trevor Lawrence. Wasting a talent.

CIN v PITT is a reminder that week one can be sloppy and anything can happen

  31. Oneilbuc Says:

I feel you bro but why no one say that when it’s Brady at quarterback? No one say the dbs helped Brady . But Jameis helped his team win today just like Brady will help us win today. I just give credit where credit is do bro that’s all at the end of the day they won as a team and the falcons lost as a team. But be on the lookout for these trash veteran quarterbacks that will be free agents next year. These are the quarterbacks that Joe and Ira Kaufman podcast wants. I rather take my chances with Trask than any of these veterans free agents next year.

  32. David Says:

Wow. I didn’t see earlier that the Bears beat the new era of Trey Lance in San Francisco. LOL.

  33. Ed Says:

Falcons coaching lost that game by playing soft zone
